Ottis O. Howell

Ottis O. Howell, age 84, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, passed away Saturday, May 22, 2004.

He was a longtime resident of Grants, and worked at the Homestake Mill.

Ottis is survived by his wife of 50 years Dottie Howell; daughter Fay Howell; son Thomas J. Howell and wife Emerald; granddaughter Amy Howell and great grandson, Roderick Thomas Vigil.

A memorial service will be held at the Grants Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints on Wednesday, May 26, 2004 at 10 a.m.

Arrangements by Direct Funeral Services, Albuquerque.

Adolfo G. Chavez

Adolfo G. Chavez passed away on January 9, 2004. He was 45. He was born on June 26, 1958 to Merced Chavez and Mary Vallejos Chavez in Albuquerque.

He was survived by his parents Merced and Mary Chavez of Grants; one brother Mark Chavez of Albuquerque; four sisters Angie Leifheit and her husband Kevin of Los Alamos, Adele Franklin and her husband Troy of Rapid City, S.D., Michelle Chavez and her friend Joe Ortega of Rio Rancho, and Maxine Chavez and her friend John Sabourin of Albuquerque and his maternal grandmother Angelita Vallejos of Grants.

A funeral mass will be celebrated on Saturday, January 10, 2004 at 10 a.m. at St. Teresa Catholic Church with Father Matthew Keller officiating.

Burial will follow at Grants Memorial Park.

Pallbearers include family and friends.

Grants Mortuary has been entrusted with arrangements.

Kenneth Eugene Hartman

Kenneth Eugene Hartman passed away Jan. 18, 2004. He was 76. He was born August 6, 1927 in Topeka, Kans. to Louis Hartman and Alta Fae Singer Hartman.

Mr. Hartman will best be remembered as a miner, who has worked in Nevada, Colorado, Arizona and New Mexico for over 30 years, spending five years locally with Kerr McGee. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and raising his family.

He is survived by four sons Patrick Clark and his wife Bonna of Mancus, Colo., Barry Clark and his wife Anna of El Mirage, Ariz., J.T. Tieme and his wife Rebecca of Grants, Michael Hartman and his wife Barbara of Delta, Colo.; four daughters Kathleen Burdine and her husband Jack of Grants, Maureen Vaughn and her husband Marvin of Grants, Lisa Wright and her husband Jerald of Camas, Wash., Trinity Scott and her husband Harley of Grants. One brother Jess Hartman of Greenport, N.Y.; 18 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife Sally Hartman who passed away March,

2002; his parents; one brother Lee Hartman and one sister Maxine Szweda.

Per Mr. Hartman's request, No services will be held.

Grants Mortuary is entrusted with arrangements.

Nell H. Taylor

Funeral services were held for Nell H. Taylor on Tuesday, Jan. 6, 2004 at the Lanier-Andler Funeral Home in Sneads, Fla. Burial followed in Pope Cemetery.

A native of Jackson County, Florida, she had lived in New Mexico for over 40 years. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Grants. Nell was known for her expertise in needlework, good southern cooking and love of gardening.

She is survived by two daughters Loyce E.Faust and husband Clyde of Conneautville, Penn. and Barbara T. Moore and husband Dennis of Littleton, Colo.; eight grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and one great-greatgrandson. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 68 years Eldred L. Taylor and a beloved son, Byron Taylor.

Mrs. Taylor died from a fall resulting in severe head trauma.

The family requests that any memorials be sent to the First Baptist Church, 822 Mountain Road, Grants, N.M. 87020.

Teresa Eagan Tengan

Theresa Eagan Tengan, of Hawaii, passed away on March 22, 2004. She was 43. Theresa was born June 30, 1960 to Mr. And Mrs. Ray Eagan.

She is survived by her husband Rikizo Tengan; parents Ray and Germaine Eagan; sisters Ethel Eagan, Helene Gabaldon and her husband Jay and Kathy St. Martin and her husband Robin; nieces Ashley, Kandice, Crystalynn, Devyn and Jaylene.

Services are pending in Hawaii.

Timothy J. Greene

Timothy J. Greene, a former resident of Grants passed away at his home in Los Angeles, Calif. On Feb 16, 2004. He was 52 years old.

Timothy was born Jan 28, 1952, in Carlsbad, N.M. to Nolan G. Greene and Joyce Trovello Greene. He was a graduate of Grants High School, class of 1971.

He was preceded in death by his father; and grandfather W. A. Caravile.

He is survived by his mother Joyce Greene; four brothers Wayne Greene and wife Connie of Scottsdale, Ariz., James Greene and wife Joann of Rexburg, Idaho, David Cole and friend Sherri Anderson of Bellingham, Wash. and Jack Greene and friend Jean of Anacoctes, Wash.; his grandmother Dorothy Caravile of Grants and numerous nieces and nephews.

Cremation has taken place. A memorial will be held at Grace Baptist Church in Milan on March 27 at 11 a.m. with Rev. Dale Thatcher officiating. A reception will follow at the church.

Germain A. Marcotte

Germain A. Marcotte passed away at his home in Grants Friday Morning the 26th of March 2004 following a lengthy illness. Mr. Marcotte was born in L'Avenir Providence, Quebec, Canada to Emery Marcotte and Agnes Babineau. He was 89.

He is survived by his Wife Cecile Maurice Marcotte of the family home in Grants, one Son Leonard Marcotte of Grants, two daughters Suzanne Muniz of Los Lunas, and Carole Bankston and her Husband Danny of Dolores, Colo.; one brother; Fernand Marcotte and his wife Adrianne of L'Avenir Quebec, Canada; one sister Therese Gagne of Richmond, Quebec Canada; three grandchildren Mario Muniz and his Wife Deanna of Katy, Texas, Nicole Hall and her husband Mick of Peoria, Ariz., and Brigitte Juteau and her fiancee Michael Strawmatt of Brighton, Colo., and two great-grandchildren Trey Muniz and Chase Muniz of Katy, Texas.

He was preceded in death by his parents Emery and Agnes Marcotte, and many Brothers and Sisters.

Mr. Marcotte was married to Cecile Elise Maurice and adopted his three children from an orphanage in Canada. He also had once studied to be a Catholic Franciscan Priest. During his life, he was a miner and had moved to Grants from his native Canada in 1960. He was employed by the Kerr-McGee Corporation for 22 years until his retirement. He was a member of Saint Teresa de Avila Catholic Church.

Visitation and rosary were Monday, at Grants Mortuary Chapel. Funeral Mass will be Tuesday, March 30, 2004 at 11:30 a.m with Father Timothy Cervantes officiating. Burial will follow at Grants Memorial Park.

Pallbearers will be Leonard Marcotte, Suzanne Muniz, Ralph Geberra, Mario Muniz, Danny Bankston, Claude Juteau, Raul Muniz and Carole Bankston.

Honorary Pallbearers include Gilles Boisvert, Roger Denomme, Angenord Aubin, Jim Meisner, Al Lopez, Leo Lavalle.

Grants Mortuary has been entrusted with arrangements.

Lawrence Marez

Lawrence Marez, 52, of Grabrs passed away March 25 after a brief illness. Lawrence was born March 22, 1952. he was preceded in death by his companion Thelma Medina; his parents Abel and Juanita Marez and grandparents Frank and Josefita Marez and one sister Rachel Marez.

He is survived by his children Tracey Ferguson of North Carolina and Danny Marez of Albuquerque; one grandson Thomas; brothers Orlando and wife Irene, Raymond and wife Norma, Billy and wife Lora; sisters Rachel Chapman of Louisianna, Lorraine Poole and husband Lance of Houston, Wilma Rivera and husband Paul of Grants; Erinda Baca and husband Bobby of Grants and several nieces and nephews.

A rosary was recited Monday, at St. Teresa Catholic Church. Funeral mass will be Tuesday, March 30, 10 a.m. at St. Teresa Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Grants Memorial Park.

Pallbearers will include B. J. Baca, John Hall, Tony Marez, Shawn Marez, Jeff Marez, Vincent Rivera, and Chuck Haney. Honorary pallbearers will be the remaining nieces and nephews.

Ramon Vigil, Sr.

Ramon Vigil, Sr., 79, a resident of Albuquerque for 44 years, born and raised in San Jose, N.M., passed away March 22, 2004. he is survived by his daughters JoAnn Coleman and husband Charles of Silver City, Monica Martinez and husband Luke of Taos; son Ramon Vigil, Jr. and wife Gloria of Albuquerque; grandson Richard Medina of Grants with whom Ramon resided for the past 30 years; grandchildren Valerie, Cindy Natalie, Melanie, Christine, Lisa, Amber, Luke Jr. and Veronica; six great-grandchildren; sistersHelen Padilla and husband, Alfonso of Santa Fe and Judy Ann Ortiz and husband Ernest of Grants and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by two brothers Simon Vigil in 1959 and Bernie Vigil in1977.

He was a regular member at the Cibola Senior Citizen Center and a former member of the VFW in Grants.

Rosary was recited on Wednesday, at French Mortuary in Albuquerque. Mass of Christian burial was celebrated on Thursday, March 25 at St. teresa Catholic Church in Grants. Burial followed at Santa Fe national Cemetery.

Leopoldo Chavez, Sr.

Leopoldo Chavez, Sr. passed away June 27, 2004 in Cubero. He was born October 20, 1917 in Cubero to Isidro and Isabel Chavez.

He is survived by his wife of 66 years Arsenia Chavez, daughter Isabell Ithurria ahd husband Jean, Lorraine and husband Adelino and Evelyn DeHerrera and husband Phil; sons Leopoldo Chavez, Jr. and wife Socorro, Mike Chavez and family, Donald Chavez and family, Arthur Chavez and family; brother Preciliano Chavez, Fred Chavez and Fernandez Chavez; sisters Daisy Ortiz, Melie Rael, Kate Saavedra and Dora Marea; 30 grandchildren; 57 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a daughter Thelma Chavez; frather Isidro Chavez; mother Isabel Chavez; grandchildren Eric Chavez and Helen Chavez.

A rosary will be recited Tuesday, June 29 at 7 p.m. at Our lady of Light Church in Cubero. Funeral services will be held at 10 p.m. on Wednesday, June 30.

Pallbearers will include Philip Ithurria, Donald Chavez, Duane DeHerrera, Mike Chavez, Jr., Isidro Chavez, DeAndre Chavez, Frank Chavez and Robert Gonzales

Honorary bearers will be Gene Ithurria, Johny Chavez, Laurence Gonzales, Martin Chavez, Paul Chavez, and Mathew Chavez.

Direct funeral home is in charge of arrangements.

Bea Brandon

Bea Brandon passed away on June 24, 2004, she was 84. She was born August 15, 1919, in Lipan, Texas to William and Rhoda Sortor.

Ms. Brandon was a member of the First Baptist Church of Grants. She worked as an elementary and special education teacher and as a special education director with the Grants Cibola School district. She was loved and will be missed by all that knew her.

She is survived by her daughter Anna Beth Lamebull and her husband William of Grants; three grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband T.L. Brandon in 1990; her parents; four sons; several brothers and one sister.

A graveside service will take place on Saturday, June 26, 2004 at 2 p.m. at Grants Memorial Park with Rev. Hugh W. Rogers officiating.

Pallbearers include her family and friends.

Mary Jane Griego

Funeral Services for MaryJane Griego, 56, of Grants, will be held on Thursday, June 24 2004, at 11 a.m. at the First Baptist Church in Grants. Viewing will be held on Thursday-June 24, 2004 from 9 - 11 a.m. at the First Baptist Church. Pastor Hugh Rogers win officiate. Burial will follow at the Grants Memorial Park

Mary Jane was born September 17, 1947 in Grants~ New Mexico and died on June 20 2004 in Albuquerque~ New Mexico. She retired from the Cibola-Grants County Schools after 29 years where she had been with the Grants High School.

She is survived by her husband John Griego of Grants; mother Adela Torrez of Grants; sisters Prescilla Marquez of Grants, Ro Ornelas of Sugar Land, Texas, Diane McDowell of Grants, and Deb Jaramillo of Cjncinnati, Ohio; brother Bennie Torrez of Phoenix Ariz.; two grandchildren Tomas and MacKenzie Greigo and daughter-in-law Renae Greigo all of Albuquerque.

She is preceded in death by her son Kenneth Griego and Father; Tomas Torrez.

Pallbearers will be: Deacons of the First Baptist Church.

In Lieu of flowers the family request donations be made in the Memory of Mary Jane Griego Grandchildren Education Fund, in care of Renae Greigo 10823 Jewel Cave Road SE., Albuquerque, New Mexico 87123.

Compassion Mortuary of Grants is in charge of arrangements.

Paul E. Sanchez

Paul E. Sanchez passed away on June 27, 2004 at home, surrounded by his family. He was 61. Mr. Sanchez was born on March 31, 1943 to Paul Sanchez and Jenny Quintana Sanchez in Wagon Mound.

Deacon Sanchez served his country in the United States Marines. "Once a Marine, always a Marine." He served two tours of duty in Vietnam. He attended Cristo Rey Seminary and was ordained to the Deaconate in 1975. He was assigned to St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Church in Grants. He had worked as a miner, a correctional officer and a salesman for Galles Chevrolet.

Deacon Paul is survived by his wife Louise Sanchez of the family home in Grants; three daughters Maria Sanchez, Jessica Sanchez, and Sarah Sanchez, all of Albuquerque; five sons Paul Sanchez, Michael Sanchez, Ben Sanchez and his wife Leslie, Immanuel Sanchez, all of Albuquerque, and John Sanchez of Peoria, Ill.; seven grandchildren; three sisters Theresa Cordova and her husband Jess, Doris Larkin and her husband Darrell, Grace Garcia and her husband Jess nd many nephews and nieces.

He was preceded in death by his parents Paul and Jenny Sanchez.

A memorial rosary will be recited on Tuesday, June 29, 2004 at 7 p.m. at St. Teresa Catholic Church. A memorial mass will be held on Wednesday, June 30, 2004 at 10 a.m. with Father Matthew Keller officiating. Burial of cremated remains will follow at Grants Memorial Park.

CULBRETH

Lewis Culbreth Jr. passed away at his Santa Fe home on Friday, July 23, 2004. He was born Aug. 5, 1937, in Wilmington, Del.

Lewis was an air force veteran and spent 17 years as a merchant seaman. Later in life, he worked in the construction industry, and after moving to New Mexico in 1998, he did a great deal of modeling and acted in several films. His last part was in Mall Cop, to be released later this year.

He is survived by his wife Dagny and children James and Kira. He left behind a wide circle of family and friends, and was highly respected for his outstanding generosity of spirit and loving kindness.

Though he did not want a funeral or memorial service, there will be a simple gathering of friends and family in a few weeks for a scattering of ashes in his beloved Zuni Mountains. Lewis lived in Grants from 1998 until 2000, when he moved to Santa Fe.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in his name to: Cancer Institute of New Mexico Foundation, 490 A West Zia Road, Santa Fe, N.M. 87505, (505) 955-7958.

FAUGHT

Martha A. Faught, 78, passed away at her home on Aug. 6, 2004. She was born on Nov. 18, 1925, in Roswell to William T. Green and Bernice Tripplett Green.

Mrs. Faught will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. She was a member of Eastern Star, a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, a member of the Temple of Peace Pentecostal Church, a Rosicrucian, a cook at Bluewater Elementary School and a Girl Scout leader. All will miss her.

She is survived by her daughter Kristina Faught-Hollar and husband Twig of Bluewater; two sisters Maxine Lee of Grants and Dolores Peteriek and husband Raymond of Temple, Texas; two brothers Jess William Green and wife Naomi of Tucson, Ariz., and Troy Windsor and his wife Janie of California; six grandchildren Valerie Mirabal and husband Edwin Jr. of Milan, Christopher Warren and wife Erin of Columbus, Mont., Brett Hollar and wife Jennifer of Bluewater, Paul Hollar and wife Kathy of San Rafael, Paul Hollar and wife Kathy of San Rafael, Bart Hollar and wife Jennifer of Columbus, Mont., and Twilena Wilson and husband Brad of Milan; 12 great-grandchildren Derikk, Jerred, Wyatte, Marti Joe, Amber, Heather, Kyle, Khole, Katrell, Devon, Nathan, Jeremy and a thirteenth on the way.

Mrs. Hollar was preceded in death by her husband C.G. "Palladin" Faught; her niece Martha Ferguson and nephew Steve Green.

A memorial service was held Monday at the Temple of Peace Pentecostal Church in Milan with Pastor Darryl McCullough officiating. Honorary pallbearers were Ted Moore, Maxine Monte, DJ Shoemaker, Leonda Lopez, Anna Lopez, J.J. Lopez, Dakota Lopez, Natalie Lopez, Bernice Letternau, Roz Palmer, Billy Green, Charlie Green, Kelly Green, Pet Lopez and James Spidle.

Grants Mortuary was entrusted with arrangements.

MILLS

Kenneth Ray Mills, 54, of Bluewater Village, N.M., died August 5, 2004, in Albuquerque. He was born on January 13, 1950, and was a veteran of the US Army serving with the 82nd Airborne during the Vietnam War.

Graveside services for Mills will be held on Wednesday, August 11, 2004, at 10 a.m. at the Pioneer Memorial Cemetery in Bluewater Village. Pastor B. Williams will officiate.

Mills is survived by his father Guy Hines of Bluewater Village; brother Guy Richard Mills of Georgetown, Texas; sisters Sandra Haddox of Lawrenceville, Georgia, Nanette Merritt of Decatur, Georgia, Judy Loftin of Deatsville, Alabama and Barbara Patterson of Decatur, Georgia; daughter Joyce Spears of Alabama and grandson Anthony Taylor of Alabama.

He is preceded in death by his mother Betty Jane Mills.

Honorary pallbearers will be Mike Mills, Gary Mills, Dickie Justice, Kable Oldham, Rodney Mills, Jimmy Cotant and Harrison Poncho.

Compassion Mortuary of Grants is in charge of arrangements.
