Ida Hackeny

Services for Ida Hackney, 92, of Grants, will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 22, 2009, at 10 a.m. at the First Baptist Church in Grants.

Burial will follow at the Grants Memorial Park.

Visitation was held on Monday, Dec. 21, 2009, from 5-7 p.m. at Compassion Mortuary.

Ida was born on Aug. 13, 1917, in Cushing, Okla., and she went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Dec. 16, 2009, in Grants.

Ida Mae grew up in Oklahoma during the Great Depression years and married Frank Hackney on June 14, 1940, in Ponca City, Okla.

While he was in basic training to ship out for World War II, their first child, Vicki Lynn, was born in November 1942.

After Frank's discharge from the Navy, the family moved to Albuquerque, where sons Richard (1946) and Jon (1948) joined the family.

The family lived in Albuquerque from 1945 until moving to Grants in 1958.

She was active in the community, along with her husband, by being a part of the chamber of commerce and volunteering at the hospital.

She also volunteered at the local food bank until this last year.

Until cancer took a toll on her, she enjoyed walking daily at the community center with her friends.

Ida Mae was loved by all who knew her.

She had a great wit and sense of humor and was very hospitable.

She was also a strong Christian who had amazing faith that set a wonderful example of kindness and generosity to all she knew.

Her love of the Lord was the rock in her life.

She welcomed all who came to her home and made them feel at home.

She and Frank enjoyed many years of travel, golfing and socializing with their many friends.

In 1990 she and Frank celebrated 50 years of marriage.

She was always ready to go anywhere the family was going.

She even made a trip to South Korea in 2002 at the age of 85 to attend her grandson Matt's wedding to Seo-young Lim.

For her 90th birthday in 2007 she was able to enjoy the company of many of her nieces and nephews, as well as all of her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

She will be sorely missed by all who knew her, but she left many good memories.

She is survived by her children: Vicki Berndt and husband Robert of Richland, Wash., Richard B. Hackney of Grants and Jon Hackney and wife Jeanette of Grants; grandchildren: Kevin Witherspoon, Matt Withersopon, Stephen Hackney, Rhonda Hegland, Phil Hackney and Jessica Wyatt; eight great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews and three sisters-in-laws: Cleo Hackney Shafer, Adalee Hackney Hardy and Nancy Hackney Angelino.

She was preceded in death by her husband: Frank B. Hackney; parents: Regnal Weir and Maude Delay Weir; siblings: Leslie Weir, Irene Weir Barnhart, Vernong (Buck) Weir, Regnal (Buddy) Weir and Virgie Weir Cartwright.

Pallbearers will be: Stephen Hackney, Eric Hegland, Kevin Witherspoon, Bob Berndt, Phillip Hackney and Wes Wyatt.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the charity of your choice.

Compassion Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

Mary Quinn

Services for Mary Quinn, 59, of Grants, will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 23, 2009, at 10 a.m. at Compassion Mortuary.

Pastor Garland Moore will officiate.

Burial will be held on Monday, Dec. 28, 2009, at the Tahlequah Community Cemetery, Tahlequah, Okla.

Mary was born on May 5, 1950, in Tahlequah, Okla., and passed away on Dec. 20, 2009, in Grants.

She was employed with the Grants/Cibola County Schools as a teacher.

She is survived by her husband: James Quinn of Grants; children: Nicole Suazo and husband Michael of Grants, Shawn Wallace of Grants; step children: Robert Quinn and wife Lori of Rio Rancho, Jaclyn Finch and husband Tom of El Paso, Texas and Tracy Quinn of Tucson, Ariz.; mother: Mildred Eastham Ryals of Tahlequah, Okla.; sisters: Pat Presley of Tahlequah, Okla., Cathy Ryals of Tahlequah, Okla., Karen Burchette Wagoner, Okla., Debbie Turney of Hulbert, Okla.; brother: Wayne Ryals, Tahlequah, Okla. and Phillip Ryals of Tahlequah, Okla.; 10 grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her father: Charles Ryals.

Compassion Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

Erlinda Esparza

Rosary and Funeral Mass for Erlinda C. Esparza, 83, of Grants, will be held on Saturday, Dec. 19, 2009, at 9:30 a.m. at St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Church.

Burial will follow at the Grants Memorial Park.

The Very Rev. Alberto Avella will be the Celebrant.

Erlinda was born on June 1, 1926, in Albuquerque and passed away on Dec. 17, 2009, in Grants.

She taught us that family was top priority and devoted her life to her family and friends.

She will be remembered for her love of music and for her cooking.

A stranger who met her always left as a friend.

She is missed and loved by many.

She is survived by her children: Tony Esparza of Grants, Yolanda Werkheiser and husband Dale of Stroudsburg, Penn., Rita Jaramillo and husband Rick of Belen, Ramona Esparza of Grants and Socorro Esparza of Grants; four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband: Antonio Esparza; parents: Eusebio Chavez and Chonita Salazar Chavez and son: Lorenzo Quintana.

Pallbearers will be: Rick Jaramillo, Dale Werkheiser, Michael Blea, Raymundo Vizcarra, Tony Soto and Ruben Sandoval.

Compassion Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

Loyola Baca

Funeral services are planned for Loyola Baca, 69.

She was born on July 27, 1940, to Patrocinio and Eduvigen Dominguez in San Rafael and passed away on Dec. 28, 2009, at her home in Albuquerque.

At a young age she married Pete Baca, Jr., and gave birth to three sons and one daughter.

Loyola worked at various restaurants and eventually opened her own at Chief Rancho.

She loved to cook and prepare her special chili.

She also enjoyed meeting all her customers and formed life long relationships with many of them.

After moving to Albuquerque in the 1980s she established Loyola's Restaurant on Central Avenue.

There too she continued her success and loyalty of her customers is still expanding.

She is survived by her sons: Casper and wife Cheryl, Lawrence and wife Angela, all of Grants, Joey and wife Barbara of Milan, Sarah Cordova and husband Julian of Bosque Farms; grandchildren: Christy, Joshua, Twila, CJ, Derrick, Charm, Jeremy and Desiree; great-grandchildren: Malyke, Clay, Jayce, Kalea, Brodie, Zaryah and Esteban; sisters: Jane Montano, Rita Chavez, Eleanor Dominguez, Pauline Wieiden and brother Pat Dominguez.

She was preceded in death by her parents; ex-husband Pete Baca, Jr.; brother: Dennis Dominguez; grandson: Dustin Baca and her infant son.

Martha Martinez

Funeral Mass for Martha A. Martinez, 86, will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 30, 2009, at 10 a.m. at St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Church.

A rosary will be recited on Tuesday, Dec. 29, 2009, at 7 p.m. at the church.

She will be missed by many as she had no enemies and befriended all who entered her home and heart.

She welcomed them as family.

We will miss her dearly and know she is in a wonderful place.

She was born on July 14, 1923, in Fiero and passed away on Dec. 25, 2009.

She is survived by her daughters: Ernestine and husband Del Griego, Emilia and husband Esteban Balli, Rita and husband Richard Renaud; grandchildren: Patricia and Ray Marquez, Nenette and Manuel Gonzales, Esteban and Samantha Balli, Ryan Renaud, Robert Renaud, Rachael Renaud; great-grandchildren: Rena and Roy Davis, Ramon and Annamarie Marquez, Keith Zamora, Brittany Marquez, Maxine Baros, Fernando Balli, Beau Baros and Audianna Balli; great-great-grandchildren: Rachael Zamora, Andrew Rodiguez, Neveah Marguez; brothers and sisters-in-law: Azucena Flores, Carmen Valles, Arturo Arciero, Jesus Arciero, Esequiel Arciero, Carolina Dominguez, Alfredo Martinez; many loving nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband: Augustino R. Martinez.

Delaiya Woods

Services and burial for Delaiya Elizabeth Woods, newborn, were held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 7, in Charlee Land, Whiterock in San Juan County.

Alvin Dorsey officiated.

She passed away on Sept. 24, 2009, in England.

She was born into the Mountain Cave People Clan for the Anglo People Clan.

She is survived by her parents: Tashina Laura Woods and Bryan Travis Woods; brother: Landon Cordell Woods; grandparents: Deloris Becenti, Byron D. Charlee, Gwendolyn Charlee, Calvin Gauldin, Kathy Gauldin and Damon B. Woods.

Pallbearers were Alan S. Charlee, Cameron V. Woods, Byron Charless and Damon B. Woods.

The family received relatives and friends at the Lake Valley Chapter House following the service.

Rollie Mortuary was in charge of arrangements.

Sylvia Newton

Memorial services for Sylvia Dawn Newton, 78, will be held on Saturday, Jan. 2, 2010, at 10 a.m. at the First Baptist Church in Thoreau.

Pastors Robert Hughbanks and Garland Moore will officiate.

She was born on Aug. 12, 1931, in Gallup and passed away on Dec. 22, 2009, at her home in Prewitt.

A resident of Prewitt for 17 years, she was an active member of First Baptist Church in Thoreau.

She is survived by her husband of 59 years: Donald Newton of Prewitt; son and daughter-in-law: Victor and Sandi Newton of Gallup; daughter and son-in-law Velnita and Rusty Long, of Joseph City, Ariz.; daughter: Verna Merry of Gallup; son and daughter-in-law: Vaughn and Linda Newton of Pleasant City, Ohio; Bridget and Mike King of Prewitt; brother and his wife: Victor and Pat Parker of Buena Park, Calif.; sister: Molly Williams of Plano, Texas; 11 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, 11 nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents: Victor and Juanita Parker; sibling: Anita Trudo; grandson: Henry Newton; nephew: Scott Baker.

Irene Rel

A private memorial for Irene Carrie "Myrick" Rel will be held at a later date.

She was born on June 11, 1956, and passed away on Dec. 22, 2009, following a lengthy illness.

Irene is survived by her sons: Michael Anthony Rel, Jr., of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Zachariah Andrew Rel of Washington, D.C.; sisters: Pamella Myrick of Elko, Nev., Pat McCaa and husband Ed of Grants; brothers: Pete Myrick and wife Mary of EIko, Nev. and David Myrick of Centerpoint, Texas; many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews and she was blessed with many friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents: James "Pete" Myrick and Anna "Pat" Myrick.

Lester Wiseman

Services for Lester Wiseman 73, of Pueblo Pintada, will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 29, 2009, at 11 a.m. at the Hospah Chapel in Hospah.

Burial will follow in the Church Cemetery.

Pastor Larry Smith will officiate.

A visitation was held on Monday, Dec. 28, 2009, from 3-7 p.m. at Compassion Mortuary.

Lester was born on Dec. 1, 1936, in Corydon, Ind., and passed away on Dec. 22, 2009, in Gallup.

He was a minister for many years on the reservation.

He is survived by his loving wife: Janice Hart Wiseman of Pueblo Pintada; sons: David Wiseman and Lisa of Bosque Farms and Stephen Wiseman and wife Angela of Phoenix, Ariz.; daughters: Sharon Sanders and husband Daniel of Hospah and Brenda Reynolds and husband Delbert of Monta Vista, Colo.; sister: Carol Smith and husband Larry of Cincinnati, Ohio; brothers: Merrill Wiseman of Corydon, Ind. and Carl Wiseman and wife Shirley of Corydon, Ind.; brother-in-law: Marcus Barksdale of New Salisbury, Ind.; 15 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and sister: Dolores Barksdale.

Pallbearers will be: Benjamin Reynolds, Timothy Sanders, Douglas Wiseman, DanDrew Reynolds, Aaron Wiseman and Nelson Ramone

Honorary Pallbearers will be: Andrew Wiseman, Joshua Reynolds, Reuben Reynolds and Joseph Reynolds.

Lola Baca

Rosary and Funeral Mass for Lola C. Baca 80, of Grants, will be held on Jan. 5, 2010, at 9:30 a.m. at St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Church.

Burial will follow at the Grants Memorial Park.

The Very Rev. Alberto Avella will be the Celebrant.

She was born on March 15, 1929, on a ranch near El Morro and passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by family and friends on Dec. 29, 2009, in Grants.

She was the last surviving child of Juan and Francisquita Chavez.

She will be sorely missed by all who ever had the privilege to know her.

She will always be remembered for her warm heart and great cooking.

She is survived by her son: Juan D. Baca and wife Viola of Ridgecrest, Calif.; daughters: Barbara Cregger and husband Kelly, Jr., of Grants and Judy Baca and husband Tom Venardos of Las Vegas, Nev.; grandsons: Joseph Baca of Grants, Chris Cregger and wife Soha of North Richland Hills, Texas, and Cory Cregger and wife Kris of Bedford, Texas; great-grandchildren: Joey Baca, Jacob Baca, Camdyn Cregger and Sophia Cregger and great-great-grandson: Joey Baca, III; many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband: Jerry Baca, Jr.; parents: Juan Chavez and Francesquita Chavez; sons: Richard Baca and Leory Baca; six brothers and five sisters.

Compassion Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

Julio Sisneros

Rosary and Funeral Mass for Julio Sisneros 75, of Grants, will be held on Monday, Jan. 4, 2010, at 10:30 a.m. at San Jose Catholic Church in Anton Chico.

Burial will follow at the Anton Chico Cemetery.

Father Antonio Mondragon will be the celebrant.

Julio was born on June 7, 1934, in Pintada and passed away on Dec. 27, 2009, in Grants.

He lived all of his life in Santa Rosa.

He was retired from the New Mexico Highway Department as an engineer.

He helped his wife raise her younger brothers and sisters after the death of her parents.

He graduated from Santa Rosa High School in 1955 and married Julia Garcia.

He is survived by his loving children: Evaristo Sisneros of Grants, Randy Sisneros and wife Theresa of Albuquerque, Elizabeth "Betty" Chavez and husband Leroy of Rio Rancho, Charolotte Sisneros of Rio Rancho, Roseann "Rosie" Sisneros of Grants, Larry Sisneros and wife Vangie of Gallup, Loretta Sisneros of Rio Rancho, Merlinda Lopez of Los Lunas, Eugene Garcia of Los Lunas, Sandra Garcia of Albuquerque, Robert Garcia of San Jon and Mackie Garcia of Santa Rosa; brother: Amadeao Sisneros of El Paso, Texas, and sister: Florenda Ulibarri of Clovis; 19 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren and his caretakers: Denise Ashbaugh and Julia Romero.

He was preceded in death by his wife: Julia Garcia Sisneros; daughter: Ramona Sisneros-Sevilla; brothers: George Sisneros, Edwardo Sisneros and Reyes Sisneros; sister: Sylia Baca; sons: Paul Garcia and Jose Garcia.
