Eugene Brown
Services: Have been held.
Mr. Eugene Wayland Brown, 90, of Clovis, died Monday, May 17, 2004, at his home.
He was born on March 13, 1914, in Tulsa, Okla., to Eli and Jennie Brown.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include his wife, Violet Brown of Clovis; three children, Odelsa Hodges, Bob Brown and Jim Brown; 11 grandchildren, Cathy, Tommy, Melody and Tracey Hodges, Garry Vivian and Richard Brown, Pamela Harless, Helena Vest, Cynthia Waterman and Melody Lawrence; and 12 great-grandchildren.
The Rev. Sam Kelley will officiate the services.
Burial will be at Lawn Haven Memorial Gardens in Clovis.
Arrangements are by Steed-Todd Funeral Home of Clovis.

Floyd Lee Brown
Services: Have been held.
Floyd Lee Brown, 77, of Friona died Monday, Jan. 26, 2004, at Baptist/St. Anthony’s Hospital in Amarillo.
He was born on Nov. 29, 1926, in Thrift, Texas, to Noble Allen and Elzora Potts Brown.
He married Billie King on July 9, 1950, in Bellview. He moved to Deaf Smith County, Texas, in 1940. He was a member of the Rosedale Baptist Church. He was a retired farmer and rancher.
He was preceded in death by a grandson, Justin Born.
Survivors include his wife; three sons, Sammy Brown and Earl W. Brown, both of Hereford, and Roger Brown of Lubbock; two brothers, Eldred Brown and Ernest Brown, both of Hereford; and three grandchildren.
The Rev. Terry Cosby will officiate the services.
Burial will be at West Park Cemetery in Hereford.
Arrangements are by Gililland-Watson Funeral Home of Hereford.

Joseph Brown
Services: Have been held.
Mr. Joseph William “Jake” Brown, 74, of Jal, died Monday, May 5, 2003, at Midland Memorial Hospital in Midland, Texas.
He was born on Dec. 1, 1928, in Cogar, Okla., to Myrtie and John Brown.
He was a 1947 graduate of Floyd High School. He married Coralie Nell Mullins on Feb. 5, 1953, in Roswell. He coached and taught math and history in Floyd, Farmington, Belen, LaJoya and Melrose and was a houseparent for New Mexico Boys Ranch. In 1971 he moved to Jal, where he coached the girls’ basketball and track programs and taught until his retirement in 1986.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Oleta Pace.
He is survived by his wife; three sons, Alvin Brown (and wife, Lou Ann) of Durango, Colo., Scott Brown (and wife, Roxy) of Andrews, Texas, and Greg Brown of Hobbs; two grandchildren, Tyler and Spencer Brown of Andrews, Texas; two brothers, Elton Brown (and wife, Lavon) and Dale Brown (and wife, Myrna), all of Portales; and three sisters, Mary Etta Greenlees (and husband, Bill) and Norma Morgan (and husband, Chuck), all of San Diego, and Gayle Greene of Albuquerque.
The Rev. Terrill Mitchell will officiate the services.
Burial will be at Mt. Zion Cemetery near Dora.
Pallbearers will be Mike Morgan, Billy Greenlees, Mack and Wendell Brown, Rick, Roger and Ron Jackson and Mike and Nelson Ackerman.
A memorial service will also be held at 3 p.m. Monday at Jal High School Auditorium. The Rev. Floyd Haddock will officiate.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Carolyn Awbrey Scholarship Fund, care of Wells Fargo Bank in Jal.
Arrangements are by Wheeler Mortuary of Portales.

Ruth Brownd
Services: Have been held.
Ruth Brownd, 87, of Phoenix, died Friday, June 4, 2004, in Phoenix.
She was born on June 30, 1916, in Gainesville, Texas, to Luther Thomas and Maude Ann Webster Mackey.
She was a graduate of New Deal (Texas) High School. She married Rance Verna Brownd on April 21, 1935, in Plainview, Texas. She moved to Phoenix in July of 2001. She had lived in Friona since 1976. She was a member of the Friona United Methodist Church and was active in United Methodist Women.
She was preceded in death by her husband; a son, Jerry Brownd; a brother, William T. Mackey; a sister, Gladys Mackey Fitts; and a grandson, Steven Wade Maddox.
Survivors include a daughter, Wanda Brownd of Phoenix; a sister, Ruby Reed of Lubbock; a brother, Howard Mackey of Gainesville, Texas; three grandchildren, Jana Barnett, Sherry Whitten and Kari Dietz; seven great-grandchildren, Beau, Breann, Briar and Brenner Barnett, Megan and Coby Whitten and Kiana Dietz.
The Rev. Steve Patterson will officiate the services.
Burial will be at Friona Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to a favorite charity.
Arrangements are by Blackwell Funeral Home of Friona.

Ruth Brownlow
Services: Have been held.
Mrs. Ruth Marie Brownlow, 72, of Santa Anna, Texas, formerly of Clovis, died Tuesday, April 29, 2003, at her home.
She was born on March 22, 1931, in Gouldbusk, Texas, to Louis and Susie Pittard Dowell.
She married William Buford Brownlow on Oct. 5, 1946, in Portales. She worked as a licensed vocational nurse in New Mexico. She was a resident of Santa Anna for nine years. She was a Baptist.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and three sisters, Helena Dowell, Louise Thomas and Judy Walker.
She is survived by her husband; two sons, Robert Brent Brownlow of Austin, Texas, and Marc Brownlow of San Antonio, Texas; two daughters, Carolyn Stoddard (and husband, Richard) of San Antonio and Cheryl Turner (and husband, Ronnie) of Brownwood, Texas; nine grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and a dear friend, Lucy Watson of Clovis.
Visitation is scheduled from 6 to 8 p.m. (CDT) tonight at Heartland Funeral Home in Early, Texas.
The Rev. R.J. Elkins will officiate the services.
Burial will be at Bangs Cemetery in Brownwood, Texas.
Arrangements are by Heartland Funeral Home of Early, Texas.

Verda Broyles
Services: Have been held.
Mrs. Verda Broyles, 100, of Clovis, a homemaker, died Thursday, Aug. 21, 2003, at her home.
She was born July 11, 1903, in Fox, Ark., to John and Martha Kendall Branscum.
She became a Christian at 16. She married Roy Edgar Broyles Sept. 3, 1922, in Mozart, Ark. In 1924, her family migrated to Shawnee, Okla., in a covered wagon. In 1930 ,they moved to Lamb County, Texas, in two Model T Fords. They moved to Clovis in 1978 from Tishomingo, Okla., where they had ranched for 16 years. She was a member of Parkland Baptist Church in Clovis.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a son, J.C.; a sister; and five brothers.
Survivors include five daughters, LaVonne McKillip of Muleshoe, Pat White (and husband, Phil) of Angel Fire, Anita Merrill (Lester) of Clovis, Anne Prater (Gerald) of Seminole, Okla., and Sondra Hugg (Clifford) of Portales; two sons, Ralph Broyles (Dean) of Friona and Bobby Broyles (Flo) of Clovis; a sister, Nova Woody of Seminole, Texas; 18 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; and several great-great-grandchildren.
The Rev. Doug Brooks will officiate the services.
Burial will be at Muleshoe Memorial Park in Muleshoe.
Pallbearers will be Lester Merrill, Phil White, Clifford Hugg, Gerald Prater, Ross McKillip, Johnny, Jimmy, Bobby Lynn, Maxine and Tommy Broyles, Wade Prater, Grant Morrison, Steve, David, Mike and Mark Merrill, Patcine Jenkins, Rene Hartman, Gina Whitworth, D’Ann Hobia, Mickie Herring and Vickie Copley.
Memorial contributions may be made to her Sunday School Class at Parkland Baptist Church.

VERNON BRUNKER
Services: Have been held.
Mr. Vernon Lee Brunker, 68, of Clovis, a truck driver, died Dec. 1, 2003, at his daughter’s home in Clovis.
He was born on Feb. 11, 1935, in Brush, Colo., to Richard and Sarah Brunker.
He had been a resident of Clovis the past 10 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters; and a daughter, Sharon Marie.
Survivors include two sons, Vernon Wayne Painter of Clovis and Vernon Lee Brunker Jr. of College Station, Texas; three daughters, Cheryl Painter of Clovis and Pat McNew and Pam Huckaby, both of College Station, Texas; a brother, Richard Brunker of England; two sisters, Letta Douglas and Audrey, both of Denver; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Jonathan Brock will officiate the services. Burial will be in Somerville, Texas.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Plains Regional Medical Center Cancer Center.
Arrangments are by Steed-Todd Funeral Home of Clovis.

Don Bruns
Mr. Don Bruns, 88, of Muleshoe, died Saturday, Aug. 2, 2003, at Parkview Nursing Home.
He was born on Feb. 25, 1915, in Mt. Park, Okla.
He married Marie Robertson on Sept. 30, 1939, in Clovis. He moved to Muleshoe from Farwell in 1949. He was a farmer and a member of the Church of Christ.
He was preceded in death by his wife; and two brothers, Les and Jack Bruns.
He is survived by a son, Ronald “Bud” Bruns (and wife, Julie) of Amarillo; three daughters, Donna Kay Pitman (and husband, Bob) of Amarillo, Debbie Joe Kemp (and husband, Terry) and Tammy Black (and husband, Tim), all of Muleshoe; a sister, Ruth Briscoe of Muleshoe; 13 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.
Curtis Shelburne and Nathan Hill will officiate the services.
Burial will take place in the Muleshoe Memorial Park Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to a favorite charity.
Arrangements are by Ellis Funeral Home of Muleshoe.

MARCOS BRYAN JR.
Services: Have been held.
Marcos Bryan Jr., infant, of Bovina, died Saturday, Oct. 18, 2003, at his home.
He was born on July 25, 2003, in Clovis, to Marcos Bryan and Veronica DeLaRosa.
He is survived by his parents; a half brother, Isaac Bryan of Clovis; a half sister, Jessica Bryan of Clovis; and his grandparents, Linda Arizmendez of Bovina, Lupe DeLaRosa of San Antonio, Texas, and Ceferino Sierra and Ignacia Sierra, both of Muleshoe.
Father Ken Keller will officiate the services.
Burial will be at Bovina Cemetery.
Arrangements are by Blackwell Funeral Home of Friona.

Patricia Bunger
Services: Have been held.
Patricia Jean “Pat” Bunger, 60, of Clovis, died Monday, June 7, 2004, at Covenant Medical Center in Lubbock.
She was born Oct. 30, 1943, to Edward and Mary McCann Hatchett in San Benito, Texas. She received her bachelor degree in education from Arizona State University. She was a computer technician at Clovis Community College, active member of Central Baptist Church, and the director of Servant Ministries.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Survivors include a son, Glenn Everett Bunger of New York; two daughters, Debbie Catherine Forster (and husband, Neil) of London, and Bonnie Christine Curry (Ernest) of Arlington, Texas; three granddaughters, Erin and Staci Curry and Jessica Forster; two sisters, Julie Groom of London and Mary Bonds of Atlanta; and a brother, Terry Hatchett of New York.
Mike Eberhardt will officiate the services.
Cremation has taken place.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Servant Ministries in care of Central Baptist Church, 2501 N. Norris, Clovis, N.M. 88101.
Arrangements are by Muffley Funeral Home of Clovis.

Elmer Burnett
Services: Have been held.
Mr. Elmer Burnett, 91, of Clovis, a farmer, died Tuesday, May 27, 2003, at Plains Regional Medical Center in Clovis.
He was born on Feb. 27, 1912, in Bellview, to Thomas and Mazie Mitchell Burnett.
He had lived in the Bellview much of his life where he and his wife farmed. They moved to Clovis in 1977. He was a member of Kingswood United Methodist Church in Clovis.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Jimmy and Robert Burnett; two brothers, W. Tom and Clinton Burnett; a sister, Wilma Williams; and a granddaughter, Miranda Lei Burnett.
He is survived by his wife, Elsie Burnett of Clovis; a son, Joe Burnett of Amarillo; a sister, Pauline Campbell of Clovis; a sister-in-law, Helen Burnett of Clovis; 11 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; and several great-great-grandchildren.
The Rev. Brad Reeves will officiate the services.
Burial will be at Lawn Haven Memorial Gardens in Clovis.
Pallbearers will be his grandsons.
Arrangements are by Steed-Todd Funeral Home of Clovis.

Herbert Burch
Services: Have been held.
Herbert L. Burch, 85, of Anahuac, Texas, died Monday, Dec. 22, 2003, at the Bayside Community Hospital in Anahuac.
He was born on April 17, 1918, in Clovis, to Dennie L. and Cora Harmon Burch.
He resided in the Clovis and Anahuac areas throughout his life. He was a retired self-employed contractor. He graduated from House High School in 1936. He was a member, a deacon and a member of the choir at Parkland Baptist Church in Clovis. Family members said he will be remembered as master carpenter, a perfectionist and wonderful story teller. He enjoyed fishing, deer hunting and farming.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Horace Burch; and a sister, Setha Bouse.
Survivors include his wife, Marybelle Lee-Burch of Anahuac; five sisters, Edna Penick of New Mexico, Myrtle Hoffsker of Washington, Virginia Strickland of New Mexico, Juanita McBride of New Mexico and Shirley Snider of Austin, Texas; four brothers, Leroy “Peewee” Burch of New Mexico, Michael “Windy” Burch of New Mexico, Johnny Burch of Colorado and Harvey Burch of Colorado; a friend and caregiver, Nita Lewis of Anahuac; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
The Rev. Wayne Hargraves officiated at the services.
Burial was at Anahuac Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Parkland Baptist Church, 921 Parkland Dr., Clovis, NM 88101 or a charity of your choice.
Arrangements were by Sterling Funeral Homes of Anahuac.

Marjorie Burkel
Services: Have been held.
Mrs. Marjorie Burkel, 83, of Portales, died Thursday morning, Oct. 16, 2003, at Roosevelt General Hospital in Portales.
She was born on May 30, 1920, in Smithville, Mo., to Lela and Joshua E. Kindred.
She grew up in Smithville and graduated from high school there in 1938. On Aug. 25, 1940, she married Lou Burkel. In 1965, they moved to Portales where she worked from 1966 until 1992 as a school librarian.
She was an active member of First Presbyterian Church in Portales and the Mariners Sunday school class. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, quilting, and other hand work, and for many years she was active in the Duplicate Bridge Club. Family members said she was a wonderful cook and avid reader.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Josh Kindred Jr., and a sister, Judy Fisher.
She is survived by her husband; two sons, Louis (and wife Sandy) Burkel of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Paul (Wanda) Burkel of Lake Forest, Calif.; a daughter, Susan Sampson of San Antonio, Texas; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Dr. Glen McCoy officiated the memorial service at First Presbyterian Church in Portales. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or to the church.
Arrangements were by Wheeler Mortuary in Portales.

Elmer Burnett
Services: Have been held.
Mr. Elmer Burnett, 91, of Clovis, a farmer, died Tuesday, May 27, 2003, at Plains Regional Medical Center in Clovis.
He was born on Feb. 27, 1912, in Bellview, to Thomas and Mazie Mitchell Burnett.
He had lived in the Bellview much of his life where he and his wife farmed. They moved to Clovis in 1977. He was a member of Kingswood United Methodist Church in Clovis.

Mable Burton
Services: Have been held.
Mrs. Mable V. Burton, 94, of Albuquerque, a housewife, died Friday, May 9, 2003, in Albuquerque.
She was born on July 5, 1908, in Shawnee, Okla. She was a resident of Clovis for more than 50 years. She married Nick Burton on June 21, 1931, in Clovis.
She was a member of Highland Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday school and played the piano for a number of years.
Family members said she was loved and will be greatly missed.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Nick, of 43 years.
Survivors include one daughter, Wynona (and husband Roy) Willis of Albuquerque; two sons, Ron (and wife Ganchana) of Albuquerque and Gary (and wife Connie) of Quinlan, Texas; one granddaughter, Michele Bonds Gonzales of Albuquerque; and three grandsons, Aut Burton of Alameda, Calif., Aaron Burton of San Diego, Calif., and Nicholas Burton of Paris, Texas.
A viewing with the family is set for 1 p.m. Monday.
The Rev. Amy Jordan will officiate the services.
Burial will follow at Lawn Haven Memorial Gardens.
Memorials may be made to Plains Regional Home/Health Hospice, 1600 W. 21st St., Clovis.
Arrangements are by Steed-Todd Funeral Home of Clovis.
