JAMES P. CLIFTON, of Santa Fe, died at home Sunday following a short illness. At the College of Santa Fe, he taught World Religions and introductory courses in the study of religion. He was a member of the Xaverian order, a small religious community headquartered in Baltimore.
From 1977 to 1983, he served as the superior general of the order. A religion scholar, writer and active committee volunteer, he came to the College of Santa Fe in 1984. He previously taught at Xaverian College in Maryland and at the Catholic University in Washington, D.C., where he received his bachelor's degree in English. He held a doctorate in theology from the University of Saint Thomas in Rome. At CSF, he served on many college committees and was head of the institution's faculty council in the 1980s. He presented academic papers at meetings of the Society of Biblical Literature and the Catholic Biblical Association and was a frequent speaker at meetings of the Catholic Theological Society. A special memorial Mass will be held at 4 p.m. Thursday at St. Michael's Chapel on the campus of the College of Santa Fe. A reception will follow at the Southwest Annex on campus. CASSANDRA GALLEGOS, 14, died Sunday after a long illness. She was born July 23, 1989. She was preceded in death by her paternal grandfather, Abelino Cordova; maternal great-grandparents, Domingo and Paula Martinez and Brigida Gallegos; uncles, Orlando Martinez and Robert Cordova Sr.; and a cousin, Daniel Romo. She is survived by her mother, Yvonne and husband Jerry Pacheco of Rio Lucio; maternal grandparents who raised her, Joe and Cecilia Gallegos of Peņasco; paternal grandparents, Maclovia and Anselmo of Las Vegas, Nev.; paternal great-grandmother, Eloisa Cordova of Chamisal; stepgrandparents, Mike and Tina Pacheco of Rio Lucio; godparents, Joseph and Annette Gallegos of Rodarte; father, Victor Cordova Sr.; brother, Victor Cordova Jr.; aunts, Lori Johnson and husband Kenny of Santa Fe, Juanita Duran and husband Erminio of Rodarte, and Doris Fernandez and husband Michael of Tijeras; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Visitation will be held at 3 p.m. today at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Peņasco, with a rosary to be recited at 7 p.m. Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Peņasco, with burial to follow at the Llano de San Juan Cemetery in Llano de San Juan. PETER IRVING HIRSCH, 86, of Santa Fe, died Sunday. He was preceded in death by his wife, Judy McCord Hirsch. He graduated from Harvard in 1937; was awarded the Bronze Star in World War II; and owned and operated Bennett Schneider Bookstore. He served on the National Board of American Booksellers Association, and the board of directors for the Kansas City Museum, SWAIA and the Wheelright Museum. He was the tourism director for the state of New Mexico, wrote "Last Man in Paradise" and served as an art critic for the New Mexican. He was also a big game hunter and a dedicated and passionate fly fisherman. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Charlie and Jil Seel of Minneapolis; daughter and son-in-law, Ronnie and Rodney Denny of Phoenix; and son David Hirsch. He also leaves four grandchildren, as well as three great-grandchildren. IRENE LANON, 78, of Angel Fire and formerly of Oklahoma City, died Monday. She and her late husband, Guy Lanon, retired to Angel Fire in 1979. She was a Girl Scout leader and member of the Hillcrest Presbyterian Church in Oklahoma City. She was owner of Mountain Home Services Inc. in Angel Fire. She was a loving mother and grandmother. She is survived by her children, Douglas Guy Lanon (Cathy) of Moore, Okla., Vicki Lanon of Angel Fire, Rogers Lanon (Sumner Ann) of Albuquerque, and her niece and nephews, whom she felt were her own children. She is also survived by her grandchildren. A memorial service will be held on Friday at United Church of Angel Fire. PETRA "PETRITA" T. PADILLA, 99, of Taos, died Friday. She was a member of the Taosenas and War Mothers. She was preceded in death by her husband, Candido Padilla, sons, Tony R. Padilla, Jake Padilla and Candido Padilla; two grandchildren; and brothers and sisters, Matilde, Adelina, Bentura, Rafaelita and Amadeo. She is survived by her daughters, Rebecca Valdez (Edward) of Santa Fe and Marcella Sandoval (Gilbert) of Colorado Springs, daughter-in-law, Tina Padilla of Albuquerque. She is also survived by several grandchildren and great-granchildren. A rosary will be recited at 7 tonight at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. A funeral mass will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church. Rivera-Hanlon Funeral Home. MARIO B. ZALDIVAR, 24, of Las Vegas, N.M., died Friday. He was born in Whittier, Calif., on Oct. 28, 1978. He attended West Las Vegas High School and Robertson High School. He worked at Ray's Auto Sales as a mechanic. He enjoyed fishing and being with his friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Mario Zaldivar; maternal grandfather, George Ortiz; and paternal grandfather, Delfino Saldivar. He is survived by his mother, Darlene Ortiz of Las Vegas, N.M.; three sons, Isaiah Shrum, Isaac Zaldivar and Anthony Cruz Zaldivar, all of Las Vegas, N.M.; one daughter, Jazrella Jazriel Montoya of Las Vegas, N.M.; two sisters, Cynthia Zaldivar and Sonia Vigil and husband David, all of Las Vegas, N.M.; three brothers, Michael Zaldivar, Mathew Silva and Miles Ortiz, all of Las Vegas, N.M., paternal grandmother, Elena Barriga Saldivar of Mexico; maternal grandmother, Elsie H. Ortiz of Boise, Idaho; great-aunt, Mary Lou Gonzales of Las Vegas, N.M.; special friend, Jesusita "Susa" Herrera of Las Vegas, N.M.; aunts and uncles, Faith and Levi Chavez of Las Vegas, N.M., Lynette and Tom Neill of Covina, Calif., Jesse and Stella Ortiz of Pamona, Calif., George Ortiz of Boise, Idaho, Pete Esparza of Las Vegas, N.M., George and Kathy Zaldivar of Los Angeles, Lucy Zaldivar of Anaheim, Calif., Julietta and Javier Cardenas of Yorba Linda, Calif., and Gloria of Los Angeles; and numerous cousins. BARBARA JANE ALLEN, 75, died of a long illness Thursday.
She was a long-term resident of La Mesilla. She was a CRNA working at the Espaņola Hospital from 1957 to 1974 and legally adopted four children.
She is survived by her daughters, Kim Avila and husband Henry of La Mesilla, Robin Estrada of Albuquerque, and Pamela Allen of Espaņola; son, Terry Allen of Espaņola; two grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.
Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday at the Valley View United Methodist Church with a reception to follow in the fellowship hall.

CHRISTINE BELLIEU CAMPBELL, 72, of Santa Fe died Wednesday after a long illness.
She was a member of the Osage Indian tribe and was originally from Arkansas City, Kan. She had been a resident of Santa Fe for over 20 years. Christine attended college in Lawrence, Kan. where she studied English. She had a special interest in the Red Hot Chilis Jazz Band.
She is survived by her children, Stephen F. Campbell, Stuart W. Campbell, Nancy Christine Sang and Charlotte Ann Campbell; granddaughter, Marinda Christine Sang; and great-grandchildren, Jacey Christine Sang, and Tyler Jace Sang.
A private family service will be held Arkansas City, Kan. at a later date.

ANDREA SENDON MILDENBERGER died December 6, 2003 after a long illness.
She attended public schools and graduated from Waco High School in Waco, Texas. She graduated from Baylor University earning a bachelors degree and master's degree. Her majors were Spanish and education. While studying for her masters, she also taught courses in the Spanish department. She did further graduate study at La Universudad Automina, Automina de Mexico in Mexican history and literature, graduate study at the University of Texas, Austin; University of Houston, New York University, Escuela Normal de Tamatan, Ciudad Vistoria Tamaulipas, Mexico and the New School for Social Research, N.Y., N.Y. (Portuguese and Italian courses). After four years of teaching foreign language in the Houston Schools, she became Supervisor of Foreign Languages in the Houston Elementary and Secondary Schools. She moved to Washington D.C. to join the United States Department of Education for four years and was Foreign Language Specialist in the Instructional Branch. Then she was Foreign Language Consultant in the division of Teacher Education for City University of New York. She was co-author of the Holt Rhine Heart and Winston Publishing Company's series in Spanish entitled Entender y Hablar and Hablar y Leer. She wrote and produced TV programs and educational films for teaching Spanish. She taught Spanish in Texas and New Mexico, and taught college level courses at Baylor University, University of Houston, Texas University, and Hunter College. She had a love of history, particularly of Mexico and ended her teaching career in Sayville and Northport, New York. She supervised the teaching of foreign languages in each of the school systems. When she retired, she moved to Santa Fe and pursued her hobbies of quilting and poetry, along with history. She was a docent at the Museum of New Mexico, a member of Newcomers Club, Santa Fe Cancer Society (served as co-chairman of the annual gala for several years), AAUW, Women's Division of Chamber of Commerce, La Tierra del Oro Home Owners Association, and the 599 Coalition.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Kenneth Mildenberger; and parents, Prof. and Mrs. Andres R. Sendon.
She is survived by her sister, Dolores S. Morse; and many other relatives.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, Santa Fe Branch and Presbyterian Medical Services-Hospice Center.

LEROY A. BACA, 61, died Monday after a long battle with cancer.
He was raised in Roy and on the family ranch in Sabinoso. He was preceded in death by his parents, Sacramento and Annie Baca. He is survived by his wife, Gerri; children, Leroy Jr., Jeana and Annette; siblings, Charlie Baca and wife Margaret, Secundo Baca and wife Annie, Eloisa Esquibel and husband Alberto, Helen Baca, Irene Lindberger, Robert Baca and wife Billie, Emma Gonzales and husband Leo, Bertha Martinez, Mike Baca and wife Rosemarie, Gilbert Baca and wife Caroline, Sacramento Baca and wife Bertha Rose, Esther Self and husband Marvin, and John Baca and wife Pam. A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. today at Santa Maria de la Paz Catholic Church. Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday at the same church with burial to follow at Rosario Cemetery. A gathering will follow at the Fraternal Order of Eagles. Memorial donations may be made in his name to Santa Maria de la Paz Catholic Community Church. Berardinelli Family Funeral Service, 984-8600.
