EMILIA M. MAES, 81, of Dixon died Monday after a short illness. She was preceded in death by her husband, Felix E. Maes; and brothers, Manuel and Gilbert Martinez. She is survived by her children, Theresa Marquez and husband Jose, Minnie Ortiz, Belarmino Maes, Clyde Maes and girlfriend Gloria Sisneros, all of Dixon, and Clara Garcia and husband Bernie Salazar of Taos; sisters, Anita Martinez, Juanita Gonzales and husband Jose F. and Maybel Martinez; 16 grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. today at the Apostolic Praise Temple of Dixon with burial to follow at the Apostolic Cemetery. DeVargas Funeral Home of the Española Valley, 747-7477.

MYRLE IRENE MACALLISTER, 85, died Monday after a short illness. She was born in Rivers, Manitoba, Canada. Both of her parents were born on the American frontier. Her father, Eugene, was stationmaster for the Canadian National Railway and owned large wheat and barley farms. Her mother, Verna, had been a schoolteacher and full-time mother. She spent her childhood in Canada, where her parents were very involved in the community. She came to the United States to attend business college in Hibbing, Minn., and later completed her bachelor's degree at the University of Colorado in Boulder. She came to Santa Fe in 1970 when her husband accepted a transfer with the Federal Highway Administration. She was very proud of her Scottish heritage. She was a founding member of the New Mexico Clan Donald and Associated Scots, and she remained extremely active in its growth and development over the years. She was a member of the Santa Fe chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, a longtime parishioner at the Episcopal Church of the Holy Faith and active with the Episcopal Mission of St. Thomas in Santa Fe. She was a frequent volunteer for many other charitable causes in Santa Fe. She is survived by her son, Bruce and wife Debbie MacAllister of Tesuque; daughters, Glennis Shea and husband Patrick of Lakewood, Colo., and Kim LaCoco and husband Michael of Flower Mound, Texas; seven grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends. Visitation will be held 4-6 p.m. today at McGee Memorial Chapel. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at the Episcopal Church of the Holy Faith with burial to follow at Santa Fe National Cemetery. McGee Memorial Chapel, 983-9151.

MARY R. CATA, 96, of San Juan Pueblo died Monday after a short illness.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Isidor Cata; and sons, Cecilio Cata and Gregorio Tapia. She is survived by her children, Herman Agoyo and wife Rachele, Donald A. Cata Sr. and wife Mabel, Carol Ann Cata, Margaret Taylor and husband Jerry and Stella Clay, all of San Juan, and Donald James Gonzales and wife Jackie of San Ildefonso; sister, Santanita Suazo of Santa Clara; 22 grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends. A funeral service will be held at 9 a.m. today at the First Indian Baptist Church in Española with burial to follow at the San Juan Pueblo Cemetery. STEVE JOHNATHAN DURAN-Johnson of Las Vegas, N.M., died Sunday at St. Vincent Hospital after a long illness. He was preceded in death by his father, Stoney Johnson. Johnson; and sons, Steven, Nathan and Kevin, all of Las Vegas, N.M.; brothers, Stoney Johnson and wife Judy of Las Vegas, N.M., Benji Torres and wife Carol and Billy Johnson and wife Cecilia, all of Guadalupita, Johnny Johnson of Denver, Eloy Lucero and wife Susie of Las Vegas, N.M., and Gilbert Martinez of Kansas City, Kan.; sisters, Brenda Duran and husband Phillip Arellanes of Las Vegas, N.M., Caroline Herrera and husband David of Bell, Calif., Margie Williams-Johnson and Betsy Martinez, both of Guadalupita, Evonne Montoya and husband Alex of Rainsville, Louise Sanchez and husband Rudy of Guadalupita, Marilyn Apodaca and husband Esperion of Albuquerque; mother of his children, Christine Barela of Las Vegas, N.M.; and many other relatives and friends. SELONISE "LUPE" M. HERMOSIO, 77, of Truchas died Sunday. She was a loving wife, sister and aunt. She was preceded in death by her husband, Raphael Hermosillo; brother, Manuel Montoya; sisters, Celia Montoya, Susanna Jaramillo and Flora Tobar. She is survived by her brother, Adonias Montoya; sister, Josie Lopez of Cordova; and many other relatives and friends. CLAUDETTE S. MARTINEZ, 29, of Rio Chama died Sunday following injuries suffered in an automobile accident. She is survived by her mother, Annette Gonzales and stepfather, Anthony of Rio Chama; father, Dennis Vigil of Chimayó; brothers and sisters, Kimberly Sanchez and companion Archie Martinez of Española, and Juanita and Gabriel Vigil, both of Chimayó; and many other relatives and friends. MARY PINO MARTINEZ, 86, of Santa Fe died Saturday after a long illness. She was born in Santa Fe but lived most of her life in Taos, where she was married to former state Sen. Palemon R. Martinez. She was affectionately called "Mama Mary" by both friends and family. She received her basic education at the Loretto Academy in Santa Fe. Upon graduation, she attended the University of New Mexico, where she graduated with a bachelor of science degree. She later received a full scholarship to Columbia University, where she earned her master's degree in social welfare. She returned to New Mexico and worked for the state Welfare Department until her marriage and then moved to Taos and served for over 25 years as the juvenile probation officer for Taos County until her retirement in 1982. Because of her dedication to the children and youth of New Mexico, she received numerous awards and tributes throughout her professional career. Just a few of these included: the Leading Hispanic in Taos County award, presented by LULAC; the 1992 Women of Distinction Award for Services to Youth and Family, presented by Gov. Bruce King; the Certificate of Achievement for Contributions to Women in the State of New Mexico, presented by the New Mexico Women's Conference; the Certificate of Recognition for Outstanding Services in the Field of Corrections, presented by yhe New Mexico Association of Criminal Justice; the Distinguished Service Award for Work in Social Services, presented by the state Bar Association of New Mexico. In 1982, she was the first woman to be appointed as an honorary member to the state Supreme Court for outstanding service to children and youth in New Mexico. She was preceded in death by her husband; brothers, Anthony Pino, Manuel Pino and Apolonio Pino; and sister, Louisa Pino Trujillo. She is survived by stepdaughters, Patricia Pena, Margaret Hurtado, Marcella Valerio and husband Dan; stepson, Librado Chavez and wife Patricia; eight grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends. VANESSA DANIELLE ALYSSA-SIMONE MEDINA, 19, of Las Vegas, N.M., died Saturday. She was raised with her family in Ribera. Most recently, she was a resident of Albuquerque, where she was a student at TVI. She graduated from West Las Vegas High School in May 2003. She was musically inclined, loved listening to music, had a passion for reading, and loved watching movies with her sisters and spending time with family and friends. She is survived by her parents, Judy and Jerry Vigil; sisters, Angelique "Chickie" Medina and Natalie Ann Vigil; stepbrothers, Jason and Stevieray; stepsisters, Shannon and Patsy Halley; father, Carlos "Chuck" Medina and wife Michelle; and many other relatives and friends. BOB HOLDEN of Santa Fe died Friday while dancing at the Santa Fe Community Body Choir's fourth anniversary celebration.
An accomplished watercolorist and yoga instructor, he led a full life. His last years in Santa Fe seemed his happiest and most fulfilling. He is survived by his daughters, Cassandra and Althea Holden; and many other relatives and friends. JAKE HONEYCUTT, 81, of Ojo Caliente died Sunday after a long illness. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having participated in the battle of Normandy and the battle of the Bulge, and was the recipient of the Good Conduct Medal and the Victory Medal. When he came to the Valley in 1945, he worked in the propane business for 45 years in the Española and Ojo Caliente areas. He was a member of the Española and Ojo Caliente Volunteer Fire Department and a former member of the Rio Arriba County Sheriff's Posse. He also was a Sunday School teacher and enjoyed the outdoors. He is survived by his wife, Ollie Honeycutt of Ojo Caliente; children, Jake Honeycutt Jr. and wife Jan of Del Norte, Colo., Kenneth Honeycutt of Albuquerque, Larry Honeycutt and wife Rhonda of Abiquiu; four grandchildren; brother, W.A. Honeycutt and wife Minnie Louise of Moffitt, Colo.; sister, Ruby Crane of Austin, Texas; and many other friends and relatives. A funeral service will be held at noon Thursday at the Sangre de Cristo Chapel at DeVargas Funeral Home with burial to follow at 2 p.m. at the Santa Fe National Cemetery. Martinez Jr. and wife Cathy, Nicolas G.G. Martinez and Andrea Chavez, and Ian Escudero, all of Santa Fe, Joe M. Serna IV of Albuquerque, James M. Kesler and wife Emily of Wisconsin, Joseph Sena and fianceé Denise Quintana of Rio Rancho, and Aaron G. Grace and Tanya Roth of Taos; sister, Veronica L. Grace and Manny V. Griego III; and many other relatives. A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Thursday at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church.
Mass will be celebrated at 9 a.m. Friday at the same church.
