Brian Simsovic, 17, of Las Trampas passed away unexpectedly on Feb. 23, 2001. Memorial service was held on Feb. 28, 2001. Memorial Mass will be on Thursday, March 1, 2001, at 10:30 a.m. at Las Trampas Catholic Church with burial to follow at Las Trampas cemetery. Arrangements by Rivera-Hanlon Funeral Home.

Joe Gerald Maes, Jr. 42, of Costilla passed away unexpectedly on Feb. 24, 2001. Rosary was recited on Feb. 28, 2001. Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, March 1, 2001, at 11 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Costilla with burial to follow at Amalia cemetery. Arrangements by Rivera-Hanlon Funeral Home.

Jose Aladino Gallegos, born June 24, 1919, in Questa, N.M., 82, a resident of Albuquerque, went to meet his Lord on Feb. 24, 2001. His loving wife, Lucy Sanchez Gallegos, and son, Joey Gallegos, preceded him in death. He was inducted into the US Army on Jan. 5, 1942, and received his basic training at For Bliss, Texas.
On March 23, 1944, in New York, he boarded the Queen Mary arriving in England on April 6, 1944. As a member of Co. B 16 Tank Battalion, 90 Infantry Division, he participated in the Normandy Invasion at Utah Beach.
He was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, EAME Ribbon with one Silver Star in lieu of five Bronze Stars, one Bronze Arrowhead, Victory medal and the American Theater Medal. At the end of the war, he left Europe on Oct. 6, 1945 arriving in the USA on Oct. 13, 1945. He received his Honorable Discharge on Dec. 9, 1945. Jose Aladino Gallegos and Lucy Sanchez were married at Cerro, N.M., on Jan. 12, 1946. Shortly after he went to work for the Game and Fish Department at the Red River Hatchery. For 20 years, he traveled the roads of New Mexico distributing fish from the Red River Hatchery. He was promoted to Assistant Foreman at the Red River Hatchery then to Foreman at the Pecos Lisboa State Fish Hatchery from where he retired. He then went back to his beloved Questa. He is survived by his father-in-law, Felix Sanchez, age 102 from Questa, N.M., his five children, Jose Lorenzo Gallegos and wife, Rosemary F. Gallegos, Rosemarie Gallegos, Naomi Gallegos, Loretta Gallegos and Bennie Gallegos and wife, Rita Gallegos. Sisters include, Eva Montoya, Albuquerque and Domitilia Quintana, Questa, N.M. Mr. Gallegos is survived by his eight grandchildren, Marie Elena Paulson, Eugene Miera, Judy Martinez, Yvette Miera, Feliz Gallegos, Gabriel Miera, Joey Gallegos and Cristobal Gallegos. Our mom and dad supported and encouraged higher education for their children and grandchildren. Visitation for Mr. Gallegos was held on Feb. 27, 2001, at Saint Anthony's church in Questa. A rosary was held on Feb. 27, 2001, at 7 p.m. at Saint Anthony's Church in Questa, N.M. Mass of Christian Burial was held on Feb. 28, 2001, at Saint Anthony's Church, Questa, N.M. Interment followed at the Veterans National cemetery in Santa Fe, N.M. where his beloved wife awaited him. Serving as pallbearers were his grandchildren Eugene Miera, Gabriel Miera, Joey Gallegos, Miera Elena Paulson, Feliz Gallegos, Yvette Miera, and Judy Martinez. Arrangements by Rivera-Hanlon Funeral Home.

Agneda G. Dimas, 79 a lifelong resi dent of Taos passed away on June 22, 2001. She is survived by her sis ters Consuelo Dimas of Las Colonias and Rita Dimas of Ranchitos, sister in law Mary N. Dimas of La Loma. She is also survived by nieces and neph ews Christine Martinez (Gerald), An drew Gonzales (Yolanda), Cecilia Di mas, Gabino Dimas all of Las Colo nias, Frances Cruz (Dennis), George Dimas (Maria), Raymond Dimas, Martin Dimas (Francina) all of Taos, Martha Martinez (Larry) of San Luis, CO, Sam Dimas (Patsy), Carlos Dimas (Mary Jean) and Mary Ellen Dimas all of Texas. Rosary was recited on June 24, 2001. Funeral mass was held on June 25, 2001. Both services were held at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Interment was held at Las Cruces cemetery. Arrangements by Rivera-Hanlon Funeral Home.

Eliria Romero, 82 of Talpa passed away on June 29, 2001. She is pre ceded in death by her husband Severo Romero, sons Tony and Arturo Romero. She is survived by children Matilda Suazo, Ruben Romero Both of Denver, Margarita Manzanares of El Prado, Tomas Romero of Talpa, Francella Gloria Faye Acosta and Shirley Stearns (Neal) all of Denver. She is also survived by sister Natividad Espinoza and brother Adolfo Herrera. Rosary was recited on June 21, 2001. Funeral service was held on June 25, 2001. Both services were held the Talpa Capilla. Interment was held at Talpa cemetery. Arrangements by Rivera-Hanlon Funeral Home.

Jennie Verona, 86 of Taos passed away on June 22, 2001. She is sur vived by daughters Diane Gherardi (Robert) of New Bern, NC and Paula Verona Madappa (Krishna) of Taos. She is also survived by grandchildren Mark Fishman, Pamela Fishman Tay lor, Tumi Madappa and Ariana Madappa. Cremation arrangements by Rivera-Hanlon Funeral Home.

Jose Elfirio Medina, 80 of San Cris tobal passed away on June 20, 2001. He was born on March 13, 1921 to Fermin & Delfina Medina. He is sur vived by 9 children, 1 brother, 32 grandchildren and 14 great grandchil dren. Services were held on June 22 and June 23, 2001 at San Cristobal Church. Interment took place at San Cristobal cemetery. Arrangements by Rivera-Hanlon Funeral Home.

Vaulta Marie Schane werk, 97, a homemaker, died Tuesday, June 19, 2001, in Fort Worth. Funeral: 9:30 a.m. Thursday in Greenwood Chapel. Burial: Greenwood Memorial Park. Memorials: Fort Worth Sympho ny, 330 East 4th Street, Fort Worth, Texas 76102. Vaulta Marie Schane werk was born July 14, 1903, in Rockwall County. Her life was music. She was an accomplished pianist, who had a great love for the Fort Worth Symphony. Vaulta was preceded in death by her husband, Earl; son, Ken-neth, a former master violinist for the Fort Worth Symphony; sisters, Lela Bruce, Vera Faris and Beulah Tarleton; and brothers, Hughlon, Virgil, Cleon and Leon Handley. Darrell Scott Jaramillo, 32 of Arroyo Hondo passed away on June 17, 2001. He graduated from the 53rd New Mexico State Police Recruit School on June 5, 1993. He was stationed in Chapperal, NM for over two years and then was reassigned to Santa Fe in District One in 1995, he was then promoted to Sgt. and reassigned to training and recruiting on March 18, 2000. His accomplishments in the State Police include the following, Officer of the Year in 1996 for the Las Cruces District, Officer of the Year in 1998 for the Santa Fe District as well of Officer of the Year in 1998 for the entire New Mexico State Police. He was one of the first recipients of the Medal of Val- or for his heroic actions that occurred in 1994, the highest award for a state Police officer. He is preceded in death by paternal grandparents Nazario and Fininia Jaramillo and cousin J.J. Jaramillo. He is survived by his wife Bernadette Jaramillo and daughter Larissa Jaramillo, stepsons A.J. and Antonio Herrera all of Santa Fe, father Nick Jaramillo (Patsy Cordova), moth- er Trudy Arellano (Danny) all of Ar- royo Hondo, sister Darla Jaramillo (Craig Gonzales) of Albuquerque and brother Delfino Arellano of Pueblo, Colorado. He is also survived by step- daughter Rose Trujillo all of Santa Fe, maternal grandparents Trivinio and Ursula Martinez of Questa, parents in law Arsenio and Eufilia Fernandez of Espanola, godson Tommy Jaramillo, Jr., goddaughter Loren Michelle Gar- cia, sisters and brothers in law Maria Armijo (Chris), Lorraine Valdez (Pe- dro), Irene Montoya (Eliseo), Clara Flores (Ernie), Josie Krauss (Harvey), Brenda Ortiz (Nathan), Tony Valerio, Joseph Gutierrez, uncles Armando Jaramillo (Erma), Edmundo Jaramillo (Isabelle), Paul Jaramillo (Jenny), Jerry Jaramillo (Leanne), Clyde Martinez, Walter Martinez (Christine), Alan Martinez (Gloria), Dean Martinez, Russell Martinez (Frances), Joe Martinez (Janis), aunts Gloria Gonzales (Frank), Qurinia Sanchez (David), Carol Rael (Frank), Jeannie Baca (Mike), Debbie Cisneros (Daniel), Lorraine Montoya (Lawrence) as well as many other relatives, friends and 605 New Mexico State Police Officers. Rosaries were recited on Tuesday, June 19, 2001 at San Isidro Catholic Church in Santa Fe and on Wednesday, June 20, 2001 at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church in Arroyo Hondo. Funeral mass will be held on Thursday, June 21, 2001 at 10 A.M. at Our Lady of Sorrows Church with burial to follow at Upper Arroyo Hondo cemetery. Eulogy will be provided by Chief Taylor & Jeannie Baca. Arrangements by Rivera-Hanlon Funeral Home.

Alfred "Duno" Lucero Jr. 45 of Ranchitos died unexpectedly on June 11, 2001 in Taos. He is preceded in death by his grandparents, Margarita & Eduardo Romo. Duno was born on May 2, 1956 in San Francisco, Calif., and was raised in Taos. He graduated from Taos High School in 1974 and graduated from Highlands University with Honors in 1978, where he received his BA in Business Administration. Duno returned to Taos and worked for H & R Block. He was currently self-employed. Duno loved fishing, taking care of his trees and flowers, and recently begun to build a new home in Los Colonias. Duno is survived by his mother, Olivia Lucero, Sisters: Darlene Lucero, Mildred Herrera (and husband Dan), Doris Jeantete (and husband Chuck). Brothers; Wilfred Lucero (and wife Claudette), Fred Lucero (and wife Ana), many aunts, uncles, special nieces & nephews and numerous other relatives and friends. Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Thursday, June 14, 2001 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church. Interment at Jesus Nazareno cemetery. Serving as honorary pallbearers were his nieces and nephews. The family of Alfred "Duno" Lucero have placed their trust with Sisneros-Lafollette Family Funeral Service of Taos.

Jeffery H. Long, 43 passed away un- expectedly on June 1, 2001. He is survived by his son Austin Long of Las Vegas Nev., father Donual Long of San Acacio, Colo., and mother Mary Jo Cockley of Arkansas. Cremation arrangements have taken place through Rivera-Hanlon Funeral Home.

Marcia A. Wheaton, 93 of El Prado passed away on June 18, 2001. She was preceded in death by her husband Tom E. Wheaton in 1996. Marcia is survived by her children Tom R. Wheaton (Elaine) of Albuquerque, Novella Nied (Veit) of Tongo, South Pacific and Arabella Baca (Edward) of Virginia. She is also survived by grandchildren Michelle Appelman, Michael Wheaton, Denise Melind, Jon Eric Ebia, Mia Zur, Kyle Baca, great granddaughter Natalie Arabella Zur and sister Viola Brown (Joe) of Hayward, Calif. Funeral service will be held on Thursday, June 21, 2001 at 2 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church with burial to follow at Sierra Vista cemetery. Arrangements by Rivera-Hanlon Funeral Home.

Albino Jose Struck 77, of Ranchos de Taos passed away on April 10, 2001. Mr. Struck was born on Feb. 13, 1924, to Wallace and Raquel Struck in La Jarita. Colo., and later served in the Navy during WW II as Seaman First Class. He married Dolores Martinez in 1949 in Raton, N.M.
Mr. Struck worked at the Standard Register Printing Co. in California, the Union Pacific Railroad, Bethany Steel Co., the New Mexico State Capital, State Highway, State Surveyor and The Zia Company on Los Alamos. He is survived by his wife, Dolores of Ranchos de Taos, children, Velma Trujillo and husband, Jerry, Lawrence Struck, Stephen Struck and wife Peggy and Syria Struck and husband, Ray, eight grandchildren, Shannon Martinez, Marcos Struck, Melanie Trujillo, Santiago Struck, Antonia Marquez, Valerie Marquez, Santana Struck and Reyes Gomez, 12 great-grandchildren, brothers, Tony, Bobby and Abran Struck and sister, Ernestine Martinez all of California. Cremation took place. A Memorial Mass was celebrated. Burial took place at Santa Fe National cemetery at 1:30 p.m. with full military honors. Hugh B. Burt, 72 of Taos passed away Sunday, April 1, 2001 at home.
He was a life member of the Taos Volunteer Fire Department and was retired from the Los Alamos and Taos school systems. He was preceded in death by his wife, Alice Burt and a daughter, Gladys Marie Burt. He is survived by his children, Marianne Anglada (Richard) of Roswell, Hugh Burt Jr. of Taos, Claudette Mora (Alan) of Albuquerque, Arthur Burt (Carmella) of Taos, Loretta Mirabal (Jim) of Albuquerque, Myna Ayala (Floyd) of Taos, Michael Burt of Albuquerque, Tanya Burt of Taos, 16 grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren. A rosary was held on April 5, 2001, at Our Lady of Guadalupe. Memorial mass was held on April 6, 2001 at Our Lady of Guadalupe. Arrangements by Taos Volunteer Fire Department.

Mary Romo Graham, 86, of Farmington, N.M., passed away on April 3, 2001. She was born in Talpa, N.M.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Maria Guadalupe Tafoya, sister, Carolina (Caro) Cortez. She is survived by her husband, Filiberto Graham, two sisters, Donelia Coca and Magarata Duran of Talpa, four daughters, Maria Elze, Juanita Robinson, Monica Sandoval, Ana Sara Armenta, three sons, Carlos Graham, Antonio Graham, and Arnold Graham all of Farmington, N.M. Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated April 6, 2001 in Farmington.

Ricardo O. Torres, 70, a resident of Moriarty, N.M., formally a long-time resident of Taos area and he lived a few years in Grand Island, Neb., passed away April 9, 2001. Ricardo was born Feb. 7, 1931, in Arroyo Seco, N.M., to Onecimo and Ana (Martinez) Torres. He was a life member of the VFW, and a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church. Ricardo married Carolina Mossman on Nov. 26, 1980. Mr. Torres will be remembered as a loving husband, father, brother, son and friend. He is survived by his wife of 20 years, Caroline M. Torres of Moriarty, N.M., three sons, Alvin and wife Gloria of Gillette, Wyo., Dennis Torres of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Ronald Torres of Gillette, Wyo., daughter, Teresa Torres of Gillette, Wyo., two step-sons, Ronald and wife Lia Romero of Burlington, N.J. and Leonard Romero of Albuquerque, N.M., four step-daughters, Linda Romero of Albuquerque, N.M. Elaine and husband Dwayne Appeal of Fort Garland, Colo., Carol and husband Roman Bojorqez of Edgewood, N.M. and Claudia and husband Jesse Ochoa of Jacksonville, N.C., five brothers, Fermin, Esequiel, Juan, Luis and Martin Torres, three sisters Mairna Archuleta, Creselda Vigil and Casilda Medina, 19 grandchildren, and three great-granchildren. Ricardo was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Primitivo and Donaciano Torres and grandson, Erl Leyba. The viewing was held April 10, 2001, at Harris-Hanlon Mortuary in Moriarty, N.M. The rosary was recited April 10, 2001 at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church in Moriarty, N.M. The Mass was celebrated April 11, 2001, at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of Mount Carmel with Father Anthony L. Martinez officiating. Following the Mass there was a second viewing at Harris-Hanlon Mortuary in Moriarty, N.M. from 2 to 6.
Burial was Friday, April 13, 2001, at 1 p.m. at Mount Carmel Catholic cemetery in Moriarty, N.M. Pallbearers were Jake Mossman, Don Fitzner, Alvin Torres, Leonard Romero, Roman Bojorqez and Jesse Medina. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the Harris-Hanlon Mortuary in Moriarty, N.M. 505-832-6130.

Richard Abel Romero, 46, of Cerro passed away on April 10, 2001. He was born on February 10, 1955, to Sofia Maria and Tony Romero. He is preceded in death by his mother, Sofia Maria Romero and his brothers, Tony Romero Jr. and Sam Romero.
He is survived by his father, Tony Romero (Margaret) and his brothers, Clifford Romero (Lorna), David Romero (Pat), Ernest Romero (Mary Anne), George Romero and his sister Annabelle Rael (Joe). He is also survived by many nephews and nieces from Alaska, Colorado and New Mexico. Rick was a deeply loved reliable and considerate member of our family. To many area residents he became a treasured friend. He touched many lives and will be missed by both family and fiends. He was involved in the community and served as a volunteer firefighter. He also became a sought after fence builder for many area ranches and landowners. An evening service was held on April 11, 2001, at Rivera Chapel. Graveside Service was held on April 12, 2001, at El Pueblito cemetery in Questa. Arrangements by Rivera-Hanlon Funeral Home.
