Edith Pauline Cozart, A resident of Tres Piedras, NM, passed away, Sunday, Sept. 27, 2004. She is survived by her son, Duke and his wife, Barbara. Grand children, Karen Marie Cozart, Douglas Cozart (Alana) of Tres Piedras, Jeremy Cozart (Sherry) of Los Alamos. Brother Charles (Sharon) of Albuquerque, Sisters, Dolly Cash (O.J.) of Los Lunas, Lora Sanchez (Clyde) of Santa Fe and Francis Miller of Tres Piedras and many nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death was: her father, John Blythe Miller, her mother, Minnie Margaret Grisham, her brothers and sisters, John W. Miller, Lewis F. Miller, George J. Miller, glen M. Miller, Frona Graves, Margaret Neal, Shirley Bohannon, Irene Coffman & Imogene Coffman.
Pallbearers will be Douglas, Karen and Jeremy Cozart, John W. Miller jr., Calvin Miller, Roger Lameroux, Buddy Graves, Allen Miller, P.J. Archuleta and the members of the Tres Piedras Fire Department.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Four Corners Animal League, P.O. box 263, Arroyo Seco, NM 87514.

JOE G. “SONNY” GARCIA, age 51, passed away Sunday, September 26, 2004.
He was preceded in death by his father Norbert V. Garcia.
Joe served in the U.S. Marines from 1971 - 1973.
He is survived by his loving children; son, Daniel J. Garcia; daughter, Cheryl L. Noonan and husband Nyles; granddaughter, Avianna Heaven Noonan; mother, Ermelinda Garcia; sisters: Cathy Overby and husband Tom, JoAnn Arndt and husband Mike, Arlene Schmitt and husband Dave, Yolanda Jean Garcia, Audrey Garcia, Yvette Atencio and husband Paul Sedillo, Yvonne Hanika and husband James and one brother, Michael S. Garcia; nineteen nephews and nieces, four great nephews and nieces, numerous uncles, aunts, cousin and friends.
Serving as pallbearers will be Ernie Trujillo, Kenny Barela, Eric Marquez, Daniel Garcia, Chris Garcia and Michael Garcia.
Honorary pallbearers will be Rafael Martinez and Joey LeDoux.
Rosary was recited September 29, 2004, at Berardinelli Family Chapel. Mass was also celebrated September 30, 2004, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. Interment followed at Santa Fe National cemetery.
Arrangements are under the direction of Berardinelli Family Funeral Service, 1399 Luisa Street, Santa Fe, NM 87505 (505) 983-4331.

Juan B. Marquez, he was born April 14, 1917 in Arroyo Seco, NM and died at his home in Bishop, CA, on Oct. 1, 2004. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, sister and son, Gabriel Aloysius Marquez. Juan was a miner and a painter at Union Carbide and retired in 1979. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and a former member of the Guadalupano Club of his Church. He had also performed with the Merry Melody Makers. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Louisa, sons and daughter-in-law, John and Marie Marquez of Richmond, CA, Carlos and Gwen Marquez of Green River, WY, daughter and son-in-law, Antonette and John Parra of Bishop, daughter, Linda Bradley of Victorville, sister and brother-in-law, Irene and Fermin Torres of Arroyo Seco, NM, grandchildren, Hugh, Anthony and Gabriel Marquez, Fran Hansen, Leona Flores and Brian Bradley, 13 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral Mass was Oct. 7. In lieu of flowers donations in Juan’s memory may be made to The CARE Center, 205 N. Fowler St. Bishop, CA 93514.

William J. Clark, 84, of Ranchos de Taos passed away on September 28, 2004. He was retired from Cessna and Boeing Aircraft of Wichita, KS. He was also a greeter at th2e Wal-Mart store in Taos. He is survived by his wife, Mary Clark and daughters, Mayetta R. Nash (Benny) of Wichita, KS and Phyllis K. Powell (Claude) of Carlsbad, NM. He is also survived by seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren
Rosary was held on October 1, 2004 at Rivera Chapel. Funeral mass and burial were held in Wichita, KS. Arrangements by Rivera-Hanlon Funeral Home.

Elizardo Sanchez, 81, of Los Cordovas passed away on November 26, 2004. He is survived by his wife, Gloria Sanchez, children, Alyce Sanchez (Flavio Medina) and Joseph Sanchez, grandchildren, Tiffany and Sean Sanchez, Marie, Bridgette and Frankie Martinez, great grandson, Brandin Martinez. He is also survived by many brothers, sisters, other relatives and friends.
Rosary was recited on November 29, 2004. Funeral mass was held on November 30, 2004. Both services were held at San Francisco de Asis Catholic Church. Interment was held at Los Cordovas cemetery. Arrangements by Rivera-Hanlon Funeral Home.

Felicita Victoria “Vickie” Sanchez Cardenas, 70, of El Prado, NM, died on Sunday, November 28, 2004 at 10:07 a.m. She was born in Clayton, NM on May 17, 1934 to Toney Sanchez and Lilia Romero Sanchez. She atteneded Thompson and Lakeview schools and graduated from Clayton High School in May 1953. She attended New Mexico Highlands University; earned a Bachelors of Arts degree in 1965 and also a Masters degree in 1976.
She taught at various Taos County schools and was a principal at Pot Creek Elementary, the current campus of Southern Methodist University, from 1955 to 1990. In 1990 she retired from teaching with twenty-seven years of dedicated service. She married Fidel Palemon Cardenas in June 1955. She is survived by her husband, Palemon, her children, Jerome, Lazaro (Ramona), Antonia, and Agnes (Patrick) Oakeley, her grandchildren; Larissa, Lazaro Jr., Victoria “Tori”, Antonio, and Lilia Mae Oakeley.
She is survived by her brothers and sisters; Martha (Gilbert) Ruiz, John Manuel Sanchez, John Antonio (Mary) Sanchez, Filbert (Lori) Sanchez and Elaine Sanchez. She is also survived by her adopted mother and aunt, since age twelve, Rachel Romero Herrera. She is also survived by her adopted daughter, Martha Oestreich, and many other relatives and friends. She was an avid musician, artist, and gardener as well as a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, and teacher.
Rosary was recited on November 30, 2004.
Funeral mass was held on December 01, 2004. Both services were held at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Burial was held at the Dolores cemetery. Billy Archuleta provided the music for the rosary and mass. Arrangements by Rivera-Hanlon Funeral Home.

Gloria Arellano, 75, of Arroyo Hondo passed away on November 28, 2004. She is preceded in death by her parents, Federico & Patrocinia Medina, stepfather, Esequias Vigil, sister, Florence Vigil, Adela Garduno, brothers, Victoriano Silva, Orlando and Eliu Vigil. She is survived by her husband, Eli Arellano, children, Fred Arellano (Jackie), Dickie Arellano, Gilbert Arellano (Pearl), Roy Arellano (Lisa), Danny Arellano (Trudy), Nadine Vigil (Ricky), Kathy Romero (Bobby), Margaret Abeyta (Rudy), Ralph Arellano (Karen), Eli Arellano (Joanne), David Arellano (Annette) and Jake Arellano (Christina). She is also survived by twenty two grandchildren, three great grandchildren, sister, Antonia Vigil and brother, Benino Vigil.
Rosary was recited on November 30, 2004. Funeral mass was held on December 01, 2004. Both services were held at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church in Arroyo Hondo. Pallbearers were Dickie Arellano, Robert and Adam Romero, Justin, Shawn, Skyler, Brandin and Joshua Arellano. Honorary pallbearers were Santiago and Arturo Arellano and Zachary Frias. Arrangements by Rivera-Hanlon Funeral Home.

Jeffrey L. Martin, 38, of Ranchos de Taos passed away on November 20, 2004. He is survived by Arnold Muniz, pets, Booboo, Gizmo, other pets, his family, Arnold, Mary, Lisa, Johnny, Bernadette, Angelo, Nicole, Juanito and Andrea.
Memorial service was held on November 24, 2004 at Rivera Chapel. Arrangements by Rivera-Hanlon Funeral Home.

Samuel “Sam” Montoya, 49, of La Mesilla and formerly of Ranchos de Taos passed away on November 24, 2004. He was a former county manager for Taos and Santa Fe. He is preceded in death by his father, Eduardo Montoya. He is survived by his mother, Viola Montoya of Ranchos de Taos, sister, Frances Duran (Joe) of Albuquerque, niece, Renee Duran and nephew, Jacob Duran of Taos, Lita and Reyes Brunello, several close family members, friends and coworkers.
Rosaries were recited on November 27, 2004 and on November 28, 2004. Funeral mass was held on November 29, 2004. All services were held at San Francisco de Asis Catholic Church. Interment was held at Jesus Nazareno cemetery. Arrangements by Rivera-Hanlon Funeral Home.

Joseph Barber, 86, born 9/21/1918, passed away Monday morning at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Santa Fe. He is survived by his wife, Kathy and his son, Michael, daughter-in-law, Joanne and granddaughter, Alex. Services pending with burial at The Veteran’s cemetery in Santa Fe.

Juanita Maria Rael, 84, of Questa passed away on December 18, 2004. She was preceded in death by her husband Honorio Rael, parents Don and Rebecca Martinez. She is survived by her children Clarence Rael, (Irene) of El Paso, TX, Berna Martinez (Ben) of Las Colonias, Marlaine Rael, Joseph Rael (Susan Naranjo), Honorio Rael, Jr (Maxine) and Don Rael (Valarie) all of Questa. She is also survived by her sisters Patsy Martinez, Lucy Rael, Maria Balerio (Raymond), Cecilia Valdez (George), brothers Larry Martinez (Tillie), Jim Martinez (Bessie), Armando Marchant (Janey) and Don Martinez (Alisia) seventeen grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, sisters-in-law Cora Rael (Alfonso), Corina Ortega, Adela Rael, Nora Galvez (Eric).
Rosary was recited on December 21, 2004. Funeral mass was held on December 22, 2004. Both services were held at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Questa. Interment was held at the San Pedro cemetery. Arrangements by Rivera-Hanlon Funeral Home.

Leonardo A. Valerio, 92, of Llano Quemado passed away on December 31, 2004. He is preceded in death by his first wife, Claudina S. Valerio, parents, Antonio and Felecita Valerio and brother, Jose Benjamin Valerio. He is survived by his wife, Emelina Valerio, children, Henry A. Valerio (Josie) of Utah, Raymundo Valerio (Diana) of Taos, Tony Valerio (Teresita) of Pennsylvania, Lalo Valerio (Teresita) of Llano Quemado, Ben Valerio (Juanita) of Arroyo Hondo and Tina Torres (Ocelio) of Llano Quemado. He is also survived by 18 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, eight stepchildren, sisters in law, Maria Valerio and Annie Romero, many other relatives and friends.
Rosary was recited on January 03, 2005. Funeral mass was held on January 04, 2005. Both services were held at San Francisco de Asis Catholic Church. Interment was held at San Francisco cemetery. Arrangements by Rivera-Hanlon Funeral Home.

Ramon Romero, 92, of Vadito, passed away on December 30, 2004. He is preceded in death by his wife, Carolina “Carrie” Romero in June 2002. He is survived by his children, Carmen Cecilia Madrid (Eddie) of Las Vegas, Erlinda Russell (Jeff) of Redlands, CA, Elaine Benavides of Albuquerque and Lucille Geri Temer (Donald) of Albuquerque. He is also survived by grandchildren, Pamela and Raymond Lopez, Rhonda M. Aldrich (Mike), Jennifer and Jacob Russell, Carol Benavides-Salazar (Greg), Gerald Benavides (Yvette), Christina Montoya (Michael), Lucinda Benavides, David Temer (Caroline), Patricia Temer-Raman (Sankar), Daniel and Matthew Temer, five great grandchildren, brother, Raymundo Romero (Annie), sister, Candie Perea (Clovis), sisters in law, Ramona Tafoya (Ernest), Angie Gurule Vergo (Jim), many nephews, nieces, relatives and friends.
Viewing and rosary will be held on Friday, January 07, 2004 at 3 PM and at 7 PM at San Antonio de Padua Catholic Church in Penasco. Funeral mass will be held on Saturday, January 08, 2005 at 10 AM at San Antonio de Padua Church with interment to follow at Vadito cemetery. Arrangements by Rivera-Hanlon Funeral Home.

Theodore "Ted" Aguilar, 71, a resident of Grants, NM, died on December 28, 2004 in Albuquerque, NM. He is survived by his wife, Lorraine M. Aguilar of Grants, NM; daughter, Karla M. Aguilar of Albuquerque, NM; brothers and sisters, Lucie Martinez and husband, J.B. of Taos, NM, Emma Lucero and husband, Abad of Albuquerque, NM, Leroy Aguilar of Taos, NM, Lillian Aguilar of Albuquerque, NM and Manuel Aguilar and wife, Isabel of Taos, NM; brother-in-laws and sister-in-laws, Danny E Montoya of Albuquerque, NM, Robert O. Montoya and wife, Teri of Bosque Farms, NM, Amos Montoya and wife, Marilyn of Albuquerque, NM, Pamela Chambers and husband, Clarence Carrillo of Albuquerque, NM, Isaac Montoya and wife, Helen of Taos, NM, David Montoya and wife, Kathy of Albuquerque, NM, Victor Montoya and wife, Lezlie of Los Lunas, NM and Benjamin Montoya of Albuquerque, NM. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Ted is preceded in death by his parents, Manuel and Roberta Aguilar. He was born & raised in Taos. After graduation from Taos High School, he served in the Army. Ted retired in 1998 from the City of Grants after 30 years of employment. He and his wife Lorraine "Lora, " the love of his life, shared 41 years together. He was a devoted and loving father to his precious daughter, Karla. He liked to travel, fish, and keep up with current events.
Prayer service was held on Thursday, December 30, 2004 at 7:00 p.m. at French Mortuary - Westside Chapel. Funeral service was held on Friday at 10:00 a.m. also at French Mortuary with Sister Norma Gutierrez, officiating. Burial will took place on Monday, January 3, 2004 at 1:00 p.m. at Santa Fe National cemetery. Friends and family may visit French Mortuary - Westside Chapel on Thursday from 4:00 p.m. until time of prayer service. French Mortuary, 9300 Golf Course Rd. Virginia Morton LaVergne died on January 2, 2005. She was born on April 10, 1926, in Matamoras, Pennsylvania, lived most of her adult life in Houston and spent the last six years a resident of Plaza de Retiro in Taos. She was married for 38 years to Amos William LaVergne, who died in 1986. She is survived by her sister Ann Quinn, of Honesdale, Pennsylvania, brother George Weatherford of Dallas, Texas, her children Patrick William LaVergne, William Donald LaVergne, and Mary Virginia Johnson, of Houston, Shirley Jean LaVergne, of Austin, and Carol Ann Neelley, of Taos, her grandchildren Keri Downing Moser, of Sewanee, Tennessee, John William LaVergne, of Austin, Clare Noel LaVergne, of Houston, and Mary Rose Neelley, of Taos, and one great grandchild, Bryce Amos Moser, of Sewanee, Tennessee.
There will be a memorial service at St. James Episcopal Church, located at 208 Camino de Santiago in Taos, at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, January 12, 2005. Family members have asked that instead of flowers memorials be directed to Mountain Home Health Hospice, PO Box 2566, Taos, NM 87571
