In Loving Memory of James Ezra Hickey, who passed away at 1:00am on Friday, March 18, from a brain tumor that was beyond science to cure. He is survived by his loving Wife, Ruth Ann Hickey on this their 28th anniversary, 3 daughters and 2 sons. Service will be March 22, at Holly Trinity Orthodox Church 231 East Cordova, Santa Fe New Mexico. 2:00 p.m. Burial and US Air Force Honor Guard. We miss you so much Jim Hickey.

Hector Bustos, 74, of Taos passed away on March 17, 2005. He is survived by his wife, Betty Jean Bustos. Funeral service was held on March 20, 2005 at Rivera Chapel. Interment was held at Las Cruces cemetery. Arrangements by Rivera-Hanlon Funeral Home.

Amada Maes, 86, of Amalia passed away on March 16, 2005. She is preceded in death by her husband, Alcario Maes, sons, Willie, Anthony and John Maes. She is survived by her children, Ruben (Debbie), Betty and Jimmy Maes. She is also survived by numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and brother, Celestino Sanchez.
Rosary will be recited on Friday, March 18, 2005 at 7 PM at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Costilla. Funeral mass will be held on Saturday, March 19, 2005 at 10 AM at Sacred Heart Church with interment to follow at Amalia cemetery. Arrangements by Rivera-Hanlon Funeral Home.

Robert Brandon, 79, of Taos died on March 13. He is survived by his wife, Doris, and daughter, Kathy (Carl) Barlow. Grandchildren, Timothy, James (deceased) Shannon, Robert and Rochelle and 9 great-grandchildren. Private military services were held at the family home and interment will take place in California.

Juan Fernandez, 73, of Arroyo Seco passed away on March 13, 2005. He is preceded in death by his parents, Emilio and Andrieta Fernandez and brother, Onorio Fernandez. He is survived by his wife, Aida Fernandez, stepchildren, Maxine Quintana (Geronimo), Rosemary Herrera (Adam), Joe Cardenas (Matilda) and Merlyn Vialpando all of Denver. He is also survived by brothers and sisters, Alice Gonzalez of Taos, Claudina Romero of Ranchos de Taos, Arturo Fernandez of Arroyo Seco, Arsenio Fernandez (Bertina) of El Prado, Roberto Fernandez of Pueblo, CO, Elizardo Fernandez (Gloria) of Farmington, Fabiola Montoya of Ranchos de Taos, Olivia Varos of Santa Fe, Gloria Bradbury (David) of Santa Fe, 10 grandchildren, numerous nephews, nieces and other relatives.
Evening service will be held on Tuesday, March 15, 2005 at 7 PM at Rivera Chapel. Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, March 16, 2005 at 10 AM at Rivera Chapel. Arrangements by Rivera-Hanlon Funeral Home.

Adelecia G. Gallegos, 88 of Taos passed away on March 12, 2005. She is preceded in death by her husband, Samuel Gallegos Sr., sons, Patrick and Gustavo Gallegos and sister, Teresita Garcia. She is survived by her children, Robert Lopez (Vickie) of Las Vegas, Samuel A. Gallegos Jr. (Ana) of Taos, Alberto M. Gallegos (Adela) of Taos, Julia Medina (Joe) of La Mesilla, Dolores Gallegos of Taos, David Gallegos of Talpa and Novella Padilla (Servio) of Mexico. She is also survived by 16 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, sisters, Dora Medina of Talpa and Mary Apodaca of Colorado Springs, CO and brother, Augustine Cordova of Pueblo, CO.
Rosary will be recited on Tuesday, March 15, 2005 at 7 PM at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Funeral mass will be held on Wednesday, March 16, 2005 at 10 AM at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church with interment to follow at Dolores cemetery. Arrangements by Rivera-Hanlon Funeral Home.

John Richard "Dick" Ellinghausen, 82, of Taos, NM passed away on March 12, 2005. He was born in Supulpa, OK and was a longtime resident of Oklahoma City, OK. He also lived in Dallas, TX before moving to Taos. Prior to his retirement Mr. Ellinghausen was an oil and gas landman for several major and independent oil companies.
He was a graduate of the University of Oklahoma and a member of Beta Theta Pi Fraternity. He was a proud veteran of WWII, participating in the European Theatre, and enjoyed sharing his memories of that time in his life with others. He was a avid history buff and after his retirement acquired a Masters in history from Southern Methodist University. He subsequently moved to Taos and did volunteer work for the SMU campus in Taos as well as the Martinez Hacienda and the Kit Carson Museum.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Teresa Myracle Ellinghausen, daughter, Catherine Ann Augstkalns, parents, Edwin A. and Jane Morrow Watson Ellinghausen. brother, Edwin A. Ellinghausen Jr. and brother in law, Jack Myracle.
He is survived by his son in law, Valdis A. Augstkalns, granddaughter, Mary Catherine Augstkalns, sister, Ann Ellinghausen Ruppert, sister in law, America Waguespack Ellinghausen, numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association. Arrangements by Rivera-Hanlon Funeral Home.

Lucy Bernal Amador, 80 of Taos passed away March 11, 2005. Born to Ruben Erwin Bernal and Ester Wertz in Ranchos de Taos, August 26, 1924. Lucy married Joe (Pepe0 Amador in Oakland, CA in 1946 and lived in the Bay Area until returning to Taos in 1984. Children are Melba C. Bustos (Orlando) of Hayward, CA, Robert Amador (Sandy) of Taos, JoAnna Amador of Taos, Joseph A. Amador (Cathy) of Taos, MaryJane Rodriguez (Paul) of San Leandro, CA and Richard Botelho (Stella) of Santa Fe. Lucy has 13 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. Lucy is survived by brother, Jacob Bernal of Albuquerque and sister, Louisa Duran of Ranchos de Taos. preceded in death by her parents, Ruben and Ester Bernal, husband, Pepe Amador, sisters, Ruby Mondragon, Mabel Read and brother, Armando Bernal.
Services were held on March 16, 2005 at Ranchos Presbyterian Church. Arrangements by Rivera-Hanlon Funeral Home.

Tricia Hurst, long time resident of Taos, died March 10, 2005. She was 78. A native of Manhattan, she was the daughter of the late Alfred Dickson Hurst of Indianapolis, Indiana and Watch Hill, Rhode Island and the late Mrs. Frances Alan Moore of New York City and Boothbay Harbor, Maine. Hurst attended the Dalton, Miss Gardner’s and Spence schools and, briefly, the Columbia School of Journalism, all in New York City.
She made her debut in that city at a dinner-party preceding the Debutante Cotillion in the 1942-43 season. During the Second World War, and still in her teens, she served as a Nurse’s Aide, a driver for the Red Cross, and worked at the Stagedoor Canteen. She was also active in the Navy League. Before she was twenty-one Hurst was a columnist and interviewer for New York newspapers and magazines and appeared on numerous early television talk shows.
Integrating her writing with public relations, she numbered among her clients Broadway, Hollywood and television personalities. In connection with her work she traveled throughout the country and abroad for Universal International and Columbia Pictures. In 1954 she married John Alan Richards, an artist and art director form Portland, Maine. They resided in New York City and, when her husband fell ill, the couple came to Taos in 1958. The lived in Llano Quemado with their two children until Mister Richards died in 1960.
In 1962 Hurst married artist Arthur Allen –Jones of Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. The couple purchased a house in Talpa and were later divorced. Over the years, Tricia Hurst wrote for newspapers and magazines throughout the country including the New York Times, Los Angeles Times, Washington Post, Chicago Sun-Times, Look, TV Guide, Hearst Magazines, USA Today and Andy Warhol’s Interview among others. In the Southwest her feature stories appeared in the magazines sections of the Albuquerque Journal, Santa Fe New Mexican, Denver Post and Arizona Republic. She was a frequent contributor to New Mexico Magazine, Southwest Art, Palm Springs Life and Nevada Magazines. Her features and interviews were published in Europe, Canada and Australia and excerpts of her writing were reprinted in the Reader’s Digest.
Noted for her humor, she had a column in the Santa Fe New Mexican for 2 years along with the whimsy she wrote for local Taos magazines and the Taos News. Much of her humor was aimed at herself. A past member of the Screen Writer’s Guild, she was also active in the New Mexico chapter of the National Federation of Press Women which she joined in 1959. She was publicity chairman of the state organization for tow years and past vice-president of the Taos chapter. In 1982 she was named Woman of Achievement by the New Mexico Press Women and in 1988 she received the first Regina Tatum Cooke award as the Taos chapter member who had done the most to promote the arts in New Mexico. Over the years she received over 94 awards for her interviews, features and columns.
She is survived by her three children, Farmington Dickson Richards Santirso residing in Spain; Hamish Peapody Richards of Taos; Agusta Alexandra Allen-Jones of Los Angeles; her son in law, Severino Santirso Fernandez of Spain; two grandchildren, Alan Borja and Lucia Raqual Santirso Richards; and two step children, Kent Jones and Wendy Desautels form British Columbia, Canada. Hurst asked that a four line autobiography poem, written by the late Spud Johnson, be printed. “One of my dreams is very old and never has been or will be told-But three of them have long been sold and ten have caught their death of cold.”

Soledad V. Graham, 91, of Taos passed away on March 10, 2005. She is preceded in death by her husband, Don Graham, daughter, Sally Graham, daughter in law, Dilia Graham, parents, Rafael and Eliza Quintana and brother, Rafael N. Vigil. She is survived by her children, Tobias Graham, Robert Graham, Leroy Graham (Geneva), Dolores Chavez (Faustin “Tino”) and Ruben Graham (Carla). She is also survived by 1 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, sister, Ursula Trujillo and many other relatives.
Rosary was recited on March 13, 2005. Funeral mass was held on March 14, 2005. Both services were held at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Interment was held at Pacheco cemetery. Arrangements are pending at Rivera-Hanlon Funeral Home.

Mark Trey Steven Curl, 48 of El Prado passed away on March 09, 2005. He was a Ski Patrolman at Taos Ski Valley and worked at the St. Bernard. He is survived by his wife, Judy Hofer, son, Marcus Hofer-Curl, mother, Sarah Curl, brothers, Rob and Mike Curl and sister, Mandy Milton.
A gathering at a later time to be announced will be held at the Taos Ski Valley. Arrangements by Rivera-Hanlon Funeral Home.

Christobal B. Zamora, 82 a resident of Belen, NM passed away on Friday, March 4, 2005. He was a member of San Clemente Catholic Church in Los Lunas and Our Lady of Purification in Dona Ana, NM. Chris was born in Lincoln, NM on October 25, 1922 to Fulgencia and Christobal Zamora. He was the eldest of twelve children. He was a graduate of Capitan High School Class of 1941. Christobal married his high school sweetheart, Dora Chavez in 1941.
He then joined the U.S. Marine Corps that same year. He fought in the South Pacific participating in six island campaigns until the end of the war in 1945. After he was discharged, he was accepted at NMSU where he obtained his BS in Range Management in 1950. Chris was one of the first Hispanic U.S. Forest Rangers and the first Hispanic Forest Supervisor assigned to the Santa Fe National Forest. He retired from the U.S. Dept. of Agriculture at the age of 55 after 24 years of outstanding service. Chris worked as a State Forester for the Capitan District where he enjoyed working in the forest of his childhood. Chris touched the lives of many people while he traveled the mountains of New Mexico working in Taos, Espanola, Albuquerque, and Santa Fe.
His greatest love was the time he spent working with the St. Vincent de Paul Society in the churches where he was a member in Santa Rosa, Ranchos de Taos, Taos, Espanola, Albuquerque, Santa Fe, and San Patricio. He was especially active while a member of Our Lady of Purification in Dona Ana, where he enjoyed assisting at daily Mass. He is preceded in death by his parents, an infant daughter, and two grandchildren.
Chris is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 64 years, Dora; his 16 loving children, Patsy, Connie, Jerry, Christine, Toby, Jacque, Marcelle, Becky, Debbie, Terri, Carmel, Lulu, Lorenzo, Lourdez, Mario, and Kino; 31 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. With the utmost respect for Chris’s wishes, cremation has taken place. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to Our Lady of Purification for a special project in memory of Chris Zamora.
A memorial Mass will be celebrated on Friday, March 11, 2005 at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Purification in Dona Ana, NM. Urn bearer will be his son Jeronimo, escorted by the rest of Chris’s sons. Romero Funeral Home, 609 N. Main St., Belen, NM.

Jason Gregory “Jay” Gray, 30, of Taos, NM died unexpectedly, March 2, 2005. He was born Sept. 13, 1974 in Nashua, the son of Janet (Chagnon) Freitas of Nashua. He lived in Taos for the last several years. Mr. Gray worked as a veterinary technician for the Animal Care Clinic for about 7 years. He loved all animals they were his passion, from cats and dogs, to skunks and alligators. Survivors include his mother, stepfather Joe, brother Jon Gray of MD, grandparents, John and Rachel Chagnon and several aunts, uncles and cousins. A memorial service will be held on March 12 at 1 p.m. at Calvary de Taos. Potluck.
