Ubertino P. Gonzales, 67, of Ranchos de Taos passed away on March 03, 2005. He is survived by his wife, Ezperanza Gonzales six children and many other relatives.
Rosary was recited on March 04, 2005 at Rivera-Chapel. Funeral mass was held on March 05, 2005 at San Francisco de Asis Catholic Church. Contributions may be made to Jaime Gonzales, P.O. Box 693, El Prado, NM 87529.

Preciliano Garcia, 90, entered into rest May 12, 2005 in La Junta, CO. He was a current resident of La Junta and long time resident of Taos. He was born in Taos on April 18, 1915 to Preciliano and Gregoria Garcia. He was a carpenter and a farmer raising horses. He is preceded in death by his parents, Preciliano & Gregoria Garcia, his wives Dolores Garcia of 40 years and Mille Garcia of 2 years, son, Leroy Cortzs, 3 brothers and 2 sisters. He is survived by his special nieces, Anna and Paula Garcia of La Junta who lovingly cared for him in his last years. He also had numerous other nieces, nephews and their families.
Rosary was recited on May 17, 2005. Funeral mass was held on May 18, 2005. Both services were held at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Interment was held at Dolores cemetery. Arrangements by Rivera-Hanlon Funeral Home.

Eliza Quinones, 59, a resident of Cerro, NM passed away on Wednesday, May 11, 2005, accompanied by her family. She was preceded in death by her mother, Agripina Montoya. She is survived by her daughter, Gidget Rael and husband, Mario; her grandchildren, Anisa Rael and Mario Rael Jr.; brothers and sisters, Ernesto Montoya (Mena), Minora Hauser (Jack), Helen Cisneros (Adelmo), Mary Paco Segura (Gilbert), Luis Montoya (Maryann), Shona Kern (Bud), Lupe Medina (Ed), Agnes Montoya, Kate Cisneros (Randy), Mike Montoya, Socorro Santos, Emily Marquez, Cecilia Gilbert, Kenny Johnson, Jose Montoya, Christina Montoya, Maryann Montoya, and also an honored sister, Mary Santistevan. She also had many loved nieces and nephews, family and friends. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service was held on May 14, 2005 at the Buen Pastor Church in Questa with Roman Cisneros serving as pallbearer and Jeannie Masters delivering the eulogy. We the Family thank each and everyone for your kindness now in out time of grief. May God Bless your home as he blessed us with our Mother, Sister, and Friend, and the beautiful memories she has left with us. Evila “Mita” Ortega, 79, of Taos died peacefully at home surrounded by her loved ones on Tuesday, May 10, 2005. Mita was employed by the Taos Schools for 47 years. She cared deeply for her grandchildren, so much that she stayed past her retirement date till the youngest went on to Junior High, she wanted to make sure they were well feed. She loved serving all the kids in the school; she would always make sure all the kids were full. She also had part time jobs cooking after school at Don Pedro’s and Roberto’s Restaurant. She was well known in Taos; she loved everyone and would call everybody “Mi Hita” and “Mi Hito.” Her hobbies were cooking for her family and friends, embroidery and crocheting. She will be missed deeply by all that knew her. She is preceded in death by her infant son, Francis, parents, Josefita & Benjamin Cardenas, sister, Simonita, brothers, Luis, Ben, Floverito and Luis and grandson, Jason. She is survived by her husband, Eduardo Ortega, daughters, Rose Garcia and Theresa Romero (Mario), seven grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews and many friends. She is also survived by sisters and brothers, Evita Quintana (Bolivar), Manuelita Pacheco (Leroy), Eloy and Henry Cardenas.
Memorial service was held on May 14, 2005 at Jehovah’s Witnesses Kingdom Hall in Taos. Interment followed at Penas Negras cemetery. Arrangements by Rivera-Hanlon Funeral Home.

Stan Nelson, was born on December 31, 1933, in Framingham, MA, and passed away March 12, 2005, in Santa Fe, NM. He is survived by his wife of 28 years, Elizabeth; his daughter, Natalie; his son, Neal and daughter in-law, Dagmar; and his daughter, Dorothy. He attended Wellesley High School and enlisted in the Air Force. He completed pilot training in 1955. He pursued his education in the Air Force with a math degree from University Nebraska, Omaha and a Masters in corporate finance from the University of Colorado. He served in Vietnam both in Ranch Hand and as Westmoreland's pilot. After more than 20 years he retired from the Air Force as a Lt. Col. and became a pilot for NASA. He learned to fly helicopters and eventually became chief of aircraft operations. He was chief pilot of the Rescue 1 helicopter for the Challenger disaster. After more than 20 years he retired from NASA and split his time between NM and FL. On a father son holiday he and Neal discovered glider flying. Stan set several state and national glider records. He was airport manger in Taos for a period of time and then worked with the NAA (National Aeronautics Association), serving as the chairman of the contest and records board. He was an official observer for many record attempts including the Helios solar powered high flyer in Hawaii and he most recently worked with Steve Fosset on his around the world trip in GlobalFlyer. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to the American Cancer Society. Requiem Eucharist was held April 2, 2005, at Episcopal Cathedral Church of St. Luke, Orlando. He was interred at Arlington National cemetery April 20, 2005.

Laura Abeyta, 53, of Chamisal died on Sunday, May 8, 2005 at home after a long battle with cancer. She is preceded in death by her parents, Jose Victor & Eloisa Cordova, sister, Rebecca Fujino and brother, Macario Cordova. She is survived by her husband of 32 years, Gilbert Paul Abeyta, son, Denny Abeyta, daughter, Sandra Abeyta and son in law, Robert, grandson, Dominic Martinez all of Chamisal and step grandson, Vicente Martinez of Espanola. She is also survived by sisters and brothers, Olivama Pacheco, Felix Cordova, Ross Cordova, Joe Cordova (Vicky), Rosana Abeyta (Juan) all of Chamisal, Linora Pacheco of Santa Fe, Maclovia Fresquez (Anselmo) of Las Vegas, NV and Dina Duran (Robert) of Talpa and many other relatives.
Rosaries were recited on May 10, 2005 at Rivera Chapel and on May 11, 2005 at San Antonio de Padua Catholic Church in Penasco. Funeral mass will be held on Thursday, May 12, 2005 at 11 AM at San Antonio de Padua with interment to follow at Chamisal Catholic cemetery. Pallbearers will be Vicente Martinez, Joshua Curry, Janice Duran, John Abeyta Jr., Chris and Mike Fujino. Honorary pallbearer will be Dominic Martinez. Arrangements by Rivera-Hanlon Funeral Home.

Jose Benjamin Roy Anglada, 68, a resident of Albuquerque, born and raised in Taos, NM, died Friday, May 6, 2005. He is survived by his wife Ramona; son Richard Clay and wife, Anna Marie; daughters, Casey DeRaad and husband, Billy, Carla Knudsen and husband, Arnie, and Melissa Anglada; grandchildren, William, Loren, Jordan, Jessica, Hannah and Dylan; dearest niece and nephew and friends, Fred and Elaine Herrera; brothers, Bonifacio Anglada and wife Celina; and Adelmo Anglada; sisters-in-law, Cidelia Montoya; Mary Alice Winter and husband, Ed; many loyal nieces and nephews and his dearest friend among many, Dick Shepardson.
He was a US Navy reservist for 30 years and retired at the rank of Captain. The Navy was his dream as a young boy so he joined the ROTC at UNM while he earned his Bachelor's degree. After graduation he enlisted in the Navy and served active duty before joining the Reserves. He retired from the Navy at age 55 and was loved and respected by both his peers and subordinates.
During his 27 years of employment for the City of Albuquerque he earned his Masters in Public Administration and worked with the Dept. of Environmental Health, Housing, and was the Manager of the Convention Center.
He was a devoted family man and the perfect example of integrity and character as seen by the way he cared for his wife, family, and friends. He was generous and kind to everyone and opened his home and life to all. His favorite things were fishing, skiing ant traveling, but especially working outside on his yard. He spent hours on projects with his faithful companion dog, Cosmo.
Roy loved to dance and was always eager to lead family wedding marches with his wife Ramona. He was an active member of his church and will truly be missed by all. Sunday, May 8, 2005, visitation and memories with family and friends was held from 4-6 p.m. with a rosary following at 6:00 p.m, French Mortuary, Wyoming Blvd. Chapel. Mass was celebrated Monday, May 9, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. at Prince of Peace Catholic Church with Father Antonio Mondragon, Celebrant. Interment followed at 2:00 p.m. at Santa Fe National cemetery, Santa Fe, New Mexico.
Pallbearers were William DeRaad, Jr. Anglada, Mark Winter, Toby Herrera, Randy Herrera, and Ted Montoya. Honorary pallbearers will be Dick Shepardson, Dick Valdez, Ben Lowe, and Luis Sisneros.

Frutosa Martinez, 82, of Arroyo Seco passed away on April 26, 2005. Mrs. Martinez worked for many years as a cook for Taos Municipal Schools. She is preceded in death by her husband, Ruben Martinez Sr., her parents, Jose Damian and Eleonor Martinez, brothers, Roberto Martinez, Max Martinez, Jose Escolastico Martinez, sisters, Maria Inez Baros and infant sister, Josefina Martinez. She is survived by her children, Ruben Martinez of Arroyo Seco, Tony Martinez (Lorraine) of Los Cordovas, Violanda Romo (Albert) of Talpa, Louise Cordova (Alex) of Costilla and sisters, Cirila Martinez, and Stephanie Rivera, 13 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.
Rosaries were recited on April 28, 2005 at Rivera Chapel and on April 29, 2005 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Arroyo Seco. Funeral mass was held on April 30, 2005 at Holy Trinity Church. Interment was held at the Arroyo Seco Catholic cemetery. Pallbearers were Matthew Martinez, Pablo Martinez, Miguel Romo, Robert Valencia, Jr., Andrew Salazar and Arturo Suazo, Jr.

Linda Murray, Taos County resident and business owner passed away on April 26, 2005 from an acute asthma attack. She is survived by her husband, Scott, sister, Brenda and brother, Michael.
Memorial service will be held on May 22, 2005 at 3 PM in the gardens of the Overland Ranch Complex in El Prado.

Benjamin Martinez, died April 22, 2005, in Livermore, CA. He was born April 22, 1918, in Ranchos de Taos, NM tot the late Selso Martinez and Loreneita Mondragon. he was the husband of Eloisa mares for 58 years, the devoted father, of Robert Martinez and Dyanna Miller, and the dearest brother of Rachel Trujillo, Benito Gutierrez, Susana Valerio, Joe E. Gutierrez, Eleanor Jaramillo and the late Jacob Martinez and many nieces and nephews. Funeral mass was held on April 27, at St. Leanders Catholic Church in San Leandro, CA, burial at Holy Sepulcher cemetery.

Ofelia C. Mondragon, 84, of Llano Quemado, passed away on April 20, 2005. She retired after 25 years as a cook for the Ranchos Elementary School. She is preceded in death by her husband, in 1993, Palemon Mondragon, parents Evaristo and Eutimia Candelario and brother Jose C. Candelario. She is survived by her children, Pat Mondragon (Molly), Jose Maria “Gia” Mondragon (Joanne), Porfie Chavez (Pedro), Delia Jordan (Jim), Larry Mondragon (Yolanda), Christine Vargas (David), Pauline Trujillo, and 17 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild. She is also survived by her brothers and sisters, Gloria Duran (Danny), Maria Valerio, Cora Garcia (Francisco), Adolfo Candelario (Alice), Rosila Gonzales (Lucario), George Candelario (Helen), and sister-in-law, Corina Candelario.
Rosaries were recited on April 21, 2005 at Rivera Chapel and on April 22, 2005 at San Francisco de Asis Catholic Church in Ranchos de Taos. Funeral mass was held on April 23, 2005 at San Francisco de Asis Church. Interment was held at the New Llano Quemado cemetery.

Jose D. “J.J.” Rendon, 79, of Arroyo Seco passed away on April 16, 2005. Mr. Rendon was a Navy veteran of WW II and retired from the Taos Ski Valley. He is preceded in death by his son, Damian Rendon. He is survived by his wife, Bertha Rendon, son, Francis Rendon, daughters, Mariane and husband, Bobby and Ramona Maestas and husband, Fred. He is also survived by grandchildren, Juan Jaramillo (Nicole), Geneive and Briana Rendon, Don Ortega, and great granddaughter Alysissa Jaramillo, brothers, Sabino Rendon (Mabel), brother in law, Lucas Cordova (Gloria), sisters in law, Beva Medina (Manuel), Nella Cordova, Rose Pacheco (Leo) and many other relatives.
Rosaries were recited on April 17, 2005 at Rivera Chapel and on April 18, 2005 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Arroyo Seco. Funeral mass was held on April 19, 2005 at Holy Trinity Church. Interment was held at Santa Fe National cemetery.
