Lydia Velasquez Lyle of Taos April 17, 1919 - July 16, 2005. preceded in death her parents, Elisa and Velemino Velasquez. Surving are the Children: Diana Lyle Hawley, Thomas Lyle and Lisa Lyle Turner. Elsie Cortez, Nora Bailone and Tillie Sauzo, her sisters, all of Taos. She was the proud grandmother of nine grandchildren and six great granddaughters. She was buried in Ottawa Ill, July 19, 2005 next to her husband Garland, and son Robert Lyle. She had a infant Freddy Lye decease during World War II. She will leave in our hearts forever.

Marian H. Miller of Longmont died July 15, 2005 at the berthhoud Living Center. She was 83. She was Born September 4, 1921 in Longmont to Edward and Aimee (Runge) Huelskemper. She graduated from Longmont High School in 1939 and attended the University of Colorado for two years.. On August 7, 1941 in Longmont she married Albert Elsworth Miller. Mrs. Miller worked for the Boulder County clerk, and then was the owner of a tobacco shop in Taos, New Mexico. Retiring in 1997. She returned to Longmont in 1997 after living in Taos, NM for 25 Years. She enjoyed gardening, sewing and knitting.
She was preceded in death by her parents, step-father Edwin Westerberg, husband, and sister Dorothy McNitt. Mrs. Miller is Survived by a son Mark A. Miller of Boulder, two daughters Gretchen K. Hofer of Longmont and Trudy S. Richmond of Moses Lake, Washington, and a brother-in- law Neal R. Miller of Longmont. A Private family memorial service will be held. Cremation at Ahlberg Funeral Chapel and Crematory. Memorial contributions to Hospice Care of Boulder and Broomfield Counties can be sent in care of Ahlberg Funeral Chapel.

Abel Lee Flores, 27, of Questa passed away on July 15, 2005. He is preceded in death by his grandfather, Eloy T. Flores. He is survived by his parents, David and Barbara Flores, brothers, David Shawn Flores all of Questa and Bradley Flores (Marie Chacon ) of Taos. He is also survived by his grandmother, Dora Montoya, many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephew and many close friends.
Memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 23, 2005 at 2 PM at the family residence at 29 Gallegos Rd., Questa, NM.

Maria Carlotta Vigil Martinez Hallum (Billie) was born in Taos, New Mexico to Emily and Diego Vigil. As a young woman in Taos, Billie roped wild burros with her friends. She married Fernando Martinez, and Olivia was born. They then moved to San Francisco where Fernando worked construction for the Federal Government. He was killed in a tragic accident, and Billie and Olivia moved back to Taos.
Billie met and married Tony Martinez, and the three of them moved to San Francisco. Tony had asthma, so they moved to Reno where Antoinette was born. Billie worked at the Nevada Club for 28 years, where she was one of the first women pit bosses in Nevada. Billie divorced Tony; and she worked hard raising her two girls by herself. When Billie died, she was still living in the house where she raised her family. She lived there over 50 years.
Billie met Dale Hallum and they were married in 1971. They were so happy together, and had a wonderful marriage for almost 30 years. After Dale died in December, 2000, Antoinette moved to Reno from Seattle to care for Billie. After her beloved Olivia died in 1999, Billie started having small strokes, which eventually ended her life. Billie died peacefully at her home where she wanted to be.
Billie was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Lloyd and Martin E. Vigil, her beloved daughter Olivia, her beloved husband Dale, and her co-madre, Estelle Bradley.
Billie is survived by her daughter Antoinette Martinez, son-in-law Alex Kanwetz, three grandchildren, Catherine, Alex II and Brett Kanwetz, five great grandchildren, Alex III, Nick and Samantha Kanwetz, and Ryder and Wyatt Haag, all of Reno except Brett and Samantha who live in Las Vegas.
She is also survived by her best friend of 45 years, Betty Hoover, Antoinette's close friend Lynne Bauer who Billie considered “one of her own”, some nieces and nephews and Dale's daughters Ann Stillman (and her family) and Jane Mick.
The family wishes to express deep gratitude to St. Mary's Hospice for their kind and loving care of Billie during her last few weeks.
A memorial service will be held for Billie on Friday, July 15, at 1 p.m., at St. Albert the Great Catholic Church, at the corner of Kings Row and Wyoming in northwest Reno. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to St. Mary's Hospice of Reno, 3605 Grant Drive, Reno, NV 89509.

Dawn Brewington Guffey Seeber, 77, was born July 15, 1927 in El Paso, TX. She died in her home in Alb. She was preceded in death by her parents, Johnny and Crystal Brewington of El Paso, TX and grandchildren, Zephyr Sand and Rebecca promise Guffey. She was one of seven children and graduated from Lorretta Academy. She is survived by her children. Dawn Gottschau and husband, Lawrence, Elizabeth (Ralphy) Guffey, Lois Reynolds and husband Eddie, and Bruce Guffey Jr. and wife Kathy. Her grandchildren, Hunter, Rose and Rachael Gottschau and Faye Brown and husband, Don, Crystal Carey and husband Varis, Stacy Sparenberg and husband, Andrew. Great-grandchildren, Zabrina Sparenberg and Robert Lee and Don Emanuel Brown III. She is also survived by her siblings, Anne, Maddox, Charlie, Johnny and Harry Brewington. She is also survived by husband, Bruce Guffey Sr. and husband, John Seeber.
She loved her family, oil painting, walking, knitting and her flower gardens. Her life motto was: Take care of yourself, be responsible for yourself, get up and walk when it hurts; love God, birds, music, laugh and let go of things you can’t change, Be Happy. Dawn’s treasurers left behind are not gold and silver but strength, independence, humility and love.
A memorial service will be held at Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish in Alb. on July 15, at 4 p.m. Arrangements are being made by Aspen Funeral Alternative. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to your local animal shelter, as mom loved animals.

Eloy Salazar, Jr., 62 of Everett, WA formerly of Taos, Canon, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, July 14, 2005. He was preceded in death by his father, Eloy Salazar, Sr. He is survived by his wife, Joyce, son Matthew (Crystal), their children Micah and Miria. Daughter Joy and her son, Gabriel. Mother, Delia Salazar, brothers Frank (Ofelia), Ben (Bonnie), Eli (Christine), Toby (Trudy). Sisters, Angie Holgerson, Polly Salazar, Eileen Greiser (Art), Patty Salazar. He was involved in music all his life. His grandchildren were his pride and joy and his main enjoyment was spending time with them. His devotion to the Lord was great. He will be truly missed.

Apolinario Paul O. Vigil, 86, of Ranchos de Taos passed away on July 14, 2005. He is preceded in death by his sons, Higino and Paul Vigil, parents, Jose Antonio Vigil and Maria Higina Vigil, sisters, Juanita Sandoval, Refufio Barela, Tomasita Mondragon and brothers, Mike and Elias Guadalupe Vigil. He is survived by his wife, Rose Vigil, children, Julia Gonzales (Frank), Leo Vigil (Patsy), Sylvia Gonzales (Alex), Millie Vigil, Lawrence Vigil (Bonnie), Peter Vigil, Maria Dimas (George), George Vigil, Manuel Vigil and Anna Vigil (Michael). He is also survived by his brother and sister, Tony Vigil (Frances), Sister Antonita Vigil, 19 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren and many other relatives.
Rosary was recited on July 14, 2005. Funeral mass was held on July 15, 2005. Both services were held at San Francisco de Asis Church. Interment was held at Santa Fe National cemetery.

Levi J. Salazar, 24, of Ranchos de Taos passed away unexpectedly on July, 14, 2005. He graduated from Taos High School in 2000. He is preceded in death by his brother, Leon Salazar and grandfathers, Pete Sisco and Juan Ramon Salazar and uncle, David Salazar. He is survived by his parents, Juan F. and Patsy Salazar, brother, Lionel Salazar (Beth), sister, Janell Sisco, grandmothers, Ray Sisco and Amalia Salazar and many favorite uncles, aunts and other relatives.
Rosary was recited on July 17, 2005. Funeral mass was held on July 18, 2005. Both services were held at San Francisco de Asis Catholic Church.

Steve Gavula, 56, of Ranchos de Taos passed away on July 13, 2005. He was a great musician, guitar player and singer. He played at the Sagebrush Inn for years with The Sagebrush Trio. He also sat in with Bill, Bonnie and Michael Hearne, Johnny Gimble, Pat Burns and many other Taos musicians. He had a incredible sense of humor and was a great teller of stories. He had gone back to college about 2 _ years ago to get his degree in elementary education. He knew the names of every peak in the Taos and Santa Fe area, and in spite of the fact that he was a polio survivor; he had climbed many of those peaks. He left behind many people who knew and loved him. He is survived by his wife, Dawn Gavula who he married in 1995, his parents, Shirley and John Gavula, brothers, John, Jim, Joe, George and Pat, sisters, Mary, Carole and Anna, all their spouses, many nieces, nephews and many other relatives. In lieu of any services, a celebration of Steve's life will be announced at a later date.

Rufino Pablo Montoya, 77, of Valdez passed away on July 12, 2005. He is preceded in death by his brothers, Cornelio and Presentacion Montoya, sister, Eleanor M. Vigil and nephew, Elias Clovis Herrera. He is survived by his sister, Teresita DeHerrera, niece, Nora Sillas (Roberto Gonzales) and family all of Valdez.
Rosary was recited on July 14, 2005. Funeral mass was held on July 15, 2005. Both services were held at San Antonio Catholic Church in Valdez. Interment was held at Valdez cemetery.

Eugene “Beau” Howard, (June 22, 1958 - July 11, 2005) golfer extraordinaire and founding member of the rock band “The Shemps" has teed up his final shot and strung his last guitar string. He was preceded in death by his sister, Marianne Collings, and father Eugene A. Howard Jr. He is survived by his mother, Jane S. Baylor, and sister, Elizabeth Howard Brandt. Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Beau Howard to Habitat for Humanity. P.O. Box 1888 Taos, NM 87571. A memorial service will be held at the Taos Country Club, Sunday July 24, 4 - 7 p.m.

Eloise Lang Rael, 82, of Taos passed away on July 8, 2005. She was a former fashion editor for St. Louis Post Dispatch. She was owner and operator of Eloise Contemporary Dress Shop. She is preceded in death by Eduardo Rael, whom she married in July, 1967. She is survived by her sister, Mary Genevieve Lang, niece, Mary K. Fischer (Geary) and great niece, Barbara Fischer.
Memorial service will be held on Thursday, July 14, 2005 at 10 AM at Nuesta Senora de Dolores Capilla in Canon. Interment will take place at the New Calvary cemetery in Farmington, Missouri.
