Loy A. Edgar, 62, died April 5, 2006 in Santa Fe. Loy is preceded in death by his mother, Elizabeth Ortega, as well as his Grandparents Agapito and Grabielita Vásquez. Loy was a Professional carpet installer, working the last 15 years in and around Santa Fe. He is survived by his sisters, Dora Domínguez and husband J.J. Jr., of Chamisal, Gloria Córdova and husband Demosten of Colorado, Lorraine Butts and husband Charles of Missouri, and Frances Chrisco of Phoenix, Arizona, his Aunts Theresa Córdova of Colorado, and Mary D. Cordova of Utah, as well as numerous cousins, nephews, nieces, other relatives and many friends. Angelina "Angie" Albinita Montoya, 72, a resident of Albuquerque, and a longtime resident of Questa and Taos, NM, died on Sunday, April 2, 2006. She is survived by sons, Ernesto Gutiérrez and Richard Gutiérrez both of Albuquerque; daughters, Melinda Gutiérrez of San Bernardino, CA and Beatrice Herrera and husband, Juan J. of Albuquerque; grandchildren, Christina Holguín, Priscilla Gutierrez, Louis Holguín, Louie Baca, Anthony Baca, Jazmine Herrera, Anthony and Jerricka Gutierrez; one greatgrandchild, Elijah King; three sisters, Erma Arellano, Annabelle Archuleta and Romaine Zamora; three brothers, Dennis Ortega, Tomás Ortega, and Elizardo Ortega. Angie was preceded in death by her husband, Mel E. Montoya; and brothers, Roy Ortega and Eladio Ortega. Angie was a vibrant lady, full of love and laughter. She enjoyed bowling, Laker basketball, and was especially fond of playing bingo. We will always remember her kindness and love for her entire family.
Services will be held on Thursday, April 6, 2006 10:00 a.m., at French Mortuary, University Blvd. Chapel. Entombment will follow at Mt. Calvary cemetery Chapel. Eddie Argüello, 55, of Amalia passed away on March 29, 2006. He was a foreman at the Melby Ranch. He is preceded in death by his father José Evaristo Argüello, by his brothers, Rudy and Baldamar Argüello, an infant sister and a grandson, Mario Santiago Baca. He is survived by his children, Christy S. Baca (Mario) of Questa, Manuel Argüello of Amalia, Melissa Argüello (Chris Romero) of Albuquerque, Billie Jo Arguello of Questa, William Arguello of Amalia and Michael Alires (Ann Callahan) of Philadelphia, PA, his mother, Timia Arguello, his brothers and sisters, Jose E. Arguello, Jr (Francis), Bessie Sanders (Roland), Cora Williams (Bob), Edna Durán, Rugie Tafoya (Joe), David Argüello (Billie) and Charlie Argüello (Sue) and 9 grandchildren.
The rosary was recited on April 03, 2006 at the Sacred Heart Church in Costilla. Funeral Mass was held on April 04, 2006 at the Sacred Heart Church in Costilla. Interment followed at the Amalia cemetery. Arrangements by Rivera-Hanlon Funeral Home.

Teddie Romero, 71 of Taos. Born Theodora Abeyta to Ambrosio and Dolores on November 27, 1934 in Los Córdovas passed away on March 27th in Albuquerque from a heart attack. Although Teddie moved back to Taos 21 years ago, her heart belonged to the mountains of Colorado where she raised her family. Teddie was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 43 years, Tony A. Romero, her sisters Domitilla Ortiz and Matilda Gómez, her brothers Elías and Antonio Abeyta, her sistersinlaw, Pricilla Abeyta & Ursula Montoya and brothers inlaw Joe Montoya and Fred Trujillo. She was beloved mother to Anthony Romero of Taos, Thomas Romero of Delta CO, Brenda (Gary) Granger stationed in Darmstadt Germany and Carla Romero of Taos. Her precious grandchildren also survive her: Victor, Felicia, and Isaac Esquibel, Marissa and Tomás Romero, and Kaitlyn & Madison Granger.
Teddie was sister to Juan (Roselia) Abeyta, Eloisa Vigil Rose Vigil and Luisa Gantz, special niece Irene Valerio, she is also survived by Tony’s sisters who Teddie considered her own. Frances (Placido) Sánchez, Angel Trujillo, Dolores ( Felipe) Martínez, Pauline (John) Wilson, and Tommie (Michael) Garcia, and many friends and family. We will have her in our hearts forever.

Juanita D. Montoya, 94, of Los Cordovas passed away on March 25, 2006. She is preceded in death by her husband, Tito Montoya and daughter, Patsy Dazhan. She is survived by her children, Gloria Sánchez, Geraldine Gutiérrez (Tony), Darlene Gutiérrez (Arturo Casias), grandchildren she raised, Alyce Sánchez (Flavio) and Joseph Sánchez. She is also survived by five grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren and six great great grandchildren. Rosary was recited on March 29, 2006. Funeral mass was held on March 30, 2006. Both services were held at San Francisco de Asís Catholic Church. Interment was held at Los Cordovas cemetery. Arrangements by Rivera- Hanlon Funeral Home.

Joe Ben Griego, 88, a lifelong resident of Talpa passed away on Friday, March 24, 2006. He was preceded in death by his parents and 9 brothers and sisters. He is survived by his wife, Felicitas Griego, children, Ruby Martínez (Edward), Porfie Emsweller (Craig), Patricia Vásquez (late, Joe), Dorothy Sandoval (Roman), Joe Ben Griego, Jr., Pamela Maestas (Freddie), 34 grandchildren, 34 greatgrandchildren, sister, Manuelita Mondragón, granddaughter raised by him, Edwina Barela and numerous other relatives and friends. Rosary was recited on March 27, 2006 at the Talpa Catholic Church. Funeral Mass was held on March 28, 2006 at the Talpa Catholic Church. Arrangements by RiveraHanlon Funeral Home.

Patrocina T. Domínguez- García, January 22, 1957 to March 23, 2006. Survived by husband Ross D. Domínguez; daughter Denise; daughter of Odelia García and the late Felimon García; sister to Veronica García, Gloria Sandoval, Arturo "Chude" García, Robert (Christine) García, Maxine (James) Harris, Jeanette García, Arsenio "Archie" García, Melvin (Darlene) García, Julie (Billy) Segura, Joseph (Lisa) García and a host of numerous nieces and nephews. preceded in death by brother Steve and his surviving wife Bernadette García. Fred E. Salazar, 66, of Pilar passed away on March 21, 2006. He is preceded in death by his parents José Bernabé & Cassandra Salazar, brothers, Alex & José B. Salazar Jr., sister, Rafaelita Schultze. He is survived by his wife, Dora Salazar, children, Pedro Salazar (Diana), Randy Salazar (Lisa), Laverne Salazar (Peter), Kristella Salazar (Joey) and Freida Salazar (Eddie), 13 grandchildren, 1 great grandson, numerous other relatives and friends. Paul A. Sánchez, 49, of El Prado passed away on March 20, 2006. He is survived by his mother, Juanita M. Sánchez, brothers and sisters, Priscilla Dominguez (Edwin) of Albuquerque, Donald C. Sánchez (Theresa) of Taos and Nefe L. Sanchez of Taos, numerous uncles, aunts, nieces, cousins and other relatives. Rosary was recited on March 22, 2006 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church. Flora Romero, 71, of Llano Quemado passed away on March 18, 2006. She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Olmedo Romero, daughter, Lily Fernandez (Paul) of Rock Springs, Wyoming, brothers, Dan Mondragon of Idaho and Edward Mondragon (Renee) of Denver, CO. She is also survived by grandchildren, Paul Fernández Jr., Bryon Fernández and Amanda Fernández Liptak (Scott), great grandchildren, Devon, Breanne and Addyson Fernández and Kaitlyn Liptak. Rosary was recited on March 22, 2006 at San Francisco de Ass Catholic Church. Funeral mass will be held on Thursday, March 23, 2006 at 10 AM at San Francisco de Asís Church with interment to follow at New Llano Quemado cemetery. Arrangements by Rivera- Hanlon Funeral Home.

Benito Frésquez, 85, of Taos passed away on March 17, 2006, born in the village of Chamisal, NM. His birth parents were Angelica & David Frésquez, stepmother, Eloida Frésquez all of whom preceded him in death as did infant brothers and then brothers, David E. and Joe Frésquez. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Iris. They met in Tuba City, Arizona where both were teachers on the Navajo (Dine) Reservation. His teaching career, especially math, extended to Chimayó, Penasco and retirement in Taos. He was remembered for his ambidexterity, sometimes writing with one hand and then switching to his left hand. Benito was an extremely private and quiet person but whose sense of humor would emerge unexpectedly to everyone's delight.
His surviving family include brothers and sisters, Ruben Frésquez (Claudina), Esther Ortega (Gilbert), Elifas Frésquez (Beatrice), Sadie Davis (James), Marietta Barton (Roy), Rosalina Eichwald (Aaron), Roy Fresquez (Margie) and William Frésquez (June), sister in law, Ramona Frésquez plus many other relatives and close friends. He was an avid gardener, furniture and toymaker and animal lover. His particular charity was Menaul School, 301 Menaul Blvd. NE, Albuquerque, NM 87107 or any other charity of choice. A memorial service will be announced at a later date to be followed by burial at the Santa Fe National cemetery. He served in WWII in the Army Air Corps 1942-1946. Katie G. Martínez, 89, of El Prado passed away on March 16, 2006 in Questa. She worked for many years as a nurse's aid with the State of New Mexico Senior Care. She is preceded in death by daughter, Juanita Martínez, son, Fernando Martínez and grandson, Arnie Cisneros, Sr. She is survived by her children, Sofia Cisneros (Cornelio, Jr.) of Questa and Tony Martínez of Taos, soninlaw Rmulo Martínez of Questa, sister, Marlou Herrera (John) of Albuquerque, brother, Eddie Cisneros (Lisa) of Orange, CA, sister, Merlin Santistevan, brotherinlaw Menard Martínez (Betty), 15 grand children, 22 great grand children and 1 great grand child. Rosaries were recited on March 18, 2006 at Rivera Chapel and March 19, 2006 at Our Lady of Guadalupe.
Funeral mass was held on March 20, 2006 at Our Lady of Guadalupe. Interment was held at Dolores cemetery. Arrangements by RiveraHanlon Funeral Home.

Nila Vigil, 91, of Cerro passed away on March 15, 2006. Rosary was recited on March 16, 2006. Funeral mass was held on March 17, 2006. Both services were held at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church in Cerro. Interment was held at Cerro cemetery. Arrangements by RiveraHanlon Funeral Home.

Cordilia R. Aguilar, 82, a lifelong resident of Peñasco, passed away on Wednesday, March 15, 2006, following a lengthy battle with cancer. She was preceded in death by her parents, former Taos County Commissioner Amador Romero and wife Leonardita; brothers Rev. Porfirio Romero, Nelson Romero, Miguel Romero, Celestino Romero; and grandson, Jerome Aguilar. Cordilia is survived by her husband of 55 years, Abenancio Aguilar of Peñasco; sister, Candelaria Aguilar, El Valle, brother, Samuel Martínez, Albuquerque; children, Wilfredo and wife Gaylen, Peñasco, Eduardo and wife Dolores, Ojo Caliente, Louella and husband Antonio Gurulé, Los Lunas, Dolores and husband Ned Martínez, Peñasco, Andy, Albuquerque, and Daniel and wife Amie, El Prado. Grandchildren, Lorrie, Marylou Cordelia, Jabé, Antonia, Cassie, Natalia, Rubel, Ned, Nicole, Daniel Esteban, Ariana, and greatgrandson Isaiah.
She will also be missed by her extended family, on the Romero and Aguilar side of the family who considered her their second mom and favorite tía. A member of the Emmanuel Presbyterian Church of Peñasco, Cordelia was born in the tiny mountain village of El Valle on the Rio Las Trampas.
She followed her brothers and sisters to the Presbyterian mission schools of Allison James in Santa Fe and Menaul in Albuquerque via the Chili Line railroad in Embudo. She attended classes at UNM and eventually earned a BA in education from Highlands University. Cordelia taught for 33 years throughout small rural schools in Taos County. She concluded her teaching career in the Penasco Independent School system where she taught Home Economics at the High School and Title I reading classes. Her passion in her life was homemaking and doting over her grandchildren as well as caring for her hummingbirds and flowers.
A memorial service will be conducted on Saturday, March 18, at 2:00 p.m. at the Emmanuel Presbyterian Church in Peñasco. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations in Cordelia's name be made to Menaul School in Albuquerque, NM. Juliana “Julia” M. Gonzales, 92, of Des Montes passed away on March 14, 2006. She is preceded in death by her infant son, Juan Gonzales Jr., parents, Juan B. & Maria Eulogia Martínez, brothers, Vidal and Ismael Martínez and sister, Evilia Martínez. She is survived by her husband, Juan A. Gonzales, children, Priscilla Martínez (Gilbert) of Arroyo Seco, Connie DeVargas (Pete) of Santa Fe, Bernice Cordova (Fernando) of Taos and Mary Ellen Trujillo (Richard Avina) of Pueblo, CO. She is also survived by 12 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren. Pallbearers were her grandsons, Gary Martínez, Lloyd Martínez, Edward Cordova, Lawrence Cordova, Richard Cordova, Philip DeVargas, Adrian DeVargas. Eulogy was also given by Ernest Ortega.
Rosary was recited on March 16, 2006. Funeral mass was held on March 17, 2006. Both services were held at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Arroyo Seco. Interment was held at Santa Fe National cemetery. Arrangements by Rivera-Hanlon Funeral Home.

Laura Ranae Vigesaa, 27, of Fargo, North Dakota, died Monday, March 13, 2006, at Poudre Valley Hospital, Fort Collins, CO, while on her way back to Taos. Laura, daughter of Harold and Sylvia (Hexom) Vigesaa, was born April 21, 1978, in Fargo, North Dakota. She grew up in Moorhead, Minnesota and moved to Taos, New Mexico in 1998. She returned to Fargo in 2002 and was attending North Dakota State University in Fargo, majoring in Mathematics. Laura was fun and free spirited, a very talented musician and a dearly loved friend and "sister" to many here in Taos. No matter where she went, Laura left an imprint on whomever she touched.
Laura is survived by her mother, Sylvia and two brothers, Torrey Vigesaa; and Martin (Shelley) Vigesaa, all of Moorhead, MN; Eugene and Ruth Hexom, Williston, ND. She was preceded in death by her father, Harold, who died in 1996; and her grandparents, Elsie and Trygve Vigesaa. Funeral Service was held Monday, March 20, 2006, at 11 AM, at Triumph Lutheran Church, Moorhead, MN Prayer Service: Sunday, March 19, 2006, at 7 PM, at the church. Tito M. Velásquez, 71, of Questa passed away on March 12, 2006. He retired as a miner from Moly Corp. He is preceded in death by his parents, Miguel & Cristina Velásquez, brothers, Erlindo and Joe Velásquez. He is survived by his wife, Oclides Velásquez, sons, Kenneth Velásquez of Albuquerque and Lawrence Velásquez of Questa. He is also survived by his sister, Isabel Trujillo of Questa and his carnal, Charlie Velásquez (Patsy) of Colorado Springs, CO, grandchildren, Julia, Kenny and Jon Michael Velásquez. Alfonso “Al” Ortiz, 69, passed away on March 11, 2006. preceded in death by his father Medardo Ortiz, and mother, Virginia Solís Ortiz. He is survived by his wife, Margaret Ortiz of Beeville, TX, children, Alfonso Ortiz (Mary) of Houston, TX, Gary Ortiz (Patsy) of Beeville, TX, Rebecca Ortiz of Houston, TX, Jamie Ortiz (Amy) of Baton Rouge, LA, Gabriel Ortiz of Beeville, TX, two stepchildren, Vince Nava (Julie) of Denver, CO, Roberta Nava of Ft. Worth, TX, brother, Medardo Ortiz, (Terry) of El Paso, TX, 13 grandchildren and two greatgrandchildren. Memorial service was held on March 14, 2006 at The Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witness in Beeville, TX.

Lorenzo A. Maestas, 64, of Ranchos de Taos passed away on March 10, 2006. He is preceded in death by his son, Lorenzo Maestas, Jr and parents, Abedón and Damiana Maestas. He is survived by his daughters, Cathy Romero (Leonard) and Lori Ann Maestas all of Ranchos de Taos, sisters, Becky Cortez and Frances Mondragon (Leo), grandchildren, Melinda Montoya, Valorie Bermúdez and Andrew “A.J.” Lampman and great grandchildren, Isaiah, Marisol and Javier Montoya and Kayla Bermúdez. Denison Walton Tafoya, 36, of Ranchos de Taos passed away unexpectedly on March 9, 2006. She received her Bachelor of Arts Degree at Carroll College in Waukesha, Wisconsin and also received further education at American University and a Masters of Arts Degree in Media Studies in New York. She was a disc jockey for radio stations in New Orleans, Washington State, Colorado and Taos. She is preceded in death by her father, Anthony Smrstick and stepfather, Bernie Flath. She is survived by her husband Gil John Tafoya, mother, Paulene Walton-Flath, parents in law, Gil & Brenda Tafoya, sisters and brother in laws, Dina Sowers (Darwin), Marcos Tafoya (Vanessa), Monika García (Diego), nieces and nephew, Shawnee and Randi Sowers, Sarae García and Santiago Tafoya, grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins. María de La Paz Madrid, 96, of Arroyo Seco passed away on March 8, 2006. She is preceded in death by her husband, José Ambrosio Madrid, son, Leo Madrid and daughter, Eloisa García. She is survived by her children, Roselia Martínez (Ruben) of Pueblo, CO, Elvira García (Fidel) of Arroyo Seco, Olivia Rendón (George) of Montrose, CO, Frank Madrid (Mary) of Arroyo Seco, Berlinda Madrid (Uvaldo Olonia) of Taos, 33 grandchildren, 57 great grandchildren, 25 great great grandchildren and many other relatives. Rosaries was recited on March 11, 2006 and March 12, 2006 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Arroyo Seco. Funeral mass was held on March 13, 2006 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church with interment to follow at Arroyo Seco cemetery. Arrangements by Rivera- Hanlon Funeral Home.

Cornelia E. (Connie) Parkinson passed away on March 8, 2006 at her sister’s home in Taos, NM. She was diagnosed with brain cancer on December 5, 2005 in Albany, NY. She is survived by her sister, Eileen Tomlinson of Taos, by two nephews, Jay McSweeney and Ron Tomlinson, and three nieces, Susan McSweeney Reed, Elyse Tomlinson Lorei and Cathleen Tomlinson. She was preceded in death by her parents William F. and Mary Norris McSweeney and by her two brothers, W. Norris McSweeney, and William F. McSweeney Jr. Connie and her late husband Robert B. (Parky) Parkinson moved to Albany from Boston in 1951. For 35 years Connie worked for the State of New York, retiring in 1985 from the Office of the Court Administration, as Senior Management Analyst. Connie belonged to the Western Turnpike Golf Course, bowled for years in a bowling league and attended St. Thomas Catholic Church in Delmar, NY. The family is grateful for Mountain Home Health Hospice and the caring women who tended to Connie's needs over these months. Any donations should be made to Mountain Home Health Hospice of Taos NM. Memorial Mass will be on March 16, 2006 at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church in Taos
