Rubén Gomez, 83, of Ludington, Mich. passed away March 7th, in Denver Co. He was born October 13, 1922 in Questa, New Mexico to Eligio and Sophia Gómez. He grew up in Cerro, attended school in Costilla, and graduated from Menaul High School in Alb, NM He was a very accomplished educator and through out his life received many awards and recogizions. Ruben authored and published: The Life and Times of Rubén Gómez, Rita Zavala, and Anna Fisher, & Through the Halls of Time With the Gonzales Family of NM. Rubén is preceded in death by his parents Eligio and Sofia Gómez, siblings Ernestina Borneman, Emma Gómez, Juan Gómez, María Gómez, first wife Rita Gómez. He is survived by his wife, Anna, daughter Dora Saigon, son Dan Gómez, both of Ludington, stepdaughters Darlene Scollon, Tina ThatcherBurks, and Marie Burks of Denver, Co. stepson Donald Thatcher, grandchildren, and great granddaughters. He is also survived by a sister Rosita Crumpton, Joe Sandoval, nieces and nephews and numerous cousins in Cerro and Questa. Services for Rubén were held March 11, 2006 in Denver. Services and internment will be held at March 17, 2006 in Ludington Michigan.

Kathaleen Previti, 70, of Llano Quemado passed away on March 2, 2006. She was the former owner of Tea & Coffee Shop. She is survived by her children, Terry Previti of Taos, Kelly Previti of Albuquerque, Patrick Previti of Albuquerque and Donna Rose Previti of Taos, grandchildren, Phoebe Anne Moore and Ian Lucier, nieces, Erin Ruscetti, Megan and Morgan Chavez. Mass will be held on Friday, March 10, 2006 at 10 AM at San Francisco de Asis in Ranchos de Taos. Arrangements by Rivera-Hanlon Funeral Home.

Charles F. Miller, has gone home from Bruce McCandless Colorado State Veterans Nursing Home Feb. 24, 2006. His parents were Robert C. Miller and Grace (Collins) Miller. He attended San José High School and was in the U.S. Navy for 30 years, serving on submarines, troop ship and submarine rescue vessels as a deep sea diver. He retired in 1970. He worked as a a resort manager in Mississippi and Colorado and at a motel and campground in Taos. He retired in Florence in 1991. He is survived by his wife, Ruth (Graves) Bell Miller who he married on March 18, 1946.
Also surviving him son, Todd R. Bell of Deer Mountain, daughter, Reanna (Forrest) Kane of Florence, son, Clifton (Isabelle) Miller of Malta, six grandchildren and three greatgrandchildren. His ashes will be scattered in the ocean. Memorial donations may be made to Manna House, 102 Maple, Florence, CO 81226; Frontier Hospice 503 N. Main St. Suite 103 W, Pueblo, CO 81003.

Mary Ann Connelly, 79, of Taos, passed away Saturday April 15, 2006. She is preceded in death by her husband of fiftyone years, Bernard James Anthony Connelly, originally of Penn, Pennsylvania. She was the daughter of the late Fred and Ruth Barnette. She is survived by her daughters Cathy Ann and Kay Ann, her soninlaw David, and her grandchildren J.B. and Margaret, all of Taos. Born May 18, 1926 in Topeka, Kansas she lived most of her adult life prior to marriage in Colorado Springs, Colorado, and attended the Colorado School of Fine Art. Mrs. Connelly ultimately resided in Southern California for fortyplus years and was active in many civic and social organizations including Beta Sigma Phi, the PTA, Daughters of the American Revolution, and Girl Scouts.
While in Taos she helped form a chapter of the Red Hat Society, and was involved with the local American Association of University Women (AAUW) chapter. Mrs. Connelly was an accomplished swing dancer and visual artist, ultimately showing her paintings as part of the prestigious Laguna Beach Arts Festival. Always busy, she was also a great gardener, avid reader, pursuer of continual spiritual evolution, lover of the outdoors particularly New Mexico's and Colorado's mountains, and an insatiable traveler. Mrs. Connelly was a wonderful and much loved wife, daughter, mother, grandmother and friend who organized us all and kept us on track. She will be much missed, but will live daily in our hearts. She was an example for all of us as to how to conduct ourselves in life and maximize our happiness and that of others. Memorial service was held on April 18, 2006 at Rivera Chapel.

Norbert Vigil, 64, of Arroyo Hondo passed away on April 13, 2006. He is preceded in death by parents, José Dolores and Macedonia Vigil, grandson, Vicente Vigil, brothers, Alejandro and Filadelfio Vigil. He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Mary Vigil, children, Norberta Vigil, Paul Vigil (Tina), Miriam Vigil, FloraLea Trujillo, brothers, Pacomio Vigil (Rita), Steve Vigil (Lorena), Ben Vigil (María), José Dolores Vigil (Veronica), sisters, Juana Jaramillo (Paul), Maximiana Vigil, grandchildren, Katrina Madrid, Fabián Varos, Andres Vigil, Jacob, JamieLee, Krystal and James Gonzales and great grandchildren. Ayesha and Gary Flores Jr. Rosary was recited on April 17, 2006. Funeral mass was held on April 18, 2006. Both services were held at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church in Arroyo Hondo. Interment was held at upper Arroyo Hondo cemetery. Arrangements by Rivera-Hanlon Funeral Home.

Clodoveo Rivera, 96, of Taos passed away on April 12, 2006. He worked in mines through out the Southwest. He is preceded in death by his sisters, Criselda Archuletta, Tila Terry and Clorinda Rivera, his brothers, Salvador Rivera, Frank Rivera, Daniel Rivera and grandson, Stifka Rivera. He is survived by his wife, Marie Rivera, children, Patrick Rivera from Costilla, Robert Rivera from Taos, Steven Rivera (Berlinda) from Amalia, Richard Henry Rivera (Pauline) from Denver, CO, David Rivera from Taos, Ted Trujillo from Red River, Raymond Varela (Christina) from Stockton, CA, Carla Gonzales (Gary) from Taos and Louise Graves (Tony) from Taos, sisters, Orvila Córdova (Amado) from Colorado Springs, CO and Juanita Leyba from Tucson, Arizona, brother Joe Rivera (Louise) from Chicago, IL, 26 grandchildren and 13 greatgrandchildren.
Evening service was held on April 14, 2006 at the Seventh Day Adventist Church. Funeral service was held on April 15, 2006 at the Seventh Day Adventist Church. Interment followed at the Rivera Family cemetery. Arrangements by Rivera-Hanlon Funeral Home.

Juan Arturo Fernández, 68 of Salt Lake City, formerly of Talpa passed away on April 11, 2006. He is preceded in death by his mother Aurora Medina Fernández and his father Juan Fernández. He is survived by his wife Reyes Lucero Fernández. Brothers Eliseo and Herman (wife Magdalena) Fernández, sister Polita (husband Larry) Helton. Funeral services will be held in Salt Lake City.

Joyce E. Collins, 84, of Taos passed away on April 10, 2006. She had a Master in Fine Art and was President of Wyoming Artist Association and has a painting of the paint pods of Yellowstone National Park displayed at the Wyoming Senator's Office in Washington. She taught art at Goshen County Community College and Eastern Wyoming College and she was cofounder of God in the Arts Foundation in Taos. She was She is preceded in death by her husband, Robert Charles Collins. She is survived by her daughter, Jill L. Collins Childs of Albuquerque, sons, Charles Robert Collins of Taos and Peter Ralph Collins (Cynthia) of Castle Rock, CO and sister, Jane Flaherty (Richard) of Park Rapid, Minnesota. She is also survived by grandchildren, James Norman Childs (Andrea), Sarah Morning Sun Bison (Charging Bear), Jessica Mariah Zoltek (Michael), great grandchildren, Lauren Elaina Childs, James Colin Childs and Abigail Marie Childs. Memorial contributions in Joyce's name may be made to American Foundation for the Blind, Attn: Maureen Fox, Associate Director, 11 Penn Plaza, Suite 300, New York, NY 10001. Liana Arellano, 38, of Chamisal passed away on April 09, 2006. She is preceded in death by her father, Ernestino Arellano, brothers, Daniel and Marvin Arellano. She is survived by her daughters, Cheryl N. and Krystal P. Vigil, mother, Frances Arellano, brother, Benito Arellano, sisters, Della Harris, Tina Millner, Perla Clifton, Eva Trujillo and Margaret Gunter and many other relatives. Funeral service was held on April 15, 2006 at 11 AM at Peñasco Presbyterian Church. Interment was held Chamisal cemetery. Arrangements by Rivera-Hanlon Funeral Home.

Perfecta M. Chiotis, 82, of Ranchos de Taos passed away on April 30, 2006. She is preceded in death by her sister, Carmen Romero, brother, Raymond Gallegos and brother in law, Arcenio Romo. She is survived by her husband, Chris Chiotis, daughter, Angela Sellers (Leonard), grandsons, Jeremy and Joshua Sellers. She is also survived by sisters and brother, Bennie and Vangie Gallegos both of Colorado, Casimiro Gallegos (Ruth) of Ranchos de Taos, many nephews, nieces and other relatives. Rosary was recited on May 02, 2006. Funeral mass was held on May 03, 2006. Both services were held at San Francisco de Asís Catholic Church. Interment was held at Jesus Nazareno cemetery. Matthew John Santistevan, 46, of Woodland, California and formerly of Taos passed away on April 29, 2006. He is preceded in death by his parents, Susan and David E. Santistevan and father in law, Jay Chapyak. He is survived by his wife, Rebecca Santistevan, children, Samuel and Caitlyn Santistevan. He is also survived by brothers and sisters, Mark David Santistevan (Margarita) of La Mirada, CA, Martin Santistevan (Joelyn) of Ranchos de Taos, Marietta Fambro (Jim) of Taos, Joseph Santistevan of Taos, David A. Santistevan of Albuquerque, Marisol Maestas of Taos, mother in law, Katie Chapyak of Los Alamos, sister in law, Debbie Chapyak of Woodland, CA, grandmother, Eva M. Cortés, numerous uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, friends and other relatives. Rosary was recited on May 3, 2006 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Funeral mass will be held on Thursday, May 4, 2006 at 10 AM at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church with interment to follow at Las Cruces cemetery. Arrangements by Rivera- Hanlon Funeral Home.

Margaret Lynn Allen, 59, of Taos Living Center passed away on April 27, 2006. She is preceded in death by her mother, Mary Ann Monical. She is survived by her husband, Jim R. Allen of Taos, father, Harold Monical of Alton, Illinois, sisters and brothers, Carole Ann (Don) of Florissant, Missouri, Kathy Manns (Gib) of Dorsey, Illinois, Jeannie Cowan (Bill) of Alton, Illinois and Rick Monical (Sue) of Godfrey, Illinois. Elfido Vigil, of Questa passed away on April 26, 2006. He was a lifetime rancher and farmer. He was an Army veteran of WWII in the European Theater. He is preceded in death by his wife, Delia Vigil, daughter, Rosemarie Vigil, parents, Placido & Aurelia Vigil, brothers and sister, Placido Vigil Jr., Maximiana García, Eloy Vigil and Jose Inez Vigil. He is survived by his son, Adelmo Vigil (Soledad) of Alamogordo, grandsons, Adrian Vigil (Hidi) and Gabriel Vigil. He is also survived by great grandchildren, Marcos A., Domnik A. and Monique D. Vigil, sister, Elva Sánchez, brother, Arsenio Vigil and many other relatives. Evening service was held on April 28, 2006. Funeral service was held on April 29, 2006. Both services were held at Rivera Chapel. Interment was held at El Pueblito cemetery. Arrangements by Rivera- Hanlon Funeral Home.

Antonia (Toni) Hurtado, 79, went home to be with our Lord on April 20, 2006. Loving wife of 64 years to Alfred Hurtado. preceded in death by parents, José Guadalupe Padilla and Frances Padilla, grandson, Richard Baca Jr and foster son, Bobby Joe Martínez. Sister of Carmen Crespín. Mother of Frances (Edward) Goldstein, Jennie (JR) Mandonado, Patsy Hurtado, and Leroy (Naomi) Hurtado. Grandmother of Dennis (Tracey) Valerio, Gary (Mandy) Valerio, Christine (Paul) Ramey, James Mandonado, Alfred (Christine) Baca, Steven (Denese) Baca, Thomas Hurtado, Andrew Hurtado. Greatgrandmother of 19. GreatGreatGrandmother of 6, Rosary and Funeral Mass were held at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 7595 Federal Blvd. Westminster.

Adelina Medina, 92, of Ranchos de Taos passed away on April 20, 2006. She is preceded in death by her husband, Juan Manuel Medina, son, Dionicio Gallegos, daughters, Elsie Shields, Mercy and Orlinda Medina and grandson, Miguel López. She is survived by her children, José A. Gallegos (Loyola) of Peñasco, Helen Medina (Cornelio) of Leadville, CO, Zenovio Medina (María) of Ranchos de Taos, Joe C. “Jackie” Medina (Helen) of Roswell, María López of Taos, Howard Medina of Ranchos de Taos, Juan Manuel Medina Jr. (Darlene) of Gypsum, CO. and Abraham Medina (Nancy) of Dixon. She is also survived by 32 grandchildren, many great grandchildren and many other relatives.
Rosary was recited Friday, April 21, 2006 at San Francisco de Asís in Ranchos de Taos. Mass was held on April 22, 2006 at San Francisco de Asís. Interment followed at Santa Barbara cemetery in Peñasco. Arrangements by Rivera-Hanlon Funeral Home.

George Lucero, 78, of Chamisal passed away on April 20, 2006. He retired from Hawthorne Naval Ammunitions Depot and came to Chamisal and eventually opened Lucero's Grocery Store. He is preceded in death by his sister, Isabel Lucero and brother, Oramito Lucero. He is survived by his wife, Lillian Lucero, children, Georgia Chávez of Chamisal, Marie Tyler of Chamisal, George Lucero Jr. (Agnes) of Chamisal, David Lucero (Anita) of Chamisal, Frank Lucero of Chamisal, Linda Montoya (Raymond) of El Prado, Norma Fernández (Leo) of Río Lucío, Tammy Lucero of Chamisal, Libby Gallegos (Samuel) of Chamisal, brother and sisters, Lillian Pacheco (Adonio, Manuel Lucero (Helen), Elvia Valdez (Octaviano) and Irene Martínez (Albert) 24 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren, 1 great great grandchild and many other relatives.

James Robert Camp, 80, of Ranchos de Taos passed away on April 19, 2006. He is survived by his children, Dee Camp of Pennsylvania, J. Larry Camp of Pennsylvania, Jon Karlton Camp (Karen) of Georgia, grandchildren, Theodore and Elizabeth Soluri, Gennie and Amanda Camp. Private family services will be held. Jane G. Lecht, 80, of Taos passed away on April 19, 2006. She is survived by her husband, Leonard A. Lecht and son, David Jonathan Lecht. Interment will take place at the Jewish cemetery. Arrangements by Rivera- Hanlon Funeral Home.

Juan Francisco Martínez, 76, of Taos passed away on April 19, 2006. He is preceded in death by his daughter, Rosemarie Márquez, brothers, Abrencio and Melecio Martínez and sister Donelia Gonzales. He is survived by his children, Pablo Martinez (Debbie), Jeanette Martínez (Alex), Debbie Martinez, Lori Pavelko (Scott) and Frank Martínez. He is also survived by 7 grandchildren, 1 great granddaughter, sisters and brother, Lupita Muñiz, Rutelio Martínez, Ursinia Luján and Lydia Páiz (Joe). Rosary was recited on April 23, 2006 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Funeral mass was held on, April 24, 2006 at Our Lady of Guadalupe. Interment was held at Santa Fe National cemetery. Michael E. Pariseau, 55, of Taos passed away unexpectedly on April 18, 2006. He is preceded in death by his parents, George and Ethel May Pariseau. He is survived by his brothers and sisters, Garry Pariseau (Lois) of San Antonio, TX, Nancy G. Swanberg (Glenn) of Seattle, WA, Dan Pariseau (Crystal) of Ft. Worth, TX and Mary Pat Coyne of Little Canada, Minnesota. Funeral service and burial will be held in Grand Forks, North Dakota. Arrangements by RiveraHanlon Funeral Home.

Bonnie Jean McConnell (58) has gone home to be with the One. After a 2 month battle with coma condition she died at UNM Hospital on Saturday, April 15. Jean would do anything to avoid filing her income tax. Jean was born to Edward Moore McConnell and Annie Pearl McConnell in Topeka, Kansas. She is survived by her brother Edward McConnell of Riviera, Texas, and her sons Lindsey Sheffield of Albuquerque and Nathan McConnell of Missoula, Montana. Jean earned a PhD in English from UNM in the mid70's, taught English at UNM Albuquerque, New Mexico Military Institute in Roswell, and at UNMTaos. She had moved to the Taos area in 1997. Jean began teaching English, in China, in 2002. She was doing what she loved, teaching English to English major students at Yunnan University in Kunming, China, when she fell ill. Her boyfriend, Ben, remains in China.
A loving mother, wife, girlfriend, teacher, Buddhist, citizen of the world, Jean was all of these and more to those of us who knew her. Her joyful & vital spirit will be sorely missed. Jean will be cremated, and a memorial will be held in Taos at a future date, to be announced.

Dora G. Medina, 92, of Talpa passed away on June 12, 2006. She is preceded in death by her husband, Esías Medina, sisters, Teresita García, Adelecia Gallegos, Perfecta Apodaca and brother, David Gutierrez. She is survived by her children, Bernie Garcia (Rose) of Talpa, Eliu Medina (Gloria) of Colorado, Eloy Medina of Albuquerque, Gloria Lavadie (Toby) of Taos, Frances Medina (Charlie) of Llano Quemado and Becky Espinoza of Taos. She is also survived by 18 grandchildren, 35 great grandchildren, 4 great great grandchildren and brother, Augustine Córdova (Kathy) of Pueblo, CO, many other relatives and friends.
Rosary was recited on June 13, 2006. Funeral mass was held on June 14, 2006. Both services were held at the Talpa Capilla. Interment was held at Talpa cemetery. Arrangements by Rivera-Hanlon Funeral Home.

Corina Ortega, 91, a life long resident and faithful member of St. Anthony’s Parish of Questa passed away on June 10, 2006 at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Santa Fe. Mrs. Ortega was a active member of the Carmelitas, Sacred Heart League, and the Peoples Eucharist League. She is preceded in death by her parents, José Albino and Andrellita Rael, her husband, Ruben Ortega, brothers Selimo, Honorio, J. Elí and Clarence Rael, two infant sons, and one infant daughter. She is survived by her children, Jane Gonzales (Victor), Betty Sánchez (Chris), Gabe Ortega all of Albuquerque, Elma Ortega, Loretta Ortega, Angela Chávez, Reyna Gonzales (Daniel) all of Questa, 16 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister Nora Gálvez (Eric), sisters-in-law, Cora and Adela Rael.
Rosary was recited on June 12, 2006. Funeral Mass was held on June 13, 2006. Both services were held at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Questa. Interment was held at San Pedro cemetery in Questa. Arrangements by Rivera- Hanlon Funeral Home.
