Myra Carp, 76, Myra Carp, the former Educational Director of Stephen Wise Free Synagogue, died Wednesday, March 28th, 2007 at the Physicians Regional Medical Center, Naples Florida. She was 76. She is survived by her husband Ben of 57 years, her four children, Joel (wife Suzanne), Carol (Husband Ralph Roberts), Kenny, and Douglas (wife Jacquie). Her grandchildren Rose, Zach, Marcus, Jennifer, Michael, Jordan and Tania who will miss her very much. Myra Carp lived in paradise, Marco Island, Florida, with her husband Benjamin. She surrounded her home with tropical fruit bearing plants, 15' palm trees, African violets and rare orchids which bloomed regularly. Myra was a confidant, an advisor and counselor to numerous women whom she took freely under her wing. This was something Myra did naturally and with an open heart. She was a scholar, educator and an excellent storyteller. Myra could entertain, make you laugh and educate you all at the same time. Her restless intellect, curiosity, and desire to stimulate knowledge made it difficult for her not to dominate almost any gathering. Her husband described that force of personality as “Myra's gravitational influence”. Myra Carp had a long, intense love affair with Benjamin Carp that spanned almost fiftynine years of marriage and extended over several continents. She actively raised a family of four while earning an undergraduate degree from New York State University and a Masters degree from Fordham University in Manhattan. Myra and her husband Ben were the original owners of American Artist Bed and Breakfast in Taos New Mexico, avid art collectors and world traveler adventurers. She trekked the Himalayan Mountains, walked across England, hiked the Andes Mountain, camped the length of Alaska, hitchhiked all of Central America, and did it because she wanted to. Myra was a prolific writer of memoirs, travel stories, poetry, cookbooks and a tale of Route 66 inspired by real life experiences. Her husband claimed that her middle name should be 'Google' since she divided her golden years asking 'Google' questions about word meanings, word origins, history, how to keep her African violets healthy. Myra took gobs of her timesharing adventures with her 7 grandchildren, leading a writers group on Marco Island, reading and completing New York Time's crossword puzzles with a pen. Numerous friends will remember her as a woman of enormous energy and commitment, whose personality was an influence on their lives. She was a mighty warrior for the best ethics and principles in relationships. She never gave up, she never gave in; she never backed down and she never backed up. Myra will be buried next to her parents in Mount Ararat cemetery, Farmingdale, NY on Sunday, April 1, 2007. The family will be sitting Shiva at 2017 Butterfly Maiden Trail in Albuquerque, New Mexico, April 5th to April 9th. Lily R. Kinkade, 57, of Des Montes, passed away on March 21. She is survived by her husband Richard P. Kinkade; parentsin- law, C.P. and Lucy Kinkade of Sugar Grove, Virginia; sister and brother-inlaw, Chuck and Jane Smith of Green Valley, Arizona; and her many devoted friends and colleagues at Taos Ski Valley. A native of the Bronx, she moved to Taos in 1980 after a oneweek ski vacation in Taos Ski Valley inspired her to leave her career as a legal secretary in New York City. Lily never regretted the move, for as much as she missed her Sicilian “sopresot” (sopressata) and “mutzarelle” (Mozzarella) from Arthur Avenue's Italian delis, she found something in Taos she loved even more: her husband Dick. She began her career at Taos Ski Valley, Inc. as Ernie Blake's personal secretary and worked for him until his death in 1989. She then worked as the office manager another ten years before moving into the accounting department where she advanced to corporate controller. The passing of such a central member of the Ski Valley family will be felt deeply as both a personal and a professional loss. She had many interests in addition to skiing. She was an avid reader, talented quilter, knitter, beader and an aspiring pianist. One of her finest talents was her ability to teach herself new things. She was always generous with her both knowledge gladly teaching others the new technologies and skills she had mastered and the product of her efforts, as those who own and cherish a Lily Kinkade quilt can attest. She was a devout catlover, and her Maine Coons, Filigree and Sheva, will be among those who miss her most. Lily and Dick received a great deal of emotional and daily living support over the final few months of Lily's life from friends and family far and near, and Dick conveys his heartfelt thanks to one and all. A memorial service celebrating Lily will be held at Taos Ski Valley on Saturday, April 7 at 5 pm in the Resort Center. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to a charity of ones choice or to The National Brain Tumor Foundation, 22 Battery Street, Suite 612, San Francisco, CA 94111-5520. www.braintumor.org

Pedro (Peter) Ortiz y Pino, born June 17, 1918, went to his reward at the age of 88 on Tuesday, March 6, 2007 after a long, loving and productive life. He was preceded in death by his wife, Evangeline; and by all of his family of his generation: sisters, Virginia Ortiz, Reynalda Dinkel; brother, Arthur Ortiz; cousins, Frank Ortiz y Davis, Josefita Gómez, Concha Ortiz y Pino de Kleven, and Mela Martin. Pete leaves behind a large family whose sorrow at his loss is tempered by their knowledge that his values and his ideals will continue to shape our own work and lives. He is survived by six children, Gerald Ortiz y Pino and wife, Donna Bruzzese, Louise Stevenson and husband, Leroy, Michael, Roberta White, Loretta and partner, Callie Williams, Paul and wife, Jana; 18 grandchildren and step-grandchildren and 10 of their spouses; 22 great-grandchildren and stepgrandchildren; brother-in-law, Edward Digneo of Santa F and his children, Vincent Digneo and Bernadette Gould; niece Judith Hasted and nephew Ronald Dinkel of Santa Fe; nephews Arturo and Nelson Ortiz and families of Caracas, Venezuela. Pete was born in Galisteo, NM in 1918 and was orphaned at an early age by the devastations of the influenza epidemic. He and his sisters were reared on the large family ranch in Galisteo by his grandfather, Juan, his aunts and his uncle, Jose Ortiz y Pino. Pete went to St. Michael's boarding school for his entire 12 years of education. He attended New Mexico A & M for two years, studying animal husbandry to improve operations of the family ranch and married Evangeline (Vangie) Blanchard in Santa Fe in 1941. A heart condition kept Pete out of the armed services during the War, so he turned to public service in state government instead, working initially for Victor Salazar at the Bureau of Revenue where he eventually assumed the position of Deputy Director. His expertise in state taxation policy stood him good stead when the winds of political change ended his governmental service in the mid 1950's. Pete began his own bookkeeping firm and within a few years was invited to join the operations of one of his major clients, Sabre Pinon, a company at the forefront of the new uranium mining industry in the state. Sabre Pinon over time and mergers became United Nuclear Corporation and he eventually retired from that company in 1978 after serving as treasurer and comptroller of the mining and milling division. Pete and Vangie moved to Albuquerque in the mid 1970's after bringing up their family of six children in Santa Fe. He and his son, Michael, at this time began a series of businesses in Santa Fe, including MediCar Auto Services and Los Campos RV Park. In his retirement, Pete became deeply involved with volunteer work at St. Charles Borromeo Parish and at St. Joseph's Hospital. At the parish he was a lector, a Eucharistic minister, and a member of the Holy Name Society and the Parish Council. Pete also joined the Serra Club, a Catholic men's organization that raises funds to support seminarians preparing for the priesthood. With the Serrans, he and Vangie traveled to meetings in Latin America and Europe. They also went on a pilgrimage to the Holy Land and Rome led by Archbishop Sheehan. Pete was always a strong and vocal Lobo fan, possessor of season tickets for both football and basketball. Thus it was that on February 14, 1998, he suffered a serious stroke while watching a game at the Pit. Before he had fully recovered, he lost Vangie to a sudden, devastating cancer in 2000. Pete's last years were spent at Marler Manor, a small, personalized assisted care facility. Rosary was recited on Friday, March 9, 2007, 7:30 p.m., at French Mortuary, Wyoming Blvd. Chapel, 7121 Wyoming Blvd. NE. Mass was celebrated on Saturday, March 10, 2007, 9:30 a.m., at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, 1818 Coal Place SE. Interment has taken place at Mt. Calvary cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Pete's name to the Archdiocese of Santa Fe's Serra Club, the organization that he was so active in establishing, 4000 St. Joseph's Place NW, Albuquerque, NM 87120. French Mortuary, 1111 University Blvd. NE 843-6333.
