Alice F. Gonzales, 84, of Taos died peacefully in her home onJune 7, 2007. She was born in Arroyo Seco, New Mexico. She is preceded in death by her parents, Emilio and Andrieta Fernández, husband, Cleofas Gonzales, daughter Dina DesGeorges, brothers Herminio and Onorio Fernández. She is survived by her daughter Gloria Bradbury (David) of Santa Fe, sisters Claudina Romero, and Faby Montoya, both of Ranchos de Taos, Olivia Varos, Santa Fe, brothers, Arturo Fernández, Arroyo Seco, Arsenio Fernández, (Bertina) of El Prado, Elizardo Fernández, (Gloria) of Farmington and Robert Fernández, Pueblo, Colorado. Grandchildren Adrian DesGeorges, California, Andrea Bradbury, Chicago, Illinois, Elizabeth Gottschall (Tom), Flagstaff, Arizona and two great-grandchildren Tyler and Lauren Gottschall. Son-in-law, Anthony DesGeorges, Ranchos deTaos and Step daughter Tina Martínez and family of Ranchos de Taos. Evening service was held on June 8, 2007 at Rivera Chapel. Funeral service was held on June 9, 2007at Spanish Baptist Church. Internment was held at Arroyo Seco cemetery. Arrangements by Rivera-Hanlon Funeral Home.

Gilbert “Giligan” Luján
Gilbert “Giligan” Luján, 75, passed awayon June 6, 2007. He is preceded in death by parents, Lorenzo and Mary Luján, and Tammy Luján, daughter in law. He is survived by his daughter Karen Abeyta (Roy) from Taos, his son, Joseph Luján from Mesa, Arizona. He is also survived by grandchildren, Roxanne Johnson (Amos) of Pecos, Josephine Vigil of Albuquerque, Claudia Abeyta and Tiara Luján.Great grandchildren, Stacy Johnson, Kevin Johnson and Jayden Vigil, also cousins and other relatives. Memorial service was held on June 11, 2007 at Rivera Chapel. Interment was held at Santa Fe National cemetery with military honors. Arrangements by Rivera-Hanlon Funeral Home.

Simon Evangeline Mares
Evangeline Mares AKA Vangie, 68, of Albuquerque passed away on June 3, 2007 at the University of Colorado Hospital in Denver. She was born on October 2, 1938 to Esequiel and Feliz Rael in Questa, NM. She is preceded in death by one sister Benita Gonzales and one brother Alex Rael. Vangie is survived by a daughter Susan Mares of Albuquerque, three brothers; Claudio (Prescides) Rael of Questa, Eliseo (Laura) Rael of Questa, Joe (Rebecca) Rael of Questa, one sister Luisa Rael of Albuquerque and numerous nieces and nephews. A Rosary was held on Thursday June 7, 2007 at St. Anthony's Church in Questa at 7:00 PM. The Funeral Mass was held on Friday June 8, 2007 at St. Anthony's Church in Questa at 10:00AM following with the Interment at El Pueblito cemetery in Questa. Arrangements were made with Weylen's Funeral Home of Questa, NM.

Simon Gilbert Gonzales
Simon Gilbert Gonzales, 65, of El Prado passed away on June 02, 2007. He was owner and operator of Gonzales Sand & Gravel. He was an Army veteran of Vietnam War. He is preceded in death by his parents, Nick & Carmelita Gonzales, parents in law, Onofre & María Inez Baros, brothers, Eloy and Juan I. Gonzales, nieces, Peggy Martínez and Elena Gonzales. He is survived by his wife, Rosalie Gonzales, children, Joseph Gonzales, Gilbert Gonzales (Joy), Yvette Swallows (Scott) and Eric James Gonzales (Melissa). He is also survived by grandchildren, Andrew (Breanna), Melanie, Nicole, Raúl and Katrina Gonzales, Aaron and Allyson Swallows, sisters and brothers, Teddie Martínez (Alfonso), Alice Romero, Dolores Rael (Joe), Joann Trujillo (Leroy), Patsy Gonzales, brothers, Ernest Gonzales (Edna), Telesfor Gonzales (Carmen), Lee Gonzales (Adelita) and many other relatives. Rosary was recited on June 4, 2007. Funeral mass was held on June 5, 2007. Both services were held at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Interment was held at Dolores cemetery. Ben Gómez
Ben Gómez, 93, of Cordillera, a World War II veteran, passed away on July 22, 2007. He was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Mary Gómez; daughter, Lorraine Gómez; son, George Gómez, Sr.; parents, Demetrio and Carlota Gómez; brother and sisters, Anita Gómez, Candido Gómez, Pauline Gómez, Domitila Martínez, and Mary Nerren; and one grandson, Max Gómez. He is survived by one sister, Soveida Vargas; his daughters, Bennie M. McJunkins (Ray) of Cordillera, Frances Wilson (Karl) of Chicago, IL; Jane Nichols (Tony) of Lebanon, Missouri; and son, Robert L. Gómez, Sr. (Alta) of Fishersville, VA. He is also survived by grandchildren, Kerry L. McJunkins (Heidi), Michael J. McJunkins (Renee); Robert L. Gómez, Jr. (Janet); Dennis Gómez (Erin); Victoria Mininger (Brian); Brandon Wilson, Dakota and Sawyer Nichols; Tessie Gómez Prudencio; George Gómez, Jr.; Benny and Marvin Gómez; step-grandchildren, Alodia Wilson Woods and David Wilson; great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and beloved friends. Funeral service and interment were held on July 25, 2007 at Los Córdovas cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Building Fund, Valley Bible Baptist Church, 56 Arroyo Seco Circle, Espanola, NM 87532. Arrangements by Rivera-Hanlon Funeral Home.

Gene Boge
Raphael Eugene ("Gene") Boge, (1939-2007), 67, loving husband and father, woodworker, religious artist, and designer of Holy Trinity Park in downtown Taos, New Mexico, passed away from natural causes in his home in Taos on July 16, 2007. Born in Amarillo, Texas on June 16, 1939, most of Gene's youth and adult life were lived in Wisconsin. A 1963 graduate of St. Norberts College of DePere, Wisconsin, Gene served our nation with the US Army and Army Reserves in an armored unit, achieving the rank of Captain before his honorable discharge. He retired to Taos almost two decades ago, and was known for his deep, abiding, and transparent Catholic faith, the positive messages enshrined in Holy Trinity Park, and as a person deeply concerned for the plights of the lonely and underprivileged. Gene was preceded in death by his mother, Aurelia (Flynn) Boge; father, Raymond Boge; and his two sisters Janette and Patricia. He was survived by his three children Bart (Illinois), Sarah and Michele (Wisconsin), and five grandchildren: Abigail, Isabel, Frances, Connor, and Elaina. Memorial services, including a Catholic mass at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church in Taos will be held on Friday, August 03, 2007 at 10 AM, and a military funeral at the Santa Fe National cemetery will be held on Monday, August 06, 2007 at 10 AM. Andrew Mondragon
Andrew D. Mondragón, 48, of Des Montes passed away on July 12, 2007. He was a 1979 graduate of Taos High School. He was an avid sports fan who loved going to Albuquerque to watch Dukes and Lobo games. He also liked to watch the WWF and his favorite teams, the Chicago Bears & Cubs on TV. Andrew was also known for letting everyone know about the latest news and current events. He is preceded in death by his mother, Estella Mondragón, and great-niece Alexandria Durán. He is survived by his father, Lino E. Mondragón, and brothers and sisters, Teresa Gonzales, (Eddie), of Taos, his twin brother, Joseph Mondragón of Des Montes, Cecilia Mondragón of Des Montes, Robert Mondragón (Christine) of Rio Rancho, Lori Serrano (Hilario) of Des Montes, Kat Durán, his special niece, who he helped raise, and cherished Godson, Hunter Evan Tafoya, numerous nieces, nephews, uncles, aunts and other relatives. Rosary was recited on July 15, 2007. Funeral Mass was held on July 16, 2007. Both services were held at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Arroyo Seco. Interment was held at the Arroyo Seco cemetery. Harold Ritter Holt
Harold Ritter Holt, 78, of Ranchos deTaos passed away on July10, 2007. He was an Army veteran of the Korean Conflict. He worked as a Civil Engineer for the Port of Seattle and the City of Seattle; he also worked with the New Mexico Highway Department where he helped design the Rio Grande Gorge Bridge and he also volunteered for Habitat for Humanity. He is preceded in death by his brother, John Holt. He is survived by Carmen Holt, children, Harold Holt(Angie) of Santa Fe, Lisa Holt of Seattle, WA, Theresa Holt of Seattle, WA, Charles Holt (Stephanie) of Victoria, TX and John B. Holt (Elvia) of Clovis, CA, ten grand-children, cousins and other relatives. Memorial service was held on July14, 2007 at St. James Episcopal Church in Taos. Interment will take place at a later date at the Santa Fe National cemetery. Arrangements by Rivera-Hanlon Funeral Home.

Ramon Rascon
Ramón Rascón, 51, of Arroyo Seco passed away unexpectedly on July 09, 2007. He is survived by his wife, Carmen Rascón, children, Ramon Martín Rascón (Robin) of Phoenix, AZ, Arturo Rascón (Tiffiny) of Silver City, Samuel Rascón (Cheryl Gallegos) of Taos, Clara Rascón (Michael Alba) of Phoenix, AZ and Elizabeth Rascón. He is also survived by eight grandchildren, brothers, Raul and Santiago Rascón of Farmington, sisters, Anna Rascón Treviso of Denver, CO, Ofelia Rascón of Mexico and Alicia Rascón of El Paso, TX. Evening service was held on July 12, 2007. Funeral service was held on July13, 2007. Both services were held at Rivera Chapel. Interment was held at the Arroyo Seco cemetery.Arrangements by Rivera-Hanlon Funeral Home.

Loraine Mooney
Loraine Mooney, one of Taos's quiet and true treasures, died peacefully and on her own terms at Plaza de Retiro, July 9. She was 92. Loraine was preceded in death by her husband Chase Mooney and son Wayne Mooney. She is survived by her daughter Barbarah Underwood, sister Marion Binkley Kalmon and niece Winn Loraine Kalmon - all of Taos, by two granddaughters and a grandson, two great-grandchildren, and twelve other nieces and nephews. Loraine had a liberal arts education with library training during the 1930s. As a librarian, she worked in Georgia, Tennessee, Washington DC, Indiana University, Indonesia, and southeastern Indiana. She also worked as an editor for the Indiana Magazine of History, Indiana University Press, and the League of Women Voters newsletter, and was active in volunteer community service. The daughter of a distinguished history professor, William C. Binkley, Loraine married one of her father's brightest students, and they raised their two children in the college town of Bloomington, Indiana. Upon the death of her husband and retirement from her rich library career, Loraine relocated to the high desert, where she was deeply happy. In Taos, Loraine built an artistic and unique house on the Blueberry Hill mesa, with 360-degree views of the land and skies she loved and a garden area that expressed her love of the tranquil Eastern approach to design and her respect for the desert climate. She co-founded the Taos Fiber Guild and the Wool Festival in Taos which she served many years as local coordinator. Other volunteer activities included the Taos Art Association, the Taos public library, and the Taos Land Trust, where she was a board member for a dozen years. Loraine became well known and loved by friends and colleagues as an enthusiastic supporter of the arts and a passionate defender of the land and environment that sustain all of us. An informal memorial gathering will honor Loraine's life on Saturday, July 28th, 1-3 pm, in the Kit Carson Co-op community room. Memorial contributions may be made in Loraine's name to the Taos Land Trust, P.O. Box 376, Taos NM 87571. Arrangements by Rivera-Hanlon Funeral Home.

Eloy Esquípula Cárdenas
Eloy Esquípula Cárdenas, 76, Of Ranchitos passed away on August 11, 2007. He is preceded in death by his parents, Benjamin and Josefita Cárdenas, brothers, Benerito, Floverto and Luis Cárdenas, sisters, Semonita Cárdenas, Evila Ortega and niece, Doris Cárdenas. He is survived by his brother, Enrique Cárdenas of Tooele, Utah, sisters, Manuelita Pacheco (Leroy) and Elvira Quintana (Bolivar) and several nieces and nephews. Rosary was recited on Wednesday August 15, 2007 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church. Funeral mass will be held on Thursday August 16, 2007 at 10 AM at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church, Interment will follow at the Los Córdovas cemetery. Arrangements by Rivera-Hanlon Funeral Home.

Edmundo Vigil
Edmundo L. Vigil, 76, of Taos passed away on August 7, 2007. He is preceded in death by his son, Jose B. Vigil, parents, Jose B. Vigil and Josefita Vigil, father-in- law, Carlos J. Trujillo, mother-in-law, Amelia Trujillo, sisters, Frances Gallegos, Margaret Alarid and Mela LeDoux, brothers, Benito, Juanito and Leo Vigil and dear friend Dolores Struck. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Aurora Vigil, children, Carla Castle, Francisco Vigil (Becky), Antonio Vigil (Dossy), Patrick Vigil (Celsa) and Lourdes Martínez. He is also survived by his sisters, Esmeralda Martínez and Martha Suiter, brothers, Orlando Vigil and Alfonso Vigil (Loretta), brothers-in-law, Willie Gallegos, Richard LeDoux and George Trujillo (Isabel), sister-in-law, Carolina Hall and dear friend and cousin Bernabe Struck, grandchildren, Danielle Vigil, Zacarías Martinez, Christina Vigil, Esther Vigil, Gabriel Martínez, Tanya Martínez, Carlos Vigil and Katie Vigil, great grandson, Estevan Benito Martínez and many nieces, nephews and adopted grandchildren. Rosaries were recited on Wednesday, August 08, 2007 at Rivera Chapel and on Thursday, August 9, 2007 at San Francisco de Asís Catholic Church in Ranchos de Taos. Funeral mass was on Friday, August 10, 2007 at San Francisco de Asís Church. Interment was held at Santa Fe National cemetery. Arrangements by Rivera~Hanlon Funeral Home.

Eloy Medina
Eloy Armando Medina 57, passed away peacefully at home in Rockford. Illinois on Tuesday August 7, 2007 after losing a battle with lung cancer. He worked for THIEL Trucking Company in Belvidere, Illinois. He was preceded in death by his father Eloy E. Medina of Talpa, his mother Clara Medina also of Talpa, and Thomas Wagner, his nephew of El Prado, & Randy Romero, brother-in-law. He is survived by his wife of 40 years Linda Townsend Medina, three sons Eloy Medina Jr. (Angel) of Monterey, Calif., Tony Medina of Marshall, Illinois and Manuel Medina of Rockford, Illinois and one grandson. Three sisters Bertha Quintana (Francis) of El Prado, Eloisa Trujillo (John McKillip) of Albuquerque, Elaine Romero of Parks, Colorado. Three brothers; Frank Medina (Diana) Taos, Clarence Medina of Taos, Salomón Medina of Talpa. Numerous nieces and nephews and friends. He was laid to rest in Rockford, Illinois close to his home.

Paul Garcia
Paul LeRoy García, 71, peacefully passed away August 4, 2007 after a long illness. Born in Embudo August 17, 1935 and a lifelong resident of Taos, he graduated from Menaul High School in 1953 and UNM in 1959 with a B.A. in accounting. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Taos where he served as Treasurer and Elder. He served his country for many years on the Selective Service Board and his special concern and service given to improve the quality of life for New Mexicans through his membership in the Kiwanis Club, and Fraternal Order of Eagles. He served as president of the Taos County Chamber of Commerce, and was active in civic and community affairs. He worked in his father's business, North Pueblo Home Supply founded in 1952, and then as administrator of Holy Cross Hospital prior to opening Paul's Clothes for Men and García Tax Service. He was preceded in death by his parents, Rumaldo M. and Teodorita García. He is survived by his wife, Jeanette García, four children, Yvonne Castillo (Daniel), Andy García, Rumaldo García III (Erma), Paula García, eight step-children, Debra de la Torre (Luís), Diane Seiler, Steven Seiler (Karen), Kevin Seiler (Robin), Floyd Ayala, David Ayala, Anthony Ayala, and Barbara Bush, grandchildren Phyllis, Tabitha, Valerie, Gabriel, Matthew, and Michael, five great-grandchildren, many step-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews who loved him very much and five aunts, Rose Martínez, Lucía Arellano, Viola Wilson, Frances Chacón, and Connie Pacheco. Memorial Service was held on Tuesday, August 07, 2007 at Rivera Chapel. Funeral service was held on Wednesday, August 08, 2007 at First Presbyterian Church in Taos. Memorial contributions may be sent to Menaul School in Albuquerque and the Kiwanis Club of Taos. Arrangements by Rivera-Hanlon Funeral Home.

Gilbert Gallegos
Gilbert Gallegos, 85, life long resident of Questa, NM, born to Eufemia Rael and Santiago Gallegos on January 7, 1922 in Questa, NM, passed away August 1, 2007. He is survived by his children Monica (Jimmy), Tina (Robert), Trudy (Carlos), Athena, Jamie Lynn (Daniel), Phil (Roseanna) & Gilbert Jr; grandchildren JimmyLee, Moriah, Carlos, Shantel, Vania, Delilah, Francisco, Matthew & Alycia; brothers & sisters Jimmy (Albina), Orlando (Lucy), Gloria (Ivan), Dolores (Louie). He is preceded in death by his parents Eufemia & Santiago; his wife Frances Gallegos; brother Solio and his wife Consuelo, brother Louie, sister Olivia and her husband Alexander; granddaughter Baby Tina. Gilbert was proud to have served his country in the U.S. Army during WWII. A rosary will be recited on Friday, August 3, 2007 at 7:00 pm at St. Anthony's Parish in Questa, NM. Mass will take place Saturday, August 4, 2007 at 11:00 am also at St. Anthony's Parish.
