Clara Ruth Rodríguez
Clara Ruth Rodríguez, 76, of Ranchos de Taos passed away on September 30, 2007. She is preceded in death by her husband, Raymundo Rodríguez, parents, Feliberto & Amelia Salazar and brothers Clemaquito and Manuel Salazar. She is survived by her children, José Rodríguez (Grace) of Des Montes, Linda Chávez of Llano Quemado and Michael Rodríguez of Santa Fe. She is also survived by six grandchildren, four great grandchildren, sisters and brothers, Benita, Anita Eusebio, Feliberto Jr. (Selma) and Bernabé Salazar (Juanita) all of Ranchos de Taos, many other relatives and friends. Rosaries were recited on October 02, 2007 at San Francisco de Asís Catholic Church and on October 03, 2007 at Rivera Chapel. Funeral mass will be held on Thursday, October 04, 2007 at 10 AM at San Francisco de Asís Church with interment to follow at Jesús Nazareno cemetery. Arrangements by Rivera-Hanlon Funeral Home.

Leonardita Sánchez Martínez
Leonardita Sánchez Martínez, born November 30, 1922 passed away on September 28, 2007. She loved to make quilts and bake apple pies. She was a Carmelita de Llano de San Juan de Nepomuceno. She is preceded in death by her son, Macario Griego, first husband, Raymundo Griego Sr. and second husband, Chris Martínez, parents, Epifinia & Macedonio Sánchez. She is survived by her children, Esther Medina (Robert) of Denver, CO, Reymundo Griego (Julia) of Peñasco, Elmer Griego (Virginia) of Brighton, CO, Eva Griego of Rodarte, Judy Casados (Johnny) of Chamisal, Patsy Griego of Río Lucío, Freddy Martínez (Sarah Ortiz) of Rodarte and Annette Martínez of Española. She is also survived by 24 grandchildren, 41 great grandchildren, 12 great great grandchildren and many other relatives. The family would like to thank Teresita Montoya for all the love and care she gave to their mother. To Dr. Norte for all the home visits he made and Options Program. Rosary was recited on September 30, 2007. Funeral mass was held on October 01, 2007. Both services were held at San Antonio de Padua Catholic Church in Peñasco. Interment was held at Llano de San Juan cemetery. Arrangements by Rivera-Hanlon Funeral Home.

Charlie J. Ortega
Charlie J. Ortega of Cerro, NM passed away on September 27, 2007 in Costilla. He was born on February 11, 1971 to Carlos and Bennie Ortega in Taos, NM. His hobbies included fishing and was a Denver Broncos fan. He is preceded in death by a sister Josie Ortega. He is survived by his parents, one son Charles Ortega, and one daughter Kalista Ortega both of Monte Vista, CO., one brother Steven Ortega (Rachel) of Cerro, NM, one sister Michelle Ortega of Cerro, NM, (3) nephews Micah, Jaden, and Hudson Ortega, 1 niece Kylie Ortega, Numerous aunts and uncles and companion Linda Vigil. A Rosary was held at 7 PM on Sunday, September 30, 2007 at Weylen's Funeral Home Chapel in Questa and another at 7 PM on Monday, October 1, 2007 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church in Cerro. The funeral mass was held at 5 PM on Tuesday, October 2, 2007 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church in Cerro. Interment followed at Cerro cemetery. Arrangements were made with Weylen's Funeral Home of Questa, NM.

Jay Howard Runner
Jay Howard Runner, 55, of Eagle Nest passed away unexpectedly on September 19, 2007. Jay retired 15 months ago to live out his dream at the family cabin. He will be greatly missed. He is preceded in death by his parents Hal and Mary Evelyn Runner and Uncle Jay Gould. He is survived by his son's Jeremy Runner of Boise, Idaho and Dusty Runner Nampa, Idaho, three grandchildren Wesley Jay, Austin and Peyton Runner, and sisters Jan Wilson (J.D.) of Goodland, KS and Joan Ruddimann (John) of Allentown, NJ. A memorial gathering will be held in Eagle Nest NM. Arrangements by Rivera-Hanlon Funeral Home.

Michael D. Major
Michael D. Major, Beloved father of Amy (Doug) Strohmeier and Emily (Jeff) Brittingham. Loving grandfather of Abby and Gates Strohmeier. Devoted son of Ruth Anderson and the late William R. Major. Dear brother of Ronald (Karen) Major, William (Susan) Major and Gerry (Joe) Mirus. passed away Saturday, September 22, 2007 at the age of 59 years. Rebecca Rael
Rebecca Rael, 91, of Arroyo Hondo passed away on September 18, 2007. She is preceded in death by her husband, José Amado Rael. She is survived by her children, Steve Rael of Albuquerque, Rubana Montoya (+Rudy) of Arroyo Hondo, Elaine Vigil (Arnold) of Albuquerque, Rudy Rael of Arroyo Hondo and Ray Rael (Jeanette) of Ranchos de Taos. She is also survived by 11 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, brothers, Tony Medina (Odila) and Juan Medina (Beatrice), sisters, Beatrice Gonzales, Della Smith (Jim) and Ursula Romo and many other relatives. Rosary was recited on September 19, 2007. Funeral mass was held on September 20, 2007. Both services were held at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church in Arroyo Hondo. Interment was held at Santa Fe National cemetery. Arrangements by Rivera-Hanlon Funeral Home.

Christine Mary Zeck
Christine Mary Zeck was born to Florence and James Hauronic on September 16, 1956 in Chicago, Illinois. After high school, she worked for a dentist locally, as his assistant where she discovered her interest in dentistry. Two years later she attended the University of New Mexico, and later began working as a dental hygienist for several years in Albuquerque. She eventually moved to Taos where she continued as a hygienist, working for several dentists throughout the years. She enjoyed kayaking and river rafting during her early years in Taos. She also liked to snow ski and mountain bike. In the summer, she enjoyed growing vegetables in her garden. Chris was devoted to her son and she was able to see him grow into a fine young man. Through the last years of her life, she struggled with health issues and eventually died at her home in the mountains outside of Taos in August, 2007, at the age of 50. The family would like to thank all the very good people and great friends who offered their help. We are very grateful. May she rest in peace. Christine is survived by her mother, Florence Hauronic, 93, of Palm Springs, CA; her son Jon Zeck, 15, of Las Cruces, NM; her brother, James Hauronic III, 53, and her nephew James E. Hauronic IV, 15, both of Twentynine Palms, CA. A service will be held at Rivera-Hanlon Funeral Home on Saturday, October 20, at 11AM. A reception will follow at Ronnie Lee's

Dimas, Connie
Connie Dimas, 70, of Taos, passed away on September 16, 2007. She was a care giver with the Mountain Home Health care. She enjoyed embroidery, bead work and spending time with her grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, Tiburcio and Martina Dimas, brothers, Jacobo and Hignio Dimas and sisters, Rita and Agneda Dimas and companion Lito Romero. She is survived by her children, Andrew Gonzales (Violanda), Cecilia Dimas, Christine Martínez (Gerald) and Gabino Dimas, grandchildren, Corine Dimas, Raelyn Dimas, Santana Martínez, Esperanza Martínez, and María Elena Martínez and great-grandchild, Matthew Sánchez. Rosary was recited on September 19, 2007. Funeral mass was held on September 20, 2007. Both services were held at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Interment was held at Las Cruces cemetery. Arrangements by Rivera-Hanlon Funeral Home.

Chavez, Victor
Our beloved husband, father and grandfather Victor Chávez, from Llano Quemado passed away on September 16, 2007. He was born on March 3, 1919 and is preceded in death by his parents Alberto and Pablita Chávez, a brother Clemaco Chávez and a nephew whom he also raised Clem.He is survived by his loving wife Ida Chávez, brother Henry Chávez and Sister Emma Martínez. His children, Vera Martínez, Pauline (Lee) Archuleta, Aldo Chávez, Priscilla (Julian) Joseph, Roseanne (Leonard) Suazo, Sally (Lalo) Baeza, Kathy (Jeff) Martínez, Matthew (Andrea) Suazo and Anthony Trujillo. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Benny, Clem, Erica, Florence, Anthony, Maria, Brandie, Sheila, Billy, Julie, Christine, Marcus, Marissa, Julian, Mindy, Alex, Leonard, Israel, Javier, Marcella, Don David, Cassie, and Melissa. Also 51 Great-grandchildren, 3 great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Rosary was recited on September 18, 2007. Funeral mass was held on September 19, 2007. Both services were held at San Francisco de Asís Catholic Church. Interment was held at Santa Fe National cemetery. Arrangements by Rivera-Hanlon Funeral Home.

Valdez, Juan
Juan Valdez, 73, of Questa, passed away September 16, 2007. He is preceded in death by his parents, José and Clorinda Valdez and grandparents Julian and Rumaldita Valdez. He is survived by his wife, Bertha Valdez and children, José R.Valdez (Priscilla), Manuel Valdez (Debbie), Joyce Archuleta (Dean) and Giselle Valdez, his sisters, Lorraine Anderson (Richard) of Las Vegas Nevada, Betty Beirne of Summersville, WV, Louisa Aragon (Ernest) of Questa, Mother in law Delmiria Medina of Questa, grandchildren BreAnn Martínez, Kandi Valdez, Andy Valdez, Erica Archuleta, Miranda Ortiz, great-grandchildren Shelton Drake Valdez and Kylie Valdez. Rosary was recited on September 18, 2007 at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Questa, NM. Funeral mass was held on September 19, 2007 at St. Anthony's Catholic Church. Arrangements by Rivera-Hanlon Funeral Home.

Montano, Meliton
Melitón Locario Montaño, 78, of Arroyo Seco, passed away on September 15, 2007. He is preceded in death by his parents Locario and Natividad Montaño, brothers, Ino and Alfonso Montaño. He is survived by his brothers Lee Montaño (Mary Louise) of Salt Lake City, Utah, Alex Montaño (Gerrie) of Arroyo Seco, sisters, Adela Gonzales of Arroyo Seco, Ernestina Mondragón of Tooele, Utah and Eliza Sánchez of Des Montes, sister in law, Ida Montaño of Tooele, Utah and many nephews and nephews. Rosaries were recited on September 17, 2007 at Rivera Chapel in Taos and on September 18, 2007 at Holy Trinity Catholic Parish in Arroyo Seco, Funeral mass was held on September 19, 2007 at Holy Trinity Catholic Parish. Interment was held at Arroyo Seco cemetery. Arrangements by Rivera-Hanlon Funeral Home.

Javon Orion Graves
Javon Orion Graves 30, of Albuquerque died Sept. 15, 2007 from complications of a spinal cord injury. She leaves behind her mother, Jeane Graves, her step-mother Kerry Dalen, her Dad Tom Christensen, her brother Ivon Elliott Graves of Albuquerque, her aunt Ditto Nowakoski, of Seattle, and her husband Aaron Swanson (”Swaney”) of Hawaii. Javon attended Del Norte H.S. in Albuq. and Chamisa Mesa in Taos. She lived in Taos 9 years. She was one of Fred’s beauties, and she owned her own business at the age of 21. She received a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from the University of Hawaii in Maui. Javon was a beautiful, fierce, and high energy free spirit who overcame many physical and spiritual obstacles in her life. After the diving accident that left her quadrapalegic in 2005, she underwent hard ships and struggles that were unthinkable to most of us. By the end of her life, she had regained her independence and was full of a spirit of accomplishment and possibility. She will be missed dearly by friends and family. Memorial services were held Wednesday at Shakyamuni Buddhist Center in Albuq. Donations in Javon’s name can be made to Global Opportunities, an Albuquerque organization dedicated to taking people in wheelchairs out to the wilderness. Cisneros, Porfiro
Porfirio A. Cisneros, 81, of Questa passed away at his home on September 14, 2007. He was born to Cornelio and Anita Cisneroson January 9, 1927 he then married Ramoncita Valdez. Porfirio was a member of the United States Navy, and he was a rancher. He is preceded in death by one son; Floyd Cisneros. He is survived by his wife, three sons; Lawrence Cisneros, Beck (JoAnn) Cisneros, Phillip Cisneros all from Questa, four daughters; JoAnn (Rick) Trujillo of Albuquerque, Veronica (Felix) Bailon of Albuquerque, Wanda (William Sr.) Brown of Questa, Dolores (0.) Lopez of Albuquerque, four brothers; Juan (Mavis) Cisneros, Ernest (Rosie) Cisneros, Cornelio (Sophia) Cisneros, Carlos (Patsy) Cisneros all from Questa, three sisters; Rose Rael of Questa, Bessie (Eddie) Grant of Taos, Olivama Rael of Espanola, 18 grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren. A rosary was held on Sunday, September 16, 2007 in Questa at St Anthony's Church. The Funeral Mass was held on Monday, September 17, 2007 also in Questa at St Anthony's Church. Arrangements were made with Weylen's Funeral Home in Questa.

Salter, Daniel
Daniel M. Salter, born 9/7/1928 passed on September 12, 2007 in Colorado Springs, Co., where he had been living for the past year with his care giver, Ruth Hurtado. He is survived by his daughter, Darline DeStephen and three grandchildren, Daniel, Dena and Derek DeStephen. He moved to Taos, NM in 1990 after retiring from Mountain View College, Dallas, Texas, after serving as Head of Pilot Technology for 22 years. Prior to that he served 21 years in the United States Air Force in the field of electronics and radar. He was a Korean War veteran. While living in Taos, he was an avid lecturer regarding his UFO studies and co-authored his book "Life witha Cosmos Clearance". He was a member of the Unity Church. He was generous and loving to all who knew him…He's on the "mothership" now…Farewell, Daniel…You will be remembered always. A memorial celebration will be held on his 80th birthday!

Powell, John
John Douglas Powell, 64, of Taos, NM, passed away September 6, 2007, after a valiant struggle against Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (Lou Gehrig's Disease) complicated by Lyme disease. Born in Abilene, Texas, he graduated from Abilene High School in 1961. He graduated from Texas Tech University in 1964 with a BS degree in Business and Distribution Management. He served in the US Navy in Da Nang, Viet Nam, where he was admiral's aide and flag lieutenant. He achieved the rank of 1st Lieutenant. In 2000, after 27 years with Xerox Corporation, he and his wife, Olivia, moved to Taos, NM, where they founded Aspen Business Systems, Inc., a Xerox sales agency serving seven counties in Northern New Mexico. He was a member of Good News Christian Fellowship and Taos Milagro Rotary Club. He enjoyed fishing, hiking and woodworking. He was preceded in death by his father, Roscoe Powell. He is survived by his wife, Olivia Pinion Powell of Taos, his mother Rebecca Powell of Abilene, Texas, a sister, Patty Williams and her husband Joe, also of Abilene, two nieces, 5 great nieces and one great nephew. He is also survived by his cousin and friend Paul Ungerer and his wife Cheryl of Denver. Interment was held on Friday September 14, 2007 at 3 PM at the Santa Fe National cemetery. Memorial Services were held on Saturday September 15, 2007 at 10 AM at the Rio Bravo picnic area in Pilar. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to the ALS Association, P.O. Malotte, Darwin
Darwin D. Malott, 77, of Taos passed away September 5, 2007. He was a Lawrence Kansas High School graduate where he excelled in both foot ball and track. He attended college at Kansas University and Bethany College in Lindborg, Kansas. He was in the Kansas National Guard. He was a third generation owner of Malott Hardware Store of Lawrence, Kansas. He moved to Taos in 1988 with his wife Lori where he retired. He worked home construction for six years. He loved gardening, building projects and designing water gardens. He is preceded in death by his daughter, Terrell Graham. He is survived by his wife, Lori Malott, son, Kevin Malott of San Diego, CA, son in-law, Jack Graham of Lawrence, KS, grandchildren, Justin and Mason Graham of Lawrence, K Sand Haley Graham of Kansas City, KS. Contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society. Arrangements by Rivera-Hanlon Funeral Home.

Denny, Isabel
Isabel Denny, 70, Our beloved Aunt, cousin and friend, passed away after a short illness. She is preceded in death by her husband Danny, son Tony, brother Michael, Arsenio, Juanita and parents. She is survived by nieces Joann and Monica (Monie) Martinez. We will never forget her kindness, generosity, her love for everyone who touched her life & her humor. We will miss her dearly.

Christine Di Lisio
Christine Di Lisio of Taos and former resident of Raton passed away in Taos on Tuesday, September 4, 2007. Christine Di Lisio was born in Raton January 10, 1927 the daughter of Joseph and Christina Pone Di Lisio. She was very active in business and social affairs in Raton and Taos. A person of many talents as seen in Di Lisio Department Store, International Bank, Real Estate, Country Store, Twining Weaving, raised cattle and later llamas in Taos. Christine also was an avid sports person, especially bowling, golf, tennis and skiing. Christine is preceded in death by her parents and brothers: Charles Di Lisio, Joe Di Lisio, Jr., Alfred DiLisio and sisters: Eleanor Di Lisio, and Lina Marshall. She is survived by sister Elizabeth Boyle and husband Jerry and brother Leonard Di Lisio and a multitude of nieces and nephews. Recitation of the Most Holy Rosary will be held at St. Patrick's-St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Raton at 1:00 PM on Saturday, September 8, 2007 recited by Frank Cimino. Mass of the Resurrection will follow at 1:30 PM at St. Patrick's-St.Joseph's Catholic Church in Raton with Father Daniel Balizan as celebrant. Interment, will follow at Mt. Calvary cemetery in Raton. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Santisima Trinidad, Arroyo, NM 87514 in her memory. Arrangements and a celebration of love for Christine Di Lisio are under the direction of the Yaksich-Long Funeral Home of Raton.
