Maria Carlotta Apodaca de Saavedra
November 18, 2005
Maria Carlotta Apodaca de Saavedra of Taos passed from this life on November 18, 2005. She was born October 27, 1928. She was very active in her church Our Lady of Guadalupe in Taos. She was a former merchant of Taos Plaza. She was preceded in death by her parents, Norberto & Emma Saavedra Valdez. Carlotta was the fifth generation descendant born in Taos from an old Taos family on her mother's side, Antonio Joseph de Tevis. She is survived by her husband of 45 years, Joseph Demecio Apodaca, their children, Joe Apodaca (Joella) of Taos, Yolanda Valerio (Michael) of Taos, Michelle Martinez (Ray) of Taos, Deanne Mares (Phillip) of Albuquerque, Barbara Apodaca (Darold Lujan) of Taos, Martin Raul Apodaca of Taos, Carla Garcia (Rick) of Taos. She is also survived by grandchildren, Joseph and Jamie Apodaca, Crystal and Isaac Valerio, Miguel, Andres and Tomas Martinez, Shane Apodaca, Brianna Lujan and Richard Garcia,, a special cousin Cecilia Jasper of Seattle, two special nieces E. Susan Linchevskey (Hanock) of Israel and Taos and Mary Alice Raskin (David) of Taos and her sisters, Rose Holland (John) of Taos and Martha Garland (Jerry) of Denver. She is survived by many relatives on the Apodaca side in Denver, CO. She attended grade school in Taos at the Central Catholic School and high school at Loretta Academy in Santa Fe. She also attended Boston College in Boston and Loretta Heights College in Denver. She married her husband of 45 years, Joseph and had her seven children while living in Denver, CO. She and her family returned to Taos in 1970 and ran the Rexall Drug Store for a number of years. She was a member of the Las Taosena club. She was also very active with her church. She was a Eucharistic Minister, Lector, member of the prayer group, choir and was always happy to serve God. She was the greatest wife, mother, grandmother and sister in the world to us.
Rosary was recited on Monday, November 21, 2005 at Our Lady of the Guadalupe Catholic Church. Funeral mass was held on Tuesday, November 22, 2005 at Our Lady of the Guadalupe Catholic Church. Burial was held at Sierra Vista cemetery.

John Maestas
John Maestas, 31, of Taos passed away unexpectedly on November 23, 2005. He was a graduate of Taos High School and worked as a sales representative for the Maloof Distributing Company. He is survived by his daughter Trinity Lynne Maestas, his parents, Benjamin and Ernesta Maestas of Taos, Henry and Susan Vigil of Santa Fe and Bea M. Vigil of Taos, his grandmother, Beatrice P. Vigil of Taos, his godmother, Diana V. Martinez of Taos, his brothers and sisters, Jennifer Kesner (Daniel), Jim Maestes, Alfonso Vigil, Marisa Vigil, Virginia Medina (Anthony) and Jayne Trujillo (Jimmie) and numerous uncles, aunts, cousins and friends.
A memorial service was held November 26, 2005 at the Rivera Chapel. There was a reception immediately following the memorial at the Taosena Restaurant.

Brooke Cottam
November 24, 2005
Thanksgiving afternoon, Brooke Cottam succumbed to Emphysema after a valiant fight for his life. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and the New Mexico National Guard. He had a full life in Taos as a dealer for Ford Motor Company. His love for sports, especially football and skiing was a passion throughout his life. In his community he served as fire chief for the Volunteer Fire Department and the ski patrol for Taos Ski Valley. He was an avid fly fisherman and spent many pleasurable hours in the mountains. He is survived by his wife Phoebe and his 3 sons, John Brooke Cottam (Barbara) of Taos, Jeffrey Harper Cottam (Bobby Gunther) of Palm Beach, FL and Timothy Louis Cottam (Barbara) of Angel Fire and 8 grandchildren.
A private memorial service will be held at a later date. Services by Rivera-Hanlon Funeral Home.

Ransome Erwin
, - November 26, 2005
R.W. Erwin died at the age of 93 on November 26, 2005. He and his wife, Barbara, were Taos residents since 1959. "Woody" was born in Ada, Oklahoma in 1912. He graduated from Oklahoma A & M University with a degree in Chemical Engineering. He worked in the oil and gas industry obtaining several patents during his career. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and the Taos Lions Club. He is survived by his daughter, Jan Dorris of Taos and grandsons, Eric Dorris of Steamboat Springs, CO and Tom Dorris of Ft. Worth, TX.
A memorial service will be held in Santa Anna, TX for both Barbara and Woody. Expressions of sympathy may be in the form of donations to the Stray Hearts Animal Shelter.

Juanita M. Cordova
, - November 27, 2005
Juanita "Shena" M. Cordova, 86, of Taos passed away on November 27, 2005. She is preceded in death by her husband, Melquiades Cordova on June 09, 1996, son, Phil Cordova on November 10, 1988 and daughter in law, Rose Mary Cordova on October 30, 1995. She is survived by children, Acorcinio Cordova (Amelia) of Albuquerque, Creselda Torres of Gilette, Wyoming, Clorinda Quintana (Celestino) of Arroyo Seco, Bertina Fernandez (Arsenio) of Taos, Leonela Rael (Isaac) of Albuquerque, Joseph Cordova (Phoebe) of Albuquerque, Elma Black (Edward) of Taos and Kenneth Cordova. She is also survived by 22 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren and numerous great great grandchildren.
An evening service was held on November 30, 2005 at Rivera Chapel. Funeral service was held on December 01, 2005 at Rivera Chapel. Iinterment followed at Arroyo Seco cemetery.

Luis Carlos Trevizo
November 27, 2005
Luis Carlos Trevizo, 45, of Ranchos de Taos passed away on November 27, 2005. He is survived by his wife, Betty Tafoya Trevizo, son, Sergio Trevizo of Denver, mother, Socorro Arvizo de Trevizo of Ranchos de Taos and father, Manuel Trevizo of Mexico. He is also survived by his brothers and sisters, Cesar Trevizo (Rose) of Taos, Sonya Cordova (Dennis) of Ranchos de Taos, Delia Lorta (Dario) of Mexico, Gloria Arvizo (Luis) and Efrain Arvizo all of Ranchos de Taos and niece, Valentina Arvizo.
Rosaries were recited on November 28, 2005 at Rivera Chapel and November 29, 2005 at San Francisco de Asis Catholic Church. Funeral mass wase held November 30, 2005 at San Francisco de Asis Church interment followed at Jesus Nazareno cemetery.

Agusta "Gussie" Sennett
Gussie Sennett, 91, of Taos passed away on November 29, 2005. She was born in Chicago, IL and raised two daughters, Barbara Gilkey of Central Point, Oregon and Sara Senet of Mora, NM. She was a classical pianist and gardener and head of the Los Angeles Mandolin Orchestra. Gussie was a political activist and a women's libber. She had a great sense of humor and was loved by many.
A private memorial service will be held at a future date. Arrangements by Rivera-Hanlon Funeral Home.

Eugenio Rael
November 30, 2005
Eugenio Rael, 91, of Taos and formerly of Questa passed away on November 30, 2005. He was an educator at the Questa school system and also taught veterans cabinet making after WWII. He was also a general contractor and later returned to his first love of making Spanish colonial furniture. He was an outstanding artisan and he has three pieces at the NM State Capital which include a banco and two armchairs. He is preceded in death by his first wife, Cecilia Cisneros Rael, son, Bobby Rael, brothers, Moises, Juan Benito, Elirio and Malaquias Rael, granddaughter, Loretta Valdez. He is survived by his wife, Cecilia Vigil Rael, children, Anita Valdez, Dianna Rael-Apodaca (Leroy), Martha Rael Nimon (Manuel), Jean Rael, Ruben Rael (Patricia), stepchildren, Diana Candelaria, Frances Montoya (Eloyed), David Fresquez (Rita), sisters, Priscilla Galliour (John) and Lila Rodriquez (Bialquin), 20 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren and many other relatives.
Rosary will be recited on Friday, December 02, 2005 at 7 PM at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Questa. Funeral mass will be held on Saturday, December 03, 2005 at 11 AM at St. Anthony Church with interment to follow at San Pedro cemetery.

Johnny L. Vigil
, - December 3, 2005
Johnny L. Vigil, 59, of Cerro passed away on December 03, 2005. He is preceded in death by his parents, Ismael and Orelia Vigil and brother, Paul vigil. He is survived by his sisters and brothers, Lorraine Segura, Pauline Cisneros, Carmen Barela, Helen Bailon, Wilfred Vigil, Jane Aragon, Virginia Herrera, Robert Vigil, Floyd, Lupe, Jerry, Judy, and Gene Vigil, Juanita Mendez, Flora Montoya and many other relatives.
Gathering of family and friends was held on Wednesday, December 07, 2005 at the Questa parish. Interment was held at San Pedro cemetery.

Barbara Ann Rodriguez
, - December 4, 2005
Barbara Ann Rodriguez, 61, of Taos passed away on December 04, 2005. She was an artist and mayordoma of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. She is survived by her husband of 43 years, Joseph Rodriguez, son, Joseph L. Rodriguez (Annabell) of Taos, daughter, Laurie Wendt (Dale) of Albuquerque, 6 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren, brother, Leonard Powell (Karen) of Bakersfield, California and sister, Rose Marie Hunt of Hawaii.
Rosary was recited on Tuesday, December 06, 2005 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Funeral mass was held on Wednesday, December 07, 2005at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church. Interment was held at Pacheco cemetery.

Katherine Mares
December 5, 2005
Katherine "Katie" Mares, 48, of Taos passed away on December 04, 2005. She is preceded in death by her mother, Isabel Valerio and brother, Robert Lee Valerio. She is survived by her sons, Brian and Eric Mares, father, Eppie Valerio, sister, Diana McMains, her companion, Chris Maes, granddaughter, Valerie Mares and many other relatives.
Memorial service was held on Wednesday, December 07, 2005 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church.

Randy Gary Medina
December 5, 2005
Randy Gary Medina, 13, of Ranchos de Taos passed away unexpectedly on December 05, 2005. He is survived by his father, Gary Medina (Kondru), mother, Yevette Maul (Anthony), brothers and sister, Gary Medina Jr., Michael and Alyssa Maul, grandparents, Mary Ann and Stanley Saiz, Anthony Jeantette, Carmen Medina and Beatrice Medina. He is also survived by his great grandmother, Sally Trujillo, step grandmother, Corina Saiz, uncles and aunts, Jovan Jeantete (Isaac Martinez), Anthony Jeantete Jr. (Carla), Eric Jeantete (Erica), Denise Jeantete, Arnold Trujillo (Vanessa), Rick Medina (Renee), Manda Medina, Brandon Medina, Isaac Martinez, Gabriel Gomez (Sonya), Terry Torres (Manuel), Loretta Trujillo (Alfonso Vigil), Stacey Saiz (Frances) and many other relatives.
Rosary was recited on Thursday, December 08, 2005 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Funeral mass was held on Friday, December 09, 2005 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church. Interment was held at Dolores cemetery.

Eloisa Garcia
, - December 6, 2005
Eloisa Garcia, 66, of Arroyo Seco passed away on December 06, 2005. She is preceded in death by her father, Ambrosio Madrid and brother, Leo Madrid. She is survived by her husband, Cloro Garcia, children, Cleo Fernandez (Chris), Bobby Garcia (Angela), Rick Garcia (Carla), Matthew Garcia and mother, Maria de La Paz Madrid. She is also survived by grandchildren, Vicente, Eddie, Richard and Santos, sisters, Rose Martinez (Ruben), Elvira Garcia (Fidel), Olivia Rendon (George), brother, Frank Madrid (Mary), many nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Rosary was recited on Friday, December 09, 2005 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Arroyo Seco. Funeral mass was held on Saturday, December 10, 2005 at Holy Trinity Church. Interment was held at Arroyo Seco cemetery.

Alfonso Rael
December 14, 2005
Alfonso Rael, 87, of Questa, passed away on December 14, 2005. He was retired from Asarco Copper Mine in Silver Bell, AZ. He was a Peregrino and member of St. Anthony's Church. He is preceded in death by his parents, Jose Antonio and Stella Rael, brothers, Jacobo, Rudolfo and Fred Rael and brother-in-law Louis Ortiz. He is survived by his wife, Cora Rael, children, Anthony Rael (Margarita) of Tucson, AZ, Patsy Wallace (Lynn) of Belen, Dianna Rael Trujillo (Stephen) of Taos, Selimo Rael (Kathy) of Santa Fe, sisters, Eva Gallegos (Chris) of Questa, Eufelia Ortiz and her late husband Louis, brothers, Ben Rael (Evangeline) of Taos, Gustavo Rael (Aurora) of Questa, Jose Redolio Rael of Questa and 13 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.
A Wake service by Deacon Felimon Rael and a Rosary by the Peregrinos was held on Friday, December 16, 2005 at St. Anthony's Church in Questa. Funeral Mass was held on Saturday, December 17, 2005 at St. Anthony's Church. Interment was held at San Pedro cemetery. In leau of flowers please send donations to St. Anthony's Parish in Questa.
