JOEL MATTHEW HESCH, 25, of Orlando, Fla., died suddenly Friday.. He attended Los Alamos High School. He earned an associate's degree from the New Mexico Military Institute in Roswell and a Bachelor of Science degree from Eastern New Mexico University in Portales and Florida International University and resided in the Honors Towers while a student in Miami, Fla. He was a designer and woodworker. He had received two promotions within the last 14 months at the company he worked for in Orlando, Fla. He was a talented songwriter, singer, artist and poet. He often performed with his guitar on campus. He was a favorite counselor among the young campers at Camp Watitoh in Center Lake Becket, Mass., where he was a summer camp counselor for two summers. He spent two summers in Spain, and worked one summer at Yellowstone National Park and one summer at Lake Powell, Utah. He attended L'Abri Christian Fellowship in Rochester, Minn. He was an alumnus of Outward Bound School and a past member of Explorer Post 21 in Los Alamos. He was a skilled chess player. He was a multifaceted individual with many interests. He is survived by his father, Stephen Hesch; mother, Syndi Baca Hesch; brother, Joshua Hesch, all of Los Alamos; and fiancée Kristen Mc Neil of Orlando, Fla. Mass will be celebrated at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church of Los Alamos. In lieu of flowers, send contributions to the New Mexico Military Institute in Roswell, where a scholarship fund will be established in the name of Joel Matthew Hesch. JOSE T. MADRID, 69, of Tecolotito died Sunday at Northeastern Regional Hospital. He was born in Tecolotito. He married Maria Antonia Urioste in 1954 in Las Vegas, N.M. He was a rancher who loved ranching, gardening, landscaping, playing music and spending time with his family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ramon Donato and Maria Mercedes Madrid; and sister, Deluvina Encinias. He is survived by his wife, Maria Antonia Madrid of the family home in Tecolotito; children, Lorraine Matta and husband Jessie, Ramon Madrid and wife Erma, Zenaida Madrid, Donaciano Madrid and wife Antonia, Jose Tobias Madrid Jr., and Eric Madrid, all of Tecolotito, and Elizabeth Matta and husband Mike of Amarillo, Texas; 12 grandchildren; brothers, Salomon Madrid and wife Aurelia, and Juan Madrid and wife Abelina, all of Muleshoe, Texas; sister, Frances Madrid of Tucumcari; and many other relatives and friends. A prayer service will be held at 7 p.m. today at the Tecolotito Church. A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Upper Anton Chico Cemetery with burial to follow. FRANCES TWIFORD MOTTOLA, 76, of Santa Fe died Sunday. She was born in North Carolina. She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles Burton and Patricia Twiford; husband, Wesson Mottola; and five sisters. She is survived by her son, Richard Maslak; sister, Doris White and husband Tom; devoted friend, Charlotte Whited; and many other relatives and friends. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at McGee Memorial Chapel with burial to follow at Santa Fe National Cemetery. JOHN SANCHEZ, 80, of Questa died Monday. He was preceded in death by his wife, Viola L. Sanchez; son, Ronnie Sanchez; parents; eight brothers; and three sisters. He is survived by his children, Steve I. Sanchez and wife MaryAnn, Gary Sanchez and wife Maxine, Arlene Sanchez, Geraldine Cordova and husband Edwin, Shane Sanchez, all of Questa, John H. Sanchez and wife Maida of Anthony, Annette Medina and husband Fernando of Ranchos de Taos, Raynelle Trujillo and husband John of Llano Quemado; brother, Benito Sanchez of Cerro; 15 grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends. GISELLA SEKLER, 90, of Santa Fe died Monday.
She was a resident of El Castillo Retirement Residences.
She married Alex Sekler in Chicago in 1946. She was preceded in death by her husband, Alex Sekler.

LOUISA A. ARAGON, 85, of Trujillo died Monday at Northeastern Regional Hospital.
She was a member of Our Lady of Sorrows Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Matias Aragon. She is survived by her son, Jimmy Aragon and wife Dora of Littlerock, Calif.; daughter, Tomasita Romero of Las Vegas, N.M.; sisters, Lydia Cordova and husband Fred and Antonia Yara, all of Las Vegas, N.M., Corina Gutierrez of Pueblo, Colo., and Rosalito Gutierrez of Maker, Colo.; six grandchildren; and many other relatives. ARABELLA M. GONZALES, 75, of Las Vegas, N.M., died Tuesday after an extended illness. She was born in Montezuma. She was a homemaker who raised six children and loved to cook, bake and read. She was a member of the Foster Grandparents. She was preceded in death by her parents, Pedro Romero and Tomasita Martinez Romero; and sisters, Anne Sisneros and Teresita de Jesus Romero. She is survived by her sons, Tony Sisneros and wife Terese of Laraime, Wyo., Albert Gonzales and partner Bea Valdez, Abel Gonzales and wife Merlyn; daughter, Tomasita Baca and husband Casey; sons, John Gonzales and Joseph Gonzales, all of Las Vegas, N.M.; 14 grandchildren; sister, Cora Coca of Laraime, Wyo.; and many other relatives and friends. ISAAC I. GONZALES of Taos died Monday. He was president of the First State Bank of Taos. He was preceded in death by his parents, Isaac and Carmen Gonzales; and grandparents who raised him, Castulita and Salamon Cisneros. He is survived by his wife, Erlinda Gonzales; children, Mark Gonzales and wife Carmela, Andrew Gonzales and wife Roberta and Francine Gonzales; three grandchildren; sister, Martha Chacon and husband Celso; brothers, Felix Fernando Gonzales, Emilio Gonzales and wife Gloria, and Jimmy Gonzales; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Eufelio and Adonelia Sanchez; and many other relatives. JACK CRUZ HOPKINS SR. of Santa Fe died Tuesday after a short illness. He was born in 1924 in Castle Gate, Utah. At a young age he moved to Taos Pueblo with his mother, American Indian artist Pop Chalee (Merina Lujan) and father Otis Hopkins. Later, they moved to Santa Fe, where he enrolled at the Santa Fe Indian School and graduated from Santa Fe High School. He attended George Peabody College in Nashville, Tenn. He was an avid aviator and received his commercial pilot's license at the age of 17, joining the Army Air Corps in 1943. He qualified as a pilot for both fighter aircraft and multiengine B24 and B29 bombers. His last station in the Army Air Corps was in Colorado Springs as a member of what is now known as the Strategic Air Command. He was employed as a senior manager for the Zia Company for the Los Alamos National Laboratory, where previously his father was a machinist with the Manhattan Project. He was an accomplished jewelry artist, having won acclaim and awards from the Hurd Museum, the Gallup Indian Ceremonial. He showed his work locally at Packard's on the Plaza and nationally through commissions for Neiman Marcus. He is survived by his wife, Gerry Taylor Hopkins; sons, Jack Cruz Jr. and Antonio; two grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends. A celebration of life will be announced at a later date. CARMEL "MEL" ROMERO, 94, of Nambé died Tuesday. He was the owner and operator of the Adobe Club in Pojoaque for many years. He was preceded in death by his wife, Juanita Romero. He is survived by his children, Lorraine Montoya and husband Ben, Bennie Trujillo and husband Willie, Gwendolyn Romero and husband Peter and Eloy and Vangie Herrera, all of Pojoaque, Tillie Garcia and husband Johnny of Cañoncito, Mary Ann Griego, David Romero and wife Luggie, Mino Romero and wife Agnes, Carmen Herrera and husband Frutoso, Sophia Howard and husband Harry, Sam Romero and wife Cristina, all of Nambé; 31 grandchildren; brother, Delfino Romero and wife Ruth; sister, Frances and husband Medardo; and many other relatives and friends. A visitation will be held at 6 p.m. today with a rosary to be recited at 7 p.m. at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Nambé. Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday at the same church with burial to follow at the Nambé Catholic Church.

MARGIE GORDON, 74, of Fairview died Wednesday.
She is preceded in death by her father, Marcelino Jaramillo; sisters, Meta, Lorraine and Rosie; brothers, Louie and Tommy. Margie was a loving devoted wife, mother and grandmother and was married for 48 years. She loved to work in her garden with all her roses and flowers. She had a great sense of humor with all her joking and loved traveling with her beloved husband. Margie is survived by her husband Bill "Sonny" Gordon of Fairview; mother, Erminia Jaramillo of Echo Park, Calif.; sons, Felix Paredes and wife Barbara and Richard Paredes and wife Alice all of Gallup, N.M., Ernest Paredes and wife Peggi of Higley, Ariz., William W. Gordon and wife Barbara of Magdalena, Robert Gordon and wife Larisa of Española and Steven W. Gordon and wife Natalia of Las Cruces; daughter, Veronica Hennigh and husband Lonnie of Tierra Amarilla; sisters, Molly Jaramillo of Milan, N.M., and Julie Loo of Echo Park, Calif.; 20 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
