Anita Weighall

Anita Weighall, age 85, died Nov. 15, 2003, at the Highland Manor in Elko. She was born Oct. 18, 1918, at Tuscarora to Andres and Lorenza Ynchausti. She was reared at Jack Creek. She went to school at Jack Creek and the Spanish Ranch.

She married Ellis Weighall Sept. 10, 1940, and moved to Rio Tinto where Ellis worked until the mine closed in 1947. They then moved to the Petan Company ranches where Ellis worked until 1951, when they moved to Elko.

Anita was preceded in death by her husband, Ellis, in 1979; her father, Andres; her mother, Lorenza; her sister, Neva; and her brothers, Andres and Tony.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Judy and Phil Simon; her sister-in-law, Alice Ynchausti; and nephew, John Ynchausti, as well as numerous members of the Weighall family.

She will be remembered for the loving care she gave to her husband in the last years of his life, as well as being fiercely independent.

Funeral services are scheduled for Thursday, Nov. 20, 2003, at 11 p.m. at Burns Funeral Home Chapel with Deacon Craig LaGier of St. Joseph's Catholic Church officiating.

Thank you to Dr. Hogle, the Elko Clinic, Northeastern Nevada Regional Hospital and Highland Manor for their wonderful care of Anita.

Benita Gorostiza Jayo

Benita Gorostiza Jayo died Thursday, Nov. 13, 2003. She was 95.

Mrs. Jayo was born in Jemein, Spain, on July 13, 1908, the seventh child of Eulogio and Benita Askorbebeitia Gorostiza. Shortly after, Benita and her family moved to Guernica, Spain, where she lived until she immigrated to the United States about 1925.

On Dec. 26, 1927, she married Santos (Sam) Jayo in Elko, Nev. They moved from Reiptown to Ely in 1941 where she lived the remainder of her life.

Mrs. Jayo was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Our Lady of the Snows Guild, and a charter member of the Ely Basque Club.

She was preceded in death by her husband, five sisters and one brother.

She is survived by two sons, Julian (Wanda) Jayo, of Elko and Tom (Rosie) Jayo of Gilbert, Ariz.; and daughter, Margaret (Dick) Cooper, of McGill. She leaves eight grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren; an older brother, Juanito and spouse of Guernica, Spain; sister-in-law, Mary Etcheberry, of Elko; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Recitation of the rosary was held Monday, Nov. 17, at 7:30 p.m. at Mountain Vista Chapel. The Mass of Christian Burial was held Tuesday, Nov. 18, at 11 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church with Father Phil Audet officiating. Burial followed in the Ely City Cemetery.

The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made to Home Health Services of Nevada, c/o Marie Carrick, 685 Lyons Ave., Ely, NV 89301.

Pallbearers include: Juan Jayo, Terry Jayo, Thomas Jayo, Michael Jayo, Stan Cooper, Mark Cooper, Brad Wiggleworth, Wes Walker and Brian Preble.

Honorary pallbearers: Emma Gomez, Betty Mariluch, Marie Ordoqui, Burnice Robison, Josephine and Ray Urrizaga.

Russell James Cox

Russell James Cox died at his home Tuesday, Nov. 18, 2003, in Elko, Nev.

No services are scheduled. Cremation is under the direction of Burns Funeral Home in Elko, Nev.

Sandy 'Bud' Harlan

In loving memory of Sandy "Bud" Harlan, a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend to many, passed away at his home in Lamoille, Nev., on Nov. 28, 2003, after a long illness.

Bud was born April 22, 1950, to Robert and Helen Harlan in Boise, Idaho, and spent the majority of his childhood there, later moving to Carson City, Nev., where he established his electrical contracting business which he relocated to Lamoille, Nev., in 1994. He met and married Connie Friberg and they enjoyed more than 14 years of marriage. The have one son, C.J. Harlan.

Bud was an asset to the community. Between him, Connie, and C.J., they owned and operated A-Nevada Electric and Tele. Inc. Bud was also involved in many extracurricular activities such as the Hornet Squad at Spring Creek Middle School, Boy Scouts and 4-H shooting sports. He was the vicepresident of the Experimental Aircraft Association in 2000 and also helped with Skyfair. Bud loved spending time with family and friends. His first love of the outdoors was flying his Ultra Light. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, and all outdoor activities.

He is survived by his wife, Connie; sons, C.J. and Jason (Charmaine); daughters, Marcy (Jerry) David and Sara (Jeff) Harlan-Dobson; granddaughters, Ashly, and Robyn David; father, Robert; two brothers, Stuart and Scott; and three sisters, Vicki, Patty, and Jackie; and many nieces and nephews; extended family members and friends too numerous to list. He will be tremendously missed by all and holds a very special place in our hearts.

He has joined in heaven his mother, Helen Gallangher, and two brothers, Bob and Milt.

Bud's memorial will be on Thursday at 2 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Calvary Baptist Church.

Robert Jacob Sikorski

Robert Jacob Sikorski, age 49, went to be with the Lord Jesus Christ on Thursday, Nov. 27, 2003. He passed away suddenly and unexpectedly on Thanksgiving evening, after having spent a wonderful day with his family.

Robert was born in Saginaw, Mich., on Nov. 12, 1954. His family later moved to the Reno/Tahoe area where he graduated from Truckee High School in 1968. He later received an associate of arts degree in computer programming from a community college in Spokane, Wash. Robert married his wife, Shirley, on March 28, 1986, in Elko, Nev. Robert worked at various hotel casinos in Nevada and as an aide and tutor at Truckee Meadows Community College and for a short time at Great Basin College. Robert spent the last few years taking care of his father-in-law around the clock. Robert enjoyed working with computers, helping out at his church and spending time with his grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and leaves behind his wife, Shirley Sikorski, of Elko; a son, Jason Sikorski, serving in the U.S. Marine Corps; a brother, Jim Sikorski, of Nashville, Tenn.; three sisters, Maxine Glasson, of Lake Tahoe, Lori Mashburn of Virginia City and Linda Slater of Tampa, Fla.; stepdaughters, Cheryl Walkup, of Spring Creek and Mary Hernandez of Winnemucca; stepsons, John Custer of Nampa, Idaho, Dan Custer of Spring Creek; and seven grandchildren with another on the way.

A memorial service will be held at Elko Assembly of God Church, Tuesday, Dec. 2, 2003, at 2 p.m.
