Homer Woods
A memorial service for Homer A. Woods, 82, who died Dec. 14 in Las Vegas, will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the Pahrump Community Church.
He was born Aug. 11, 1921 in Brackenridge, Pa., and was a resident of Pahrump for over 40 years.
Art and his brothers enlisted in the U.S. Navy on Dec. 8, 1941, the day after Pearl Harbor. He re-enlisted June 10, 1951 and fought during the Korean War.
He worked at the Nevada Test Site until his retirement in 1973, and was a lifetime member of the Operating Engineers Local 12.
His passions were his family, baseball, Nascar, golf and music. He was happily involved with his kids and grandchildren every day. He was loved and respected by his friends and family and will be missed very much.
His wife of 60 years, Eleanore M. Woods, of Pahrump; sons Homer Arthur Woods Jr., "Buzz," and Bobby Woods, both of Pahrump; daughters Judith A. Woods Owens of Yucaipa, Calif., and Carol J. Woods of Pahrump; brothers Robert W. Woods of Pahrump and Jerry Woods of Fontana, Calif.; sister Kathleen Patrick of Pahrump; six grandchildren; and four great grandchildren survive him.
His sister Carol Jeanne Woods Medlock preceded him in death.

Luther Owsley
Services were held in Missouri for Luther Woodford Owsley, 85, who died Dec. 1 at the Christian Health Care Center in Hermitage, Mo.
He was born May 21, 1918 in Cross Timbers, Mo., and was a resident of Pahrump from 1965 to 1982.
He worked as a miner welder at the Nevada Test Site under contractor Reynolds Electric.
His wife Juanita of Hermitage; daughter Linda Lou (Mike) McIlraith of Pahrump; seven grandchildren; and 14 great grandchildren survive him.
Two sons, Jimmy Dale and Woodford Leroy, preceded him in death. (12/1/03)
Joann Johnson
A memorial service for Joann Johnson, 70, who died Dec. 10 in Pahrump, will be held at 7 p.m. today at the Pahrump Elks Lodge.
She was born Aug. 28, 1933 in Omaha, Neb., and was a 35-year resident of Pahrump.
She worked as a dietician in a hospital before retiring, and was a member of BPOE Elks Lodge 2796, Women of the Moose Red Rock Lodge 862 and the Ladies Auxiliary of VFW Lodge 10054.
Her daughters Vonnie Day Johnson, Cindy Rae Webster and Jolene Kay Sells, all of Las Vegas; brother Edward D. Miller of Omaha; sister Juanita M. Kastelic of Pahrump; seven grandchildren and two great grandchildren survive her.

Charles Brown
No services will be held for Charles Jack Brown, 78, who died Dec. 11 in Pahrump.
He was born May 25, 1925 in Purdy, Mo. and was a 10-year resident of Pahrump, coming from Idaho.
He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and then worked in the mining and construction industries.
He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans and was of the Christian faith.
His daughters Teresa Nelson, Jenifer Scott and Valerie Phelan, all of Boise, and Christi (Steven) Jackson of Moscow, Idaho; seven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren survive him.
His parents, Charles Earl and Ida Brown, preceded him in death.

Mary Miller
Services have been held for Mary Louise Miller, 62, who died Dec. 9 in Las Vegas.
She was born June 24, 1941 in Los Angeles, and was a resident of Pahrump since February, coming from California.
She was a homemaker and of the Catholic faith.
Her husband Frank of Pahrump; sons Joe Bigay and Robert Miller, both of Pahrump; daughters Bridget Bonetti and Jacquline Miller, both of Pahrump, and Melissa Scott of California; brothers Richard Garcia and Arthur Garcia, both of California; and five grandchildren survive her.

Vivian Hackney
Private family services have been held for Vivian Gail Hackney, 85, who died Dec. 10 in Pahrump.
She was born March 23, 1918 in Kentucky and worked as a waitress before retiring.
Her niece Tracee Hashimura of Las Vegas; and brothers Gordon Hackney, Paul Hackney, George Hackney and Roger Hackney, all of Texas, survive her.

Roland Forant
Services for Roland Forant, 90, who died Dec. 13 in Pahrump, will be held at 1:30 p.m. today at Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church. Interment will follow at 3 p.m. at Chief Tecopa cemetery.
He was born Aug. 23, 1913 in Rhode Island and was a 24-year resident of Pahrump.
He served in the U.S. Army and then worked as a carpenter.
He was a member of Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church.
His wife Doris Smith of Pahrump; daughter Pauline Ball of New Hampshire; son David Forant of Massachusetts; seven grandchildren; and nine great grandchildren survive him.

Richard Heinz
Visitation for Richard Heinz, 68, who died Dec. 21 in Las Vegas, will be held from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Pahrump Family Mortuary. Funeral services will be held at Grandview cemetery at 11 a.m. Saturday with Father Bruno presiding.
He was born Oct. 30, 1935 in Peoria, Ill., and moved to Pahrump five years ago.
He served in the U.S. Air Force Reserves and last worked at Caterpillar World Headquarters in Peoria before retiring.
He was a member of American Legion Post No. 2, Knights of Columbus No. 4333, and the Pilots Association EAA. He was an active member of the Pahrump Gunfighters and a partner in "The Old Dogs" karaoke in Pahrump. He was of the Catholic faith.
His wife Geneva of Pahrump; daughters Anastocia Julie Lynn Heinz (Kevin) Adcock of Texas and Rebecca Lynn (Vernon) Bennett of Illinois; sons Curtis (Paula) Reed of Las Vegas, Steven Souza of Nevada, and three sons in Arkansas; four grandchildren; and two great grandchildren survive him.
His parents, one daughter and one brother preceded him in death.

Marshall Thrasher
Private family services will be held for Marshall Dodd Thrasher, 62, who died Dec. 18 in Las Vegas.
He was born March 12, 1941 in Ohio, and was a resident of Pahrump and a former resident of Kentucky.
He worked as a journeyman electrician for a hotel. He was a member of the GPPAA and his hobby was gold prospecting.
His wife Patricia of Pahrump; mother Emma Marie Thrasher of Ohio; son John Henry Thrasher of Missouri; daughters Elizabeth Barnhill and Michelle Moses, both of Kentucky; brothers Marvin Thrasher of Indiana and Donald Thrasher of Florida; sisters Linda and Pamela Robinson; 25 grandchildren; and eight great grandchildren survive him.

Patricia Haan
Graveside services for Patricia (Pat) Haan, 85, who died Nov. 12 in North Las Vegas, will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Grandview cemetery, with Pastor Bob Lewis officiating.
She was born Aug. 19, 1918 in Worley, N.C. to James Caney Rector and Tennie Sams Rector. She lived in Pahrump for 15 years before entering health care facilities.
Her son James (Peggy) Kirkpatrick of Sedro Woolley, Wash.; sisters Betty Wilder of Pineville, Kent., Glenda Corey of Middleboro, Kent., Hazel Fulton and Thelma Davison, both of Goshen, Ohio; three grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; six great grandchildren; one step-great grandson; and special friends Leo Roush and Betty Bieganski of Pahrump survive her.
A son, Charles Hunter Kirkpatrick, preceded her in death.
