Annie 'Angelina' Tomera
Annie "Angelina" Tomera, 81, a lifelong resident of the Elko area, died Dec. 1, 2003, at Northeastern Nevada Regional Hospital of natural causes. She was born May 3, 1922, in Carlin, Nev., to Emilio and Guglielma Frediani Micheli. She enjoyed cooking and being a homemaker.
Survivors include daughters, Lois (and Charles) Bispo of Spring Creek, Nev.; JoAnn Rood of Ridle, Idaho; brothers, Frank, Mario, and Billy all of Carlin, Nev.; and Louie of Wells, Nev.; sisters, Alicia of Klamath Falls, Ore.; Jeanie and Joann of Carlin, Nev.; Rosie of Gilbert, Ariz.; and Gloria of Wells, Nev.; four grandchildren, Donnie Rood, of Boise, Idaho; John (and April) Rood of Nampa, Idaho; Chuck (and Debbie) Bispo of Austin, Nev.; and Sri Galindo of Boise, Idaho; five great-grandchildren, A.J. and Shayla Rood; Charlie and Corrie Bispo; and Alia Galindo.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and her husband.
Funeral services are scheduled for Friday, Dec. 5, 2003, at 2 p.m. at Burns Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in Burns Memorial Garden.
In her memory, donations may be made to the Tree of Life, c/o Northeastern Nevada Regional Hospital or to the charity of the donor's choice.
Burns Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Pearl Madgelene Banks
Pearl Madgelene Banks, 97, died Dec. 13, 2003, at Highland Manor in Elko. She was born May 21, 1906, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to William and Anna Thornton.
She was a longtime resident of Elko coming from Salt Lake City in March of 1929. She enjoyed cooking and being a homemaker. She married Rollin L. Banks Sept. 8, 1928, in Salt Lake City.
Survivors include daughter, Wanda Trappett, of Elko; five granddaughters, 12 great-grandchildren and 12 great-great-grandchildren. Also a daughter-in-law, JoAnn Banks.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Rollin L. Banks, on June 7, 1965; two sons, Jack and Huck, and two grandchildren, Barry Banks and Gail Trappett.
She was a "grandmother" to many children in the neighborhood.
Funeral services are scheduled for Friday, Dec. 19, 2003, at 11 a.m. at Burns Funeral Home. Services will be conducted by President John Patton of the LDS East Stake.
In her memory, donations may be made to the Shriners Hospital at Fairfax Road and Virginia St., Salt Lake City, Utah 84103 or to the charity of the donor's choice.
Burial will be in the Elko City Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Burns Funeral Home.
Bobby Gene Whitlock
Bobby Gene Whitlock, 64, of Twin Falls, Idaho, and Carlin, Nev., died Sunday, Feb. 8, 2004, at SunBridge Care & Rehabilitation Center, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born Dec. 1, 1939, in Salinas, Calif., the son of James and Vera Jones Whitlock. His parents moved extensively while he was young so he had lived in Idaho, California and Nevada, but completed his schooling in Twin Falls.
He married Linda Clifford on Aug. 31, 1957, in Twin Falls, and they were later divorced. He married Patricia O'Connor Thompson on March 4, 1981, in New Orleans, La.
Bobby worked for Haney Seed Co. in Twin Falls for many years, and later was manager of the Haney Seed Plant in Glenns Ferry from 1974-1981. He later was manager of Redi Spuds in Glenns Ferry. He built starting gates for horse racing for a time in Phoenix, Ariz., worked at Amalgamated Sugar Factory in Twin Falls, worked for Newmont Mining Co. in Carlin, Nev., for 12 years until in 2000. From 2000 until 2003 he worked in heavy construction in California. While residing in Glenns Ferry he served as a city councilman for 10 years.
Bobby loved riding motorcycles, snowmobiles, rebuilding old cars, racing cars, drag racing and anything to do with cars. He was an exceptional mechanic, capable of fixing anything.
He was a member of the Catholic Church, the Twin Falls Lodge #1182, BPOE, the Moose Lodge, and the Operating Engineers Local #3.
Bobby is survived by his wife, Patricia of Carlin; four children, Denise (Doug) King of King Hill, Idaho, Bobby Gene (Sheryl) Whitlock, Jr. "Butch" of Twin Falls, Stephanie Nab of Gooding, Idaho, and Maureen (Steve) Miley of Boise; seven grandchildren, Jamie (Matt) Springer, Richard King II, Amanda King, Jennifer King, Carlie Assel, Stephanie McConkie and Bobbie Jean Whitlock; one great-grandchild, Taylor Morgan Springer; and by one sister, Frances Blackwell of Glenns Ferry, Idaho.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother. Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Monday at White Mortuary, "Chapel by the Park." Friends may call at White Mortuary Sunday from 4: to 8: p.m. Entombment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park Mausoleum.

Vernon Morris Scott
Jan. 31, 1915 - Feb. 7, 2004
Beloved husband, father and grandfather, was born to John W. Scott and Gertrude Linebarger on Jan. 31, 1915, in Carlin, Nev. He passed away on Feb. 7, 2004, in Reno, Nev. He married Ethel Beaudreau in Fallon, Nev., on July 6, 1938.
He is survived by his wife, Ethel; two daughters, Leanne Berry of Carlin and Tina Anderson of Jerome, Idaho; seven grandchildren, Shawn of Las Vegas, Nev., David of Carlin, Victoria of Kona, Hawaii, Michael of Las Vegas, Alicia of Boise, Idaho, Ralph Jr of Jerome, Idaho, Patricia of Twin Falls, Idaho; two great-granddaughters, Samantha of Jerome and Charity of Twin Falls; two sisters, Velma Gordon and Betty Simpkins both of Carlin.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Ronnie; and two brothers, Ralph and Roy.
He was educated in Carlin and attended the University of Nevada, Reno, and the University in Logan, Utah.
He was owner of Scott's Grocery in Carlin for many years. He worked for Southern Pacific Railroad as a brakeman during World War II from 1942 - 1944. Vernon served on Carlin City Council from June 1979 to July 1985 and was a member of the board of directors of Wells Rural Electric for many years. He was a member of the Masons, Odd Fellows, Carlin Lions Club and the Carlin Riding Club. He was very community oriented through the years and will be missed by his many friends. He was loved by all.
Services will be at the LDS Church in Carlin, Nev., on Saturday the 14th at 2 p.m. Burial will be at a later date.
Vernon's wish was to have contributions given in his name to a scholarship fund in his name, Methodist Church or the Senior Citizen Center in Carlin.
