Robert Haynes

A memorial service for Robert William Haynes, 44, who died March 18 in Pahrump, will be held at noon Saturday at Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church.

He was born Nov. 12, 1958 in Santa Cruz, Calif. and moved to Pahrump in 1992, coming from Henderson.

His mother Joy Crang of Pahrump; brothers Jack (Debbie) Haynes and Fred Crang, both of Las Vegas; sisters Cindy (Stan) Jones of Las Vegas, Shannon (Mark) Fry of Boise, Idaho, Michelle Crang and Patricia (Rod) Jefferies, both of McCall, Idaho, survive him.

Neptune Society of Nye County handled the arrangements. (3/18/04)

Ralph Allen

A memorial service for Ralph D. Allen, 78, who died March 10 in Las Vegas, will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Pahrump Family Mortuary.

He was born July 11, 1925 in Minnesota and was a resident of Pahrump since 1993, coming from Arizona.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, and then worked as a machinist.

He was a member of the VFW and Disabled American Veterans and was of the Protestant faith.

His daughters Linda Allen of Pahrump and Sharon Allen of Washington; brothers Duane Allen of Washington and Lyle Allen of Arizona; sister Nilia Wisinberger of Washington; and two grandchildren survive him.

Tyson Herndon

Graveside services for Tyson Zane Herndon, infant, who died March 17 in Las Vegas, will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Grandview cemetery.

He was born March 17, 2004 in Las Vegas.

His father Jacob David Herndon and mother Casi Jo Richards of Pahrump; grandparents Diane Herndon, Jim Herndon, Sandra Knapp and Steve Moody, all of Pahrump, survive him.

Ruth Gaskins

Private family services will be held for Ruth Gaskins, 96, who died March 20 in Pahrump.

She was born April 26, 1907 in Rolla, Mo., and was a resident of Pahrump for five years, coming from Rolla.

She worked as a nurse until retiring in 1975, and was of the Episcopal faith.

Her daughter Susan (Matt) Talbert of Pahrump; son Robert Stevens of Indiana; sister Eva Cottingham of Missouri; two grandchildren; and five great grandchildren survive her.

Robert Gaskins preceded her in death.

Melody and Devon Hinson

Services for Melody Marie Hinson, 2, and Devon Ray Hinson, 18 months, who died March 13 in Pahrump, will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at Neptune Society of Nye County, with Pastor Dick Bauer presiding.

Melody was born May 22, 2001 in Las Vegas. She won a baby contest in Pahrump for most photogenic in 2002.

Devon was born August 6, 2002 in Las Vegas. He won an award in a baby contest in Pahrump for most beautiful eyes in 2002.

Their father Tommy Thayer; mother Holly Hinson; grandparents Alice and Larry Hinson of Pahrump; Sue Levra of Nevada; and Donald Thayer of Texas; brother Tyler Thayer of Pahrump; sisters Angela Thayer and Christy Thayer, both of Texas, Michelle Ross of Alaska, and Ariel Hinson of Nevada, survive them.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Fire Fund account at Bank of America, account No. 0049-6641-3960.

Dylan Metzger

A memorial service for Dylan Reneé Metzger, 3 months, 7 days old, who died March 20 in Pahrump, will be held at noon Saturday at the Calvada Duck Ponds.

She was born Dec. 13, 2003 at mile marker 25 on Highway 160.

Her parents Jonathan and Kristina Metzger of Pahrump; grandparents Beth Metzger, Robert Metzger, Joyce Ward, Brian Ward, all of Pahrump, and Fern Ward of Las Vegas; brother Jayden Metcalf; and uncle Harry Means, survive her.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to firstcandle.org, SIDS National Foundation, in Dylan's name.

Bert Gray

No services will be held for Hubert "Bert" C. Gray, II, 60, who died March 7.

He was born in 1943 in Burlington, N.C., and lived there and in the surrounding area for 27 years. He moved to Nevada around 1970; he lived in Fallon, where his father lived, and also for a short time in Gabbs. He met and married his wife Karen in Fallon in 1975 and they moved to Beatty that same year.

Bert retired in Nov. 2003 from the Nevada State Brand Division after 28 years as a brand inspector. He previously retired in 1992 from the Nevada Division of Radiological Health as a radiological health inspector. During his tenure with the Radiological Health Division he was stationed at the U.S. (American) Ecology low-level waste site near Beatty. He was also a member of the NESS team through FEMA, which is a team that responds to emergencies dealing in radiological health. He also worked for the Nye County Sheriff's Office from 1975 to 1980, first as a deputy and then as a sergeant.

Bert was an avid shooter, hunter and expert marksman. He was an excellent gunsmith and served as a weapons specialist in the U.S. Army from 1961 to 1964. He owned the Powder Horn Gun Shop as well as many others during his lifetime since this was his lifelong hobby and interest. Bert had the gift of gab and enjoyed meeting people.

Bert served on the Nye County Parks and Recreation Board from 1993 to 2004. He also served on the local park board known as the Beatty General Improvement District from 1995 to 1996 and then again from 1998 to 2003. Bert also served as president of the Silver State Shooting Club from approximately 1986 to 2002, and was instrumental in the planning and building of the club's shooting range in Beatty.

His wife of 28 years, Karen Gray of Beatty; his adopted family Teresa, Anthony and Tina Thomason of Beatty; half brother Barry Jacoby of Beatty; son, Hubert "Hugh" C. Gray, III; granddaughter Summer Nicole Gray of Ft. Mill, S.C.; half sister Jeannie Gates of Burlington, N.C.; stepbrothers Jimmy Yoder and Wayne Yoder, both of Graham, N.C.; and Tellas O. Yoder of Las Vegas, survive him.

His daughter Paige D. Gray, mother Sarah Yoder and father Hubert C. Gray preceded him in death.

Bert did not wish for any funeral services; anyone wishing to make a donation could do so to his or her favorite cancer society or research foundation.

Bruce Travis

A memorial service for Bruce Travis, 56, who died March 25, will be held at 12:30 p.m. Saturday in the banquet room at Saddle West Hotel and Casino.

He was born July 18, 1947 in Pennsylvania and grew up in Ohio. He enlisted in the Navy in March 1968, serving until July 1977. He then resided in San Diego, where he was an air traffic controller at Lindberg Field for several years.

He met his wife Karen in Ramona, Calif. and they were married in Las Vegas in 1990. They moved to Victorville, Calif., where Travis worked for his father-in-law at Better Idea Door for several years. He bought the company in 1994 and moved it to Pahrump.

He was a 10-year resident and owned and operated Pahrump Valley Door.

His wife Karen of Pahrump; daughters Dawn (Kevin) Belcher and Samantha Niles; son Erik Douglas; grandchildren Cameron Belcher, Kiersten Belcher and Cody Niles; brother Mark Travis; sister Trisha Travis; nieces Sarah DeStefano and Janie Travis; and nephew Danny DeStefano survive him.

Marsha Ozanich

Private family services will be held for Marsha Jean Ozanich, 56, who died March 24 in Las Vegas.

She was born Dec. 31, 1947 in Milwaukee, Wis., and moved from there to Pahrump in 2002.

She loved her family and children, and loved working with ceramics.

Her husband Bruce of Pahrump; and daughters Sheri Ozanich of Pahrump and Christine (Carlos) Cartagena of Ft. Meyers, Fla., survive her.

William Clements

No services will be held for William Clements, 81, who died March 23 in Pahrump.

He was born July 22, 1922 in Philadelphia and was a resident of Pahrump since 1990, coming from California. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy.

From the family: He lived a life of honor and love with happiness and laughter. Anchors aweigh for the final voyage.

His wife Jamie of Pahrump; sons Timothy, Michael and Patrick Clements; and daughter Kathleen Beynum survive him.

Edward Duffield

No services will be held for Edward J. Duffield Jr., 71, who died March 28 in Pahrump.

He was born Aug. 20, 1932 in New Jersey and was a 23-year resident of Pahrump, coming from California.

He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, and then was self-employed.

He is survived by the "light of his life" Alice of Pahrump; sister Joanne Thomas of Maryland; niece Brinda Logan of Maryland; nephews Kyle and Eric Duffield of Maryland; and aunt Dorothy Duffield of California.

His parents preceded him in death.
