Michael Hardesty

Michael Alfred Hardesty, 65, died July 23 at his home in Pahrump.

He was born Nov. 14, 1938 in Greenley, Colo., to Ruth Irene and Marion Weldon Hardesty, and was a resident of Pahrump for more than 10 years.

He grew up in Gresham, Ore., just outside of Portland. After two years of college, he entered Naval Flight Training School in Pensacola, Fla., and New Iberia, La., where he met his soon to be bride, Mary Connie Babineaux. They had three children, and as a family moved all over the world during his career in the Navy. He also served on aircraft carriers for six to nine months at a time.

During this time, he earned a Master's degree in psychology from Pepperdine University. He went from being a Navy pilot to becoming the director of the Navy Alcohol Safety Action Program, providing individual and group counseling. He retired honorably from the Navy in June 1981 at the U.S. Naval Submarine Base in Groton, Conn.

He then moved to New York to teach the ROTC program in Manhattan's public school system. Later he moved to the San Francisco Bay area, and then finally to Pahrump, where he met many caring and generous friends.

He was devoted to God and was a loving father, brother and son.

His wife Mary of Pahrump; and children Mary Elizabeth, Kathleen Ruth and Michael Anthony, all of Connecticut, survive him.

His ashes will be buried with his father in Deming, N.M. with full military honors.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made in memoriam to the Christian's Children Fund.

Jerome Pollock

Visitation for Jerome Errol Pollock, 60, who died July 16 in Nye County, will be held from 6-8 p.m. Friday at the Neptune Society chapel, 720 Buol Lane. Burial will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Palm cemetery in Las Vegas.

He was born Dec. 3, 1943 in Michigan, and moved to Pahrump in 1998 coming from Las Vegas.

He served in the U.S. Air Force, retiring after 22 years of service. He worked as a counselor at the Community College of Southern Nevada Pahrump campus and was a board member of the United Way of Pioneer Territory, Pahrump Valley Garden Club, Pahrump Arts Council and the Committee for the Yucca Mountain Project.

He was loved and will be missed by his family and the many friends who knew him. He was affectionately known to his parents as "the one and only Jerome."

His wife Sally of Pahrump; parents Arthur and Mary Pollock of Idaho; brother Arthur Frank (Dolly) Pollock Jr. of Idaho; sisters Florence (Bob) Ross of California and Mary (Larry) Glander of Arizona; and many nieces and nephews survive him.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Boys Town and/or the United Way of Pioneer Territory.

John Rogers

Services have been held for John Pollard Rogers, 66, who died July 28 in Amargosa Valley.

He was born March 15, 1938 in Roswell, N.M., and moved to Amargosa Valley in 1969, coming from Covina, Calif.

He was employed at Ash Meadows and then retired from IMV Nevada. He loved Amargosa Valley and everyone in it.

His wife Patricia Rogers of Amargosa Valley; son Daniel (Janet) Rogers of Beatty; daughters Shelley Rogers of Amargosa Valley and Leatha (John) Reeves of Spring Creek; brother Jim Rogers of Roseburg, Ore.; sister Mary Allen of Astoria, Ore.; five grandchildren and all his dogs survive him.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Nathan Adelson Hospice.

Peggy Boucher

Private family services will be held for Peggy Ann Boucher, 71, who died July 25 in Pahrump.

She was born July 6, 1933 in Altoona, Pa., and moved to Pahrump in December 2003 coming from Riverside, Calif.

She was a homemaker who loved crossword puzzles and loved to shop.

Her daughters Cheryl (David) Ellis of Pahrump; Lisa (Joe) Sanchez, Charleen (Mark) Ferrell and Karen (Pat) Cobb, all of California; and sister Betty Clark of Pennsylvania survive her.

Amos Lee

Funeral services for Amos Earl Lee, 86, who died Aug. 3 in Pahrump, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Pahrump Family Mortuary. Burial will follow in Kingman. Ariz.

He was born June 25, 1918 in New Mexico, and was a resident of Pahrump for two years coming from Kingman.

He was self-employed as a pool builder before retiring.

His sons Larry Lee of California, Clifford Lee and Ronnie Lee, both of Pahrump; daughter Carol Causey of Tonopah; 16 grandchildren; and 21 great grandchildren survive him.

George Pierson Jr.

Private family services will be held for George Pierson Jr., 92, of Pahrump, who died July 28. He was an oil company executive.

His wife Rama of Pahrump; sons Woodrum and Robert; and stepdaughters Kathleen Lugo, Sharon Myrick and Jess Elliott survive him.

Marcia Ridgeway

Graveside services for Marcia Ann Ridgeway, 64, who died Aug. 2 in Pahrump, will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at Grandview cemetery.

She was born Oct. 23, 1939 in Boise, Idaho, and moved to Pahrump a year ago from Las Vegas.

A homemaker, she belonged to the LDS church.

Her sister Barbara Ayoub of Pahrump; brother Bob Ridgeway of Pahrump; daughters Terri Hanyon of Rancho Cucamonga, Calif., and Rebecca Lomazzo of Las Vegas; sons Bill Hanyon of Utah, Bob Hanyon of California, Ron Hanyon and Richard Hanyon, both of Arizona; and eight grandchildren survive her.

Bill Hanyon and Erma and Elwin Ridgeway preceded her in death.

Dennis Jones

Private family services will be held for Dennis Lloyd Jones, 43, who died Aug. 4 in Pahrump.

He was born Jan. 8, 1961 in Prescott, Ariz., and moved from California to Pahrump in 1992. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy.

His father James L. Jones of Pahrump; mother Charlotte N. Jones of Pahrump; sisters Connie (Steve) Bruso of Chula Vista, Calif., Cathy (Jeff) Mineck of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and (twin) Denise (Terry) Choyce of Pahrump; one son; and one daughter survive him.

Dana Gordon

Services have been held for Dana Mae Gordon, 79, who died Aug. 3 in Pahrump.

She was born March 8, 1925 in Huntington Beach, Calif., and was a 40-year resident of Pahrump.

She worked as a dealer in the hotel-casino industry before retiring.

Her companion Gerald Lizon of Pahrump; daughter Sharon Wehrly of Pahrump; sister Cora Hodgens of Garden Grove, Calif.; grandsons George (Martha) Wehrly of Pahrump and John (Gina) Wehrly of Las Vegas; great grandsons Jessie James Wehrly of Pahrump and Tiberius John Wehrly of Las Vegas; two nephews and one niece survive her.

Lester Kochan Jr.

Visitation for Lester Kochan Jr., 69, who died Aug. 9 in Las Vegas, will be held from 10 a.m. to noon today at First Southern Baptist Church, 741 E. Fehrs Way. Funeral services will directly follow, with Pastor Ron Trummell presiding.

He was born Nov. 11, 1934 in Detroit, Mich., and was a resident of Pahrump since 1990, coming from Las Vegas.

He worked as a security supervisor for Terrible's Town Casino until his retirement and was a member of the First Southern Baptist Church.

His sons Jeff (Debbie) Kochan and Bubba Kochan, both of Springfield, Mo., Keith (Jodie) Kochan of Las Vegas, and Lester Kochan III of Boulder City; daughters Terry (Tim) Planck, Kandy (Todd) Bartlett and Sandy (Kevin) Hallowinski, all of Las Vegas, Chris (Tom) Layton of San Antonio, Texas, and Kelley Houle of Michigan; brother Bryant Akers of Pahrump; sister Dolly (Jim) Conroy of Las Vegas; and 16 grandchildren survive him.

Sandra Barbee

Private family services will be held for Sandra Dawn Barbee, 40, who died Oct. 23, 2002, in Pahrump.

She was born Oct. 8, 1962 in Caliente, and was a resident of Pahrump for more than 20 years. She was a homemaker.

Her mother, husband, two daughters and one grandson survive her.

Mark Kiefer

A farewell memorial service for Mark Alan Kiefer, 50, who died Aug. 10 in Las Vegas, will be held from 3-6 p.m. at the Kiefer home.

He was born Nov. 25, 1953 in Bishop, Calif., and was a resident of Pahrump for seven years. He worked as a heavy equipment operator.

His wife Karen of Pahrump; children Levi and Angela; father Jerry; sisters Debbie and Karen; and grandchildren Joseph, Cole, Austin, Gabriel, Abbigale, Tate and Blake survive him.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the family at the memorial.

Sunrise Cremation and Burial Service handled the arrangements. (8/10/04)
