Matthew Brown

Visitation for Matthew Alan Brown, 18, who passed away Oct. 13 in Pahrump, will be held from 6-8 p.m. today at Pahrump Family Mortuary, 5441 S. Vicki Ann Road. Services will be held Thursday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on Wilson Road. Viewing will begin at noon with the service starting at 1 p.m. Interment will follow at the Grandview cemetery, 5441 S. Vicki Ann Road.

He was born July 21, 1986 in Las Vegas, where he was raised, and moved to Pahrump six months ago. He attended Hyde Park Middle School and Durango High School.

His parents Christine and Don Brown of Pahrump; brothers Aaron and Adam Brown of Las Vegas; and grandmothers Vera Murphy of Pahrump and Elsie Brown of Las Vegas, survive him.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the family to help defray funeral costs.

Joseph Meehan Jr.

No services will be held for Joseph A. Meehan Jr., 78, who died Oct. 15 in Las Vegas.

He was born May 4, 1926 to Joseph and Helen (Raftery) Meehan in New Jersey. He worked as a bartender in the casino industry before retiring and was a resident of Pahrump.

His daughter Darla Nardus of Pahrump and son Joseph A. Meehan III of Springfield, N.J. survive him. His parents preceded him in death.

Interment will be in Holy Cross cemetery, North Arlington, N.J. (10/15/04)

Jennie Nelson

Services have been held for Jennie Lynn Nelson, 92, who passed away Sept. 30 in Arkansas while visiting family.

She was born Nov. 7, 1911 in Avenger, Texas. In 1945 she moved to Merced, Calif., where she made her home and raised her family. She was a dedicated member of Calvary Temple Pentecostal Church of God for over 50 years. She devoted many hours teaching her Sunday school class, visiting the sick and afflicted and serving others in any way she could.

Her children Billy J. Nelson and Sheri Parker, both of Boles, Ark., Betty Brooks and Helen Broussard, both of Pahrump, Steve Nelson of San Jose, Calif., and Judy Saunders of Edmond, Okla.; 12 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren, survive her.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Herman Nelson, in 1984, and her son Ed Nelson.

Stratford Evans Merced Funeral Chapel handled the arrangements. (9/30/04)

Stacie Gittelman

Services have been held for Stacie Lynn Gittelman, 39, who passed away Oct. 21 in Las Vegas.

She was born Aug. 24, 1965 in Sacramento and was a resident of Pahrump for five years, coming from New Jersey.

She worked as the director of the Pahrump Valley Cheer and Dance Academy until 2003 and was of the Baptist faith.

Her husband David Gittelman of Pahrump; daughter Alisha Watson of Pahrump; son Brad Humble of Ponca City, Okla.; father Richard Fox (Janet Gaston) of Victorville; mother Linda Tyler of Folsom, Calif.; brother Gary Johnson of Alta Loma, Calif.; and grandson Kristopher, survive her.

Mary Hix Gerber

Private family services have been held for Mary Hix Gerber, 96, who passed away Oct. 20 in Las Vegas.

She was born May 9, 1908 in New Mexico and moved to Pahrump in 1983, coming from Hemet, Calif.

She worked as a hairdresser before retiring.

Her son John (Lynda) Hix of Pahrump, four grandchildren and seven great grandchildren survive her.

Roslyn Baker

A memorial service for Roslyn S. Baker, who passed away Oct. 7 in Chicago, will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Masonic Lodge.

She and her husband, Aaron, were involved in the Masons.

Her sons Blaine and Darryl, sister Shayna, five grandchildren, several loving in-laws and nieces and nephews survive her.

Her husband Aaron preceded her in death.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to a favorite charity. (10/7/04)

Arthur Kauffman

A memorial service for Arthur Verne Kauffman, 76, who died Nov. 1 in Las Vegas, will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday at the Neptune Society chapel, 720 Buol Lane.

He was born Sept. 6, 1928 in Denver, Colo. After retiring from Continental Airlines, he moved to Pahrump in March 1993 from West Hills, Calif.

His wife Delores of Pahrump; sons Douglas (Ronda) Kauffman of Wyoming and Gary (Deborah) Kauffman of California; daughter Marilyn Davis of Pahrump; and four grandchildren survive him.

Neptune Society of Nye County handled the arrangements. (11/1/04)

Edward Kent

Private family services will be held for Edward Kent, 76, who died Oct. 30 in Pahrump.

He was born March 24, 1929 in Iowa and was a 26-year resident of Pahrump, coming from Hornick, Iowa.

He served in the U.S. Army Air Corp during World War II and the Korean War. He worked as a heavy equipment operator for a construction company before retiring, and was a member of the VFW.

His sons Ed Jr., Steven (Cash) and Kevin; daughters Karen, Rosie, Teresa and Brenda; 19 grandchildren; and 14 great grandchildren survive him.

Eudora Bailey

Private family services have been held for Eudora May Bailey, 79, who passed away Nov. 3 in Pahrump.

She was born March 13, 1925 in Lamar, Colo., and was a resident of Pahrump for five years, coming from Memphis, Tenn.

She worked in the aircraft industry for Northrop until retiring in 1965.

Her husband David of Pahrump; son Kelly Bailey of Las Vegas; daughters Shannon McCoy and Shawna Brown, both of Phoenix, Ariz.; brother Oscar Cease of Las Cruces, N.M.; nephew Alan Cease of Las Vegas; and nine grandchildren survive her.

George Bunch

A memorial service for George J. Bunch, 78, who passed away Nov. 6 in Las Vegas, will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Masonic Lodge in Pahrump.

He was born June 18, 1926 in Westfield, Ill., and was a 13-year resident of Pahrump.

He was past master of Guardian Lodge No. 597 in Southgate, Calif., past master of Pahrump Lodge No. 54 in 1998, three-time past worthy patron of Order of the Eastern Star Stardust Chapter No. 32.

His wife of 54 years, Charlotte Bunch, of Pahrump; daughter Marsha (Ian) MacKay of Chino Hills, Calif.; son Jeffery (Sue) Bunch of Van Nuys, Calif.; and two granddaughters survive him.

Clarence Blakesley

Services for Clarence S. Blakesley, 85, who died Nov. 9 in Pahrump, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Pahrump Family Mortuary.

He was born Feb. 4, 1919 in Elgin, Ill, and was a 16-year resident of Pahrump.

He worked as a tool grinder for Caterpillar until retiring in 1980, and was a member of the Moose Lodge.

His wife Elizabeth of Pahrump; son C. Newton of Massachusetts; stepsons Allen (Debbie) Baker of Oregon and Phillip (Denise) Baker of Illinois; stepdaughter Gail (Floyd) Reynolds of Illinois; sister Marie Cusack of Illinois; 12 grandchildren; and 23 great grandchildren, survive him.

Nancy Curnutte

Private family services will be held for Nancy Sue Curnutte, 67, who died Nov. 7 in Las Vegas.

She was born Sept. 24, 1937 in Oklahoma City, Okla., and moved to Pahrump in 1992 coming from Lancaster, Calif.

She and her husband Oscar were married for 52 years and were together for 52 years and three months.

Her husband Oscar A. Curnutte of Pahrump and daughters Paula Alverson of Pahrump and Mona (J.R.) Morton of Las Vegas, survive her.

Her son, Johnny Curnutte, preceded her in death.
