Jacob Hidalgo
Services for Jacob C. Hidalgo, 81, who passed away Nov. 22 in Las Vegas, will be held at 2 p.m. Dec. 16 at Boulder City Veterans Memorial cemetery.
He was born July 21, 1924 in Deming, N.M. He was a 15-year resident of Pahrump.
He served in the Marine Corps and the U.S. Air Force. He later worked as a mechanic at Lockheed.
His son Mike; brother Patrick; sisters Dora Gastelum and Mary Patino; several nephews and nieces; and two grandchildren survive him.

Lynn Alsop
Services for Lynn W. Alsop, 64, who passed away Nov. 19 in Anniston, Ala., were held Nov. 22 at the chapel of the Miller Funeral Home in Tallapoosa, Ga., with interment following in Mt. Zion West cemetery in Tallapoosa.
He was born April 11, 1941 in Midville, Utah. He was a 13-resident of Pahrump before moving to Muscadine, Ala., with his family a little more than two years ago.
He worked as a welder. He was also a friend to all and will be loved and missed.
His wife Deborah J. Alsop of Muscadine; daughter Heidi (John) Hill of Pahrump; and grandchildren Trenten and Jenna Hill of Pahrump survive him.
His son Joseph Alsop; and parents William H. Alsop and Bernetta Pugmire preceded him in death.

Ronald Brown
A memorial service for Ronald Charles "Brownie" Brown, 73, who passed away Dec. 18 in Las Vegas, will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday at the Pahrump Community Center, on Highway 160 and Basin Avenue, with an Alcoholics Anonymous meeting at 5 p.m. preceding the memorial service.
He was born July 28, 1932 in Jasper Township, Mich. He was an 18-year resident of Pahrump, coming from Beaver, Utah.
He served in the Army Air Corps after World War II. He worked as a master mechanic and was a skilled woodworker.
He was active in the Operating Engineers, Local 12 and the Democratic Party. He was also an A.A. member for 34 years, since Sept. 21, 1971. He loved A.A. and he helped many others.
His wife Sarah of Pahrump; son Michael Scott (Linda) Brown of Las Vegas; daughter Dee Dee Ann (Patricia) Brown of Van Dalia, Ill; son Joseph (Tracy) Hartley of Maple Falls, Wash.; nephew Michael John (Lupe) Brown of Santa Fe, N.M.; brother William (Virginia) Brown of Kingman, Ariz.; 27 grandchildren and four great grandchildren survive him.
His parents, twin brother Donald Brown and sister Elizabeth Burch preceded him in death. (12/18/05)
Von Beitman
A memorial service for Von Nathaniel Beitman, 77, who passed away Dec. 17 in Pahrump, will be held at 11 a.m. today at Neptune Society Chapel, 720 Buol Lane.
He was born Jan. 9, 1928 in Bossier City, La. He was a resident of Pahrump since 1994, coming from Southgate, Calif.
He served in the Merchant Marine and later worked as a reproduction unit supervisor for L.A. County Engineers.
He was an avid bowler who never missed a winter league in 58 years. He was also a wonderful husband and a fantastic father, grandfather and great grandfather.
His wife Alberta Beitman; daughter Jovan (Lawrence) Rosenthal; sons Steven (Linn) Beitman and Robert Beitman; grandchildren Jason (Fiona) Rosenthal and Keith Rosenthal; and great grandchild Kayla Rosenthal survive him.

Daniel Farmer
Services for Daniel Thomas Farmer, 74, who passed away Dec. 14 in Pahrump, will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Pahrump Family Mortuary, with a viewing from noon to 2 p.m.
He was born March 1, 1931 in New York. He was a 10-year resident of Pahrump, coming from Hollywood, Calif.
He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He later worked in Teamsters Union No. 631 and retired in 2001. He was a member of the VFW, American Legion, the NRA and Citizens for People's Rights.
His wife Stephanie Farmer of Pahrump; daughters Danielle Farmer and Dylan, both of Victorville, Calif., and Kelly Farmer of Las Vegas; sons Daniel T. and Dakota of Victorville; 12 grandchildren; and two great grandchildren survive him.
His son preceded him in death. (12/14/05)
Gary Woods
Services for Gary Woods, 64, who passed away Dec. 16 on Highway 160, will be held at noon Thursday at Pahrump Community Church.
He was born Dec. 6, 1941 in Omaha, Neb. He was a 26-year resident of Pahrump.
He was an active member of the Pahrump Community Church and was involved in men's Bible study.
His wife Jean Woods of Pahrump; daughters Tina Jones, Michelle Hunter and Vikki Garcia, all of Pahrump; son Wesley Woods of Pahrump; brothers Bob Woods of Hesperia, Calif., and Lonnie Woods of Colorado; sister Christine West of Azusa, Calif.; and seven grandchildren survive him.
His parents preceded him in death. (12/16/05)
Gwynne Hill
Private services will be held for Gwynne Peticolas Hill, 97, who passed away Nov. 27 in Pahrump.
She was born May 14, 1908 in Los Angeles. She was a 4-year resident of Pahrump, coming from Crescent City, Calif.
She was a graduate of UCLA and the Yale School of Nursing. She was later an author and a self-employed artist who retired in 1992.
Her sons Tom Peticolas of Pahrump and Michael Southard of Anchor Bay, Calif.; grandsons Tom Peticolas Jr., of Los Angeles and Corey Southard of Anchor Bay; granddaughters Susan Robert of Healdsburg, Calif., and Dina Constancio of Burbank, Calif.; and three great grandchildren survive her.
Her husbands Sherman Peticolas and Howard Hill preceded her in death.

Phyllis Harms
Services were held for Phyllis Harms, 82, who passed away Dec. 14 in Shoshone, Calif.
She was born Feb. 11, 1923.
She was a postmaster in Shoshone for 17 years and retired in 1988.
Her husband of 46 years Blackie Harms of Shoshone; daughters Janice Stohl of Reno, Barbara (Dan) Peek of Reno and Judy McLaughlin of Oceanside, Calif.; seven grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren survive her.
Her granddaughter Cynthia Cook preceded her in death.

Charles Alger
Services are pending for Charles L. Alger, 74, who passed away Dec. 21 in Pahrump.
He was born Dec. 29, 1930 in Pioche. He was a 10-year resident of Pahrump, coming from Las Vegas.
He was a U.S. Army Korean War veteran who earned three Bronze Stars and a Purple Heart. He later worked at the Nevada Test Site for 32 years and retired as a supervisor 15 years ago.
His sons Jack Lloyd (Kim) Alger of Las Vegas and Charles Steven Alger of Pahrump; daughters Pam Marie (Tim) Pinsonnault of Pahrump and Terry Lynn (Lee) Wood of Utah; brothers William, Richard and Gerald of Nevada and Hubert of California; sisters Pauline of Las Vegas and Beverly of California; 12 grandchildren and seven great grandchildren survive him.

Nadine Portwood
Memorial services for Nadine Janette Portwood, 74, who passed away Dec. 23, 2004 will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Faith Fellowship Foursquare Church, 921 S. Hwy. 160, Suite 401.
She was born Sept. 18, 1930 in Seattle, Wash., and later moved to West Covina, Calif. She worked as a bookkeeper for Allens Press Clipping Bureau, a Los Angeles newspaper for a number of years.
After retiring, she took a position at the American Red Cross in San Bernardino, Calif. After coming to Pahrump in 1992 for a chili cook-off, Nadine and her husband Al made the town their home the following year.
She served as an assistant in various election campaigns for the Nye County Sheriff and was the treasurer for the Republican Women's Club.
She was a very warm and unique individual and will be missed by all.
Her children Craig, Janette, Douglas and Carolyn; grandchildren Kristin, Justin, Brandon and Leiandra; and great grandchild Jordan survive her. (12/23/04)
Alfred Portwood
Memorial services for Alfred Thornton Portwood Jr., 77, who passed away Jan. 12 will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Faith Fellowship Foursquare Church, 921 S. Hwy. 160, Suite 401.
He was born April 8, 1927 in Colville, Wash., and moved to Pahrump in 1993 coming from West Covina, Calif.
He served in the armed forces during the Korean War and then spent the majority of his working years as an employee of the Atlantic Richfield Company until retiring in the 1980s.
He enjoyed performing magic and was a charter member of the Magic Castle, an exclusive club for magicians in Hollywood, Calif. Several years after moving to Pahrump, he worked as a sales associate for the local Wal-Mart until his passing.
Al was an easy-going guy with a zest for life.
His children Julie, Barbara, Craig, Janette, Doug and Carolyn; grandchildren George, Kristy, David, Kristin, Andrew, Justin, Brandon and Leiandra; and great grandchildren Riley, Michael, Jordan, Elias and Randy survive him.
His son, Tony, preceded him in death in 1969. (1/12/05)
