William Whitesel

Services for William (Bill) Whitesel, 52, who passed away Jan. 18, will be held at 3:30 p.m. today at Pahrump Community Church.

He was born to Otto and Margie Whitesel Jan. 11, 1953. He married Kelly Abney on Sept. 30, 1989.

He worked, played, enjoyed life and had many, many friends for 33 years in the Pahrump Valley.

His wife Kelly; children Kristan Abney, Jessie (Travis) Carberry and Aaron Abney; brother, Chuck (Debbie) Leinart, sister Ruth Ann Gerlach; stepbrothers Rodger, Craig, Edward and Carl Ridgway; grandchildren Kavan, Danny and Jadee Carberry; aunt and uncle Shirley and Ray Morris; and cousins Kim (Nick), Tim, Jody (Greg), Michael and Julie Ann survive him.

His grandparents Mr. and Mrs. Harold Johnson, Aunt June Oldendorph and numerous great uncles preceded him in death. (1/18/05)

Leslie Vickery

Viewing for Leslie (Les) T. Vickery, 68, who passed away Jan. 21 in Las Vegas, will be held from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Friday at Pahrump Family Mortuary. Services will follow from 1:30-2:30 p.m.

He was born June 5, 1936 in Harper's Ferry, Iowa, and moved to Pahrump 11 years ago from Reno.

He retired from the U.S. Air Force in 1977 after 21 years of service, including eight years in Vietnam. He then worked as a slot technician for United Coin, retiring in June 2003.

He was a member of the VFW and the DAV, and was of the Catholic faith. He enjoyed gardening and fishing.

His wife Rosa "the General" Vickery of Pahrump; daughter Kathy Vickery of Pahrump; brothers Keith Vickery of Dubuque, Iowa, and Wayne Vickery of Waterloo, Iowa; and many extended family members and friends survive him.

His parents Thomas and Clara Vickery and brother Ernest Vickery preceded him in death.

Betty Kuhry

Private family services have been held for Betty Jane Kuhry, 82, who passed away Jan. 19 in Las Vegas.

She was born May 3, 1922 in Minneapolis and moved to Pahrump in 1990, coming from Las Vegas.

She worked in arts and crafts in a ceramic shop.

Her daughter Barbara Lehman of Las Vegas; four grandchildren; six great grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren survive her.

Neptune Society of Nye County handled the arrangements. (1/19/05)

Jack Boman

Services have been held for Jack Rembrant Boman, 87, who passed away Jan. 20 in Las Vegas.

He was born Dec. 3, 1917 in Michigan and was a 32-year resident of Pahrump.

He was self-employed as a commercial painter until retiring in 1990, and was a member of the Moose Lodge.

His sister Grace Kurtz of Benicia, Calif. and brother Earl (Jughead) Boman of Lakeport, Mich., survive him.

Martha Schroder

No services are scheduled for Martha Schroder, 90, who passed away Jan. 20.

She was born July 24, 1914 in Pittsburgh, Pa., and was a resident of Pahrump for more than 13 years. Before moving to Pahrump she resided in Palm Harbor, Fla., where she and her husband owned and operated a popular produce business.

She was a regular at the Pahrump Senior Center, and if she wasn't there, she was playing her favorite poker machine.

She will be greatly missed by her family and friends, especially her best friend, Frankie-Sue.

Her daughter Karen (Jimmy) Skaliotis of Pahrump survives her.

Her husband, six sisters and one brother preceded her in death. (1/20/05)

Alice Jones

Private family services will be held for Alice Louis Jones, 81, who passed away Jan. 30 in Las Vegas.

She was born Feb. 1, 1923 in Hot Springs, Ark., and moved to Pahrump five years ago from Quail Valley, Calif. She was a homemaker.

Her daughter Felicia LaRosa of Torrance, Calif.; sister Georgia White of Prescott, Ariz.; brothers Thomas Johnson of Riverside, Calif. and Ray Johnson of Pahrump, four grandchildren; and three great grandchildren survive her.

Jane Rich

Services for Jane E. Rich, 80, who passed away Jan. 25, will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday at Mt. View Lutheran Church in Las Vegas.

She was born June 22, 1924 in Caney, Kansas. She resided in Fontana, Calif., from the early 1970s until 1995, when she moved to Las Vegas.

She was a homemaker and a member of Mt. View Lutheran Church.

Her passing leaves a void in the hearts of her children.

Her son William F. Hill of Pahrump; daughters Elaine Sumner of Pahrump and Jeannie (George) Baca of Las Vegas; 10 grandchildren; and 13 great grandchildren survive her.

The family requests that memorial contributions be made to Nathan Adelson Hospice, out of gratitude for the comfort and kindness shown to their mother and the entire family.

Desert Memorial Cremation and Burial Society handled the arrangements. (1/25/05)

Linda Jensen

Linda Ordine Jensen, 50, passed away Jan. 25 at St. Rose de Lima hospital in Las Vegas. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the LDS chapel located at Wilson and West.

She was born Oct. 20, 1954 in Brooklyn, N.Y. She was a licensed practical nurse and a 22-year resident of Las Vegas.

Her parents Fred and Maryanna Ordine of Pahrump; brother Stephen (Loretta) Ordine of Las Vegas and their son Brandon; sister Deborah (Rodney) Langston Brian and Tiffany of Goodsprings and their children; sons Jonathan of Las Vegas, Christopher of Goodsprings; and Eric of Pahrump; daughter Jennifer of Las Vegas; grandchildren Dominic and Diamond; and many loving uncles, aunts, relatives and friends, survive her. Mindy Russell

Services have been held for Mindy Russell, 50, who passed away Jan. 28 in Las Vegas.

She was born Dec. 13, 1954 in Brooklyn, N.Y., and was a two-year resident of Pahrump.

She was a nutritional products salesperson and also worked for No To Abuse in Pahrump.

Her companion, Darrell Hill of Oceanside, Calif.; children Mike Russell and Pamela Armstrong; father Jay Russell; mother Sylvia Russell; brother Rubin Russell; sisters Marion Bob and Rosilyn Mamet; and grandchildren Tavvi Armstrong and Shoshanna Armstrong survive her.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to Chabad of Southern Nevada for Domestic Abuse.

James Thompson

A memorial service for James Lee Thompson Jr. (Tommy), 73, who passed away Feb. 6 in Las Vegas, will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday at Pahrump Family Mortuary.

He was born Feb. 7, 1931 in Cragford, Ala., and was a 15-year resident of Pahrump coming from California.

He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War and worked as a manager for UPS.

He was a member of the VFW, the Moose Lodge and the American Country Music Association.

His brother Edward M. (Joyce) Thompson of Cragford, many nieces and nephews, friends and loved ones survive him.

Daniel Tyra

Services have been held for Daniel J. Tyra, Sr., 60, who passed away Jan. 23 in Las Vegas.

He was born May 13, 1944 in Detroit, Mich. He was the son of the late Houston and Vernia (Paul) Tyra of Romulus, Mich.

He will be greatly missed and son Danny Jr. says, "His shoes will be hard to fill."

His daughters, Lisa (David) Baker of Wyandotte, Mich., Correne Tyra of Tucson, Ariz., and Danielle Tyra of Las Vegas; sons Johnny Tyra of Wyandotte, Danny (Ginger) Tyra of Pahrump and Lee Tyra of Las Vegas; sister Barbara (Richard) Bounce of Boulder City, Carol Ann Maddox of Dearborn, Mich., and Debbie Tyra of Dearborn Heights, Mich.; brothers Robert (Cheryl) Tyra of Taylor, Mich., Ronnie (Brenda) Tyra of Wyandotte, Jerry (Connie) Tyra of Flat Rock, Mich., David (Janet) Tyra, Kenny (Carol) Tyra, and Ricky (Deanne) Tyra, all of Taylor, Mich., and Randy Tyra; brother-in-law Rick Stroupe of Taylor; sister-in-law Onalee Tyra of Canton, Mich.; 14 grandchildren; one great grandson and many nieces and nephews survive him.

His wife of 37 years, April (Duff) Tyra, sister Christine Stroupe, and brother James Tyra preceded him in death. (1/23/05)
