Eugene Heil

Services are pending for Eugene Heil, 70, who passed away April 18 in Pahrump.

He was born June 3, 1934 in Lewiston, Mont. He moved to Pahrump three years ago, coming from Montana.

He served in the U.S. Army and worked as a manager for a co-op before retiring in 1995.

He was a member of the VFW and was of the Lutheran faith.

His wife Jeanie Beckman-Heil of Pahrump; daughters Dianne (Dick) Brotten, Laurie (Joe) Bauman, Patti Feller, Lisa (Larry) Schmitz, Charlene (Robert) Heil, all of Montana, and Maryann (Cris) Heil of Colorado; sister Ann Carter of Montana; brothers Miro of Montana and George of Idaho; 13 grandchildren and two great grandchildren survive him.

His parents, one sister, and wives Donna and Ruth preceded him in death.

Thomas Willett

Funeral services for Thomas Joseph Willett, 77, who passed away April 15 in Las Vegas, will be held at 11 a.m. Monday in the Neptune Society Chapel. Graveside services will follow in Death Valley Junction, Calif.

He was born Feb. 6, 1938 in Warren County, Miss., and served in the U.S. Army. He moved to Death Valley Junction 23 years ago from Trona, Calif.

While in Death Valley he worked as an actor and comedian at the Amargosa Opera House. He loved trains and his time on and off the stage with his constant companion for the last 22 years, Marta Beckett.

His companion, Marta of Death Valley Junction; daughters Adair M. Most and Gaila J. Hunt of Pahrump; sons Michael T. and Craig J., both of Arizona; grandchildren Becky, Tina, Regina, Christina, Michael, Brandon, Paul and Jaime; and 15 great grandchildren survive him.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Amargosa Opera House.

Neptune Society of Nye County handled the arrangements. (4/15/05)

Robert Woods

A memorial service for Robert Woods, 85, who passed away April 19 in Las Vegas, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Pahrump Valley United Methodist Church, 1300 E. Highway 372.

He was born March 11, 1920 in Pennsylvania, and moved to Pahrump 10 years ago, coming from California.

He served in the U.S. Navy and was self-employed as a contractor until retiring 13 years ago.

He was a member of the VFW and the American Legion and was of the Protestant faith.

His sons John (Jodie) Woods of Michigan, Richard (Susan) Walkup and Ralph (Cindy) Winkler, both of California; daughters Mary Woods and Carol Waller, both of California; sister Kate Patrick of Pahrump; brother Jerry Woods of California; 14 grandchildren; and 11 great grandchildren survive him.

His parents, one brother, one sister, and daughter Barbara preceded him in death.

Marilyn Zook

A celebration of life for Marilyn Jean Zook, 74, who passed away April 8 in Las Vegas, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at her home.

Marilyn and her departed husband, Don E. Zook, moved to Pahrump 14 years ago after living in Las Vegas during their childhood.

She loved to read and was a strong supporter of the Pahrump Community Library. She loved to cook and garden.

Her son Don L. Zook of Las Vegas; daughter Sherry L. Zook of Pahrump; grandson Scott Zook of Las Vegas, niece Nancy Martin-White of Alaska and Curtis Zook of Washington, survive her.

Neptune Society of Nye County handled the arrangements. (4/8/05)

Muriel Bennett-Smith

Services were held April 18 for Muriel E. "Lady Mike" Bennett-Smith, who passed away April 15.

She was born June 8, 1921 in Wheatland, Wyo., to poor homesteaders. By the time she was 6 years old, her parents had both passed away, so she went to live with her aunt in Iowa, where she stayed until graduating from high school.

She spent the next 27 years traveling with her husband Stan Stites and Tom Bennett, arriving in Pahrump in 1967. Expecting to move in a year or so, she lived in Belvins Mobile Home Park. A year later they decided to make Pahrump their permanent home.

She worked as a waitress at the Old Calvada Inn, and then in the 1970s she and her daughters Marri and Cathy purchased the Cotton Pickin' Saloon and opened a restaurant. Lady Mike's specials included homemade soup, hot, fresh loaves of bread and her great Mexican food.

After selling out and retiring to her two acres on Manse Road, she catered private parties for several years.

Her daughters Cathy Duckett and Marri (Bum) Werly of Pahrump; grandchildren Coren (Augustine) Panzino, Michael Augustine, Frank Garren and Shayne Reed; and six great grandchildren survive her. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Nathan Adelson Hospice or the Pahrump Humane Society. Neptune Society of Nye County handled the arrangements. (4/18/05)

Robert Bell

A memorial service for Robert "Bob" Vincent, Bell, 82, who passed away April 16 in Las Vegas, will be held from 1-5 p.m. June 5 at the Bob Ruud Community Center, 150 N. Highway 160.

He was born March 15, 1923 in Detroit, Mich., to Catherine and George Bell.

He enlisted in the U.S. Army in October 1939 at age 18 (the records were corrected after his medical discharge to reflect he was only 16 at the time of enlistment.) As a member of the 101st Airborne Division, Bob saw action in Holland and was seriously wounded on Sept. 26, 1944. He was awarded a Purple Heart, E.A.M.E. Campaign Medal, Bronze Star, Distinguished Unit Badge, Combat Infantryman Badge and American Defense Medal.

He was a member of the Kiwanis, first joining the Kiwanis Club of Upland, Calif., on June 6, 1965. He was a founding and charter member of the Kiwanis Club of Upland-Foothill, served as president of the Upland-Foothill Club from 1975-1976, Lt. Governor Division 15 from 1979-1980 in Cal-Nev-Ha, District 85 of Kiwanis International.

He was a founding and charter member of the Kiwanis Club of Pahrump Valley, chartered in March 1996. He was a permanent member of the Board of Directors and also served as membership chairman. Bob's primary goal as a member of Kiwanis was to help disadvantaged and disabled children and adults in the communities he was involved with.

Bob lived in Ontario, Calif., and owned a small business prior to retirement. He traveled extensively throughout the United States prior to settling in Pahrump in 1993.

His wife of 15 years Arvilla Hightower-Bell of Pahrump; sons Arthur Bell of Ft. Wayne, Ind., and James Bell of Shingle Springs, Calif.; daughter Mary Gray of Medford, Ore.; brother William of Florida; five grandchildren; and four great grandchildren survive him.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made in support of child educational and sports programs to the Kiwanis Club of Pahrump Valley Foundation. Make donations specific to "child education and children's sports." (4/16/05)

Vicki Driesner

Services were held in Highland, Ill., for Vicki I. Driesner, 58, who passed away April 22 in St. Louis, Mo.

She was born July 25, 1946 in Canton, Ill., to Gerald W. and Minnie J. (Kesler) Pritchard. She graduated from Canton High School in 1964 and then attended and graduated from Methodist College of Nursing in Peoria, Ill.

She worked as a nurse for Alton Memorial Hospital before retiring in 2004. She was an active member of First Baptist Church in Highland, teaching Sunday School for a number of years and singing in the choir. She was on the Shurtleff Foundation Board of Directors, SIU-E and the Missions Board of American Baptist Churches, Great Rivers Region.

She volunteered at St. Joseph Hospital in Highland, tutored adult literacy students and enjoyed traveling, reading and doing needlepoint.

Her mother Jane Pritchard of Pekin, Ill.; daughter Natalie R. (Michael) Thiems of Elgin, Ill., sister Patty K. (Raja) Gangadharan of Pahrump; brother Gary G. (Terri) Pritchard of Pekin, Ill.; former husband Arnold G. Driesner of Edwardsville, Ill.; grandchildren Lydia K.N. Thiems and Naomi P.E. Thiems of Elgin, Ill.; and numerous nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews, survive her.

Her father Gerald and son Eric E. Driesner preceded her in death.

Ron Nunziati

A memorial service for Ron Nunziati, 75, who passed away April 12 in California, will be held at 3:30 p.m. Friday at the Pahrump Community Church.

He was born Dec. 25, 1929 in San Francisco, Calif., to Otto and Kate Nunziati and was a resident of Pahrump for more than seven years.

He served in the U.S. Army and worked in the food industry, retiring from Petrini Markets in California.

His wife Joanne of Pahrump; stepdaughters Melissa Jennings of Pahrump, Deborah Pray and Patricia Firpo of California; stepson Michael Firpo of California; children Diane Triney, Jimmy Nunziati and Linda Nunziati, all of California; brother Gene; sister-in-law Patricia Butcher of Paris, France; seven step-grandchildren; and six grandchildren survive him.

His parents and sister Maryann preceded him in death. (4/12/05)

Ruth Holbrook

Visitation for Ruth Lois Holbrook, 83, who passed away April 23 in Henderson, will be held from 10 a.m. to noon today at Palm Mortuary - Eastern, 7600 S. Eastern Ave. in Las Vegas. Graveside services will follow at 1:30 p.m.

She was born Sept. 25, 1921 in Ohio. She was a 13-year resident of Las Vegas and a former 10-year resident of Pahrump.

She worked as a clerk for a department store before retiring and was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star.

Her husband Dennis of Tonopah; daughters Karen, Sandra and Linda; 10 grandchildren; and eight great grandchildren survive her.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to any animal shelter.

Patsy Selbach

Services for Patsy Lee Selbach, 54, who passed away April 23 in Amargosa Valley, will be held at 3 p.m. today at Church of Amargosa, 1870 W. Farm Rd., Amargosa Valley.

She was born June 26, 1950 in Nebraska and was a 30-year resident of Amargosa Valley, coming from California.

She was a gold miner and of the Christian faith.

Her son Jason Selbach of Phoenix, Ariz.; and sisters Shirley Smith of Arizona and Bonnie Andrews of California survive her.

Her parents and one brother preceded her in death.

Richard Schomer

Viewing for Richard Schomer, 66, who passed away April 26 in Las Vegas, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Pahrump Family Mortuary. Services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church, with graveside services to follow at Pahrump Family Mortuary.

He was born April 20, 1939 in Pierre, S.D., and was a 10-year resident of Pahrump coming from California.

He served in the U.S. Army and worked in computer electronics for Boeing, retiring in 1995.

His wife Dorothy Schomer of Pahrump; daughters Michelle Anderson of California, Monica Wickham and Cynthia L. Wickham, both of Oregon; son Donald S. Wickham of California; sisters Shirley Yegge, Dianne Howard and Jonie Schomer Mack; brothers Jerry, Bob and Doug Schomer; and four grandchildren survive him.
