A memorial service in loving memory of Blaine Skelton, 68, who passed away Oct. 22 in Las Vegas, will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at 850 Kimberly.

Neptune Society of Nye County handled the arrangements. (10/22/05)

Jeanne Newnham

Private services for Jeanne Francis Newnham, 60, who passed away Oct. 26 in Pahrump, will be held in Fallon.

She was born Aug. 14, 1945 in Vallejo, Calif., where she attended Hogan High. She was a resident of Crystal since 1995.

Her two sons; two daughters; 11 grandchildren; and longtime friend and caregiver W. E. Lopez survive her.

Donations in lieu of flowers may be made to Nathan Adelson Hospice. (10/26/05)

Robert Borresch

Services for Robert N. Borresch, 73, who passed away Dec. 6 in Las Vegas, will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at St. Joseph Catholic Church in St. Joseph, Minn.

He was born Aug. 24, 1932 in St. Cloud, Minn. He moved to Nevada after his retirement.

He served in the U.S. Navy and was a Korean War veteran. He established Borresch Plumbing and Heating in 1962. He was a member of Waite Park American Legion Post No. 428 and St. Joseph VFW Post No. 5773. He was also a founding member of Alcoholics Anonymous in St. Joseph.

He enjoyed spending time with his family, hunting, fishing, traveling and the time he spent with his bingo group.

His sons Thomas (Rhonda) of St. Joseph, Mike of St. Cloud, and Tim (Sue) of St. Joseph; daughters Michelle (Robert) Gohl of St. Joseph, Brenda (Donny) Schindler; grandchildren Travis, Jason, Lucas, Jennifer, Tyler, Emily and Austin; sister Marilyn Hiscock; and his beloved dogs Windy, Blacky One, Blacky Two and Spotty survive him.

He wife Corrine, whom he married on May 31, 1954, preceded him in death on May 19, 1994. (12/06/05)

Patricia Robinson

Services for Patricia Jean Robinson, 68, who passed away Dec. 7 in Pahrump, will be held at 12:30 p.m. at Chief Tecopa cemetery today, with a visitation at 11 a.m. today at Neptune Society Chapel.

She was born May 7, 1937 in Buena Park, Calif. She moved to Pahrump in 1977, coming from Bakersfield, Calif.

Her daughters Jolinda (Ron) Naucke and Holly Robinson; sons Todd Robinson and Corby (Robin) Robinson; sister Ilene Waldroup; two nieces and their children; eight grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; dog Dobby; and cat Gabby survive her.

Her husband Jimmie Robinson preceded her in death in 1979.

Neptune Society of Nye County handled the arrangements. (12/07/05)

Alice Ostrander

Services for Alice A. Ostrander, 78, who passed away Nov. 28 in Reno, were held Dec. 13 at the LDS Tolas Street Chapel in Fallon, with internment in the Churchill County cemetery.

She was born Feb. 8, 1927, the daughter of Ukrainian immigrants Prokop and Anastasia Drapiaty Szawarowski. She lived in Fallon for more than 20 years, coming from Pahrump.

She was active in the LDS Church, Fallon 5th Ward; the Republican Women's Group and was a regular volunteer at the Hospital Auxiliary Thrift Shop. She was loved and will be missed by all who knew her.

Her daughters Lynn Michaud of Boston, Mass., Robin E. Hermann of Reno and Eileen Ostrander of Sacramento, Calif.; grandchildren Christopher Michaud of Moab, Utah, and Areana Ostrander of Sacramento; and sister Janet Richards of Florence, Ore., survive her.

Her husband Edwin J. Ostrander II; and sisters Julia Whipple and Mary Iskra preceded her in death.

Donations may be made in lieu of flowers to the LDS Church Perpetual Education Fund, c/o Bishop Richard Evans, 1121 Ernst Drive, Fallon, NV 89406.

Otho Roberts

Services for Otho June Roberts, 73, who passed away Dec. 7 in Okalahoma, will be held at 2 p.m. today at Chief Tecopa cemetery.

She was born June 26, 1932 in Alabama. She was a resident of Tahlequah, Okla.

She loved to read and work in her yard. She loved all sports, especially football, baseball and figure skating. Most important was the time she spent with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Her children Kay Ford and Bruce Kerns of Tahlequah, Dan and Diane Roberts of Pahrump, Teresa and John Cunefare of Bossier City, La., Tom and Tracy Roberts of Riverside, Calif., and James and Linda Roberts of Henderson; stepfather Thomas Taylor of Bakersfield, Calif.; 14 grandchildren; and three great grandchildren survive her.

Pahrump Family Mortuary handled the arrangements. (12/07/05)

Patricia Laning

Patricia Anne Laning, was born April 8, 1942, in Virginia Beach, Va. She met Oliver Laning in Edmonds, Wash. They were married in Reno, April 15, 1970, and moved to Las Vegas.

Patti worked at Portraits by Homer and Van at the then brand new Boulevard Mall until becoming the sole proprietor of Nevada School Portraits. She later sold her business to Life Touch Studios and recently retired from real estate with the Americana Group.

Together, Patti and Oliver had a blended family of seven children; Scott Laning, Susie Jefferson, Anne Gipson, Tammy Holtfreter, Linda Knudsen, Lori Watts and Connie Jaques; 12 grandchildren, Nathan Laning, Jeffrey Laning, Janee' Jefferson, Marcus Jefferson, Deyonna Jefferson, Orion Hook, Pierce Holtfreter, Lauren Holtfreter, Geni Alexander-Sartain, Shannon Peters, Felicia Jaques and Olivia Jaques. She also leaves behind three brothers, Carl Miner, George Miner and Jimmy Miner; and one sister, Cindy Hiniker. Oliver Laning, her husband of 35 years, now resides in Pahrump.

Patti went to be with the Lord Dec. 11, 2005. She loved many and her smile will be missed by all.

A memorial service will be at noon Dec. 17, at Community Lutheran Church, 3720 E. Tropicana Ave., Las Vegas. (12/11/05)

Charles Alger

A visitation for Charles L. Alger, 74, who passed away Dec. 21 in Pahrump, will be held from noon to 2 p.m. today at Pahrump Family Mortuary, with services following the visitation at 3 p.m. today at the L.D.S. Church on the corner of Wilson Road and West.

He was born Dec. 29, 1930 in Pioche. He was a 10-year resident of Pahrump, coming from Las Vegas.

He was a U.S. Army Korean War veteran who earned three Bronze Stars and a Purple Heart. He later worked at the Nevada Test Site for 32 years and retired as a supervisor 15 years ago.

His sons Jack Lloyd (Kim) Alger of Las Vegas and Charles Steven Alger of Pahrump; daughters Pam Marie (Tim) Pinsonnault of Pahrump and Terry Lynn (Lee) Wood of Utah; brothers William, Richard and Gerald of Nevada and Hubert of California; sisters Pauline of Las Vegas and Beverly of California; 12 grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; and his loving companion of 24 years survive him.

Interment will be held at 1:20 p.m. Tuesday at Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial cemetery in Boulder City. (12/21/05)

Frances Elder

Services for Frances C. (nee Brown) Elder, 83, who passed away Dec. 17 at Nathan Adleson Hospice in Las Vegas, will be held at a later date in Lorain, Ohio.

She was born Feb. 7, 1922 in Norfolk, Va.

She lived most of her life in Lorain County.

She worked as a substitute driver for the Lorain Journal afternoon newspaper and was a secretary for the Longfellow PTA.

She also worked for the Lorain City Auditors Office, the Lorain City Income Tax Department and at the Hanna Theater in Cleveland, Ohio, under the New York Theater Guild.

She was a member of the Episcopal Church of the Redeemer, Service Guild and Couples Club.

She was also a member of the Stone City Chapter No. 325 Order of Eastern Star in Amherst, Ohio.

Her son Phil of Lorain; daughters Judy Hayden of Mission, Texas and Jane Kaczay of Pahrump; grandsons Jeff Hayden of Washington, D.C., John Hayden of Honolulu, Hawaii and Chris Cowie of Veldez, Alaska; four grandchildren; five great grandchildren; two great great-grandchildren; and three nephews survive her.

Her husband of 59 years Harold J. Elder; grandson Dan Hayden; a great grandson; parents Arthur B. Brown and Irma G. (nee Carver) Brown; and stepfather Myron Sinclair preceded her in death.

Swartz, Spence & Boyer Funeral Home in Lorain handled the arrangements. (12/17/05)
