Michael J. Ryan
Michael J. Ryan, age 54, died unexpectedly on May 1, 2004, at his residence.
He was born Oct. 30, 1949, in Dodgeville, Wis., to Sylvester and Helen Ryan. He was raised and schooled in Wisconsin. Michael moved west in the mid 1970s to go to Colorado Mountain College, where he met his wife of 25 years, Marci Brown. He had worked in mining most of his life, in Colorado and Nevada, currently with Newmont Mining underground division.
He enjoyed photography, geology and mining, motorcycles and his children.
Michael was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Pat Ryan, and a nephew, Tim Weier.
He is survived by his wife, Marci Ryan of Buena Vista, Colo.; daughter, Jessica Ryan of Boulder, Colo.; son, Alex Ryan of Buena Vista; sisters, Jackie Weier and Carolyn Olson both of Dodgeville, Wisc., Mary Husom of Ridgeway, Wisc.; brothers, Tom Ryan of Dodgeville, Wisc. and Jim Ryan of Shakopee, Minn.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, May 6, 2004, at 7 p.m. at the River of Life International Church with Pastor Larry Fluery officiating.

Memorial services will be held in Buena Vista, Colo., on Saturday, May 15.
Thomas Hussey
Thomas Hussey, age 81, longtime resident of Carlin, Nevada, passed away Wednesday, May 5, 2004 at the Highland Manor, from natural causes.
He was born October 27, 1922 in Mountain Home, Idaho and was raised in Wells, Nev.
Mr. Hussey was a U.S. Navy Veteran of World War II. He was employed by the Southern Pacific Railroad where he worked for 41 years, retiring as a conductor.
In his earlier years, his interests included rock collecting and hiking.
No services are scheduled.
Gilbert J. "Gil" Duran
Gilbert J. "Gil" Duran, 58, a long time resident of Agua de Ramon and dedicated Bronco fan died in Salt Lake City on April 15, 2004. He was born Feb. 28, 1946, in Del Norte to Jim P. and Tillie Duran. He lived in Elko, Nev., and worked for Newmont Gold for 12 years. He had just moved back two years ago to Agua de Ramon where he has his family home.
He loved fishing, camping and hunting with his sons and family; he was a loving husband, father, brother, grandfather, father-in-law and friend. He enjoyed working on his house and being outdoors with his wife at his side.
Survivors include his wife of 40 years, Marcella of the family home in Agua de Ramon; two sons, Paul (Kathy) Duran of Elko, Nev. (South Fork), and Victor (Sherrie) Duran of Monte Vista; one daughter, Leslie (Rich) Shelley of Elko; seven grandchildren, Jessica, Stephen, Brittany, James, Brice and Dennasha Duran, and Nikki Shelley; five brothers, Richard (Julia), Rudy (Mena) and Daniel (Della) Duran of Center, Joe (Tina) Duran of Rock Springs, Wyo., and Marcellino (Gloria) Duran of Pueblo; five sisters, Lillian (Alex) Maldonado and Frances (Beto) Duran of Pueblo, Sandra (Roman) Fernandez, Charline (Luis) Duran and Virginia (Riauel) Valles of Center, and numerous nieces and nephews.
His mother and father, and one sister, Mercy Martinez, preceded him in death.
He was loved by his family and will be missed very much.

Blake Colby McGarva "Blakey"
Blake Colby McGarva "Blakey" was born Jan. 6, 1986, in Alturas, Calif. Blake grew up and went to school in Likely, Calif. A vehicle accident claimed his life and the life of his friend, Zane Baird.
Blake loved to cowboy and was damn good at it.
He is survived by his parents and stepparents, Shane and Corinna McGarva of Likely, Monica and Steve Banks of Reno; brother, Jared; and sisters, Richelle and Andrea.
Services will be held in Likely, Calif., on May 14, 2004, at 2 p.m.
Mildred Gertrude Waddell
Sept. 9, 1925 - May 10, 2004
On May 10, 2004, our beloved Gertrude Waddell went to be with our Lord.
On May 13, viewings will be held first in Elko at Burns Funeral Home from 8 a.m. - 10 a.m. and then at Carlin First Baptist Church from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. with funeral services following at 2 p.m.
Gertrude Butler was born Sept. 9, 1925, in Atwood, Okla., where she helped raise eight brothers and sisters until graduating from Atwood High in 1943. After high school she went to work in Oklahoma City in an airplane factory until the war ended. Then she worked in Holdenville, Okla., in the tag office. She met her future husband there. She married Denton Waddell in 1947. They spent many years traveling in the drilling business "Doodle Bugging" until finally making a permanent home in Carlin, Nev., in 1967. Gertrude was well known and loved in the community by all that came into contact with her. She remembered everyone, making them feel so very special. She gave all of herself to her church, the Senior Center and the rest of the community.
She was loved and adored by all. She will be missed terribly and will always be remembered as "The Card Lady."
Gertrude Waddell is survived by her husband of over 56 years, Denton "Pappy" Waddell; her daughter, Ann Waddell of Buffalo, Wyo.; granddaughters, Misty Ballinger of Buffalo, Tammy Hendricks and husband, Sage, of N.C.; and two great grandchildren, Jayson and Kyra Hendricks; and all eight of her brothers and sisters.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Goldie Butler; one son, Floyd Waddell; and one grandson, Denny Waddell.
