John Falcone

John "Big John" Falcone, 67, passed away in Las Vegas, August 24, 2007.

He was born August 13, 1940 in San Jose, Calif. and lived in Pahrump for 37 years, having moved from Palmdale, Calif.

He served in the US Navy in Vietnam and was assigned to the U.S.S. Enterprise. He worked as a self-employed mechanic after leaving the service.

His wife, Nancy; daughters, Teresa Falcone, Danielle Falcone, and Francesca Falcone; son, John Falcone; brothers, Tony Falcone and Ralph Falcone; and 2 grandchildren; all of Pahrump, survive him.

In lieu of flowers donations should be made to the immediate family. (08/24/07)

Jennie Fontaine

Jennie M. (Magnacca) Fontaine, 91, of Pahrump, died August 24, 2007 in Nathan Adelson Hospice in Las Vegas.

Her beloved husband of 56 years, J. Victor Fontaine, died May 12, 1995.

Jennie is survived by her devoted son, Kenneth Fontaine of Pahrump; brother JKL Mignacca of Pahrump; sister, Loretta Judson of Chesapeake, Va.; two grandchildren, Dr. Reid G. Fontaine of Tucson, Ariz., Jared J. Fontaine (Laura) of Brooklyn, N.Y., and a great-grandchild, Giulia Fontaine.

Jennie was the daughter of Patsy and Mary (D'Alessandr) Mignacca and she was born in Shrewsbury on Aug. 4, 1916.

Jennie graduated from Shrewsbury High School.

She was the head court clerk for the probation department in the Worcester trial courthouse and retired in 1981.

She belonged to a local sewing club and was a member of St. Margaret Mary Lutheran Church.

Jennie's funeral will be held Aug. 29 from the Mercadante Funeral Home and Chapel, 370 Plantation Street, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. in St. Margaret Mary Church, 75 Alvarado Avenue.

Burial will follow in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. A calling hour will be held Wednesday from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. in the funeral home immediately prior to church. (08/24/07)

Marilyn McMurty

A memorial service for Marilyn Grace McMurty will be held at 6 p.m., Monday, Aug. 27 at the Moose Lodge, 1100 E. Second Street in Pahrump.

Marilyn passed away at her home in Mesquite on Aug. 11. She was born Dec. 27, 1936 in Tulare, S.D.

She grew up in Sedro Wolley, Wash., and was active in the 4-H Club, was a song leader, and Homecoming Queen at the local high school. Marilyn raised her family in Kenmore, Wash., where she was actively involved in her church choir, PTA, the Ryther Child Center and Seattle Sounders Booster Club.

She graduated from Edmunds Community College with a degree in Travel and Tourism, and in 1986 moved to Pahrump to create Valley View Travel, Inc. and fulfilled her dream of having her own business. She helped the people and families of Pahrump and surrounding areas with their travel needs for 16 years before retiring in 2001.

She was a 19 year member of the Women of the Moose and enjoyed being a part of The College of Regents.

Her gentle caring way and generous heart made her very special and dear to all who knew her.

Her son, Brian of Monroe, Wash.; daughter, Sharon of Pahrump; brother, Douglas Giessen and his wife Angel of Tacoma, Wash; brother Douglas Hammje and his wife Jody of Boones Mill, Va.; brother, Earl Giessen and his wife Suzie of Bow, Wash.; cousin, Shirley Peplow of Mesquite, and her grandchildren, Madeline, Chloe and Cassandra McMurty of Everett, Wash. survive her.

Those wishing to make a donation in her memory may consider Mooseheart in lieu of flowers.

The family will receive friends from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Monday, Aug. 27. (08/11/07)

Edward Holliday

Edward Winston (Doc) Holliday, 72, passed away August 14, 2007 at Nathan Adelson Hospice in Las Vegas.

Edward was born July 10, 1935 in White Sulphur Springs, Mont.

Ed served in the U.S. Navy from 1954 until 1958 and retired to Pahrump nine years ago.

He spent 16 years an industrial electrician for Kaiser Steel in Fontana, and retired after 14 years as an electrician for Navy Public Works.

Ed is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Judith "Judy" Holliday; son Thomas Holliday of Victorville, Calif.; daughter, Traci Holliday of Pahrump; granddaughters, Crystal Holliday of Utah and Charlene Holliday of Pahrump, and grandson Cory Holliday also of Pahrump.

Three sisters preceded him in death and two sisters, Elizabeth and Colleen survive him.

"He will be greatly missed."

Memorial services will be held 1 p.m., Aug. 25, at St. Martins in the Desert.

Richard Carson

Richard (Dick) Carson, 72, returned to his eternal home August 22, 2007 at Nathan Adelson Hospice in Las Vegas.

He was born Dec. 27, 1934 to Oscar and Edith Carson of Los Angeles, Calif.

Pahrump became his home in 1991 when he retired from a life of self-employment. His daughters soon followed.

Richard's affiliations included the Elks, the Rocky Mountain Elks Foundation and the Elks Men's Golf Club.

Richard loved the simple life. His love of hunting, fishing, and golf reflected his life in the outdoors.

He was a soft-spoken, gentle man with many lifelong friends and a large extended family who loved and respected him...To his family, he seemed to walk on water.

His heart, as big as Alaska in his giving, in return touched the heart of everyone who knew him and he always had time for those in need.

His heart and soulmate for 53 years, Jeri Carson and their Chihuahua, "Rocky"; four daughters, Monica (Briz) Peterson of Arkansas, Toni Gibbs of Elko and Carol (Robert) Lopez and Gay Zimmerle both of Pahrump; 15 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren survive him.

Both parents and his great-grandson Jeffrey Means II, preceded him in death.

Services will be private.

Robert Burnes

Friends and family of Robert (Bob) Burnes will gather in a celebration of his life, 8 p.m., Sat., Aug. 25 at Valley Bar, 2101 E. Gamebird Road. (08/05/07)

Robert Burnes

Robert (Bob) Burnes, 64, passed away Aug. 5, 2007, at Nathan Adelson Hospice in Las Vegas.

He was born October 4, 1942, and was a 3-year resident of Pahrump. He was a retired carpenter.

His daughter Julie Burnes of Beaumont, Calif.; sons Gene Burnes of California, and Jeff Burnes and John Burnes, both of Arizona; sisters Betty Land of Nevada and Marianne Burnes of Arkansas; brothers Joe Burnes, Buster Burns and Jamie Wigal, all of California; and five grandchildren survive him.

His parents preceded him in death.

Memorial services will be held at a later date. Arrangements are being handled by La Paloma of Las Vegas. (08/05/07)

Kathy Lynn Reason

Kathy Lynn Reason, 48, of Las Vegas, passed away July 28, 2007.

She is survived by her companion Jeffrey; son Nicholas of Santa Clara, Utah; sister Tawnya Moen of Las Vegas; brother Pete Kuhn of Greybull, Wyo., and her parents David and Betty Kuhn of Pahrump.

Services will be scheduled at a later date. (07/28/07)

Charles A. Hodel

Charles A. Hodel, a resident of Pahrump for the last several years, passed away August 8, 2007 after a long struggle with Alzheimer disease.

During his lifetime he worked for Andres French restaurant in Las Vegas as head chef. In New York, he was instrumental in establishing the kitchen at the Fountain Blue Hotel.

This kind, wonderful, generous man has left a big void in the lives of his friends.

Two daughters, four grandchildren and the two ladies who kept in touch throughout his illness; Ann Hudson and Dora Gastelum.

Dorthea E. Ruddell

Dorothea E. Ruddell (Holbrook) passed away peacefully in her sleep on the morning of August 8, 2007, at the age of 84. Dorothea was born August 17, 1922, to Clara and Bill Stevenson in Boone, Iowa. She attended several schools from Boone, Iowa, to Wyoming. Dorothea graduated form Riverton, Wyo., in 1937.

She married Don Mecham in Green River, Wyo., in 1939. Dorothea lived in Las Vegas in 1942, then a short stay in Reno, Nev., where she was one of the first women to "deal" roulette. In 1943, Dorothea settled in Tonopah.

Dorothea was later married to Dana Holbrook Jr. and lived throughout many Western States including several years in Boise, Idaho. She moved to Pahrump after the passing of her husband and spent several years there until she moved to Carlin, Nev., in 2005 to be closer to her grandchildren.

Dorothea had several hobbies and loves through out her life. They included years of painting and tap dancing. She enjoyed serving on clubs and organizations and dedicated many years to the Rebecca's and United Methodist Women's ministry.

Dorothea enjoyed entertaining guests and visitors, especially children who loved ice cream. She had a passion for traveling throughout the United States and abroad. Dorothea took pride in her heritage and sharing family roots with younger generations.

Dorothea was preceded in death by her husbands, Don Mecham, Dana D. Holbrook, Jr. and "Rudy" Ruddell; sister June Howard; mother Clara Stevenson; father Bill Stevenson; and son Don Holbrook.

Dorothea is survived by her brother Billy Stevenson; grandson Dana Holbrook (Brandy); grandson Jon Shirley (JoBeth); granddaughter Malinda "Mac" Holbrook; granddaughter Cinde Bissa; great-grandchildren Miranda Boni, Lindsey Bissa, Jessica Shirley, Kylie Bissa, Jordan Holbrook, Bradley Holbrook, Anna Shirley; longtime friend Paul Bartok and several nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at the Carlin United Methodist Church at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 11. Graveside service will be held at the Tonopah cemetery at 11 a.m. Monday. In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested to the Carlin United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 287, Carlin, NV 89822.

A memorial service will be held 10 a.m., Aug. 18, at United Methodist Church, 1300 E. Highway 372. (08/08/07)

Sherry Ann Ogden

Sherry Ann Ogden, 41, passed away August 14, 2007 in Pahrump.

Born in Seattle, Wash., she moved to Pahrump where she held residence for the last 10 years.

She worked as a caretaker and was a spiritualist.

Her mother, Ellen Jacobsen of Pahrump, brothers; Larry Jackson and Hollis Morgan both of Seattle, Wash., survive her.

She was preceded in death by her father, James L. Ogden.

Services are held within our hearts.
