Bret Lanny Gneiting

Bret Lanny Gneiting passed away February 15, 2013 at his home in Spring Creek Nevada from complications related to a rare medical condition that affected his heart. Bret was born in Idaho Falls, Idaho on May 19, 1965 to Lanny and Marilyn Gneiting. He was the oldest of five children and his growing up years were mostly spent in the Orem, Utah area where he attended Cherry Hill Elementary School, Lakeridge Jr. High School, and Mountain View High School.

After high school graduation in 1983, Bret served a full-time mission in London England for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Not long after returning from his mission, Bret met the love of his life, Natalie McDaniel of Blanding, Utah. Bret and Natalie were married in the Manti, Utah Temple on November 22, 1986. They have four children together.

Following their marriage, Bret joined the Navy where he earned a degree in nursing and served at the Pensacola Naval Hospital, in Pensacola, Florida from 1992 to 1996. After receiving an honorable discharge from the Navy, Bret and his family moved back to Utah for a few years where he pursued additional education, earning an MBA. Soon after that, he took advantage of a job opportunity in Winnemucca, Nevada. Bret's job in Winnemucca led to another opportunity in Spring Creek, Nevada where Bret and his family have resided since 2004.

Those who know Bret know that he is a jovial and gregarious person. His family, friends and acquaintances have all been blessed to experience his happy and optimistic attitude. Not many people have his ability to say things in a way or with a certain accent that always makes others laugh, but Bret could. Some of Bret's favorite jokes were the corny one-liners.

Next to God, his family, his friends and neighbors, Bret's other love was fishing and enjoying the beauties of God's creations. A few weeks ago Bret had mentioned that he now understood Christ's Atonement on a much more personal level. He would want everyone to know that he has a testimony that God, our Heavenly Father lives, that his son Jesus Christ lives, and that he suffered for the sins of all in the Garden of Gethsemane and was crucified unto death that he might loose the bands of spiritual and physical death for all mankind.

Bret is survived by his wife Natalie and his four children: Nicole, Brittany, Kenneth, and Katherine Gneiting; his parents, Lanny and Marilyn Gneiting and his siblings, David, Robert, and Matthew Gneiting, and Rebecca Gneiting Skinner.

A viewing and funeral services will be held on Thursday, February 21, 2013 at the Elko Stake Center Chapel, located at 1650 College Pkwy. The viewing will be from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. and the funeral service will start at 11:00 a.m. Bret will be laid to rest in the Orem City cemetery in Orem, Utah on Friday, February 22, 2013 at 1:00 p.m.

The family would like to express their deep gratitude and appreciation for the many acts of kindness they have received during this difficult time. The kindness shown will never be forgotten.

For those who wish to make a financial donation to the “Bret Gneiting Family Memorial Fund,” donations can be made at any Elko Federal Credit Union (EFCU) branch or checks and money orders can be mailed directly to a EFCU branch.
