Merlin M. Herrald II "Bullet"

August 8, 1980 - February 2, 2013

Merlin M. Herrald II “Bullet,” age 32 of Crescent Valley, Nevada, passed away on February 2, 2013 in Reno, Nevada.

He was born in Manteca, California, to Merlin and Debbie Herrald, of Valley Springs, California.

His family moved to Hawthorne, NV. in 1981, then to Lovelock, NV. in 1993.

Graduated from Pershing County High School, in Lovelock,NV., in 1998.

Married Amber Anelli, in Reno, NV, in 2006. He and his family moved to Kemmerer, WY. in 2008 and then to Crescent Valley, NV in 2009.

Merlin is survived by his four young children Jacee, Eko, Merlin and Ty Herrald, father Merlin Herrald of CA, parents Merlin and Debbie Addenbrooke of Crescent Valley, NV, brother Bernard Addenbrooke of Crescent Valley, NV, along with his grandparents, brothers, sisters, aunts, uncles and numerous cousins.

He was a devoted father and a beloved son.

The greatest joy in his life was his kids.

He enjoyed motorcycles, outdoor activities, sports and music.

He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

Merlin’s memorial service will be held 1:00 pm on February 23, 2013 at the Crescent Valley Community Center in Crescent Valley, Nevada.

There will be a potluck following the service.

Toni Saldaña Marin

Toni Saldaña Marin resident of Elko, NV, 46 years old of Guadalajara, Mexico passed in her sleep at home with family on Tuesday, February 5, 2013.

Survived by her beloved husband Saul Marin, children Jenni and Oscar Rosas, Tyra, Vanessa, Dennis Marin, father Salvador Saldaña, sisters: Vicki Romero, Lupe Saldaña, Chelo Saldaña, Leti Zepeda, Vicki Gilbert, brother: Ramon Saldaña, 5 grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.

preceded in death by her mother Antonia Saldaña and sister Juana Flores.

Viewing and funeral at St. Joseph's Church.

Viewing on Thursday 6:00 p.m. Mater Dei Hall, Mass Friday February 8, 2013 2:00 p.m.

Stephen (Steve) Floyd Searle

Stephen (Steve) Floyd Searle, 69, born in Long Beach, CA on 6/14/43 passed away from pneumonia at Highland Manor early morning Feb 3, 2013.

He worked at Red Lion for 25 years.

He served as an MP in the army and fought for our country on more then one occasion.

He was a well-known and loved member of Elko.

Survived by 5 siblings, Bill Fugar, Archie Searle, Helen Anderson, Velma [Melvin] Stewart, and Sharon [Larry] Fox; and by children Stephen Searle, Wendover, NV; Stephanie Fast, Las Vegas, NV; Samantha Searle, Yukon, OK; and Sarah [Chris] Payne, Oklahoma City, OK; and 10 grand children. preceded in death by parents, Floyd Searle and Verla Fugar, 2 brothers, Bob Fugar and Dave Fugar and son Sean Searle.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday 2/9/2013 at the VFW, 731 VFW Dr., Elko, NV.

It will be a potluck and bring your own bottle. Dress attire is casual.

Cathy Jean Wegman

February 1st, 2013 Cathy Jean Wegman began her journey home to her father and mother, Clayton and Fran Wegman.

Her children, brother, Sisters, grandchildren, and great granddaughter will continue with life's journey while holding her memory close to their hearts.

A celebration of her life will be held Thursday, February 7th, 6:00pm at Blooms & Grooms Chapel, 423 5th Street.

Rith Jerdon, longtime resident, dies at 72

Ruth Helen Muller Palmatier Fingar Jerdon, long-time Valley resident and frequent letter-writer to The Record-Courier, died at her home in Fish Springs April 6.

She was one of the last employees of the V&T Railroad before its demise in 1950.

She came to Nevada with her first husband, Ed Palmatier, in the late 1940s.

She and her second husband Jim Fingar moved to Carson Valley in 1951, and in 1962, they and their family homesteaded 160 acres in the Fish Springs area.

In 1969, she and Mr. Fingar took over the South Shell in Gardnerville, and it remained a family business until 1984.

She then became the "mail lady" between Minden and Bridgeport and worked her route for 17 years, delivering mail and anything else people needed along the way.

She also worked part-time at the Riverview Seven-11, where she loved to chat with patrons, and Farmers National Bank.

In 1981, she married George "Joe" Jerdon.

She was born to George Fritz Muller and Agnes Bergendahl Muller in Pine Plains, N.Y., Nov. 8, 1926, and was preceded in death by her parents and husbands Ed Palmatier and Jim Fingar.

Survivors include her husband Joe of Fish Springs; sons Philip Fingar of Gardnerville and George "Butch" Palmatier of Palm Desert, Calif.; daughter Helen "Cookie" Roulias of Reno; brother George Muller of Evanston, N.Y. and sister Doris Hoysradt of Pine Plains; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at Carson Valley Christian Center, 2221 Meridian Blvd., Gardnerville, with Pastor Emil Leising officiating, Thursday at 11 a.m.

Burial will be held following services at the Garden cemetery in Gardnerville.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Fish Springs Volunteer Fire Department, P.O. Box 218, Minden 89423.

Walton's Douglas County Mortuary is in charge of the arrangements.

Alan Cohen

Alan Sherman Cohen, 76, died on Nov. 17 at his Gardnerville home.

He was born in Denver, Colo., on Oct. 2, 1923, to Sam and Emma Fisher Cohen.

He served in the U.S. Air force during World War II and was a senior civilian official at Lowry Air Force Base in Denver for many years.

Mr. Cohen was a resident of Gardnerville for 30 years, coming from California.

His wife, Sable Cohen, died in 1996.

He is survived by his brother Mendel F. Cohen of Salt Lake City, Utah.

No services will be held.

FitzHenry's Carson Valley Funeral Home in Gardnerville and FitzHenry's Crematory in Carson City handled arrangements.

Floyd Sutton

Floyd J. Sutton, a Walker resident for 31 years, died on Nov. 20 in Reno at the age of 82.

He was born in Menlo, Kan., on March 31, 1917, to Walter and Ruth Griebel Sutton.

On March 31, 1937, he and Willetta M. Burkett were married in Phillipsburg, Kan.

Before moving to Walker, Calif., he resided in Long Beach, Calif., where he was an engineer for the Long Beach Fire Department fro 26 years.

Mr. Sutton enjoyed fishing and camping and loved working with his hands.

He was a member of the Antelope Valley Lions Club in Walker.

Surviving Mr. Sutton are his wife Willetta of Walker; daughter Sharon K. Cook of Walker and son Gary L. Sutton of Henderson; sisters Janice Barth of Longmont, Colo., and Connie Franklin of Phoenix, Ariz.; five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

No services will be held.

Memorial donations may be made to the Coleville High School Memorial Scholarship Fund, in care of the Bank of America, P.O. Box 517, Bridgeport, Calif. 95317.

FitzHenry's Carson Valley Funeral Home in Gardnerville and FitzHenry's Crematory in Carson City handled arrangements.

William Westermeyer Sr.

A memorial service for William Edward Westermeyer Sr., 77, will be held at a later date.

Mr. Westermeyer died on Nov. 19 at South Lake Tahoe.

He was born in Washington, D.C., on April 5, 1922, to Carl and Margaret Westermeyer.

He served in the Merchant Marines for three years and in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

On Dec. 23, 1948, he and Hazel M. Favre were married in Bethesda, Md.

They recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with a cruise to Alaska.

A resident of Gardnerville for 23 years, he had lived in Los Gatos, Calif., where he was a member of George E. Tutt Lodge #292 Free and Accepted Masons.

Mr. Westermeyer was a cartographer for 25 years with the American Automobile Association in San Francisco and for H.M. Gousha in San Jose, Calif.

He loved horse racing.

Predeceasing him were his parents and brother, Carl Westermeyer.

Survivors include his wife Hazel of Gardnerville; daughter Nancy E. Hahn of Minden and son William E. Westermeyer Jr. of Geneva, Switzerland; and sister Marie M. Westermeyer of Gardnerville.
