Laura Mae Scott (Hopper, Mooney)

Laura Mae Scott (Hopper, Mooney) of Crescent Valley passed away in a car accident on Thursday, July 1, 2004.

Laura Mae is survived by her husband, Kenneth Jay Scott; brother, Joel Mooney; children, Dale (wife Heidi), Todd, and Molly Hopper; and grandchildren, Trinity Hopper and Kayla Douglas.

She was preceded by her daughter, Amber Douglas (Hopper); sister, Margaret McCammond; and mother, Eleanor Mooney.

Graveside services will be held at Maiden's Grave, Beowawe, 10 a.m., July 9. Memorial services will be held at the home of Dale and Heidi Hopper at 10 a.m., July 17.

Donations can be made to the Crescent Valley Emergency Fund, 4-H Club or Historical Society, P.O. Box 211120, Crescent Valley, NV 89821.

Lillian E. Portlock

Lillian E. Portlock passed away peacefully at home on July 3, 2004. She was born June 11, 1921, to Edward and Katharine Rebmann Smith in Newark, N.J.

Survivors include sons, Eric Thierhause (and wife Gail) of Boise, Idaho, Claude Portlock of Elko, and Gerald Portlock of Sparks, Nev.; daughters, Christine Meier, Carol Meara (and husband Tom) of Sparks, Nev.; brother, Edward Smith of Florida; sisters, Jean (and husband Bill) Hunt of New Jersey, Marilyn Dey (and husband Clarence) of Florida; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by her husband, William C. Portlock, and a son, Karl Thierhause.

No local services are scheduled but private inurnment will be held at a later date in Bruneau, Idaho.

We'll love you forever.

Burns Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Joshua M. Irvin

Joshua Michael Irvin, age 15, died Sept.12, 2004, in an automobile accident.

Joshua was born Dec. 15, 1988 in Elko, Nev. Josh was the oldest son of Michael and Monica Irvin. Josh will be remembered for his beautiful dark eyes that always seemed to be twinkling and for his bashful smile. He was a wonderful son, brother, grandson, nephew, cousin and friend. He will be missed by all those that loved him.

Josh was currently a sophomore at Spring Creek High School; he was an athlete in baseball, wrestling, and high school rodeo. The highlights of his life were to go camping and hunting with his father and relatives on their annual hunting trips. He loved nothing more than to "hang out" with his cousin, Hesston Brock, whom he revered and looked up to.

Josh is survived by his parents, Michael Irvin of Spring Creek and Monica Irvin of Washington; stepmother, Christy Irvin of Spring Creek; siblings, Shane Irvin, Logan Irvin, Bodie Irvin, Masin Irvin, Paedin Irvin, Lundyn Irvin, all of Spring Creek; grandparents, Larry and Jody Irvin of Spring Creek; and Ramona Florez of Elko. He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Gene Florez.

Funeral services are scheduled for Friday, Sept. 17, 2004, at 10 a.m. at the Grace Baptist Church, Pastor Aaron Young officiating. Burial will follow in the Burns Memorial Garden.

In Josh's memory, donations can be made to a charity of the donor's choice.

Deon (Jocko) Rundle

Deon (Jocko) Rundle passed away Sept. 24, 2004, at his home in Sparks, Nev. He was born March 9, 1929, in Twin Falls, Idaho, but lived all of his life in northern Nevada. He was married to Lorraine Rundle who preceded him July 2, 2003, shortly after their 50th anniversary.

He is survived by daughters, Laurie Miller and (Norman) of Sparks, Nev., Daurie Bastian and (David) of Nampa, Idaho; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two brothers, Elwin Rundle, Sparks; and Dick Duval of Wells, Nev.; and a sister, Lettie Shelton of Wendover, Utah.

He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, a faithful temple worker in the Reno LDS Temple.

When Deon lived in Elko he was a member of the LDS 1st Ward and served in the bishopric. He worked for the State of Nevada Department of Transportation where he retired here in 1985. After his retirement they returned to their family in Sparks, Nev.

Deon loved the cowboy life and rode in the rodeos in his younger days. He grew up in Metropolis and the Wells area where he had such love for that area. His last visit there was May 2004. That evening he suffered a heart attack and never fully recovered.

Funeral services were held Sept. 30, 2004, at the LDS Church Sparks 3rd Ward. Interment followed at Mt. View Cemetery.

Jocko ... will truly be missed.

Norman Feasel

Norm Feasel, age 87, died Oct. 10, 2004, at Highland Manor in Elko. He was born May 27, 1917 in Tiffin, Ohio to Japhet and Vesta Feasel. He was one of 11 children. Norm left home at an early age and headed west to join the Conservation Corps Camps in Lamoille Canyon. He was drafted into the Army in 1945, one of 7 brothers drafted, and served as a cook for the troops at Ft. Meade, MD, for 18 months.

He later cooked for Grant Turner at "Grant's Café" in Elko before joining California Pacific Utilities phone company as a lineman. Norm worked for CPU for 41 years, retiring in 1982 as Construction Foreman. After his retirement in 1982, Norm rode a bus to Ohio to see his family. He enjoyed his cabin in Tuscarora, hunting and fishing with his son and grandkids and spending time with his family.

Norm was very active in the community and with his children's activities. He was a member of the early J.C.'s and the Knights of Columbus. He played the drums for the Shriner Arab parade band, under the direction of the late John Gammick. He was involved in the creation of the first Elko High School Booster Club (in fact, the first meeting was in his living room) and the creation of the first girl's softball teams.

Norm's favorite activity was barbecuing in Lamoille Grove for any organization that asked him, including the first barbecue for the Pine Lodge and all the Catholic Church Parish picnics.

Norm was a hard working, generous man who loved life and loved doing things for others.

He is survived by: one brother in Ohio; his wife, Mary; son, Steve and daughter, Karen Kump and their families of Elko and Carlin; 5 grandchildren; and 7 great-grandchildren.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, Oct. 14, 2004, at Burns Funeral Home from 3 p.m. until 5 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, Oct. 15, 2004, at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Father Jorge Herrera officiating. Burial will follow in the Elko City Cemetery.
