Sherman Lewis Butts
Sherman Lewis Butts, 46, died Dec. 7, 2004 at his residence in Elko.
He was born July 8, 1958 in Holbrook, Ariz. to Gilbert Lee and Orvella Allen Butts and had worked as a process foreman in the mining industry.
He moved to Elko in 1974. Sherman was a loving and caring man, and loved the outdoors very much.
He is survived by his mother, Orvella; son, Glenn Butts; daughter, Michelle Croney, and brothers, Leroy Butts, Don Butts, and Mike Butts; and a sister, Beverly Butts.
He was preceded in death by his father, Gilbert Lee Butts, and a brother, Robert Glen Butts.
As to the wishes of the family, no services will be held.
In his memory, donations may be sent to the American Cancer Society.
Otto C. Kaintz
Otto C. Kaintz, 79, Ft. Myers, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 7, 2004. He was born in Pittsburgh, Pa., and was an Army Air Corps veteran of the Pacific Theater in WW II.
Following his military service, he became a pilot with Capital Airlines in 1949, which later became United Airlines.
He flew with United until his retirement in 1984.
During his career, he was an active member in the Airline Pilots Association.
He and his wife came to Ft. Myers from Ben Avon, Pa., in 1999.
He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Ruth, 2 daughters, Rebecca Jane (Gerald) Wolfe, Miami, Fl., Caroline (Henry) Lee, Elko, Nev.; a son, Otto Kaintz, Irving, Tx.; a sister Edna Rippey, Butler, Pa.; 4 grandchildren, Bryce & Brett Wolfe and Tiffany & Whitney Lee.
Funeral services will be celebrated at the Ft. Myers Memorial Gardens Funeral Home on Saturday, Dec. 11, 2004, at 2:00 PM with visitation 2 hours prior to the services.
Interment will follow in the Ft. Myers Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
Walter James Hulery
Sunrise: May 28, 1924 - Sunset: Oct. 27, 2004
Walter James Hulery, 80, died peacefully on Oct. 27, 2004, in Elko County.
A lifelong Nevada resident, Walter loved its desert mountains and found complete contentment under its vast skies.
He valued honesty, integrity, loyalty, and had a generous nature that knew no limits.
He loved his family, friends, and found great joy in the eyes of children.
He loved life and looked forward to each new day, each new adventure, and brought a smile to every person he met.
He served in WWII as a Military Police Escort who transported German prisoners from Boston to the west coast and all points in between.
He also served in Europe and was part of numerous battles and engagements.
During the occupation of Germany he was a MP investigator and was honorably discharged from the U.S. Army as a Staff Sergeant.
Among his many medals, Walter was awarded the Purple Heart, two Bronze Stars and a Combat Infantry Badge.
After the war, Walter worked alongside his father as a U.S. Government trapper.
He then had various jobs as a miner, buckaroo, carpenter, fence builder, and bar owner.
He retired from the Nevada State Highway Department after 25 years.
Walter is preceded in death by his parents Mort and Genevive "Ted" Hulery, step-mother Helen Hulery, sisters Ruth Vega and Dorothy Holmes, second wife Jody Hulery and third wife Delores Hulery.
Walter is survived by his children Mike Arruti, Vicki Cisna, Debra Diehl and Heidi Franz-Garrison; his brothers Tom Hulery, Jerry Hulery; sisters Marie Bittman and Tonita Givens; and several nieces and nephews.
He was also blessed with several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held Friday, Nov. 19, 2004 at the Red Lion Hotel in Winnemucca at 11 a.m.
A luncheon will be provided immediately following the service.
Sandra Garrison-Cooper
Sandra Garrison-Cooper of Crescent Valley lost her battle with cancer on Nov. 12, 2004, in Reno, Nev., at the age of 55.
She is proceeded in death by her loving husband, James Cooper.
Sandra is survived by her mother, Darlyne Clark, of Crescent Valley; father, William Garrison, of Williams, Calif..; son, Shawn Hull, of Redding, Calif.; daughter, Joy Hull, of Grants Pass, Ore. and grandchildren. She is also survived by her sisters, Crickett Spyres and Belinda Titus of Colusa, Calif., and Pamm Stadick of Portland, Emma Armstrong and Little Fred of Crescent Valley, Nev.; and brother, Charles Armstrong of Elko, Nev.
Sandra often said there was something spiritual about living in the valley and she loved it here.
Sandra had a passion for genealogy research and made valuable contributions to record her family history and linage.
Memorial services were held on Thursday, Nov. 18, 2004, at the Crescent Valley Park officiated by her step-father David Armstrong, a VFW Chaplin.
Ione Glaser
Ione Glaser, formerly of Elko, passed away in Roseville, Calif., on Saturday, Nov. 20, 2004. She was 83 years old.
Ione was born Jan. 21, 1921, in San Jose, Calif., to James and Hazel Parker.
She married Loran Glaser in July of 1938 in Eureka, Nev.
They were married 65 years before his death in October of 2003.
Loran and his brother, Darlow, owned the pioneer Glaser Family Ranch in Elburz, Nev., until 1971 when the families moved to California.
On their Roseville ranch they raised and showed cutting horses for many years.
Ione is survived by her son, Richard Glaser (Jane); daughter, Sheryl Guldager; brother-in-law, Darlow Glaser (Elaine), all of Roseville; brother, Bud Parker (Bernice) of Edmonds, Wash.; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; several great-great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. Ione also had many friends and relatives in Elko and Roseville.
At her request no services will be held. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in her name to the Northeastern Nevada Museum, 1515 Idaho St., Elko, NV 89801.
