Ella Mae Hone
Ella Mae (Penn) Hone, 76, passed away on Dec. 1, 2004 at Nathan Adelson Hospice in Las Vegas following a lengthy illness. She was born in Sacramento Pass, Nev. on Feb. 6, 1928, to David and Eva Ireta Carling Kerr.
Ella Mae attended grade school in Ely and graduated from White Pine High School in 1946. While living in Ely, she was employed by Troy Laundry, East Ely Pharmacy and Great Basin Laundry.
Ella Mae enjoyed spending time with her husband and family. She enjoyed listening to music, reading, doing her crafts, spending time traveling and camping. She belonged to the McGill Rebekah Lodge and the Ely Riding Club.
She is survived by her husband of 28 years, Lee Hone of Pioche; son, Robert D. (Terri) Penn of Cleburne, Texas; two grandsons, Joshua Penn of Elko and Scott (Kelly) Penn and a great-granddaughter, Kailey of Germany; stepchildren, Darlene Welch of Phoenix, Ariz.; Dennis (Darla) Hone of Peoria, Ariz.; Deanna (Will) Bayas of Topeka, Kan.; seven step-grandchildren and two step-great-grandchildren; brother, Duane (Kareen) Kerr of Ely; sister, Margie Hoots of McGill; sister-in-law, Olivemae Kerr of Ely; numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, five brothers and two sisters.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 7, at 11 a.m. at Mountain Vista Chapel in Ely with a viewing one hour prior to services. A viewing will also be held on Monday, Dec. 6, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Wiscombe Funeral Home in Caliente. Interment will be in the Ely Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Wiscombe Funeral Home in Caliente.
Rita Edna Hernandez
Rita Edna Hernandez, 82-year-old Blackfoot and Fort Hall area resident, died late Friday, Dec. 3, 2004, at the Portneuf Medical Center from causes due to cancer.
She was born Feb. 1, 1922, in Austin, Nev. She is the daughter of Bud Roberts and Elsie Gilbert Roberts.
She spent her early years in Austin and later attended grade schools at the Rabbit Creek Grade School near Lamoile, Nev. She started high school in Elko, Nev., and completed high school at the Sherman Indian School in Riverside, Calif. She took some college courses while living in San Francisco and also worked part time as a nanny.
She married Domingo "Fred" Hernandez, in October of 1949, in Elko, Nev. They initially established their home in the Fort Hall area and have lived at their present home, "The Farm," in Gibson since 1960.
She was a member of the Roman Catholic Church and has attended at the Kateri Tekakwitha Chapel in Fort Hall since it was established. She has volunteered many hours helping the church and also in the Catholic Booth at the Fair.
She had worked as a cook for ranch hands in her early life for various ranches in Nevada. In 1948 she relocated to southeast Idaho, initially working as a bookkeeper for Garrett Freight Lines. She also worked for the Shoshone Bannock Tribes and spent her last 29 years of employment working as the I.I.M. clerk for the Bureau of Indian Affairs.
She loved her family and enjoyed knitting, arts and crafts and crocheting her signature snowflakes. She was a very giving individual dedicating her time to taking care of various sick and elderly persons during her adult life.
She is survived by her husband, Domingo "Fred" Hernandez; one daughter, Julia Moss, and her husband Blaine Dixey; two sons, Fredrick A. "Sam" Hernandez and wife Iola, and Phillip Hernandez, all of Gibson. Also surviving are 11 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren and two sisters Teresa (Frank) Lespade of Elko, Nev., and Lyda Roberts of Fort Hall.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one daughter, Teresa Renee Hernandez; and one brother, Jack Roberts.
A vigil service will be held Wednesday, Dec. 8, 2004, at 6 p.m. at the Hawker Funeral Home, 132 S. Shilling Ave, Blackfoot. The family will continue to meet with friends following the vigil service for a viewing until 9 p.m.
Following the vigil service cremation will take place and then a funeral mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 9, 2004, at the Kateri Tekakwitha Catholic Church located at Sheepskin and "D" Streets in Fort Hall, with Father Rob Cook as Celebrant.
Following the mass, interment services will take place in the Mission Cemetery in Fort Hall.
All services are under the direction of Hawker Funeral Home.
Mary Sabala
Mary Sabala, 85, Pocatello resident, passed away at a Pocatello, Idaho, care center following an illness Dec. 8, 2004. She was born Oct. 23, 1919 in Elko, Nev. to Martin and Ramona Arriaga Etchepare. She married Joseph Sabala August 20, 1940. They lived in Pocatello for 20 years, as well as having lived in California, Nevada and Oregon. They moved back to Pocatello in 1997.
She was a member of Holy Spirit Catholic Community. Mary was a very social person and loved by many.
Mary is survived by her brother, Ray Juaristi of Pocatello; grandson, Joe Lockwood; granddaughter Naomi Christensen; and nieces Virginia Stroschein and Leta Rowley.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Joe; son, Tony Sabala; daughter, Karen Lockwood; brother, Pete Etchepare and Sister Elaine Hall.
The funeral mass will be celebrated 10 a.m., Monday, Dec. 13, 2004 at Holy Spirit Catholic Community, St. Joseph's Chapel, 439 North Hayes in Pocatello. A vigil service will be held at 7 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 12, 2004 at Downard Hansen Funeral Home, 241 North Garfield. Burial will be at Mountain View Cemetery.

Edna K. Rasley
Edna K. Rasley, 84, peacefully passed at home on Dec. 8, 2004 from natural causes.
Born April 1, 1920 to the Nevada pioneer family of Jesse and Ellen Montrose, in Oreana (Lovelock), she was reared, and went to school, in Lovelock.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Jack and James (Chip), son Hallie, grandson Kerry and nephew James Montrose.
She is survived by her husband, Kenneth (Raz) Rasley; brother, Alfred Montrose of Fallon; daughters, Bonny Boehler and Mary Van Blarcom; grandchildren, Tim Cress and Lee Giusti of Elko, Alyce, Lisa, Lori, Doris and Marla of Oregon; Danny and John of Alaska; nephew, Jack Montrose and niece Karen Holcher of Fallon; and Cathy Brown of Dayton; nephews, Mike Montrose of Arizona and Hugh Montrose of Lovelock. Edna had ll great-grandchildren.
"Ed" was an avid bass fisherman, golfer and trophy trap shooter. She enjoyed bowling, gardening, dancing and socializing. Until retiring, Raz (Kenneth) and Edna spent most of their married life traveling throughout the state on highway construction jobs. Edna always said she had "numerous orders to give before going," however, she ran out of time. To do so, she would have needed another year at least!
At Edna's request, there will be no services.
In her memory, the family suggests donations to a favorite charity.
