Bruce Nystrom

Bruce James Nystrom, 55, a Gardnerville Ranchos resident for the past 24 years, died Nov. 8, 1999, at his residence. He was born Nov. 9, 1943, in North Hollywood, Calif., to Herbert and Jean Boston Nystrom.

He married Mary Jean on May 11, 1975, in Zephyr Cove.

Before moving to Gardnerville, he lived in Covina, Calif.

Mr. Nystrom was a technical representative for Xerox for 35 years. He was a member of the Ranchos Volunteer Fire Department for 24 years, serving as president for most of those years and as chief engineer and training officer. He was a trustee and chairman of the board of Gardnerville Ranchos General Improvement District. He enjoyed his family, gardening and especially growing his own grapes and making his own wine.

He served in the U.S. Navy.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Jean, in 1996.

Among his survivors are his wife, Mary Jean (MJ) of Gardnerville; son Eric of Las Vegas; daughter Melissa Salmon of Los Alamos, N.M. and Gretchen of Gardnerville; father Herbert of Gardnerville; and two grandchildren

No service is scheduled.

Walton's Carson Sierra Crematory and Capitol City Cremation and Burial Society handled arrangements.

Arvie Frazier

A funeral service for Arvie Mae Frazier, 87, was held on Nov. 11, 1999. at FitzHenry's Carson Valley Funeral Home in Gardnerville. Inurnment followed at Eastside Memorial Park in Minden.

Mrs. Frazier died on Nov. 9, 1999 at Valley Meadows Living Center in Gardnerville.

She was born in Sparks, Okla., on May 5, 1912, to James and Mary Ferguson Durbin.

Mrs. Frazier was a resident of Gardnerville for 15 years, coming from Montrose, Colo.

She loved country music and enjoyed being with her family.

She was married to Haskell Rich of Yerington, who died on May 1, 1988, and to Owen Frazier, who died on Nov. 16, 1993.

Also predeceasing Mrs. Frazier were her parents, daughter Joy Bernice Miller, son Ernest Gene Rich, two brothers and four sisters.

Survivors include her daughters Darlene Tea of Gardnerville and Loydell Warkentin of Shade Cove, Ore., and sons Haskell Rich Jr., of Carson City, Robin Rich of Yreka, Calif., and Jerry Rich of Pilot Hill, Calif.; sister Evelyn of Oklahoma City, Okla.; 15 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

Theresa Kelly

A memorial service for Theresa A. Kelly, 80, will be held today, Nov. 13, 1999, at 2 p.m. at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses on Kimmerling Road in Gardnerville.

Mrs. Kelly died on Nov. 9 at Lifecare Center in Reno.

She was born in New York, N.Y., on April 13, 1919, to Frank and Emma Sperling Ford.

Mrs. Kelly was a resident of Gardnerville for 10 years, coming from Midland, Texas.

She enjoyed doing things for senior citizens and loved doing crafts and chair recaning.

Predeceasing her were her parents, a sister, one grandchild and her husband Robert B. Kelly, who died in January 1989 in Gardnerville.

Surviving are sons Richard Kelly of Gardnerville and Michael Kelly of Reno and daughters Judy Ostrem of Gardnerville and Patricia Ben of Las Vegas; sister Lydia Kubiak of Florida; 11 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Takashi Murakami

Takashi Murakami, 81, died on Nov. 8, 1999 at Valley Meadows Living Center in Gardnerville.

A memorial service will be held at a later date in San Francisco, where he was born on Jan. 23, 1918.

He and Toshiye Nagasugi were married on March 11, 1944, at Ft. Thomas, Ky.

Mr. Murakami served in the U.S. Army during World War II and retired from Pan American Airways. He had also been a communications specialist for the University of California at Berkeley for 10 years.

He loved traveling and marketing Pan Am.

Mr. Murakami is survived by his wife, Toshiye, of Minden.

Cheryl Sellers

Services for Cheryl Jeanne Darrough Sellers, 50, of Reno, will be held today, Nov. 13, 1999 at 2 p.m. at Walton's Chapel in Sparks.

Mrs. Sellers died on Nov. 7 at St. Mary's Hospital in Reno.

She was born on March 14, 1949, in Ventura, Calif., to Robert and Jeanette Darrough.

She spent her childhood in Ventura and lived in Conroe, Texas, Lake Tahoe and Camino, Calif., before moving to Northern Nevada in 1992.

She was an artist and executive host in the gaming industry.

Predeceasing Mrs. Sellers were her parents.

Survivors include her husband, Roben of Reno; sons Daylen of Reno and Dustin of Ventura; grandsons Forrest and Colton; brothers Jim Darrough of Minden, Dale Darrough of Baton Rouge, La., and Robert Darrough of Stateline; two daughters-in-law; and nine nephews and nieces.

Memorial donations may be made to the American Liver Foundation Donor Awareness Program.

Alan Cohen

Alan Sherman Cohen, 76, died on Nov. 17, 1999 at his Gardnerville home.

He was born in Denver, Colo., on Oct. 2, 1923, to Sam and Emma Fisher Cohen.

He served in the U.S. Air force during World War II and was a senior civilian official at Lowry Air Force Base in Denver for many years.

Mr. Cohen was a resident of Gardnerville for 30 years, coming from California.

His wife, Sable Cohen, died in 1996.

He is survived by his brother Mendel F. Cohen of Salt Lake City, Utah.

No services will be held.

Floyd Sutton

Floyd J. Sutton, a Walker resident for 31 years, died on Nov. 20, 1999 in Reno at the age of 82.

He was born in Menlo, Kan., on March 31, 1917, to Walter and Ruth Griebel Sutton.

On March 31, 1937, he and Willetta M. Burkett were married in Phillipsburg, Kan.

Before moving to Walker, Calif., he resided in Long Beach, Calif., where he was an engineer for the Long Beach Fire Department fro 26 years.

Mr. Sutton enjoyed fishing and camping and loved working with his hands.

He was a member of the Antelope Valley Lions Club in Walker.

Surviving Mr. Sutton are his wife Willetta of Walker; daughter Sharon K. Cook of Walker and son Gary L. Sutton of Henderson; sisters Janice Barth of Longmont, Colo., and Connie Franklin of Phoenix, Ariz.; five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

No services will be held.

Memorial donations may be made to the Coleville High School Memorial Scholarship Fund, in care of the Bank of America, P.O. Box 517, Bridgeport, Calif. 95317.

William Westermeyer Sr.

A memorial service for William Edward Westermeyer Sr., 77, will be held at a later date.

Mr. Westermeyer died on Nov. 19, 1999 at South Lake Tahoe.

He was born in Washington, D.C., on April 5, 1922, to Carl and Margaret Westermeyer.

He served in the Merchant Marines for three years and in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

On Dec. 23, 1948, he and Hazel M. Favre were married in Bethesda, Md. They recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with a cruise to Alaska.

A resident of Gardnerville for 23 years, he had lived in Los Gatos, Calif., where he was a member of George E. Tutt Lodge #292 Free and Accepted Masons.

Mr. Westermeyer was a cartographer for 25 years with the American Automobile Association in San Francisco and for H.M. Gousha in San Jose, Calif.

He loved horse racing.

Predeceasing him were his parents and brother, Carl Westermeyer.

Survivors include his wife Hazel of Gardnerville; daughter Nancy E. Hahn of Minden and son William E. Westermeyer Jr. of Geneva, Switzerland; and sister Marie M. Westermeyer of Gardnerville.
