Cleo Peterson Tidwell

In loving memory, Cleo Tidwell has left our presence to be with her long lost husband, David Tidwell and her son, Gary Tidwell.

Born, August 19, 1912, in Richfield, Utah, daughter of Hans and Eunice Martina Wilkinson Peterson. Active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Cleo has left a great legacy of love.

Survived by her daughter, Betty Johnson, son-in-law, Merlin Johnson; 5 grandchildren: 1 great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Friday (Nov. 23), 2:00 p.m. at McDougal Funeral Home, 4330 South Redwood Road where friends may call 1-1:45 p.m. prior to services.

Interment, Moroni City Cemetery.

Vera Leona Egge

Vera Leona Egge of Ely died Friday, Nov. 29, 2002, at the White Pine Care Center. She was 93.

Mrs. Egge was born Feb. 22, 1909, in Hardington, Neb. She attended a rural school in the area. Her family moved to Wood Lake, Neb., where she lived in a sod house on the family homestead until 1918.

Her parents died that year in a flu epidemic and she was raised by her grandparents.

She married Norman Egge in Moorhead, Minn., on March 23, 1927. Shortly after they married, they moved to North Dakota where they farmed for 20 years. In 1950, they moved back to Minnesota where they operated another farm until 1976 when they moved to Henning, Minn.

There, they operated a small motor repair shop. While in Henning, Mrs. Egge worked at the senior citizen center and did housework.

In the early '80s, she moved to Tower City, N.D., and from there, in 1992, she moved to Las Vegas, where she lived until moving to Ely in 1999.

She enjoyed painting and sewing.

Mrs. Egge was preceded in death by her husband, a son and three daughters.

She is survived by a son, Norton (Erma) Egge, of Ruth; a brother, Allan (Ann) Tack of Beaverton, Ore; and a sister, Alma Hummel of Cushing, Iowa. Survivors include nine grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, four great, great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Services were conducted at Mountain Vista Chapel in Ely. A service also is being scheduled in Henning at the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, with burial to follow in the United Lutheran Cemetery.

Neta Craw

Neta Craw of Ely died Friday, Feb. 16, 2001, at William Bee Ririe Hospital. She was 77.

Mrs. Craw was born in Greenville, Utah, on May 22, 1923, to Rulon and Velma (Scott) Murdock. She attended school in Beaver, Utah.

She had lived in this area since 1955.

Her marriage with Frank Craw was solemnized in the Saint George LDS Temple on July 21, 1978.

He preceded her in death, as did her parents, a sister and two brothers.

Survivors include a granddaughter, Cheryl (Michael) Rackley of Portland, Ore., two grandsons: Frank (Lachelle) Craw and Stan Craw, both of Ely; one great granddaughter; four great, great grandsons; a great, great granddaughter; a nephew; a cousin; and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation is scheduled Tuesday, Feb. 20, 10-10:45 a.m., at the Ely Nevada Stake Center of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Services are to follow there in the chapel at 11 a.m. with Bishop Stuart Tracey presiding.

Burial is to follow in the Ely City Cemetery.

Noble Wayne Summers

Noble Wayne Summers of Atlanta, Mo., died in Columbia, Mo., on Saturday, Nov. 17, 2001. He was 77.

Mr. Summers was born April 17, 1924. He married the former Margaret Gabriel in St. Louis, Mo.

Survivors include his son and wife, Wayne and Shirley Summers of Ely and their children, Caitlin and Adam.

Graveside services were conducted Tuesday, Nov. 20, at the Jefferson Barracks Cemetery in St. Louis.

Janet Lyn (Lee) Craig

Janet Lyn (Lee) Craig of Reno died Sunday, May 26, 2002, at home. She was 53.

Mrs. Craig was born at Steptoe Valley Hospital in Ely on July 24, 1948, to James and Joyce Pope Lee.

She attended the local school system and after graduation from White Pine High School, she enlisted in the U.S. Army.

At the age of 25, she moved from Ely to Reno, where she worked at the Cal Neva off and on for 22 years.

She enjoyed singing and visiting with family and freinds.

She is survived by two sons: Rick Craig and Dan Jarvis, both of Reno; four sisters: Carrie Ann Entiles of Sun Valley, Laura Lanier and Sarah Lee, both of Carson City, and Cheryl O'Rear of Ely; three grandsons: Sean, Brandon and Tommy Craig; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Services were scheduled Friday in Ely at 11 a.m. at the United Methodist Church. Rev. Angelo Fazio was to preside.

She was to be inurned at the Ely City Cemetery.

Bertie Mae Barainca

Former Ely resident Bertie Mae Barainca died Saturday, June 3, 2000, at Elko General Hospital. She was 78.

Mrs. Barainca was born in Klamath Falls, Ore., on April 7, 1922, to James Albert and Jessie Smith Franklin.

She had lived in Elko for the past five years, moving there from Eureka. Before that she lived in Ely for 30 years.

She had worked as a cook for the school system and was a member of the Basque Club, VFW Auxiliary and the hospital Pink Ladies.

Mrs. Barainca enjoyed cooking, crocheting, gardening and bread making.

She is survived by three sons: Clifford M. Martin of San Diego, Calif., Torie Barainca of Craig, Colo., and Jon Barainca of Ely; a daughter, Ardina Areitio of Elko; 14 grandchildren; and one great grandchild. She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, two sisters and a sin and a daughter.

Menorial services will be announced at a later date. Burial is to be held in the Austin Cemetery in Austin.

Amadeo "Lee' Lucero

Amadeo "Lee" Lucero, 63, a resident of Silver City, N.M., entered eternal rest on Saturday, November 17, 2001 at the family home.

Calling hours will be Tuesday, November 20, 2001 from 4-6 p.m. at Baca's Funeral Chapels followed by the prayer vigil beginning at 7 o'clock led by Deacon Bill Holguin. The funeral liturgy will be celebrated on Wednesday, November 21, 2001 at 10 o'clock in the morning at St. Francis Newman Center Parish with Father Marcos Reyna officiating.

The rite of committal and interment will follow at Memory Lane Cemetery where he will be laid to rest.

He was born November 15, 1938 in Taos, N.M., to Arturo and Loren (Graham) Lucero. He married his wife, Nancy on March 5, 1958 in Ely and retired from Phelps Dodge as a drill mechanic in 1999. He was a member of the Moose Lodge, Silver Sam's Chapter.

He enjoyed fishing, hunting, working on his yard and cars, working in his garage and giving orders. He especially liked being with his favorite great-grandson, Rickki.

Lee is survived by his loving wife, Nancy of the home; son, Shawn Lucero of Las Vegas; daughters, Janet Lucero and companion Rudy "Huero" Holguin of Silver City, N.M., and Rhonda Gonzales and husband Danny of Eureka; brothers, Clearance Lucero and wife Olivama of Corpus Christi, Texas, and Roger Lucero of Albuquerque; sisters, Minnie Jones and husband Jimmy of Tooele, Utah, Jeannie Murillo and husband Jose, Jr. of Albuquerque, Loretta Lucero also of Tooele and Kimberly Badillo and husband James of Yuma, Ariz.

He is also survived by two aunts, Gertude Aragon and Eva Rodriguez who he loved and looked to like his mother both of Tooele; two uncles, Gilbert Graham and Arturo Graham. Granddaughter, Patricia Gonzalez; great-grandchildren, Rickki Castillo, Iziah Garcia and Victoria Lee Langstom also survive him.

His parents and a sister, Mabel Lucero procede him in death.

Casket bearers will be Arturo and Billy Graham, Sixto Duran, Joe Lucero, Dan Marrufo and Leroy Suazo.

Honorary bearer will be his uncles and cousins.

Leon D. Muir

Venice, Utah - Leon David Muir, age 79, of Venice, Utah, died Tuesday, December 18, 2001 in Richfield, Utah. after a lingering illness.

He was born January 13, 1922 in Beaver, Utah, a son of James Christopher and Ruth Evelyn Bradshaw Muir.

He attended schools in Beaver and worked on farms and cut cedar posts and timber on the Beaver Mountain.

He had a model A Ford and would drive to Richfield chasing girls. There he met Dora Hurdsman and they were married on February 10, 1940 at the Bishop's home in Richfield.

They lived in Beaver and he continued working on Beaver Mountain in the timber. Leon also worked at the fish hatchery in Beaver.

He joined the U.S. Navy as a Seabee during World War II and was stationed in San Diego, Okinawa and the South Pacific.

After the war he moved to Sulfurdale, Utah and worked for the mine. Later Leon and Dora moved to Richfield and he worked for Pearson and Croft as an apprectice plumber.

Then he worked at the Gypsum Plant in Sigurd, Utah. When the Gypsum Plant went on strike in 1954, Leon moved his family to McGill, Nevada, where he worked for Kennecott Copper Corp. as a pipe fitter and oiler until he retired in 1979.

Leon loved living in Nevada and enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and picking pine nuts.

Leon and Dora moved back to Venice in 1985 to be closer to their family. Leon enjoyed doing activities with his family and his brother, Irving.

He was a member of LDS Church.

He is survived by his wife of Venice; children: Beverly and Bob Pond, Gene and LuWanna Muir, all of Venice; Wayne and Jorja Muir, Steven and Connie Muir, all of Elko, Nevada; 12 grandchildren: Emily and John Hoover, Kimberlee Muir, Beverlee Muir, Jeff Muir, Kenny Muir, William Muir, Travis and Jackie Muir, Stewart Ivy, Larry and Shelly Ivy, Brent and Mary Ivy, Mark and Brandi Ivy, Dorean and Jimmy Tutor; 20 great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters: Irving Muir of Richfield; Henry Muir of Salt Lake City; Annabelle Stow of Fairfield, CA; Ellen Bayles of Parowan, UT; and Betty Behrendsen of Denver, Colo. He was preceded in death by his parents; two grandchildren: David G. Muir and Nancy F. Muir; one brother and two sisters: John Muir, Darrol Muir and Ione Yardley.

Private family funeral services were held Thursday, December 20, 2001 in the Springer Turner Funeral Home Chapel in Richfield, Utah. At his request, Leon wanted to be cremated and that took place in Salt Lake City on Friday, December 21.

Burial will take place in the Venice Cemetery, Venice, Utah at a later date.

Funeral Directors: Springer Turner Funeral Home of Richfield and Salina, Utah.
