John 'Yimmer' Yim

A memorial service for John "Yimmer" Yim, 54, a lifetime Gardnerville resident, will be at 3 p.m. today at Walton's Chapel of the Valley.

Visitation will be from noon-3 p.m. today at Walton's.

Mr. Yim died Oct. 20, 2004, in Gardnerville. He was born July 23, 1950, in Reno, to Fawn and Annie Chang Yim.

He married Debra Lee on July 31, 1977, in Carson City.

Mr. Yim was employed by Polyphaser in Minden. He enjoyed bowling and fishing.

He served in the U.S. Army.

He was preceded in death by his father.

Among his survivors are his wife and son, Patrick, both of Gardnerville; mother, of Minden, and sister, Kathy Goding of Woodland, Calif.

Cremation will be in Walton's Sierra Crematory.

Walton's Chapel of the Valley is in charge of arrangements.

Michael Noran 'Mike' Ruden

A graveside service for Michael Noran "Mike" Ruden, 47, a Reno resident for the past 15 years and Carson City resident for the previous 15 years, will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Walton's Carson Gardens Cemetery.

A gathering of family and friends will be at Noran Ruden's home after the service.

Mr. Ruden died Oct. 18, 2004, in Virginia City. He was born Dec. 4, 1956, in Cheyenne, Wyo., to Noran and Vada Metheny Ruden.

Mr. Ruden was a body and fender specialist in auto repairing. He loved the Sierra Nevada, the out-of-doors and animals. He enjoyed cutting firewood and restored many classic cars for family and friends. He attended the Salvation Army church.

He served in the U.S. Navy.

Among his survivors are his father and stepmother, Carol; brothers Clifford of Cold Springs and Glenn of Sparks; sister, Cindy Ruden of Cheyenne, Wyo.; aunt, Rose Howland of Ramona, Calif. and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Salvation Army, 1931 Sutro St., Reno, NV 89512.

Walton's Chapel of the Valley is in charge of arrangements.

Earl McNay Rowan

A funeral for Carson City resident Earl McNay Rowan, 69, will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Walton's Chapel of the Valley with the Rev. Bruce Kochsmeier officiating.

Visitation is 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday at Walton's. Inurnment will be 3 p.m. Nov. 4 at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Glendale, Calif.

Mr. Rowan died Oct. 21, 2004, at Evergreen Carson City Care Center. A lifelong resident of Nevada, he was born Nov. 4, 1934, in Ruth to Harlan Rowan and Mildred McNay.

He married Judy on March 31, 2001, in Carson City.

Mr. Rowan graduated from White Pine High School in Ely and the University of Southern California with a degree in business administration. He worked for the state of Nevada Gaming Control Board for 19 years.

He enjoyed reading and golf. He loved to travel and was a fan of USC football.

He was preceded in death by his parents and first wife, Dorothy Cobb Rowan.

He is survived by his wife, Judy of Carson City; son and daughter-in-law Ron and Stacy Rowan of Las Vegas; son Scott Rowan of Carson City; daughter, Julie Rowan of Reno; step-daughter, Penny Hughes of Washington state; four grandchildren; and two step-grandchildren.

James D. Pitts

A celebration of life for James D. Pitts, M.D., 65, a Nevada native, will be from 11:30 a.m.-2 p.m. Thursday at the Station Grill & Rotisserie, 900 S. Carson St.

Dr. Pitts died Oct. 22, 2004, in Carson City. He was born June 25, 1939, in McGill to Darrell and Betty Jo Pitts.

He graduated from Basic High School in Henderson in 1957, from the University of Oregon in 1961, and from the University of Oregon School of Medicine in 1965. He moved to Fresno, Calif., for his internship and surgical residency.

Dr. Pitts set up his surgical practice with Carson Surgical Group in 1972, and has practiced medicine in Carson City since that time. He was president of the State Medical Association 1980-1981 and Carson-Tahoe Hospital's chief of staff 1974-1975 and 1984-1985. He served on the admissions committee for the University of Nevada School of Medicine 1985-1986 and held various offices and titles.

He served in the 101st Airborne Division in Vietnam as a doctor.

Among his survivors are his wife of 44 years, Carol, son and daughter-in-law Dr. Todd and Terry and daughter and son-in-law Kathryn and Steve Haas, all of Carson City; grandsons Anthony and Derreck; mother and brothers Jon and David, all of Las Vegas; stepgrandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Carson-Tahoe Foundation with a memo to specify for the new cancer center at Carson-Tahoe Hospital, P.O. Box 2168, Carson City, NV 89702.

Shirley Joan James

Shirley Joan James, 79, of Mound House died Oct. 14, 2004, in Mound House.

She was born Feb. 27, 1925, in Illinois to Withney Sapp and Ellen Alameda Wodten James.

She moved from Pasadena to the Carson City area in 1993.

Mrs. James retired from the postal service in Glendale, Calif. She devoted her life to the care of all animals. She was very involved in the Senior Companion Program in Carson City.

She was preceded in death by her sister, Janis Ellen Atwell.

Among her survivors are her nephew and wife, Michael Neal and Barbara Atwell of Lake Tahoe; great-nieces Lara Michael Atwell of Kansas and Sara Hunter Atwell of Las Vegas; great-nephew, Duncan Neal and great-great-niece Emma Kaye Atwell, both of Sacramento.

Memorial contributions may be made to Lyon County Animal Services, 3705 Highway 50 W., Silver Springs, NV 89429; or to an animal-care program of your choice.

FitzHenry's Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Richard Francis Thomas

A service for Richard Francis Thomas, 69, of Gardnerville will be at 4 p.m. Saturday at the United Methodist Church in Gardnerville.

Mr. Thomas died Oct. 13, 2004, at home. He was born July 5, 1935, in Berkeley, Calif.

He was a high school graduate.

Mr. Thomas was an escrow officer. He was a member of Kiwanis.

Among his survivors are his wife, Florence Lorraine.

Cremation will be at Walton's Sierra Crematory.

Allan D. Pratt

Allan D. Pratt, 66, a Minden resident for the past two years, died Oct. 23, 2004, in Minden. He was born April 18, 1938, in Warrensburg, N.Y., to Walter J. and Mary M. Pratt.

He attended the University of Wisconsin and Penn State University and graduated from San Jose State University.

Before moving to Minden, he lived in Sedona, Ariz., for six years.

He married Karen Brunory Sept. 22, 1978, in Santa Cruz, Calif.

Mr. Pratt was a commercial pilot for United Airlines for 30 years. He was a member of the Minden Soaring Club and served on the board of the Sedona Airport.

He served in the U.S. Air Force.

Among his survivors are his wife and son Devin, both of Minden; son Loren of Mesa, Ariz.; brothers David of Florida and Stephen of Japan; and sisters Nancy and Wendy, both of Florida, and Valerie of Arizona.

A private family service will be held.

Lena Perri Griffin

A Mass for Lena Perri Griffin, 91, a native Nevadan, will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Church.

A rosary will be said at 7 p.m. Thursday at St. Teresa.

Mrs. Griffin died Oct. 25, 2004. She was born Nov. 27, 1912, in Yerington to Vittorio and Veronica Giovanola Pirazzi.

She grew up in Yerington and attended the University of Nevada, graduating in 1933. She also earned a bachelor's and master's degree in library science from the University of Nevada.

She married John M. Griffin Sept. 17, 1938, in Reno.

After teaching in Yerington, Mrs. Griffin moved to Carson City and continued teaching. After her children were in school, she resumed her career, working as the librarian for Carson City Middle School until her retirement.

She was an active member of St. Teresa and was affiliated with the Kappa Alpha Theta Sorority and the Carson City Retired Teachers Association. After her retirement, she volunteered as a library assistant at St. Teresa's Elementary School.

She enjoyed worldwide travel, bridge, extensive reading and her friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband March 15, 1982; brothers Peter and Johnny, both of Yerington; and sister, Mary, of San Jose, Calif.

Among her survivors are her sons and daughters-in-law John and Marjorie of Carson City, Tim and Pamela of Sparks and Michael and Jill of Carson City; son Patrick of Sparks; grandsons Brennon, Scott, John, Matthew and Andrew; granddaughters Lia Griffin, Kimberley Rossiter, Kelly DeRosa, Gina Solari and Emily Griffin; and six great-grandchildren,
