Sybil Salisbury

A memorial services for Sybil D. Salisbury, 65, who died Oct. 4 in Las Vegas, will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at the United Methodist Church with the Reverend Lois Hedden presiding.

She was born Nov. 6, 1937, in Glendale, Calif. She was a resident of Pahrump for 15 years coming from Las Vegas.

A Christian, she was a missionary for the Arcade Wesleyan Church of Sacremento, Calif. She was active in after school programs for children at the Church of Tecopa and Amargosa.

Her sister Phyllis Miller of Pahrump; nephews Matthew and Gordon; five great nephews; and one great niece survive her.

Neptune Society of Nye County handled the arrangements. (10/4/03)

Anneliese Dreseler

No services will be held for Anneliese Dreseler, 81, who passed away April 15.

She was born May 27, 1923 in Berlin, Germany. In 1951, she and her husband Ludwig moved from Germany to New York City, where she worked as a teller for the Bank of New York. The couple became U.S. citizens in 1959.

They moved to Pahrump in 1981 after retiring.

Her husband Ludwig preceded her in death in 1983.

She will be sorely missed by her adopted family, Gene and Sheila Abney, Berta Visto, Kelly Abney and all her friends in Pahrump.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Pahrump Human Society.

Eugene Heil

Services are pending for Eugene Heil, 70, who passed away April 18 in Pahrump.

He was born June 3, 1934 in Lewiston, Mont. He moved to Pahrump three years ago, coming from Montana.

He served in the U.S. Army and worked as a manager for a co-op before retiring in 1995.

He was a member of the VFW and was of the Lutheran faith.

His wife Jeanie Beckman-Heil of Pahrump; daughters Dianne (Dick) Brotten, Laurie (Joe) Bauman, Patti Feller, Lisa (Larry) Schmitz, Charlene (Robert) Heil, all of Montana, and Maryann (Cris) Heil of Colorado; sister Ann Carter of Montana; brothers Miro of Montana and George of Idaho; 13 grandchildren and two great grandchildren survive him.

His parents, one sister, and wives Donna and Ruth preceded him in death.

Thomas Willett

Funeral services for Thomas Joseph Willett, 77, who passed away April 15 in Las Vegas, will be held at 11 a.m. Monday in the Neptune Society Chapel. Graveside services will follow in Death Valley Junction, Calif.

He was born Feb. 6, 1938 in Warren County, Miss., and served in the U.S. Army. He moved to Death Valley Junction 23 years ago from Trona, Calif.

While in Death Valley he worked as an actor and comedian at the Amargosa Opera House. He loved trains and his time on and off the stage with his constant companion for the last 22 years, Marta Beckett.

His companion, Marta of Death Valley Junction; daughters Adair M. Most and Gaila J. Hunt of Pahrump; sons Michael T. and Craig J., both of Arizona; grandchildren Becky, Tina, Regina, Christina, Michael, Brandon, Paul and Jaime; and 15 great grandchildren survive him.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Amargosa Opera House.

Robert Woods

A memorial service for Robert Woods, 85, who passed away April 19 in Las Vegas, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Pahrump Valley United Methodist Church, 1300 E. Highway 372.

He was born March 11, 1920 in Pennsylvania, and moved to Pahrump 10 years ago, coming from California.

He served in the U.S. Navy and was self-employed as a contractor until retiring 13 years ago.

He was a member of the VFW and the American Legion and was of the Protestant faith.

His sons John (Jodie) Woods of Michigan, Richard (Susan) Walkup and Ralph (Cindy) Winkler, both of California; daughters Mary Woods and Carol Waller, both of California; sister Kate Patrick of Pahrump; brother Jerry Woods of California; 14 grandchildren; and 11 great grandchildren survive him.

His parents, one brother, one sister, and daughter Barbara preceded him in death.

Marilyn Zook

A celebration of life for Marilyn Jean Zook, 74, who passed away April 8 in Las Vegas, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at her home.

Marilyn and her departed husband, Don E. Zook, moved to Pahrump 14 years ago after living in Las Vegas during their childhood.

She loved to read and was a strong supporter of the Pahrump Community Library. She loved to cook and garden.

Her son Don L. Zook of Las Vegas; daughter Sherry L. Zook of Pahrump; grandson Scott Zook of Las Vegas, niece Nancy Martin-White of Alaska and Curtis Zook of Washington, survive her.

Neptune Society of Nye County handled the arrangements. (4/8/05)

Muriel Bennett-Smith

Services were held April 18 for Muriel E. "Lady Mike" Bennett-Smith, who passed away April 15.

She was born June 8, 1921 in Wheatland, Wyo., to poor homesteaders. By the time she was 6 years old, her parents had both passed away, so she went to live with her aunt in Iowa, where she stayed until graduating from high school.

She spent the next 27 years traveling with her husband Stan Stites and Tom Bennett, arriving in Pahrump in 1967. Expecting to move in a year or so, she lived in Belvins Mobile Home Park. A year later they decided to make Pahrump their permanent home.

She worked as a waitress at the Old Calvada Inn, and then in the 1970s she and her daughters Marri and Cathy purchased the Cotton Pickin' Saloon and opened a restaurant. Lady Mike's specials included homemade soup, hot, fresh loaves of bread and her great Mexican food.

After selling out and retiring to her two acres on Manse Road, she catered private parties for several years.

Her daughters Cathy Duckett and Marri (Bum) Werly of Pahrump; grandchildren Coren (Augustine) Panzino, Michael Augustine, Frank Garren and Shayne Reed; and six great grandchildren survive her. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Nathan Adelson Hospice or the Pahrump Humane Society. Neptune Society of Nye County handled the arrangements. (4/18/05)

Darlene Alves

Funeral services for Darlene Alves, 64, who died Feb. 1 in Pahrump, were held Feb. 3 in the Pahrump Family Mortuary chapel. Burial will be in the Santa Clara, Calif., Mission cemetery.

She was born March 30, 1936, in South Dakota. She came to Pahrump eight years ago from Alabama, and worked as a security guard. She was a Christian.

Children Joseph DeMaria of Pahrump and Anthony DeMaria, Vincent DeMaria and Julianna Lapic, all of Santa Ana, Calif., and siblings Betty Copp of Escondido, Calif., Delaine Watkins of Sacramento, Sharon Martin of Greenville, Tenn., Rose Lunning of Albuquerque and John Grisley of Fontana, Calif., survive her.

Samuel Stokley

No services were held for Samuel Stokley, 77, who died Jan. 4.

He was born Sept. 18, 1923, in Bishop, Calif.

He is survived by children Renee Rubinger and Daniel Longworth, both of Las Vegas, and sister Laura of Bishop.

In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations in his name be made to the American Cancer Society. (1/4/01)

Alfred Smith

Services for Alfred Benjamin Smith, 84, who died Jan. 15 in a Salt Lake City hospital, were held Jan. 20 in the 2nd LDS Ward of Pahrump. Burial in Palm Valley View cemetery, Las Vegas, followed.

He was born Jan. 20, 1916, in Monticello, Utah. He was a retired farmer and carpenter and a 51-year resident of Salt Lake City.

Wife Irene and daughter Janet Henrie, both of Salt Lake City, son Lyle of Pahrump, brothers Jay of Pottstown, Pa., and Walter of Grand Junction, Colo., sister Mabel Jennings of Clifton, Colo., six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren survive him. (1/15/01)

Paul Kephart

A memorial service for Paul Kephart, 79, who died Jan. 20 in Pahrump, will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday in the Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial cemetery, Boulder City.

He was born Dec. 9, 1921, in Pennsylvania. He was in the U.S. Army for eight years with service during World War II, then worked as an insurance salesman. He came to Pahrump two years ago from Las Vegas. He was a Presbyterian.

Wife Lea of Pahrump, son Edmond of Pahrump and one grandchild survive him. (1/20/01)

Joseph Keller

Services for Joseph John Keller, 63, who died Jan. 17 in Pahrump, will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday in the Pahrump Family Mortuary chapel.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today in the chapel.

He was born July 31, 1937, in Milwaukee.

He worked as an automotive machinist and came to Pahrump from Wisconsin three years ago.

He was a member of a senior baseball club, an avid bingo player, and belonged to the Catholic Church.

Wife Georgia of Pahrump, sons Joseph Jr. (Sherry) of Wisconsin and Robert (Linda) of Pahrump, stepsons Steven (Karen) Wall and Randy (Jackie) Wall, both of Wisconsin, sister Josephine Pittman of Texas and 13 grandchildren survive him. (1/17/01)

Julia Jones

Services for Julia May Jones, 76, who died Jan. 17 in Pahrump, will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday in the Wilhelm Funeral Home, Portland, Ore.

She was born Aug. 19, 1924, in Ulysses, Neb. She worked at the Vancouver shipyards during World War II, then was a housewife. She is a two-year resident of Pahrump, coming to Nevada from Gresham, Ore.

Son Douglas of New York City, daughter Nancy Wilson of Pahrump, brother James Block of Kelseyville, Calif., grandsons Christopher Wilson of Forest Grove, Ore., and Michael Wilson of Scholls, Ore. and three great-grandchildren survive her. (1/17/01)

Clayton Garland

Funeral services for Clayton Earl Garland, 66, who died Jan. 17 in Las Vegas, were held Monday in the Pahrump LDS Chapel. Burial followed in the Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial cemetery, Boulder City.

He was born Dec. 29, 1934, in Bethlehem, Pa. He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War, then sold manufactured homes before retiring three years ago. He belonged to the LDS Church and was a member of the Myron Heaton Chorale. He moved from Las Vegas to Pahrump seven years ago.

Wife Debra of Pahrump, sons Russ, Mark and Matthew, all of Las Vegas, daughter Christina Burnham of Las Vegas, stepsons Richard of Las Vegas and Varian and Jarom of Pahrump, stepdaughters Laurissa of Mesa, Ariz., Natira of Denver and Sediena of Pennsylvania, sister Areve Butt of Bethlehem and 14 grandchildren survive him. Ronald Somers

A memorial service for Ronald Eugene Somers, 58, who died Jan. 15 in Pahrump, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in the Pahrump Family Mortuary chapel.

He was born March 9, 1942, in Illinois. He served in the U.S. Army and was a Vietnam veteran, then worked as a self-employed salesman. He came to Pahrump nine years ago from Arizona and was a member of the Moose Lodge.

Survivors include wife Pat of Pahrump, sons Troy (Chris) of Lake Havasu City, Ariz., Brent of Pahrump, Todd of Washington and Wayne (Kelly) of Lake Havasu City, sister Diana Kowalski of Arizona and five grandchildren. (1/15/01)

Patricia Jackson

Private family services will be held for Patricia Lee Jackson, 69, who died Jan. 14 in Pahrump.

She was born March 25, 1931, in St. Louis. She was a Dept. of Defense factory worker, a Catholic, and a resident of Pahrump since 1992, coming here from Anza, Calif.

Survivors include husband Donald of Pahrump, daughter Barbara Smith of Las Vegas, brother Donald Harris, sisters Louise Fowler, Shirley Fowler and Sharon Harris, five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. (1/14/01)

Ray Scholtka

Private family services will be held for Raymond Fredrick "Ray" Scholtka, 64, who died Jan. 14 in Pahrump.

He was born Oct. 10, 1936, in Fullerton, Calif. He served in the U.S. Army, then worked as a processor at a Proctor and Gamble manufacturing plant for 31 years be-fore retiring. He came to Pahrump in 1985, and was a past member of the Garden Grove, Calif., Elks Club.

He loved to cook and gamble, and he was politically active. He will be remembered for having a big heart and always willing to lend a hand to a friend or person in need.

Survivors include son Russell of Pahrump, daughter Terilyn Baker of Germantown, Tenn., brother Jerry of Pahrump, sister Carol Sussman of Westminster, Calif., and seven grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations in his name to the Pahrump office of Nathan Adelson Hospice. (1/14/01)
