Lovena 'Lovey' Schable

Lovena "Lovey" Schable, 83, of Eureka, died at her home there on Sept. 9, 2003. She was born Sept. 7, 1920, in Friend, Ore. She lived in Illinois most of her life, moved to Florida in 1984, and settled in Eureka in 2000.

She was one of the first female secretaries at the Pentagon, but most of her life she worked as a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Harold; and a son, David.

Lovena is survived by sons, Richard Schable of Bellingham, Wash., James Schable of Aregenta, Ill., Ralph Schable of Eureka, Nev.; brothers, Melvin Kannard of Portland, Ore., Wesley Kannard of Pendelton, Ore., Ira Kannard of La Grande, Ore., and four grandchildren.

Memorial services will be held on Saturday, Sept. 20, 2003, at the Eureka Senior Center at 12:30 p.m.

In her memory, donations may be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.

Verna L. Manning Jones

Verna L. Manning Jones, 75, of Owyhee, left this world to be with our Lord and Savior on Saturday, Sept. 20, 2003, in Mountain Home, Idaho.

She was born on Dec. 12, 1928, on the Duck Valley Indian Reservation to Guy and Bessie Manning. She attended grammar school in Owyhee and high school in Los Angeles, Calif., graduating from Los Angeles High School in 1948. She went on to graduate from Bacone College in Muskogee, Okla.

Verna and her husband, Wallace, ranched in Owyhee and established the Owyhee Rec Hall Café. Verna was manager and cook at the cafe, retiring just a few years ago. Local residents, fishermen and travelers enjoyed her daily lunch specials and delicious pies over the years.

Verna was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Newton, Victor, Bert, Edwin and Morty Manning; sisters, Agnes Tybo and Cecelia Thomas; and a granddaughter, Neko Dodson.

She is survived by her husband, Wallace Jones; brothers, Arthur and Wilfred Manning; daughters, Bessie Sanchez, Elissa Jones; son, Guy Dodson Sr., all of Owyhee. Also surviving are seven grandchildren, Derek Teller, Merci Garity, Lenny Dodson, Jessie Jones, Lee Dodson, Guy Dodson Jr. (Guido), and Bobbi Sue Dodson; seven great-grandchildren, Tanisha McKinney, Kyuss McKinney, Dilan Bill, Evan Teller, Katelyn Teller, Lee Dodson Jr., and Taloa Dodson.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 24, 2003, at 1 p.m. at the Human Development Center in Owyhee. Arrangements are being made through Summers Funeral Home in Mountain Home, Idaho, and the Owyhee Presbyterian Church.

James Myrick

James Myrick died in Mountain City, Nev., Sept. 18, 2003. He was born to Samual James and Doris Woodcock Myrick June 4, 1961.

He had worked as a steel worker in high-rise construction. He has lived in Mountain City since 1995 coming from Lucerne Valley, Calif. He had also lived in Hemet, Calif.

He had served in the U.S. Marine Corps and was a member of the Elks Lodge. He had served as a reserve officer with the San Bernardino County Sheriff's office. He had set a Citizens Patrol in San Bernardino, Calif. He was a life member of the National Rifle Association. James was also a collector of World War II history, uniforms, rifles and pistols.

He is survived by three brothers, Christopher (Linda) of Nipoma, Calif., Mathew of Escondido, Calif., Timothy (Susie) of Apple Valley, Calif.

Graveside services will be held at the Elko City Cemetery Friday, Sept. 26, 2003, at 2 p.m.

Burns Funeral Home in Elko, Nev., is in charge of local arrangements.

Frances Eleanor Kearney

Frances Eleanor Kearney was born in Mill City, Ore., Dec. 6, 1914, to Roy and Eleanor Cole. Her family moved to Astoria, Ore., where she grew up with her sister, Florence.

She married James B. Kearney after one year of college, July 3, 1938. They lived in Aberdeen, Wash., until the outbreak of World War II when she moved to Hillsboro, Ore., while James was in the Army in Germany. They began their family in October of 1947 with their son, John, and July 1951, their daughter, Sally, was born.

Frances was a homemaker for many years and then had a career with the Oregon Department of Motor Vehicles, retiring in 1971, prior to the birth of her grandson, Jason.

She and James moved to San Bernardino, Calif., to live with their son, John, in 1993. She lost her husband, James, in July 1995, and has lived with her son ever since. She had resided in Elko, Nev., since 1998 with her son. She passed away Sept. 28, 2003, at her home in Elko after a prolonged disability.

She is survived by her sister, Florence Coleman, of Seaside, Ore.; her son, John Kearney, of Elko, Nev.; her daughter, Sally Kearney, of Portland, Ore.; and two grandchildren, Jason Reed, of Beaverton, Ore., and Chelsea Reed of Hillsboro, Ore.

Services will be at Donelson Sewell & Matthews Funeral Home in Hillsboro, Ore., the evening of Oct. 2, 2003, and St. Matthews Church in Hillsboro, Ore., on Oct. 3, 2003.

Services in Elko will be announced at a later date.

Lavon Hanks

Lavon Hanks, age 75, of Lamoille, passed away Sept. 25, 2003, at St. Mary's Medical Center in Reno. She was born in West Jordan, Utah, on Sept. 21, 1928.

Lavon will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She loved dancing, sewing, crocheting, cooking and she touched the lives of those around her.

She is survived by husband, Carl Hanks, of Lamoille; son, Donald and Rena, of Sparks, Nev.; granddaughters, Darla and Bill Baumann, of Eureka, Nev., and Julie and Jerry Luce of Biggs, Calif.; great-grandchildren, Makenna, Garrett, Nicole and Jake; three brothers; and two sisters.

A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 30, 2003, at 2 p.m. at Burns Funeral Home Chapel, the Rev. Al Fry of the First Presbyterian Church officiating.

The family asks that a donation in lieu of flowers be made to: St. Mary's Hospital Foundation, 520 W. Sixth St., Reno, NV 89503 or the Lamoille Volunteer Fire Department, Lamoille, NV 89828.
