Vern Mark Moore
Died October 17, 2000
Funeral services for Vern Mark Moore, 68, who died Oct. 17 in Las Vegas, will be held at 3 p.m. today in the Oakdale Memorial Park Chapel, Glendora, Calif.
Burial will follow in the Oakdale Memorial Park cemetery.
He was born July 6, 1932, in Hawk Springs, Wyo.
He served in the U.S. Army, then worked as a wall plasterer.
He came to Pahrump six years ago fom Covina, Calif.
He is survived by his wife, Irene of Pahrump; son Mark of Alta Loma, Calif.; daughters Debie Jensen of Covina and Mary Kehoe of San Clemente, Calif.; sister Marietta Thomas of Davis, Calif.; brothers Paul of York, S.C., David of Rachel and Donald of Covina; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Barbaraetta Carolyn Myers
Died October 14, 2000
A memorial service for Barbaraetta Carolyn Myers, 58, who died Oct. 14 in Pahrump, was held Oct. 17 in the Trinity Assembly of God Church with Pastor Larry Krake officiating.
She was born April 25, 1942, in Woodward, Okla.
She worked as a youth director for the community center.
She was artistic and loved to carve, paint, throw pots, sew and crochet.
She also loved horseback riding, but her greatest joy was being a mother and grandmother.
Family members say she loved the Lord and was happy knowing she was going home to him.
Daughters Kathleen Drake of Kent, Wash., and Teresa Burroughs of Pahrump; brother Alonzo Kinney of Maple Valley, Wash., sister Iola Hardy of Leavenworth, Wash., and five grandchildren survive her.
Her brother Joe Kinney died in April. (10/14/00)
Gilbert Roth
Died September 28, 2000
A memorial service for Gilbert O. Roth, 71, who died Sept. 25 in Las Vegas, will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Pahrump VFW Post 10054.
Refreshments will be served after the service.
He was born Sept. 8, 1929, in Cincinnati.
He served in the U.S. Army for 20 years, then worked as an auto-manufacturing supervisor and was an Inyo County, Calif., parks and services ranger.
He was a past quartermaster and commander of Pahrump VFW Post 10054, was past finance officer of Pahrump American Legion Post 22, and belonged to the Cooties at the VFW Post.
Wife Marjorie of Pahrump, son Anthony of Talent, Ore., daugher Jackie Gutierez and family, sister Clara Fox of Port Orange, Fla., granddaughter Angela of Seattle, grandson Jonathan of Santa Barbara, Calif., and several nieces and nephews survive him.
Three sisters and three brothers preceded him in death. (9/25/00)
Martha Blair
Died October 13, 2000
Private services have been held for Martha Rose Blair, 68, who died Oct. 13 in a Las Vegas hospital.
Burial was in the Mountain View cemetery, Beaver, Utah.
She was born Oct. 26, 1931 in Terre Haute, Ind.
She worked as a waitress, then managed two motels in later years.
She was a 20-year resident of Beatty, where she served on the Beatty Town Board, the Beatty Library Board, and was a member of the Beatty Chamber of Commerce and Eastern Star.
She belonged to the LDS Church.
Children Marty Barger, Alan Matheny and Jim Matheny, brother Ronald Irving of Indiana, nine grand-children and eight great-grandchildren survive her.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Beatty Lions Club.
Mary O'Neil
Died: October 28, 2000
Private family services for Mary Delores O'Neil, 68, who died Oct. 28 in Pahrump, will be held at a later date in Oregon.
She was born May 15, 1932, in Mansfield, Mo.
She worked as a certified nursing assistant and came to Pahrump from Oregon in 1993.
She enjoyed gardening, flowers, sewing and going to yard sales.
She is survived by her husband of 17 years, Michael of Pahrump; son Jonathan of Pahrump; three daughters, Peggy Allen of Salem, Ore., Vickie Rogers of Mendota, Calif., and Donna Hampton of Idaville, Okla.; a sister, Ann Mims of Lovelady, Texas; and eight grandchildren. (10/28/00)
Beverly Rominger
Died:October 27, 2000
A memorial service for Beverly Jane Rominger, 67, who died Oct. 27 in Las Vegas, will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in the Pahrump Moose Lodge.
She was born March 23, 1933, in Beloit, Wis.
She was a homemaker, a member of Women of the Moose, the Military Order of the Louse and SKPs co-op, and enjoyed crafts, knitting, ceramics and RV travel in her spare time.
She came to Pahrump from Livermore, Calif., 10 years ago.
She is survived by her husband, Clifford of Pahrump; three sons, Wayne Brewster of Livermore, David Brewster of Solvang, Calif., and Eugene of Alameda, Calif.; brother-in-laws Robert (Doris) of Antioch, Calif., and Edward of Livermore; four grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. (10/27/00)
Daniel Medina
A memorial service for Daniel R. Medina, 52, who died Sept. 10 in Pahrump, was held Thursday in the Pahrump Family Mortuary chapel with Pastor Ron Trummell officiating.
He was born May 1, 1948, in California.
He worked in a storage company warehouse and belonged to the First Southern Baptist Church.
He was a 10-year resident of Pahrump, coming here from California.
Brothers Tommy and David, sisters Irene Bach and Eleanor Kordick and aunt Carmen Taylor, all of California, survive him. (9/10/00)
Maurice Simer
Services for Dr. Maurice Draper "Dr. Moose" Simer Jr., 55, who died Sept. 10, 2000 in Las Vegas, will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday in Pahrump Community Church.
Burial in the Chief Tecopa cemetery will immediately follow the service.
He was born Oct. 13, 1944, in Independence, La.
He was a resident of Pahrump since 1972, and worked as a doctor of chiropractic medicine.
He served as an EMT-I for the Pahrump Ambulance Service for 13 years and taught emergency medicine.
He was a lifetime member of Southern Nye County Search and Rescue, and was past commander of Nevada Search and Rescue.
Dr. Moose will be remembered for his sense of humor and the love many in the community had for him.
His wife of 20 years, Virginia of Pahrump, sons David Turner of Dallas and Michael of Pahrump, daughter Marie of Pahrump, brother Joseph of Nome, Alaska, and seven grandchildren survive him.
In lieu of flowers, the family ask that donations be made to the UMC Transplant Services Patient Fund, Attn. Lynn Scott.
Richard Brandmayr
Pahrump man dies in accident
One Pahrump resident is dead and another remains in the hospital following a string of serious car accidents on local roads over the weekend.
Richard Brandmayr, 54, was killed Saturday afternoon when his vehicle overturned near the corner of Murphy Street and Quail Run Road in northwest Pahrump.
Brandmayr was not wearing a seatbelt and was thrown from the vehicle.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
His passenger, identified as Jerry Dean Bulger, 45, was wearing a seatbelt and stayed in the vehicle when it rolled.
He was transported by Flight for Life to University Medical Center in Las Vegas, where he was treated and released.
"I don't care what anybody says. Seatbelts save lives over and over and over," said Nye County Sheriff Wade Lieseke.
The crash occurred at about 1:50 p.m., less than three hours after another serious accident at David Street and Basin Avenue.
That crash involved two vehicles and sent two people, Ralph and Lucy Hanson, to UMC.
Albert Carpenter
Died October 8, 2000
A memorial service for Albert Raymond Carpenter, 86, who died Oct. 8 in Las Vegas, will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday in the Neptune Society chapel.
He was born Feb. 5, 1914, in Ash Meadows.
He worked as a heavy equipment operator and was a 25-year resident of Pahrump, moving to the valley from Pioche.
He belonged to the Church of Jesus Christ Latter-Day Saints.
He is survived by his wife, Maybelle of Pahrump; stepdaughter Winifred Daughtery of Pahrump; brothers Paul of Pahrump and John of Seattle; sister Amanda Cody of Bishop, Calif.; niece Elaine Ishmal of Pahrump and 16 grandchildren. (10/8/00)
Dr. Alex Tikanen
Private family services have been held for Dr. Alex Clark Tikanen, 44, who died Aug. 26, 2000 in Pahrump.
He was born Nov. 23, 1955 in Hollywood, Calif.
A Pahrump resident since 1998, he had a career as an inorganic research chemist.
He was a Unitarian, earned a Master of Science, and belonged Phi Kappa Phi, the Sierra Club, Phi Kappa Phi honor society, Audubon Society, Green Peace, and was a doctor of philosophy.
Survivors include his mother, Irene of Pahrump; a brother, Eric (Cheryl) of Bakersfield, Calif.; and niece Corinne and nephew Brian, both of Bakersfield.
Allen Hunt
Private services have been held for Allen LaVerne Hunt, 77, who died Sept. 3 in Pahrump.
He was born Sept. 22, 1922 in Killam, Alberta, Canada.
He served in the U.S. Navy and was at Pearl Harbor on the USS California.
He was a life member of the VFW, and received the U.S. Victory Medal, the Asiatic Pacific Medal, American Defense Medal, Philippine Liberation Medal, European/African Campaign Medal and Good Conduct Medal.
He worked in appliance repairs at Burbank, Calif., then operated the first appliance repair service in Pahrump.
He was a 20-year resident of Pahrump.
His wife Doris of Pahrump, children Karen Shapiro of Santa Maria, Calif., Susan Williams of California, Jackie Gorrell of San Antonio, Wayde Baltzer of Chino Hills, Calif., Teri Baltzer of Burbank and Gary Baltzer of Burbank, and 12 grandchildren survive him.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Community Church Youth Fellowship would be appreciated. (9/3/00)
