Paul Kephart

Died: January 20, 2001

A memorial service for Paul Kephart, 79, who died Jan. 20 in Pahrump, will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday in the Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial cemetery, Boulder City.

He was born Dec. 9, 1921, in Pennsylvania. He was in the U.S. Army for eight years with service during World War II, then worked as an insurance salesman. He came to Pahrump two years ago from Las Vegas. He was a Presbyterian.

Wife Lea of Pahrump, son Edmond of Pahrump and one grandchild survive him. (1/20/01)

Alfred Smith

Died: January 15, 2001

Services for Alfred Benjamin Smith, 84, who died Jan. 15 in a Salt Lake City hospital, were held Jan. 20 in the 2nd LDS Ward of Pahrump. Burial in Palm Valley View cemetery, Las Vegas, followed.

He was born Jan. 20, 1916, in Monticello, Utah. He was a retired farmer and carpenter and a 51-year resident of Salt Lake City.

Wife Irene and daughter Janet Henrie, both of Salt Lake City, son Lyle of Pahrump, brothers Jay of Pottstown, Pa., and Walter of Grand Junction, Colo., sister Mabel Jennings of Clifton, Colo., six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren survive him. (1/15/01)

Julia Jones

Died: January 17, 2001

Services for Julia May Jones, 76, who died Jan. 17 in Pahrump, will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday in the Wilhelm Funeral Home, Portland, Ore.

She was born Aug. 19, 1924, in Ulysses, Neb. She worked at the Vancouver shipyards during World War II, then was a housewife. She is a two-year resident of Pahrump, coming to Nevada from Gresham, Ore.

Son Douglas of New York City, daughter Nancy Wilson of Pahrump, brother James Block of Kelseyville, Calif., grandsons Christopher Wilson of Forest Grove, Ore., and Michael Wilson of Scholls, Ore. and three great-grandchildren survive her. (1/17/01)

Clayton Garland

Died: January 17, 2001

Funeral services for Clayton Earl Garland, 66, who died Jan. 17 in Las Vegas, were held Monday in the Pahrump LDS Chapel. Burial followed in the Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial cemetery, Boulder City.

He was born Dec. 29, 1934, in Bethlehem, Pa. He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War, then sold manufactured homes before retiring three years ago. He belonged to the LDS Church and was a member of the Myron Heaton Chorale. He moved from Las Vegas to Pahrump seven years ago.

Wife Debra of Pahrump, sons Russ, Mark and Matthew, all of Las Vegas, daughter Christina Burnham of Las Vegas, stepsons Richard of Las Vegas and Varian and Jarom of Pahrump, stepdaughters Laurissa of Mesa, Ariz., Natira of Denver and Sediena of Pennsylvania, sister Areve Butt of Bethlehem and 14 grandchildren survive him. Verdell Hage

Died Nov. 23, 2001

Verdell E. Hage, 62, died Nov. 23 in his Pahrump home. Services were held Nov. 28 in North Prairie Church, Velda, N.D.

He was born Jan. 23, 1939, in North Dakota. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps, then worked as a heavy equipment operator. He moved to Pahrump in 1993.

Companion Carol Greer, sons John of Carlsbad, Calif., James of Escondido, Calif., and Jeff of North Dakota, sisters Helen (Palmer) Lindlauf and Elizabeth Berg, both of North Dakota, Solveg Bentson of Minnesota and Ardis Lebak of Washington, brothers Phil and David Overvold of North Dakota, and four grandchildren survive him. Other survivors include stepparents Mr. and Mrs. Olav Overvold.

His parents and his brother Jerry preceded him in death.

In lieu of flowers contributions can be sent to Nathan Adelson Hospice. (11/23/01)

Tena McBride

Died Dec. 4, 2001

Services for Tena McBride, 83, who died Dec. 4 in Las Vegas, will be held at 10 a.m. Dec. 14 in the Pahrump Family Mortuary chapel. Burial will follow in Grandview cemetery.

She was born Feb. 22, 1918, in Grass Range, Mont. A homemaker, she lived in Salinas, Calif., for 30 years before coming to Pahrump six years ago. She loved all animals, especially horses.

Sons John of Pahrump and Wayne of California, daughter-in-law Chris McBride of Seaside, Calif., two grandchildren and one great-grandchild survive her.

Leo Finkler

Died Dec. 1, 2001

Services for Leo Richard Finkler, 75, who died Dec. 1 in Pahrump, will be held at 1 p.m. Monday in the Neptune Society of Nye County chapel.

He was born April 9, 1926, in Grand Rapids, Mich. He was a carpenter and came to Pahrump from Las Vegas in 1992. He was a Cub Scouts leader and a member of the DAV and VFW.

Son Richard (Julie) of Pahrump, sisters Shirley Jansma of Belding, Mich., and Virginia Pierson of St. Petersburg, Fla., and two grandchildren survive him.

Neptune Society of Nye County handled the arrangements. (12/1/01)

Martha Goodrich

Died Nov. 25, 2001

Private family services have been held for Martha Margaret Goodrich, 83, who died Nov. 25 in Lincoln, Neb.

She was born Dec. 4, 1917, in Twin Falls, Idaho. She worked as an administrative secretary for a university, belonged to SKP and a national RV association, and came to Pahrump in 1993 after living in California and Washington.

Husband Willard of Lincoln, sons T. Newell Decker of Lincoln and Phillip Decker of Kemah, Texas, eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren survive her.

Neptune Society of Nye County handled the arrangements. (11/25/01)

Sandra Hughes

Died Nov. 23, 2001

A potluck memorial service for Sandra Hughes, who died Nov. 23, will be held at 4:30 p.m. Saturday in the Waterhole Bar.

Helen Graves

Died Nov. 30, 2001

Catholic mass for Helen Madelaine Graves, 73, who died Nov. 30, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church with Fr. Bruno Mauricci officiating.

She was born April 27, 1928, in Pipestone, Minn. She was a homemaker, a member of the Moose, VFW Women's Auxiliary and American Legion Auxiliary, and belonged to the Catholic Church. She came to Pahrump from Paramont, Calif., in 1984.

Husband Thomas of Pahrump, sons John (Diana) and Timothy (Jackie) of Downey, Calif., daughters Julie (Jack) Blalock of Yorba Linda, Calif., and Michelle Cornwell of Cypress, Calif., brothers Rene De Witte of Baltic, S.D., and James De Witte and Rodney De Witte, both of Phoenix, sisters Adeline Tveidt of Sioux Falls, S.D., and Lucille Laipple of Cathedral City, Calif., eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren survive her.

Neptune Society of Nye County handled the arrangements. (11/30/01)

Charles Lynch Jr.

Died Nov. 8, 2001

Services for longtime Pahrump resident Charles William Lynch Jr., who died Nov. 4 in Hanover, N.M., were held Nov. 8 in the Bright Funeral Home with Jim Lynch officiating.

He was born in 1920 in Kansas City, Mo. He lived in Pahrump from 1960 until last year.

His wife, Cynthia, of Pahrump, sons Ben, Greg and Charles III, three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren survive him. (11/4/01)

Tom Roberts

Died March 15, 2001

A memorial service for Thomas M. (Tom) Roberts, 63, a resident of Salmon, Idaho, who died March 15 in Boise, Idaho, after a brief illness, was held March 19 in the Mountain View Chapel, Boise.

He was a Pahrump resident from 1982 until 1998, where he had his own yard care/handyman business and worked at Saddle West. He retired in 1994.

Wife Linda of Salmon, children Virginia Roberts of Riverbank, Calif., Thomas Jr. and Chester, both of Newark, Calif., stepchildren Larry Hildwein and Lynda Short, both of Boise, William Mathews of Mt. Home, Idaho, and Lela Belmont of Bonner's Ferry, Idaho, brother Mike Oliveira of Hayward, Calif., seven grandchildren, one great-grandchild survive him.

Other survivors include mother-in-law Georgia Paquette, sister-in-law Lenora Danielson, niece Dianna Sutton and nephew Chip Danielson, all of Pahrump.

His parents and brother James preceded him in death.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the American Cancer Society.

Fritz Rowland

Died March 25, 2001

Services for Charles Frederic (Fritz) Rowland, 96, who died March 25 in Las Vegas, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in the Beatty Community Church. A private scattering of ashes will follow the service.

He was born Aug. 19, 1904, in Hemingford, Neb. He served in the Canadian Army, was a member of the VFW, and belonged to the Presbyterian Church. He moved to Beatty in the early 1960s, and over the course of his life he worked as a prospector and miner, circus clown, animal trainer, truck rider and restaurant owner.

Son Martin Hillman of Palm Springs, Calif., daughter Kitty Schubert of Las Vegas, brothers Keith and Kenneth, both of Idaho Falls, Idaho, sister Dorothy Warren of Beatty, three grandchildren and six great-grandchildren survive him. (3/25/01)

James Roberts

Died March 25, 2001

Private family services will be held for James Cecil Roberts, 66, who died March 25 in Pahrump.

He was born Nov. 29, 1934, in Pikeville, Ky. He worked as an engineer at the Thunderbird Hotel, belonged to the Baptist Church, and came to Pahrump three years ago from Las Vegas. He was a member of Operating Engineers Local 501.

Wife Christine of Pahrump, daughters Vicki (Sonny) Perry of Crestline, Calif., and Donna (Gary) Campbell of Las Vegas, sister Lorrell Prater of Akron, Ohio, eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren survive him. (3/25/01)

Mary Redman

Died: March 26, 2001

No services are planned for Mary Ellen Redman, 70, who died March 26 in North Las Vegas.

She was born Oct. 13, 1930, in Tulia, Texas. She was a housewife and a 40-year resident of Pahrump.

Son Bruce of Boise, Idaho, mother Virginia Brown of Salmon, Idaho, sisters Fay Schriener of Las Vegas and Nona Johnston of Klamath Falls, Ore., and brothers Gary Johnston of Phoenix and Jack Johnston of Pahrump survive her.

Husband Harold and son Jesse preceded her in death. (3/26/01)
