Bobbie Saunders

Died March 22, 2001

Services for Bobbie Robinson Saunders, 65, who died March 22 in Pahrump, will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday in the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, Homestead and Thousandaire.

She was born April 15, 1935, in Denver. She worked as a school bus driver for the Nye County School District and as a Citizen's Area Transit driver in Las Vegas. She came to Pahrump from Las Vegas 27 years ago, and prior to that lived in Houston. She was a Jehovah's Witness.

Husband James "Jay" of Pahrump, sons Willy Mosley of Oklahoma City, James of Las Vegas, Samuel and Orvis Johnson of Pahrump and Jimmy of Indian Springs, daughters Calandra Thomas of Durango, Colo., Sequita Johnson of Dallas and Seranda Johnson of Oklahoma City, sister Lela Hobbs of Las Vegas, nine grandchildren, and one great-grandchild survive her.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Nathan Adelson Hospice or the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses. (3/22/01)

Robert McCullough

Died March 20, 2001

Robert Irl McCullough, 71, died March 20 in Pahrump.

He was born Sept. 30, 1929, in Newcastle, Wyo. A retired U.S. Navy officer, he taught vocational school diesel engineering for 10 years. He was a member of the Fleet Reserve Assn.

Wife Annette of Pahrump, son Robert of Lubbock, Texas, son Eric of Nellis AFB, two grandchildren, sister JoAnn of Pahrump and mother-in-law Melanie of Pahrump survive him. (3/20/01)

Brenda Merrell

Died March 18, 2001

No services are planned for Brenda Marie Merrell, 57, who died March 18 in Pahrump.

She was born Sept. 13, 1943, in Jasper, Ark. She was an eight-year resident of Tonopah who came to Nevada from Midwest City, Okla.

Son Randall Verchor of Kaplan, La., stepson David of Edmond, Okla., stepdaughters Tamara Goodwin of Little Rock, Ark., and Michelle Merrell Rayburn of Bryan, Texas, sisters Phyllis Irvin of California and Ruby Phillips of Oklahoma, and five grandchildren survive her.

Husband Bill preceded her in death. (3/18/01)

Charlene Waterhouse

Died April 16, 2001

A memorial service for Charlene Waterhouse, 83, who died April 16 in Pahrump, will be held at a later date.

She was born Mary 4, 1917, in Michigan. She was a homemaker, belonged to Jehovah's Witnesses, and came to Pahrump six years ago from Michigan.

Daughters Marla Wythe of Pahrump and Martha Jacobs of Lansing, Mich., seven grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren survive her. (4/16/01)

Robert Rush

Died February 27, 2001

A memorial service for Pastor Robert Rush, 68, who died Feb. 27, will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday in the Pahrump Community Church.

He was born March 1, 1932, in Philadelphia. He was a missionary with Village Missions for 45 years, nine served as pastor of the Pahrump Community Church. During that time he was also chaplain for the Pahrump Valley Volunteer Fire Dept. He and Marjorie, his wife of 48 years, retired to Cave Junction, Ore., in May.

His wife, sons Daniel and David and three grandchildren survive him. (2/27/01)

Geneva Champlin

Died June 27, 2001

Mass of Christian burial for Geneva J. Champlin, 75, who died June 27 in Pahrump, will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday in Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church. Burial will follow in Palm Eastern cemetery.

Visitation is from 5 to 7 p.m. today in the Pahrump Family Mortuary chapel.

She was born Nov. 30, 1925, in Liebenthal, Kan. She worked as a bookkeeper before retiring four years ago and moving to Pahrump from Las Vegas, belonged to the Catholic Church and was a member of Daughters of Mary and TOPS.

Son Wayne (Marilyn) of Pahrump, daughters Rosalind (Ollie) Franks of Biloxi, Miss., and Pauline (Randy) Stout) of Anortas, Wash., sisters Ceclia Sanders of LaCrosse, Wis., Mary Barnes of McCracken, Kan. Stella Miller of Newton, Kan., and Isabelle Schuckman of LaCrosse, 16 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren survive her.

Melvin, her husband of 42 years, preceded her in death. (7/27/01)

Jay Hall

Died June 26, 2001

Jay H. Hall, 75, died June 26 in a Las Vegas hospital.

He was born Feb. 28, 1925, in Oklahoma City. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, then worked as a machinist in the aerospace industry before retiring. He was a 10-year resident of Pahrump.

Wife Jean of Pahrump, stepdaughter Nancy Aust of Vancouver, Wash., stepson Gary Hughes of Riverside, Calif., four grandchildren and five great--grandchildren survive him. (6/26/01)

Luella Babbitt

Died June 26, 2001

Graveside services for Luella Evalyn Babbitt, 91, who died June 26 in Amargosa Valley, will be held at 11 a.m. Monday in the Amargosa Desert cemetery.

She was born May 1, 1910, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. She earned a master's degree in education, specializing in sounds and phonics, and taught math, science, reading and music for 56 years. She lived in Tecopa, Calif., since 1975, and moved to Amargosa Valley in 1988. She was a Christian and belonged to the VFW Ladies Auxiliary. She served on the board of directors for the senior center.

Sons Lyle of Vine Grove, Ky., and Arthur of Amargosa, 15 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and one great great grandchild survive her.

Sons James and Laurence preceded her in death. (6/26/01)

David St. John

Died July 10, 2001

A memorial service for David Raymond St. John, 80, who died July 10 in Pahrump, will be held at 6 p.m. Monday in the Neptune Society Chapel, 720 Buol Lane.

He was born Feb. 14, 1921, in Tulsa. He worked as an electrician at the Nevada Test Site and belonged to the electrician's union. He moved to Nevada in 1958, and had been a resident of Crystal since 1972.

Son David of Tulsa, brother Frederick of Dawsonville, Ga., and sister Beverly Jones of Crystal survive him.

Neptune Society of Nye County handled the arrangements. (7/10/01)

Michel Miller

Died Nov. 21, 2001

Services for Michel Miller, 53, who died Nov. 21 in Las Vegas, will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday in the Pahrump Family Mortuary chapel, 5441 S. Vicki Ann Rd., with burial to follow in Grandview cemetery. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

He was born Dec. 1, 1947, in Nevada. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War, then worked as a truck driver for a cement company. He was a 14-year resident of Pahrump.

Wife Ginger of Henderson, daughters Genny Peck, Natalie, Charity and Sarah, all of Las Vegas, sons Max, and Wesley and Shane, both of Las Vegas, his mother Lilly, sister Pattrreica Fetch of Ft. Wayne, Ind., and six grandchildren survive him. (11/21/01)

Frank George

Died Nov. 20, 2001

A memorial service for Frank E. George, 67, who died Nov. 20 in Las Vegas, was held Nov. 23 at Mountain View Casino and Bowl.

He was born June 8, 1934, in McAlester, Okla. He served in the Navy during the Korean War, then worked as a journeyman ironworker before retiring. He was past president of the Dust Devil Chapter of Good Sams and a 16-year resident, coming to Pahrump from Las Vegas.

Wife Cora Jean of Pahrump, sons Dean of Las Vegas and Larry and Terry of Houston, brother J.H. of McAlester, sister Mildred Walker of Mojave Valley, Ariz., seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren survive him.

James Gamble

Died Oct. 24, 2001

Services for James Edward Gamble, 26, who died Oct. 24 in Yuma, Ariz., were held Oct. 29 at Sunset Vista cemetery, Yuma. Gamble, an employee of Far West Water and Sewer, died with another man when they were overcome by toxic fumes while trying to repair a septic tank.

He was born April 23, 1975, in Ohio, and lived in Beatty from age 5 until he was 22.

He was a member of a Yuma baseball team, and loved the sport as well as fishing. He will be remembered by his family as a loving son and brother.

His father James, mother Carol Ann Thrasher, stepfather Edward Thrasher, sister Amanda Christmann and grandparents Gordon and Kay Pickett of Beatty survive him. (10/24/01)

James Sexton

Died Nov. 22, 2001

Funeral services for James Sexton, 52, who died Nov. 22 in Pahrump, will be held at 11 a.m. today in the Pahrump Family Mortuary chapel, 5441 S. Vicki Ann Rd. Burial will follow at Palm Eastern, Las Vegas. Visitation will be from noon to 8 p.m. today in the chapel.

He was born in California and raised as a Seventh Day Adventist. He belonged to Operating Engineers Local 12 before retiring four months ago, and belonged to the Tribal Motorcycle Club. He came to Pahrump 11 years ago from Las Vegas.

Daughters Jamie of Pahrump and Bonnie Slater of Oregon, his mother Gloria of Pahrump, sister Joann (Ralph) Pillman of Pahrump, one grandchild, one great-grandchild, nieces, nephews and grandnieces and nephews survive him. (11/22/01)

Kathleen Szedny

Died Oct. 24, 2001

Visitation and services for Kathleen M. Szedney, 69, who died Oct. 24 in Pahrump, were held Oct. 27 at Palm Mortuary-Downtown.

She was born Dec. 3, 1931, in Waltham, Mass and was a 26-year resident of the area. She worked as a secretary in county government before retiring after 14 years.

Husband Orland of Pahrump, daughters Patricia Davie of Orlando, Fla., and Kathleen Popp of Las Vegas, sons Robert Davie of Overton, Jack Davie of Manteca, Calif., and Paul Davie of Pahrump, sister Marsha Dearborn of Massachusetts, brothers Matthew Connolly of Massachusetts and Donald Connolly of New Brunswick, Conn., and six grandchildren survive her. Edward Sheldon

Died Oct. 28, 2001

Services for Edward Roy Sheldon, 77, who died Oct. 28 in Pahrump, will be held at 11 a.m. today in the Pahrump Family Mortuary chapel, 5441 S. Vicki Ann. Burial will follow in the Chief Tecopa cemetery.

He was born Oct. 2, 1924, in Detroit. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, then worked as a policeman before he retired. He came to Pahrump 10 years ago from Las Vegas, was a member of Masons and the VFW, and was a Protestant.

Best friend Dottie Jepson of Pahrump, sons Robert (Marilyn) of Michigan, Kenneth of Las Vegas and Thomas (Karen) of Michigan, sisters Mary (Jerry) Dunn and Alice Ponski, both of Michigan, nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren survive him. (10/28/01)
