Ronald Somers
Died: January 15, 2001
A memorial service for Ronald Eugene Somers, 58, who died Jan. 15 in Pahrump, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in the Pahrump Family Mortuary chapel.
He was born March 9, 1942, in Illinois. He served in the U.S. Army and was a Vietnam veteran, then worked as a self-employed salesman. He came to Pahrump nine years ago from Arizona and was a member of the Moose Lodge.
Survivors include wife Pat of Pahrump, sons Troy (Chris) of Lake Havasu City, Ariz., Brent of Pahrump, Todd of Washington and Wayne (Kelly) of Lake Havasu City, sister Diana Kowalski of Arizona and five grandchildren. (1/15/01)
Ray Scholtka
Died: January 14, 2001
Private family services will be held for Raymond Fredrick "Ray" Scholtka, 64, who died Jan. 14 in Pahrump.
He was born Oct. 10, 1936, in Fullerton, Calif. He served in the U.S. Army, then worked as a processor at a Proctor and Gamble manufacturing plant for 31 years be-fore retiring. He came to Pahrump in 1985, and was a past member of the Garden Grove, Calif., Elks Club.
He loved to cook and gamble, and he was politically active. He will be remembered for having a big heart and always willing to lend a hand to a friend or person in need.
Survivors include son Russell of Pahrump, daughter Terilyn Baker of Germantown, Tenn., brother Jerry of Pahrump, sister Carol Sussman of Westminster, Calif., and seven grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations in his name to the Pahrump office of Nathan Adelson Hospice. (1/14/01)
Patricia Jackson
Died: January 14, 2001
Private family services will be held for Patricia Lee Jackson, 69, who died Jan. 14 in Pahrump.
She was born March 25, 1931, in St. Louis. She was a Dept. of Defense factory worker, a Catholic, and a resident of Pahrump since 1992, coming here from Anza, Calif.
Survivors include husband Donald of Pahrump, daughter Barbara Smith of Las Vegas, brother Donald Harris, sisters Louise Fowler, Shirley Fowler and Sharon Harris, five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. (1/14/01)
Francis Cypert
Died Nov. 27, 2001
Services for Francis Bonita Cypert, 71, who died Nov. 27 in a Las Vegas hospital, will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday in the First Congregation Church, 1200 N. Eastern, Las Vegas. Burial will follow in Woodlawn cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today.
She was born Feb. 19, 1930, in Esteleen, Texas. She lived in Las Vegas and Amargosa since 1964, belonged to the Church of Amargosa, and was a longtime member of the Amargosa Valley Improvement Assn.
Husband Kenneth C., children Kenneth D., Kathy, Darrell, Tina and Tessa (Tim) Jacobs, five grandchildren and one great-grandson survive her.
Donations in her name can be made to the Church of Amargosa Youth Outreach.
William Hetfield
Died Nov. 26, 2001
Private family services have been held for William Miller Hetfield, 86, who died Nov. 26 in Pahrump.
He was born Jan. 14, 1915, in Chicago. He served in the U.S. Army, then owned a printing business. He came to Pahrump from Sterling, Ill., last year, belonged to the Catholic Church, and was a lifetime member of the VFW.
Daughter Marcella Shank of Pahrump survives him.
Neptune Society of Nye County handled the arrangements. (11/26/01)
Alfred Burton
Died Nov. 19, 2001
Private services will be held for Alfred Thomas Burton, 88, who died Nov. 19 in Pahrump.
He was born Jan. 21, 1913, in London, Ontario. He served in the Merchant Marine and U.S. Navy. He was a marine engineer and worked for Matson Navigation for 35 years. He lived in Las Vegas from 1979 to 1991 when he moved to Pahrump.
Son Alfred of Antioch, Calif., stepson Joseph Reis of Fremont, Calif., brothers Douglas of Texas and Leonard of Missouri, sisters Aileen Pitcher of New York and Shirley Helle of Michigan, three grandchildren and one great-grandchild survive him.
Memorial donations to the Alzheimer's Assn. are requested. (11/19/01)
Elvin Propps
Died Nov. 26, 2001
A memorial service for Elvin Propps, 68, who died Nov. 26 in Las Vegas, will be held at 11 a.m. today in the Pahrump Family Mortuary chapel, 5441 S. Vicki Ann.
He was born Aug. 7, 1933, in Oregon. He served in the U.S. Air Force 21 years, then retired 28 years ago. He was a lifetime member of the VFW and an avid pool player. He came to Pahrump 13 years ago from Las Vegas.
Wife Frances of Pahrump, children Cheryl and Johnny of California and Brenda and Diana Oliveaux of Washington, brother John of Las Vegas, eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren survive him. (11/26/01)

Clayton Garland
Died: January 17, 2001
Funeral services for Clayton Earl Garland, 66, who died Jan. 17 in Las Vegas, were held Monday in the Pahrump LDS Chapel. Burial followed in the Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial cemetery, Boulder City.
He was born Dec. 29, 1934, in Bethlehem, Pa. He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War, then sold manufactured homes before retiring three years ago. He belonged to the LDS Church and was a member of the Myron Heaton Chorale. He moved from Las Vegas to Pahrump seven years ago.
Wife Debra of Pahrump, sons Russ, Mark and Matthew, all of Las Vegas, daughter Christina Burnham of Las Vegas, stepsons Richard of Las Vegas and Varian and Jarom of Pahrump, stepdaughters Laurissa of Mesa, Ariz., Natira of Denver and Sediena of Pennsylvania, sister Areve Butt of Bethlehem and 14 grandchildren survive him. Julia Jones

Services for Julia May Jones, 76, who died Jan. 17 in Pahrump, will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday in the Wilhelm Funeral Home, Portland, Ore.
She was born Aug. 19, 1924, in Ulysses, Neb. She worked at the Vancouver shipyards during World War II, then was a housewife. She is a two-year resident of Pahrump, coming to Nevada from Gresham, Ore.
Son Douglas of New York City, daughter Nancy Wilson of Pahrump, brother James Block of Kelseyville, Calif., grandsons Christopher Wilson of Forest Grove, Ore., and Michael Wilson of Scholls, Ore. and three great-grandchildren survive her. (1/17/01)
Joseph Keller
Died: January 17, 2001
Services for Joseph John Keller, 63, who died Jan. 17 in Pahrump, will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday in the Pahrump Family Mortuary chapel. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today in the chapel.
He was born July 31, 1937, in Milwaukee. He worked as an automotive machinist and came to Pahrump from Wisconsin three years ago. He was a member of a senior baseball club, an avid bingo player, and belonged to the Catholic Church.
Wife Georgia of Pahrump, sons Joseph Jr. (Sherry) of Wisconsin and Robert (Linda) of Pahrump, stepsons Steven (Karen) Wall and Randy (Jackie) Wall, both of Wisconsin, sister Josephine Pittman of Texas and 13 grandchildren survive him. (1/17/01)

Died: January 20, 2001
A memorial service for Paul Kephart, 79, who died Jan. 20 in Pahrump, will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday in the Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial cemetery, Boulder City.
He was born Dec. 9, 1921, in Pennsylvania. He was in the U.S. Army for eight years with service during World War II, then worked as an insurance salesman. He came to Pahrump two years ago from Las Vegas. He was a Presbyterian.
Wife Lea of Pahrump, son Edmond of Pahrump and one grandchild survive him. (1/20/01)
