Alfred Smith

Died: January 15, 2001

Services for Alfred Benjamin Smith, 84, who died Jan. 15 in a Salt Lake City hospital, were held Jan. 20 in the 2nd LDS Ward of Pahrump. Burial in Palm Valley View cemetery, Las Vegas, followed.

He was born Jan. 20, 1916, in Monticello, Utah. He was a retired farmer and carpenter and a 51-year resident of Salt Lake City.

Wife Irene and daughter Janet Henrie, both of Salt Lake City, son Lyle of Pahrump, brothers Jay of Pottstown, Pa., and Walter of Grand Junction, Colo., sister Mabel Jennings of Clifton, Colo., six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren survive him. (1/15/01)

Juliet Stepp

Died April 2, 2002

Juliet Louise "JC" Stepp, 50, died April 2 in Pahrump. Burial was April 9 in St. Joseph, Mo.

She was born June 7, 1951, in St. Joseph. She worked in food service at the Excalibur, was a Protestant, and came to Pahrump in 1995 from Las Vegas. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, gardening, painting and building things.

Husband Ralph "Rusty" of Pahrump, parents William and Martha Clary of St. Joseph, daughters Jeanette Gray of Pahrump and Toni Hanson of Las Vegas, son Raymond Ingle of Seattle, stepdaughter Sandra Taylor of Las Vegas, stepsons Ronald and Jimmy, both of California, brother William Clary Jr. of St. Joseph, sister Margaret of St. Joseph and 16 grandchildren survive her.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the American Heart Assn.

Allie Keller

Died June 12, 2002

Services for Allie Ethel Keller, 76, who died June 12 in Henderson, were held June 17 in the First Baptist Church, Artesia, Calif., with burial following in Forest Lawn cemetery, Cypress, Calif.

She was born May 10, 1926, in Clovis, N.M. She worked in aircraft assembly for Douglas Aircraft before retiring, belonged to the United Auto Workers, and was a resident of Kingman, Ariz., since 1982. She belonged to the College Park Baptist Church of Kingman, enjoyed being a Sunday school teacher, and also enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, flowers and collecting Shirley Temple memorabilia.

Daughters Billie (Bob) Shakespeare of Pahrump, Barbara Kenyon of Norwalk, Calif., Bonita (David) Ziemer of Randolph, N.J., Belinda Keller of San Marcos, Calif., and Brenda (Pat) Sanders of Norwalk, son Robert (Jerie) of Cypress, 16 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren survive her.

Barbara Savoy

Died July 29, 2002

A memorial service for Barbara Eileen Savoy, 88, who died July 29, will be held at 10 a.m. Friday in the Neptune Society of Nye County chapel with Fr. Bruno officiating.

She was born June 19, 1914, in Seattle. She worked as a medical assistant in a doctor's office and came to Pahrump from Reno 30 years ago. She belonged to the Catholic Church.

Son Fred (Janet) Hodder of Turlock, Calif., daughters Joan (William) Dockendorf of Orangeville, Calif., Maryellen (Haydon) Ware of Diamond Springs, Calif., and Marjorie (John) Taylor of Hornbrook, Calif., brother William Moffitt Jr. of Washington, Kan., sisters Mary Davis of Sacramento and Martha Whitsel of Concord, Calif., 17 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, and four great great-grandchildren survive her.

Neptune Society of Nye County handled the arrangements. (7/29/02)

William Salo

A memorial service for William Joseph Salo, 42, who passed away March 4 in Springfield, N.H., will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Evangelical Free Church in Embarrass, Minn.

He was a registered nurse who devoted his life to emergency care. He received many credentials including, Certified Flight Registered Nurse, Critical Care Registered Nurse, Certified Emergency Nurse, Trauma Nursing Care Curriculum, Pre-Hospital Trauma Life Support, Advanced Burn Life Support, Advanced Life Support in Obstetrics and Neonatal Resuscitation Provider.

Bill was a member of several professional associations including Air and Surface Transport Nurses Association, Emergency Nurses Association and the American Association of Critical Care Nurses. He was in demand nationally as an instructor for courses including Flight Nurse Advanced Trauma Course, Advanced Cardiac Life Support and Pediatric Life Support.

At the peak of his career, Bill was Chief Flight Nurse and Program Director of Valley Hospital Medical Center Flight for Life in Las Vegas. He was named Southern Nevada's Emergency Nurse of the Year in 1999.

Bill was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing, and was an expert rock climber.

His wife Lynn and son Michael of Springfield, N.H.; mother Diane, father Willie, and brothers Mark of Virginia, Minn., and Dean, his wife Kristie and daughter Megan of Grundy Center, Iowa; and many extended family members survive him.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the National Wildlife Federation, 11100 Wildlife Center Drive, Reston, VA 20190-5362.

Josephine Miller

Services have been held for Josephine E. Miller, 84, who passed away Feb. 28 in Pahrump. Interment is at Chief Tecopa cemetery.

She was born March 18, 1920 in Port Huron, Mich., and graduated from Armada High School in Armada, Mich. She moved to Pahrump seven years ago, coming from Las Vegas.

A housewife and mother, she was a member of Our Lady of the Valley Roman Catholic Church.

Her husband Harold N. Miller of Pahrump; daughter Sheila A. Kelly of Corona, Calif.; sons Harold Miller Jr. of Algonac, Mich., and Brian J. Miller of Marysville, Mich.; six grandchildren; and six great grandchildren survive her.

Her parents, four sisters and one brother preceded her in death.

Robert Wagner

Private family services will be held for Robert Wagner, 49, who passed away March 8 in Pahrump.

He was born June 5, 1955 in Pennsylvania, and moved to Pahrump four months ago, coming from Las Vegas.

He worked as a mechanic and was of Christian faith.

His son Robert Ray Wagner of Las Vegas; mother Dorothy Wagner of Pahrump; sisters Debbie (Jeff) Nelson of Las Vegas and Pamela Moor of Pahrump survive him.

His father and sister preceded him in death.

George Brotherton

Interment for George C. Brotherton Jr., 92, who passed away March 2 in Pahrump, will be in Pennsylvania.

He was born May 18, 1912 in Pennsylvania. He was a 10-year resident of Pahrump and a 44-year resident of Southern Nevada.

An electrician, he was a member of IBEW for 64 years before retiring. He was also a member of the Masons and the Shriners.

His wife Joanne of Pahrump; sons Wayne of Amargosa and Pete of New Jersey; and six grandchildren survive him.

Mary McDonnell

Services were held in Manchester, N.J. for Mary Vanderham McDonnell, 68, who passed away March 4 in the Whiting section of Manchester, N.J.

Born in Newark, N.J., she lived in Kearny, N.J., Wisconsin and Pahrump before moving to Whiting in May 2004.

She was employed as a registered nurse for 45 years before retiring in 1994 from the Dorchester Nursing Home in Sturgeon Bay, Wis. She was a communicant of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Roman Catholic Church in Whiting. She was an avid bingo player.

Her sons John of Philadelphia and Dennis of Simsbury, Conn.; brothers Harry Vanderham of Kearny, Louis Vanderham of Bradley Beach, N.J., and Andrew Vanderham of Manchester; and granddaughter Maren McDonnell survive her.

Her husband Eugene McDonnell preceded her in death in 2002.

Claire Hennigh

A celebration of life for Claire Hennigh, who passed away Jan. 10, will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Pahrump Community Church, 1061 E. Wilson Road.

Marvin Schultz

Died September 25, 2002

Private services have been held for Marvin "Lane" Schultz, 75, who died Sept. 25 in a Las Vegas hospice.

He was born Nov. 22, 1926, in Long Beach, Calif. He was a merchant seaman during World War II, and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He operated Schultz Trailer Rentals in Beatty, where he lived for 25 years.

Wife Ruth of Beatty, children J.R. of Beatty, James of Long Beach and Marialane of Alexandria, Va., his mother Anna Marie Lane, brother James of Redondo Beach, Calif., and one grandchild survive him. (9/25/02)

Michael McLaughlin

Died September 20, 2002

A memorial service for Michael John McLaughlin, 33, who died Sept. 20 in Pahrump, was held Tuesday in the Pahrump Community Church with Pastor Dick Bauer officiating.

He was born Nov. 10, 1968, in Plainfield, N.J. He moved to Pahrump with his family in 1980 and worked as a truck driver. He enjoyed electronics, CB radios, traveling, racing and being a music DJ.

Wife Oralee of Pahrump, daughter Samantha of Pahrump, sons Timothy and Zachery, both of Pahrump, parent Doug (Sande) of Sparks, grandmother Hazel of Pahrump, brother Steven of Sparks and a number of relatives in Pahrump survive him.

His mother Nancy preceded him in death.
