Carolynn Whiting

Services have been held for Carolynn C. Whiting, 41, who died May 18 in Las Vegas.

She was born Aug. 1, 1961, in Canoga Park, Calif. She was a 35-year resident of Las Vegas, where she worked as a bartender.

Her son Paul C. Whiting of Las Vegas; mother Carolynn Ley of Pahrump; father Gunther Theilkuhl of Pahrump; stepfather Ray Ley of Pahrump; and companion Duane Huggins of Las Vegas survive her.

Patrick O'Malley

Patrick O'Malley, 56, died June 2 in Pahrump.

He was born March 24, 1947 in Monterey, Calif., and was a resident of Pahrump for one year, coming from Las Vegas.

He worked as a painter for McDonald Painting in Pahrump.

His daughter Ilene O'Malley of Las Vegas survives him.

Atha Young

Visitation for Atha M. Owens-Connely-Young, 63, who died June 2, will be at 10 a.m. today at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Pahrump. Services will be at 11 a.m., with burial to follow at Chief Tecopa cemetery.

She was a lifetime resident of Nevada, and a 42-year resident of Pahrump.

She was an equestrian and animal enthusiast, whose wish for her family and friends was a healthy, happy life.

Her daughter Kaye Connely-Slack of Pahrump; father Robert (Bob) Owens of Ferron, Utah; brothers James and David Owens, both of Ferron; and cousin Billy Owens of Las Vegas survive her.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations may be made in her name to charity.

William Weaver

Private family services will be held for William Weaver, 58, who died May 31 in Henderson.

He was born May 31, 1945 in Wyoming, and was an eight year resident of Pahrump.

He worked as a building fabricator in the machine industry.

His wife Cleo Schultz of Pahrump; daughter Ginger Billeb of Virginia; brother Marion Weaver of Missouri; sisters Georgia Highley, Delories Thompson, both of Missouri, Pauline Phillips, Bonnie Kemfer, both of Oregon, and Dorothy O'Brien of Texas survive him.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Arthritis Foundation, 2450 Chandler Avenue, Las Vegas 89120.

Garden Memorial Funeral Home handled the arrangements. (5/31/03)

Ronald Burnright

Ronald Burnright, 74, died June 3 in a Las Vegas hospital.

He was born March 24, 1929 in Chico, Calif., where he was raised.

He served in the U.S. Army and then returned to Chico to attend Chico State College. He graduated in 1955 with a teaching credential and taught high school in the Sacramento area for most of his career.

He retired at the age of 55 and moved to Pahrump a few years later.

He was a member of the Cactus and Succulent Society of Las Vegas and the Friends of the Library in Pahrump.

His sisters, Diane (Jack) of Burney, Calif., and Debbie (Dave) Abbott of Chico; and several nieces and nephews; and many friends in the Sacramento and Pahrump areas survive him.

Neptune Society of Las Vegas handled the arrangements. (6/3/03)

Elizabeth Powers

Visitation for Elizabeth R. "Betty" Powers, 70, who died June 16 in Sacramento, Calif., will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at East Lawn Mortuary, 5757 Greenback Lane in Sacramento. Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, also at East Lawn, with burial to follow.

She was a native of Weston, Mo., and lived in Leavenworth, Kan., and most recently resided in Pahrump.

She worked as a nurse for 15 years at American River Hospital in Carmichael, Calif., before retiring. She was a loving mother and devoted grandmother.

Her husband of 50 years, Eugene; children Linda (Bill) Combs of Sacramento, Steven (Lorrie) Powers of Vacaville, Calif., and Sharon Blatnick of Juneau, Alaska; and six grandchildren survive her.

East Lawn Mortuary handled the arrangements. (6/16/03)

Dorothe Warren

Private family services will be held for Dorothe Roland Warren, 94, who died June 15 in Pahrump.

She was born Dec. 14, 1908 in Hemmingford, Neb. She was a resident of Beatty since 1981, coming from Hemet, Calif.

She was a restaurant owner, a tour director for Death Valley, an artist and an author.

Her daughter Kolene Montgomery of Beatty; brothers Keith Roland and Kenneth Roland, both of Idaho Falls; three grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; and seven great-great grandchildren survive her.

Bill Terry

Services for Bill J. Terry Sr., 76, who died June 2 in Las Vegas, will be held at 2 p.m. July 19 in the Beatty Senior Center.

He was born Dec. 1, 1926 in Marlow, Okla., and was a 32-year resident of Beatty, coming from Alamosa, Colo.

He served in the U.S. Army and the U.S. Navy and was a World War II veteran.

He worked as an electronic technician for the federal government and after retiring was self employed for Terry Electric in Beatty.

He was a past commander of Veterans of Foreign Wars #6826 in Beatty, past master of the Montezuma Masonic Lodge in Goldfield, and past president of the Beatty Lions Club.

His wife of 56 years, Helen of Beatty; father Merle Lebbs of Oklahoma; sons Bill Terry Jr. of Broken Bow, Okla., and Richard Hunt of Las Vegas; brothers Kenneth Terry of New Mexico, Roger Tripp of Phoenix, and Tom Terravino of Texas; sister Shaney of California; three grandchildren; and two great grandchildren survive him.

His son, Michael Terry, preceded him in death.

Joseph Merritt

Services have been held for Joseph Nelson Merritt, 16, who died June 29 in Pahrump.

He was born July 24, 1986 in Las Vegas, and was a 13-year resident of Pahrump.

His parents Joseph and Cindy Merritt of Pahrump; sisters Mariann Merritt and Kacee Nordby, both of Pahrump, Karree Merritt and Bree Price, both of Texas; grandmothers Bill Hurley of Pahrump and Mary Merritt of Texas survive him.

Eleanor Drake

Services are pending for Eleanor E. Drake, 80, who died July 2 in Las Vegas.

She was born Sept. 7, 1923 in Lewis, Iowa, and was a 24-year resident of Pahrump.

She worked as a Deputy County Assessor in Cass County, Iowa, before retiring.

He sons Dennis (Nonie) Drake of Monroe, Mich., and Steven (Eileen) Drake of Omaha, Neb.; daughters Linda (Kirk) Richardson of Omaha, and Diane (Richard) Lange of Lancaster, Calif., sisters Marian Kaiser of Arkansas, Margorie Armen Trout of Oregon, and Corrine Lees of Iowa; five grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; and two great grandchildren survive her.

Her husband, Winsel S. Drake, preceded her in death.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Pahrump Valley United Methodist Church memorial fund, 1300 E. Highway 372. (7/2/03)

Harry Kallaus

Private family services have been held for Harry Albert Kallaus, 82, who died June 7 in California.

He was born in Iowa, and recently moved to southern California. He was an independent business owner for over 50 years.

His wife Eva of California; daughter Mona; son Carl; brothers Gary of Palmdale and Bob of San Diego; and grandchild Channa of Las Vegas survive him. (6/7/03)

Lester Cannon

Services for Lester Eugene Cannon, 73, who died peacefully with his wife Marie and daughter Cindy at his side April 28 at his home in Hurricane, Utah, will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Hurricane Stake Center. A visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. Friday and one hour prior to Saturday's service at the Hurricane Valley Mortuary, and interment will be in the Hurricane City cemetery.

He was born in St. George, Utah, on March 10, 1930, to Claude and Partha Ann Hunt Cannon. He was married in 1947 to Margaret Jean Baldwin and had four children, Russell, Cynthia, Pauline and Steven.

His got his start in the business world as a salesman and later became a successful plumbing contractor and real estate developer in Nevada and Southern Utah. In 1982 he and his second wife, Donna Joy Wright Cannon, returned to Hurricane, bought a farm and developed it into Idletime Acres. Later he developed the Shadow Canyon Sub-division near the Hurricane Airport.

He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. In 1993, he was ordained as a high priest and sealed to Donna in the St. George Temple. He was also a member of the Masons for many years.

He is survived by his wife, Marie, two children, 14 step-children, 77 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren, and one great-great grandson.

He was preceded in death by his wife Donna in 1999, daughter Pauline and son Steven. He was the last of his nine siblings to pass on.
