Raymond DePalma

An open house will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at 6121 Markleham Ave. in Las Vegas to remember Raymond Mathew DePalma Jr., 56, who died Aug. 25 after a long bout with cancer.

He was born July 17, 1947, in Detroit. He was a lifelong educator who spent the early part of his career as a teacher and a coach in Michigan. He later worked as a school administrator in Nye County, including stints as an assistant principal in Tonopah, a principal of Gabbs School, and eventually as a principal of Pahrump Valley High School. He finished his career in Nye County as principal at Tonopah High School, before he left to become principal of Virgin Valley High School in Mesquite and a principal of the K-12 school in Indian Springs.

He was working as assistant principal for athletics - sports was one of his passions - at the new Shadow Ridge High School in Las Vegas at the time of his death.

His wife Pamela of Las Vegas; father Raymond Sr.; son Dennis of Los Angeles; daughters Lacey Evans and McCall Strehlow, both of Las Vegas; sister Linda Wilson of Roswell, N.M.; and two grandsons survive him. (8/25/03)

James Kell

A Remembrance of Life for James Bruce Kell, 85, who died Aug. 26 in Pahrump, will be held at 2 p.m. Sept. 6 at the home of his daughter Linda Reed.

He was born July 3, 1918, in Centralia, Ill., and lived in Pahrump for two years coming from South Lake Tahoe.

He worked as a lead man for Zero Manufacturing before retiring in 1978.

He belonged to the Elks and was of the Baptist faith.

His wife Geraldine of Pahrump; daughters Patricia Redell of Idaho, Linda Reed of Pahrump, and Betty Loechel of California; grandsons Robert Shields of Idaho, Wayne Barnes of Colorado, and Scott Loechel of California; granddaughter Stacy Loechel of California; and two great grandchildren survive him.

James McGranor

Private family services have been held for James McGranor, 72, who died Aug. 23 in Las Vegas.

He was born March 23, 1931 in Pennsylvania, and was a 14-year resident of Pahrump coming from California.

He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War earning a Purple Heart. He worked as a bus driver for the Regional Transportation Department until his retirement 14 years ago.

His wife Helen of Pahrump, and son Robert Rowe of Pahrump survive him.

Duane Barris

Services for Duane H. Barris, 41, who died June 23 in Las Vegas, will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday in the Pahrump Family Mortuary chapel. Burial will follow in Grandview cemetery.

He was born Feb. 26, 1962 in Albuquerque, N.M. He was a 15-year resident of Las Vegas, coming from Pahrump, where he lived for 12 years.

His wife, Rosie, of Las Vegas; son Duane Tristan Barris of Las Vegas; daughter Melissa Lee Barris of Las Vegas; parents Herbert and Bonnie Barris of Pahrump; sisters Diana Haulman and Anna Fanning, both of Pahrump; and several nieces, nephews and great nephews survive him.

Arlene Loose

Arlene Loose, 89, died May 2003 in Monte Vista, Colo.

She was born Feb. 26, 1914, in Lebanon, Mo., to Robert and Lulu (Hillhouse) McShane.

She was a member of the VFW, American Legion Auxiliary and the Business and Professional Women's Club. She loved to paly bridge and was a member of the Mesquite Club in Las Vegas. She and her husband, David, had lived in Pahrump for over 12 years.

Her son Don (Rosemary) Lounsbury of Monte Vista; and grandchildren Mark Lounsbury of Monte Vista and Leanne Lounsbury of Santa Fe, N.M., survive her.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Lulu, her husband, David, and one sister.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Tri-County Senior Citizens in care of Stroymayer's Funeral Home, 205 Broadway, Monte Vista, CO 81144.

Betty Baumgarten

Services for Betty J. Baumgarten, 71, who died May 15 in Pahrump, will be held in Clarendon Hills, Ill., at a later date.

She was born Dec. 21, 1931 in Illinois, and was a resident of Pahrump for eight years.

A Presbyterian, she worked in retail for a department store before her retirement 30 years ago.

Her husband Walter of Pahrump; sons Christian (Jeanne) Baumgarten and Brandon Baumgarten, both of Colorado; and two grandchildren survive her.

John Chewning

John Oliver Chewning, 55, died May 14 in Las Vegas.

He was born July 4, 1947, in Williamsburg, S.C., and was a resident of Pahrump since 1995, coming from Las Vegas.

He worked as a truck driver, was a member of AMVETS and loved playing slot machines.

His wife Jimmie of Pahrump; mother Mary Jackson of Orangeburg, S.C.; sons John Chewning of Manning, S.C., and Ernest Chewning of Findley, Ohio; daughters Teresa Richburg, of Manning, Tammy Hubbard of Eustace, Texas, Oanjel Hanser of Dallas, Amber Lammons of North Carolina, and Katie Chewning of Pahrump; brothers Mark Chewning of Dallas, and Eugene Chewning of St. Thomas, Virgin Islands; sister Penny Graviett of Orangeburg; seven grandchildren; and 1 one great grandchild survive him.

Neptune Society of Nye County handled the arrangements. (5/14/03)

Harold Tennant

Harold "Pat" Tennant, 85, died May 14 in Las Vegas.

He was born April 3, 1918 in Grand Rapids, Mich., and had been a resident of Pahrump for over a year.

He was a retired custodian for the school district and was a member of Pahrump Moose Lodge #808.

His daughters Sandra (Everett) Shugren of Pahrump, and Jacklyn (Frank) Benninger of Tempe, Ariz.; son Thomas Tennant of Apache Junction, Ariz.; sister Esther Williamson of Muskegon, Mich.; five grandchildren; and 11 great grandchildren survive him.

Vincenzo Bulone

Services for Vincenzo Bulone, 72, who died Aug. 1 in Pahrump, will be held at 1 p.m. today at Palm Mortuary - Eastern, 7600 S. Eastern Ave., Las Vegas.

He was born Oct. 9, 1930 in Licata, Italy and was a one-year resident of Pahrump.

He worked as a commercial fisherman before retiring.

His wife Anna; daughter Laura Bulone Kautzman; and son Domenico Bulone survive him.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Nathan Adelson Hospice.

Billy Strickland

Services have been held for Billy J. Strickland, 71, who died Aug. 2 in Reno.

He was born Feb. 14, 1932 in Atoka, Okla., and was a 43-year resident of Amargosa Valley.

He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War, and worked at the Nevada Test Site until his retirement in 1993.

His wife Wanda of Amargosa Valley; daughters Karon J. Mueck of Woodland, Calif., and Valarie K. Pfister of Reno; sister Jerry Vogt of Checotah, Okla.; eight grandchildren and four great grandchildren survive him.

Burke Reynolds

An Irish wake will be held at 8 p.m. July 26 at Sullivan's Pub for Burke Rey Reynolds, 61, who died July 13 in Pahrump.

He was born April 12, 1942 in Las Vegas, New Mexico. He was a resident of Pahrump since 1991, coming from Las Vegas.

He was a captain in the U.S. Army with the 101st Airborne Division during the Vietnam War.

He was an actor, singer and songwriter who performed at various venues all over Nye County, including Stateline Bar, Our Bar, Town Hall Bar, Stagestop, Bummers, Valley Bar, Who's Dunes, Cotton Pickin' and Longstreet Inn and Casino.

His sons Jonathan Erickson, Richard Oliverius Reynolds and Paul Oliverius Reynolds, both of Pahrump; daughter Amy Murphy of Las Vegas; father Cecil Reynolds of Pahrump; and grandsons Sebastian, Tyler, Dylen and Brendon survive him.

James Pietrzyk

A memorial service for James C. Pietrzyk, 46, who died July 10 in Pahrump, will be held at 1 p.m. July 26 in the Pahrump Family Mortuary chapel.

He was born Oct. 28, 1956 in Chicago, Ill. He lived in Pahrump for 15 months, coming from Las Vegas.

He worked in construction, and was of the Catholic faith.

His wife Robin of Pahrump; daughters Sabrena and Crystal of Illinois; brothers John and Joe Pietrzyk of Illinois; sisters Mary Ann and Deane of Illinois; and three grandchildren survive him.
