Earl Curtis

No services will be held for Earl Curtis, 81, who died July 17 in Beatty.

He was born Sept. 3, 1921, in Chicopee, Kan., and was a resident of Beatty. He worked as a heavy equipment operator in the lumber industry before retiring.

His wife Rose of Beatty survives him.

William Mathewson

Services have been held for William Riden Mathewson, 81, who died July 13 in Las Vegas. Burial will be held at a later date at Chief Tecopa cemetery.

He was born May 9, 1922 in Fallon and was a resident of Pahrump since 1984, coming from Sacramento, Calif.

After serving in the U.S. Air Force, he worked most of his life as a mechanic for the city of Sacramento.

He was a member of the Moose and loved bowling, building things and gardening.

His wife Norma of Pahrump; son Dean Elder of London, England; daughters Beverly Fernandez of Spanoway, Wash., and Suzane Myers of Grants Pass, Ore.; and four grandchildren survive him.

Neptune Society of Nye County handled the arrangements. (7/13/03)

Daniel Nowland

A memorial service for Daniel Moose Nowland, who died July 7 in Kingman, Ariz., will be held at the Town Hall, 2450 W. Mesquite, at 3 p.m. Saturday.

He was born June 3, 1971 in Wild Rose, Wis. He was a six-year resident of Pahrump and worked as a mechanic.

His sons Scott and Brennan of Wisconsin; mother Mary of Kingman; brothers Larry and Billy of Pahrump; sister Tina (Randy) Stuffy of Oshkosh, Wis.; five nieces; six nephews; several aunts and uncles; and lots of friends survive him.

He was preceded in death by his father Lawrence and his girlfriend Melissa Payton. (7/7/03)

Phillip Schaub

Services for Phillip Schaub, 44, who died June 17 in Pahrump, will be held in Montana at a later date.

He was born Aug. 31, 1958 in Wyoming, and was a two-year resident of Pahrump coming from Montana.

He worked as a welder in the construction industry and belonged to Local 459.

He was Catholic.

His wife, Linda Kerr-Schaub, of Pahrump; daughter Shawna Honea of Reno; parents Don and Rose Schaub of Montana; sisters Deana Schaub of Reno, Sheila Schaub, Nancy Sandovil and Lynn Ogle, all of Montana; and brother Glenn Schaub of Montana survive him.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the family.

LaVerne Corsaut

Services for LaVerne Corsaut, 67, who died June 21 in Las Vegas, will be held at 10:30 a.m. today at Southern Nevada Veterans cemetery, with full military honors.

He was born Sept. 7, 1935 in Carroll, Iowa, and was a Pahrump resident for nine years, coming from Saudi Arabia.

He served in the U.S. Air force for 21 years, retiring in June 1975. He then worked as an avionics instructor for McDonnell-Douglas until his retirement in 1994. He was Methodist.

His wife, Wanda, of Pahrump; sons Steven Corsaut of Pahrump, Tony (Lori) Corsaut of Burkburnett, Texas, and Dane Corsaut of Palm Desert, Calif.; two sisters; four brothers; and 14 grandchildren survive him.

His sister Dorothy preceded him in death.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Nathan Adelson Hospice, 751-6700.

Karen Richardson

No services will be held for Karen Richardson, 59, who died June 23 in Pahrump.

She was born Jan. 30, 1944 in Kansas City, Mo. She was a resident of Las Vegas since 1979, coming from New Jersey.

She worked as a caregiver for Home Health until retiring in 1986. She was Catholic, and enjoyed arts and crafts.

Her husband, Mark, of Las Vegas, daughter Michelle Richardson of Pahrump; sisters Jackie Frankenfield and Eva (Dennis) Lyons, both of New Jersey; cousin Debra Sullivan of Texas; and close friends Stan and Araann Sussman of Pahrump survive her.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Nathan Adelson Hospice.

Morris Kavanaugh

Services for Morris Pat Kavanaugh, 79, who died June 20 in Las Vegas, will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church.

He was born June 25, 1923, in Portland, Ore., and was a 10-year resident of Pahrump.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, graduated from the University of Portland with a Bachelor's degree, and then worked in meat sales until his retirement in 1981.

He belonged to Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church and was a member of Elks Gateway and the Moose Lodge in Pahrump.

His wife, Patricia, of Pahrump; children Deborah (Scott) Walstra of Washington, Kathleen (Steven) Wood, Michael Kavanaugh, and William Kavanaugh, all of Oregon; and seven grandchildren survive him.

Duane Barris

Services for Duane H. Barris, 41, who died June 23 in Las Vegas, will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday in the Pahrump Family Mortuary chapel.

He was born Feb. 26, 1962 in Albuquerque, N.M. He was a 15-year resident of Las Vegas, coming from Pahrump, where he lived for 12 years.

His wife, Rosie, of Las Vegas; son Duane Tristan Barris of Las Vegas; daughter Melissa Lee Barris of Las Vegas; parents Herbert and Bonnie Barris of Pahrump; sisters Diana Haulman of Pahrump and Anna Fanning of Pahrump; and several nieces, nephews and great nephews survive him.

Margaret Garrett

Private services will be held for Margaret W. Garrett, 97, who died Sept. 2 at a Pahrump nursing home. Internment will be at Vineland cemetery in Clarkston, Wash.

She was born Feb. 14, 1906, in Milwaukee to Frank A. and Mary LaBelle Wolf. She worked as a payroll clerk and lived in Pahrump for 15 years.

Daughters Rose McDonald of Anchorage, Alaska, and Grace Willis of Pahrump; nine grandchilddren; 25 great-grandchildren; and 25 great-great-grandchildren survive her.

In lieu of flowers, donations should be made to a hospice program. (9/2/03)

Robert Dermody

A service for Robert William Dermody, 46, who died Sept. 1 in Nye County, will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Pahrump Family Mortuary.

He was born May 11, 1957, in West Palm Beach, Fla. A resident of Charleston View, Calif., he served four years in U.S. Marine Corps and worked for labor unions. He was a member of the Outlaws organization and the Professional Rodeo Cowboy Association. He was a Protestant.

His wife Nancy of Charleston View; mother Patricia of Las Vegas; sons William (Dele) of Eagle, Colo., and Benjamin of Penrose, Colo.; brothers John (Sandy) of Atlanta and Donald of Niceville, Fla.; and grandchildren Mariah, 6, and Mackinzee, 9 months, of Eagle survive him.

He was preceded in death by his father James and brother Steve.

In lieu of flowers donations should be made to the Veterans Memorial cemetery in Boulder City.

Raymond Steiber

A memorial service for Raymond C. Steiber, 64, who died Sept. 6 at a Las Vegas hospital, will be held at 6 p.m. Friday at Palm Mortuary on Eastern in Las Vegas.

He was born Feb. 3, 1939, in Brooklyn, N.Y. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps and worked as foreman in the commercial construction industry. He was a 29-year resident of Pahrump.

Son Ray of Henderson; daughter Debbie Steiber-Clawson of Las Vegas; mother Catherine of Queens, N.Y.; brother Ricky of Long Island, N.Y.; and six grandchildren survive him.

Palm Mortuary-Eastern handled the arrangements. (9/6/03)
