Anna M. Waxham

ROANOKE, VIRGINIA: Anna M. Waxham, age 67, of Desi Road North West, Roanoke, Virginia formerly of Sheridan died at ( 7:03 P.M.) Saturday, January 18, 2003 in the Lewis Gale Hospital, Salem, Virginia, following a short illness.
Mrs. Waxham was born August 2, 1935 in Buffalo, New York.
Mrs. Waxham was a member of Our Lady of Nazareth RC Church, and the Brambleton Senior Center both of Roanoke, Virginia. She was a former girl scout leader for 11 years in Fredonia, New York.
Survivors include her husband Russell E. Waxham of Roanoke, Virginia whom she married on May 4, 1957 in St. Martin's RC Church, Langford, NY, 2 daughters Mrs. Rosanna Miller of Roanoke, Virginia, Mrs. Laird (Linda) Williams of Raleigh, North Carolina, 1 son Paul Waxham of Ithaca, NY. Also surviving are 4 foster sisters Mrs. Bernard (Betty) Purdy of Savannah, Georgia, Angeline Adams of Buffalo, Mrs. Carl (Jean) Clark of West Seneca and Mrs. Melvin (Marlene) Rogers of Hamburg, 7 grandchildren and several nieces & nephews. Predeceased by her foster mother Rosa Bantle, by 1 son Mark Golabek who died June 19, 1999, and by 2 foster sisters Elizabeth Golabek Kotz and Mary Gaffney Dale.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday morning at 10:00 o’clock from St. Anthony’s RC Church, Fredonia with the Rev. C.J. Westfield, pastor officiating. (Please meet at church) Burial will follow in the Sheridan Center Cemetery, Town of Sheridan. Friends may call at Riles & Woolley Funeral Home, 39 Main Street Forestville on Thursday from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. The family suggests memorials in her memory be made either to the American Heart Association, the American Cancer Society or the National Parkinson’s Association.

Alice M. Hanks

GETZVILLE: Alice M. Hanks, age 85, of Weinberg Campus, Getzville, formerly of Sheridan, died Thursday, October 30th, 2008 at her residence. Alice was born in Buffalo on March 15, 1923, the daughter of the late Kenneth and Adeline (Tauffener) McVaugh. She attended both Buffalo & Tonawanda Schools and was a 45 year member of Sheridan United Methodist Church, where she served on the Board of Trustees, taught Sunday School, was a choir member, served as assistant organist and was a member of the United Methodist Women. Mrs. Hanks was also active in her community as an election inspector, a member of the Sheridan Garden Club, A Gathering of Friends, Sheridan Happy Seniors, The Sheridan Study Club, T.O.P.S. Organization, Home Bureau and the Eastern Star. Mrs. Hanks was an avid reader and seamstress, and enjoyed making crafts, baking, playing cards and board games, traveling to Florida each winter and was well-known for her delicious pies. She was affectionately known as "Bunny" to her family and friends, which she enjoyed most by spending time with them. Mrs. Hanks will always be remembered as a loving person, who looked for the good in everyone, and brought out the good in all the people she encountered. Survivors include her husband Neal M. Hanks of Getzville, whom she married on May 30, 1941 at the Evangelical United Brethren Church, Pendelton, NY, two daughters, Mrs. Robert (Karen) Phillips of Niagara Falls, NY, Mrs. Charles (Maureen) Coon of Pittsburgh, PA a son, Merritt (Frances) Hanks of Buffalo, a sister, Mrs. Douglas (Nancy) Nottis, four brothers, Calvin (Judy) McVaugh, Francis (Gerri) McVaugh, Terry McVaugh and Jay McVaugh. She is also survived by grandchildren Christopher Coon, Michael (Laura) Coon, Mark Phillips, Amy (David) Cornfield, Mrs. Michael (Kristy) Schultz, Laura Phillips McGarvey, Todd (Irene) Hanks, Stacy Hanks and 12 great grandchildren. Besides her parents she was predeceased by 4 sisters, Dianne McVaugh, Laurie Ground, Marjorie Kuhn and Mary St. James. Friends are welcome to call at the Riles & Woolley Funeral Home, 39 Main Street, Forestville on Sunday from 2-4 & 7-9 pm. Funeral services will be held Monday morning at 11 o'clock from the Sheridan United Methodist Church, Main Road, Sheridan, with Pastor Molly Golando officiating. Private Interment will be at the convenience of the family in Sheridan Center Cemetery. The family suggests memorials may be made either to the Sheridan Fire Dept., PO Box 122, Sheridan, NY 14135 or to the Sheridan United Methodist Church, Main Road, Sheridan, NY 14135.

David E. Homan

FREDONIA: David E. Homan, age 62, of Green Acres, Wisteria Drive, Fredonia, formerly of Forestville died peacefully in his sleep at (11:27 A.M.) Saturday, January 31, 2004 in Buffalo General Hospital, following a lengthy illness.
Mr. Homan was born May 12, 1941 in Silver Creek, the son of the late Erwin Homan and Mildred (Higgs) Homan  Johnson of Forestville.
Mr. Homan was a US Navy Veteran and was a former antique dealer and auctioneer. He loved fishing and was a devout Christian.
Surviving besides his mother is 1 brother Richard Homan and 1 sister Shirley Hafner both of Forestville. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews. Besides his father he was predeceased by his step-father Keith Johnson.
Funeral services will be held Monday afternoon at 1 o’clock from the Riles & Woolley Funeral Home, 39 Main Street, Forestville, with the Rev. Donald L. Carlson officiating. Burial will be at the convenience of the family in Evergreen Lawn Cemetery, Town of Hanover. Friends may call at the funeral home one hour prior to the service. The family suggests memorials in his memory be made to the Forestville Fire Dept. Emergency & Rescue Squad.

Donald J. Butcher

HANFORD BAY, SILVER CREEK: Donald J. Butcher, age 87, of Moran Lane, Hanford Bay, Silver Creek died unexpectedly at (11:30 p.m.) Wednesday, April 21, 2004 in Mercy Hospital, Buffalo,
Mr. Butcher was born February 28, 1917 in the Town of Villenova, the son of the late Edwin and Lucy (Dailey) Butcher.
Mr. Butcher was educated in local schools and graduated from Forestville High School in 1934. He then attended the former Fredonia Normal School for two years before transferring to the former Dunkirk Business Institute where he graduated from in 1938. Mr. Butcher served with the US Army from 1943 to 1946 serving with the 76 Infantry Division and later with the 9th Service Command Unit 1913 where he served as a Prisoner of War Personnel Sergeant Major at a large prison camp in Rupert, Idaho with the rank of Master Sergeant. As a member of the Army Reserve Corps. he was recalled to active duty in September 1950 during the Korean conflict and was on active duty until October 1951 with the 101st Airbourne Division. He was a life member of the J. Carter Knapp American Legion Post #953, Forestville where he served as post commander in 1963. As an athlete in high school and college he became interested in sports officiating and was a member of various basketball, baseball and softball officials associations in the Jamestown and Buffalo areas for a period of 44 years and was a scout for the St. Louis Cardinals. He was an active member of the United Methodist Church in Perrysburg, Hamburg and Forestville where he served in many capacities including Lay Leader at both Perrysburg and Forestville. In 1941 he became employed by the former Russell-Miller Milling Co., then by the former Con Agra Milling Co. in Buffalo and retired in 1976 as office manager. He then became Executive Director of the Eastern Federation of Feed Merchants and upon his retirement in1981 he became the first honorary life member.
Survivors include his wife Florence (Bridenbaker) Butcher of Hanford Bay, Silver Creek whom he married June 2,1939 in Forestville, 2 daughters Mrs. Mark (Marcia) Hubert of Olean, NY and Dr. Gary (Marlene) Whitaker of Columbus, North Carolina. Also surviving are 2 brothers Walter Butcher of Baldwinsville, NY and Wayne  Jones of Forestville, 4 grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents he was predeceased by 4 brothers Norris E. Butcher, Wayne E. Butcher, Laurance D. Butcher and Robert J. Butcher.
Funeral Services will be held Sunday afternoon at 1 o’clock, from the Riles & Woolley Funeral Home 39 Main Street, Forestville with Pastor Rebecca Ward of the Forestville United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will follow in the Evergreen Lawn Cemetery, Town of Hanover where graveside military services will be conducted by members of the J. Carter Knapp American Legion Post #953, Forestville. Friends may call at the funeral home on Saturday from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. The family suggests memorials in his memory be made either to the Forestville United Methodist Church or to the J. Carter Knapp American Legion Post #953, Forestville.

Marian H. Pilawski

FREWSBURG: Marian H. Pilawski, age 72, of Bone Run Road, Frewsburg, formerly of South Buffalo died at ( 5:50 A.M.) Friday, January 31, 2003 at her residence following a lengthy illness.
Mrs. Pilawski was born January 9, 1931 in Buffalo the daughter of the late Cale and Edna (Bishop) Hart.
Mrs. Pilawski enjoyed going to flea markets and reading.
Survivors include her husband Joseph Pilawski, Sr. of Frewsburg whom she married on August 1, 1950 in Holy Family RC Church, South Buffalo, 2 daughters Mrs. Jeffrey (Karen) Waterhouse and Mrs. Milan (Cindy) Tamer both of Forestville, 2 sons Joseph (Jane) Pilawski, Jr. of Frewsburg and Steve J. (Lynn) Pilawski of Orchard Park. Also surviving are 8 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren and several cousins. Besides her parents she was predeceased by 1 brother Harry A. Hart.
Funeral services will be held Monday morning at 11:00 o’clock from the Riles & Woolley Funeral Home, 39 Main Street, Forestville with the Rev. Daniel Rutenber pastor of the Gage Chapel Community Church, Smith Mills officiating. Burial will follow in the Smith Mills Cemetery, Town of Hanover. Friends may call at the funeral home today from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m.

Mary Jane Waligora

FT. LAUDERDALE, FL: Mary Jane Waligora, age 82, of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida formerly of Buffalo and Forestville died at (1:30 P.M..) Wednesday, March 12, 2003 in Hollywood Medical Center, Hollywood, Florida following a lengthy illness.
Mrs. Waligora was born January 7, 1921 in Waynesville, North Carolina the daughter of the late Joseph and Francis (Jenkins) Evans.
Mrs. Waligora was the co-owner of Sparks Electric, Buffalo with her late husband Bronislaus Waligora whom she married August 13, 1943 in St. Rose of Lima RC Church, Forestville and who died October 1, 1972. She was a member of the Salvation Army Women's Home League, Ft. Lauderdale, Florida and had attended the Sheridan Hills Baptist Church, Hollywood, Florida. Mrs. Waligora was a graduate of Hazelwood High School, Waynesville, North Carolina.
Survivors include 4 sons, Gerald Waligora of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, Timothy (Anne) Waligora of Buffalo, Jeffrey (Pok Sun) Waligora of Milwaukee, Oregon and Rodney (Michele) Waligora of Hollywood, Florida. Also surviving is 1 sister Louise McCuen of Gray, Kentucky, 8 grandchildren, 1 great grandchild and several nieces & nephews. Besides her parents & husband, she was predeceased by a son Leonard Waligora who died January 4, 1989.
A Celebration of Life ceremony will be held Saturday, July 12, 2003 in Forestville, New York. The family suggests memorials in her memory may be made either to Southeast Focal Point, Attn: Bessie, 3081 Taft Street, Hollywood, Florida 33021 or to the American Cancer Society. Arrangements are by Riles & Woolley Funeral Home, Forestville, NY. Burial was in the Forestville Cemetery.

Florence L. Ruszaj

FORESTVILLE: Florence L. Ruszaj age 86, of Bradigan Road, Forestville died at (11:36 A.M.) Friday, July 4, 2003 in the TLC/Health Network-Lake Shore Hospital, Irving, following a short illness.
Mrs. Ruszaj was born July 19, 1916 in Buffalo the daughter of the late Joseph and Helen (Gizowski) Daminski.
Mrs. Ruszaj was a retired Steel Sharpener having worked for Bailey Manufacturing Co. of Forestville for 43 years. She was a member of St. Rose of Lima RC Church, Forestville and a past president of the former St. Rose of Lima Altar and Rosary Society. She was a member of the Kosciuszko Club, Dunkirk and was an avid polka dancer.
Survivors include her loving companion Walter Waligora of Forestville, 1 daughter Mrs. Robert (Rita) Boyland of Forestville, 1 son John J. (Janet) Ruszaj, Sr. of Hamburg. Also surviving are 1 brother Joseph (Clara) Daminski of Cheektowaga, 1 sister Mrs. John (Dorothy) Moskaluk of West Seneca, 7 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, 2 step-grandchildren, 3 step-great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents she was predeceased by her husband Alexander Ruszaj who died August 19, 1967, by a daughter Constance T. Laurie who died September 4, 1985, by a brother John Daminski and by a sister Helen Popielarz.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday morning at 10:00 o’clock from St. Rose Lima RC Church, Forestville (PLEASE MEET AT CHURCH) with the Rev. Gerald P. Sheehan pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in the Forestville Cemetery. Friends are welcome to call at the Riles & Woolley Funeral Home, 39 Main Street, Forestville on Monday from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. A Christian Wake Service will be held Monday afternoon at 2:00 o’clock in the funeral home. The family suggests memorials in her memory be made either to St. Rose of Lima RC Church, Forestville or the Forestville Fire Dept. Emergency & Rescue Squad.

Elton W. Hall

FREDONIA: Elton W. Hall, age 90, of Howard Street, Fredonia, formerly of Forestville, Dunkirk, & Dunedin, FL died at (6:30 A.M.) Sunday, May 2, 2004 in Brooks Memorial Hospital, Dunkirk, following a short illness.
Mr. Hall was born December 23, 1913 in West Perrysburg, New York the son of the late John and Blanche (Ranney) Hall.
Mr. Hall owned and operated the former Red &  White Store in Forestville for 31 years. He retired as a teller from the former Fleet Bank, Fredonia in 1976 after 9 years of service. Mr. Hall was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Fredonia for nearly 40 years, was an exempt member of the Forestville Fire Dept., a charter member of the former Silver-Forest Lions Club, a life member of the Dunkirk-Fredonia Lions Club and a past member of the former Forestville IOOF Lodge #99. He was active in scouting for 35 years in the area, was a 1931 graduate of Forestville Central School and a graduate of the former Dunkirk Business Institute.
Survivors include his wife Lois Mae (Watrous) Hall of Fredonia, whom he married on August 27, 1937 in Silver Creek, 1 son Robert E. (Marilyn) Hall of Dunkirk and 1 daughter Mrs. Robert (Cynthia S.) Saar of Farnham. Also surviving are 5 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren and 1 niece and 1 nephew. Besides his parents he was predeceased by infant twins, a boy and girl in 1940 and by a brother Foster Hall.
Funeral Services will be held Wednesday morning, at 10 o’clock from the Riles & Woolley Funeral Home, 39 Main Street, Forestville, with the Rev. Jerry Ward pastor of the First United Methodist Church, Fredonia, officiating. Burial will follow in Glenwood Cemetery, Silver Creek. Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. The family suggests memorials in his memory be made either to the First United Methodist Church, 25 Church Street, Fredonia NY 14063, or to the Charity of one's choice.

Claudia G. Kelley

FORESTVILLE: Claudia G. Kelley, age 59, of Fluker Hill Road, Forestville died at (5:35 A.M.) Friday, February 7, 2003 in Buffalo General Hospital following a lengthy illness
Mrs. Kelley was born January 6, 1944 in Buffalo the daughter of the late Earl and Esther (Mallaber) Austin.
Mrs. Kelley was a retired assembler/packer having worked for Cherry Creek Woodcraft, South Dayton, retiring after 11 years of service. She had formerly worked as a security guard for the Pinkerton Co. and at Bush Industries in Cattaraugus. She enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, many crafts, collecting pewter statues of Wizards, gardening, dancing reading, music and her family. At one time she hiked 95 miles of the Appalachian Trail.
Survivors include her husband Frank E. Kelly, Sr. of South Dayton, whom she married on February 14, 1970 in South Dayton, 3 daughters Mrs. Gene (Rachel) Nickerson of Cassadaga, Mrs. Michael (Heather) Kuzdzal of Cincinnati, Ohio, and Mrs. John (Heidi) Butcher of Forestville, 3 sons Richard (Lourdes) Ardillo of Forestville, John (Katie) Ardillo of Daytona Beach, Florida, Jason Ardillo of Fredericksburg,Virginia, 1 step-son Frank E. Kelly, Jr. of West Palm Beach, Florida and a step-daughter Wendy Abbey of Silver Creek. Also surviving are 4 sisters Mrs. Lynn (Phyllis) Butcher of South Dayton, Mrs. David (Alice) Sanders of Fredonia, Mrs. Robert (Sandra) Morlock of Mayville, Mrs. Robert (Patricia) Yager of South Dayton, 2 brothers Eugene (Joyce) Austin of Brocton and Raymond (Lana) Austin of South Dayton, 12 grandchildren, 1 great grandchild and several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents she was predeceased by 3 brothers Richard N. Austin, Thomas Austin and Dennis Austin.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday morning at 11:00 o’clock from the Riles & Woolley Funeral Home, 39 Main Street, Forestville with the Rev. Daniel J. Bradley pastor of the South Dayton United Methodist Church, officiating. Friends may call at funeral home on Monday from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. The family suggests memorials in her memory be made to the South Dayton Fire Dept. Emergency & Rescue Squad.

Laura A. Fiebelkorn

FORESTVILLE: Laura A. Fiebelkorn, age 95, of Fluker Hill Road, Forestville, died at (12:10 P.M.) Sunday, May 2, 2004 at TLC/HN Lake Shore Hospital, Irving, following a lengthy illness.
Mrs. Fiebelkorn was born March 29, 1909 in Langford, New York the daughter of the late George and Rose Cook.
Mrs. Fiebelkorn was a member of the American Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, was an avid birdwatcher, gardener, & a great seamstress.
Survivors include a son Carl G. Fiebelkorn of Forestville and a daughter Arlene R. Fiebelkorn of East Leon. Also surviving are 2 granddaughters, Debbie Fiebelkorn of Amherst & Donna Albert of Lexington, KY, 2 great grandchildren, Thomas & Ashley Albert both of Lexington, KY, 1 niece & 3 nephews. Besides her parents she was predeceased by her husband of 58 years, Ira P. Fiebelkorn, who died in April of 1986, by 2 brothers Edwin & George Cook.
There will be no visitation observed. Private funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in Villenova Cemetery, South Dayton. The family suggests memorials in her memory be made to the South Dayton Fire Dept. Emergency & Rescue Squad. Arrangements are by the Riles & Woolley Funeral Home, Forestville.
