Amelia Mary Carmella Vallecorsa
LITTLE FALLS- Amelia Mary Carmella "Mame" (D'Arcangelis) Vallecorsa, 81, a longtime Little Falls resident, passed away on Friday evening, May 18, 2007 in Folts Homes, Herkimer, comforted by knowing her loving family was by her side. She was born on July 22, 1925 in Fort Plain, daughter of the late Ore and Caterina (Lupo) D'Arcangelis and was educated in Fort Plain schools. She graduated from Fort Plain High School, Class of 1943 as salutatorian and attended MVCC as an English Literature Major. On May 4, 1947, Amelia exchanged wedding vows with Gene Vallecorsa at St. James Church in Fort Plain. The couple enjoyed a devoted union of 51 years until the passing of Mr. Vallecorsa on November 20, 1998. Amelia and Gene were steadfast, loyal and devoted to one another. They were both deeply committed to their children and the joys and responsibilities of family life. Amelia enjoyed the ballet and opera in her spare time, as well as had a love of the movies and reading. Her loved ones affectionately remember her as the family "advisor". She was the matriarch of the Vallecorsa family and the keeper of endless memories. Amelia based her life on the solid and inspirational foundation of her family and friends. She was imbued with a strong sense of honor, unshakable integrity and selfless commitment to those around her. She especially enjoyed golfing, bowling, gardening and skiing. She enjoyed the arts and attending classes to improve on her talents. Amelia will be remembered by all who knew her as one who was dignified in both appearance and character. Survivors include her beloved family with whom she held close to her heart; her children: Marcia Coffin and husband Roy of Herkimer, Dr. David Vallecorsa and wife Nancy of Latham, and Janice Sallitt and husband Mark of Ellicott City, MD; her grandchildren: Vicki Judd and husband James, Gregory Vallecorsa, Jillian Vallecorsa, Erica Vallecorsa, Jonathan Vallecorsa, Daniel Sallitt, Alison Amelia Sallitt and Jason Gino Sallitt; two great grandchildren: Ava Amelia Judd and Deacon Judd; three brothers: Arthur D'Arcangelis and wife Millie of Fort Plain, Richard "Deco" D'Arcangelis and wife Betty of Bridgeton, MO, and Thomas "Bino" D'Arcangelis of Manahawken, NJ; a sister: Angelina "Angie" Morra and husband Dr. Anthony Morra of Latham; in-laws: Tony Vallecorsa of Las Vegas, NV; Caroline, Olga and Rita D'Arcangelis, and former sister-in-law: Stella Vallecorsa; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Amelia was predeceased by her son: Lawrence Gene Vallecorsa; by her grandson: Roy "Skippy" Coffin Jr.; by five brothers: Chauncy "Chance", Lugino "Lodge", Carlo, Sam and Pat D'Arcangelis; and she was also predeceased by her sister: Dora D'Arcangelis. The family will be present in the Enea Family Funeral Home, 24 W. Monroe St ., Little Falls, to receive relatives and friends on Tuesday, May 21, 2007 from 5-8 p.m. Mrs. Vallecorsa's funeral will commence at 10:15 am on Wednesday, May 22, from the chapel of the funeral home where prayer will be offered and at 11 am from Holy Family Parish, corner of E. Main and John Streets, Little Falls, where The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Funeral procession will follow to Fort Plain Cemetery, where she will be laid to rest with her husband.

Betty Lou (McCumber) DeLuca
Betty Lou (McCumber) DeLuca, 65, passed away on Sunday May 20, 2007 at Little Falls Hospital after a courageous twenty-six year battle with cancer. She was born November 3, 1941 in Little Falls the daughter of the late George and Anna Mae McCumber. Betty Lou was educated in the Church Street and Little Falls High Schools. Betty Lou was a kind and generous care giving sister, sister-in-law, and special aunt to all of her nephews & nieces. Mrs. DeLuca was a dedicated servant to her Lord and to the Holy Family Parish as she volunteered countless hours to her church. Betty Lou also was a dedicated patriot to the USA as she thought all men and women who served in the Armed Forces were the real heroes. She was especially proud of her immediate family members who served our country for ninety-five years in the military. Betty Lou always thought of her brothers, sisters ń in ńlaw, and nieces & nephews to be one of her top priorities in life. Mrs. DeLuca had many friends who enjoyed each otherís company going to the YMCA and going out to restaurants to dine. She worked for more than 50 years in the Mohawk Valley area at various companies, including; Allegro Shoe Company, Remington Arms, Salada, and Redco Tea Company and the Little Falls Hospital, Kitchen Department retiring do to poor health in 2005. Betty Lou is survived by her family; brothers, Jere McCumber and wife Barbara of Stanford, Kentucky, Robert McCumber and wife Josephine of Little Falls, and Charles McCumber of Little Falls. She is also survived by many nieces & nephews and many special friends who helped her in her battle with cancer. Betty Lou is pre-deceased her parents George and Anna Mae McCumber and brother Roger McCumber. Funeral services will be held on Thursday May 24, 2007 at 11:15 am from the Enea Family Funeral Home, 24 W. Monroe St., Little Falls and at 12:00 noon from Holy Family Parish where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Reverend Anthony Ligato, pastor. Burial will take place at a later date in Rural Park Cemetery, Inghams Mills, NY. Friends and relatives may call at the funeral home on Wednesday May 23, 2007 from 4-8 pm. In lieu of flowers, please make all memorial contributions to the Holy Family Parish. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

Doris R. Giltz
Doris R. Giltz, 88, formerly of 115 E. German St., Herkimer passed away on Saturday July 21, 2007, at Valley Health Services. Doris was born September 23, 1918, in Antwerp, NY the daughter of the late Maurice & Pauline (Mayne) Backus and lived in the Watertown area all her life until she moved to Herkimer in 1991. Mrs. Giltz was a graduate of Antwerp high School and Newcomb Beauty School in Watertown, NY. Her marriage to Clare R. ěPeteî Giltz took place on August 31, 1940 in New York City. Mr. Giltz passed away on January 16, 2000. Survivors include her son, Richard P. Giltz and wife Patricia L. of Herkimer, two daughters, Nancy C. Dahl and husband Donald R. of Canastota & Barbara J. Griffiths and husband Thomas E. of Croghan, NY, five grandchildren, Miranda, Victoria (Tori) and Jonah Giltz all of Herkimer, and Allison and Maggie Griffiths of Croghan, NY, and several nieces, nephews & cousins. She was pre-deceased by a daughter, Sally Sue Giltz and a brother Denver A. Backus. Funeral services are private and held at the convenience of the family. James M. Alexander
SYRACUSE - Mr. James M. "Jim" Alexander, 57, of Miles Ave., Syracuse, passed away on Saturday, July 21, 2007, in his home. There are no public calling hours. Funeral service will be held privately at the convenience of the family from the Enea Family Funeral Home, 220 N.  Washington St., Herkimer, (866-1011). Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, town of Herkimer. Kindly consider memorial offerings to the East Herkimer Volunteer Fire Department, or to the Frank Basloe Library of Herkimer; envelopes are available at the funeral home. Jim was born on November 28, 1949, in Little Falls, son of the late Leo M. Alexander and Mary C. (Bielejec) Alexander of Herkimer and was honorably discharged after serving with the United States Army. He graduated from Herkimer High School, class of 1967, and attended Syracuse University. He then graduated from the University of California at Santa Cruz and was last employed as a psychiatric nurse with University Hospital, Syracuse. Survivors include his beloved family; his mother: Mary Alexander of Herkimer; three sons: Robb, Alex and Aaron Alexander of Syracuse; a brother: John R. Alexander and wife Dianne of Elmira; an aunt: Sadie Alexander of Herkimer; nieces: Carrie Robie and husband Peter and Christin Hamilton and husband Jamie. Also surviving are many cousins. His father Leo passed away on April 8, 1996.

Joseph "Joe" J. Geloso
July 14, 1924 - January 1, 2011
ILION - Joseph “Joe” J. Geloso, age 86, of 114 Elm St., Ilion, passed away peacefully at home, on Saturday, January 1, 2011.
He was born on July 14, 1924, in Frankfort, the son of Vincenzo and Anna (Terras) Geloso, and graduated from Ilion High School. Joe was a Veteran of WW II. On October 12, 1968, he was married to Genevieve “Gen” (Jones) Dack in Ilion. Joe helped to establish the family business, Mohawk Valley Florist of Ilion, which continues to be family owned and operated. His family was very important to him. Joe also enjoyed gardening and cooking.
Survivors include his wife, “Gen”; three sons, Bryon Geloso and his wife, Cathy, and family, of Clifton Park, NY, Russell “Russ” W. Dack and his wife, Kristen, and family, of Mendon, NY, and William “Bill” W. Dack and his wife, Joyce, and family, of Ilion; two daughters, Leisa Stover and family, Cynthia “Cindy” Dack-Fauler and her husband, Matt, and family of Saratoga; two brothers, Sam Geloso and his wife, Delores, and Frank Geloso and Clancey all of Ilion; two sisters, Marion Gorman, of Baldwinsville, and Joan Conte and her husband, Mike, of Ilion; his sister-in-law, Lue Geloso, of Ilion; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his sisters, Julie Robel and Rose Fell; and his brother, Enaus Geloso.
Funeral Services will be held 2 p.m., Tuesday, January 4, 2011, at the Applegate-Day & Enea Family Funeral Home, 4309 Acme Rd., Ilion, with Father Anthony Barratt, pastor of the Church of the Annunciation, officiating, assisted by Deacon James Bower. Calling hours are Tuesday, January 4, 2011, from 12 noon to 2 p.m., prior to the funeral home service.

Vincent F. Durant
October 16, 1938 - November 11, 2010
ILION - SCHUYLER - Vincent F. Durant, age 72, of Schuyler, formerly of Ilion, passed away peacefully in his own bed, at his own home, surrounded by his loving family, on Thursday, November 11, 2010.
He was born on October 16, 1938 in Ilion, the son of George and Mayme (Terzo) Durant. Vince graduated from Annunciation School in 1952 and Ilion High School in 1956. He also attended Mohawk Valley Technical Institute and graduated with a degree in Business Retail Management. He was blessed to have two true loves in his life. On December 18, 1960 he was married to Barbara Utter in Cobleskill, NY. She died in 1972. He later married P. Donna (Galinn) Hunter on June 12, 1982, in Utica. Vince was employed as a Sales Representative for Standard Register Co., a Fortune 500 Company, for twenty-six years. He was also the owner and operator of Dur-A-Form of Ilion for eighteen years. Vince was a member of the Church of the Annunciation, Ilion, and St. Mark’s Church, N. Utica, NY.
Vince loved the community of Ilion and enjoyed giving back to the community. Some of his memberships included: Little League and Babe Ruth Coach, Jaycees, Knights of Columbus, Annunciation Parish Council and Kiwanis. Vince was a member of the Ilion Central School Board for twenty-four years, serving in the positions of both Vice President and President. He was also a member of many organizations affiliated with the school board. He was the founding member of the Ilion Central School Foundation which raised over $70,000 to improve the educational opportunities for Ilion students. Vince was a member of the Ilion Days Committee. He managed the Ilion Sports Calendar advertisement subscriptions, which raised tens of thousands of dollars for athletic programs at ICHS. Vince was an avid sports fan. His favorite teams were the Chicago Bears and Chicago  White Sox. He enjoyed attending Ilion school sporting events and truly loved participating in his grandchildren’s lives.
Survivors include his wife, Donna; three sons and daughters-in-law, Michael and Katherine Durant, of Ilion, David and Pamela Durant, of Vernon, and Christopher and Jaimie Durant, of Ilion; his stepdaughter, Gina Sciortino and her husband Joseph, of Utica; six grandchildren, Gregory, Kelsie, and Kassandra Durant, Sarah Sciortino, and Katie and Megan Reed; his sister and brother-in-law, Ann and Tom Shepard, of North Carolina; two sisters-in-law and one brother-in-law, Sandra and Joseph Bogan (who were like a rock of Gibralter for Vince and Donna), of Schuyler, and Elaine Galinn, of California; Barbara’s sisters, Fay Panza and husband Frank, of Niagara Falls, NY, Kathi Utter, of Cobleskill, with respectful mention of Barbara’s two sisters and two brothers; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Vince was predeceased by his first wife Barbara, the mother of his five sons. He was also predeceased by his two sons, infant Gregory Durant and Scott Durant; stepdaughter, Lauren Hunter; his parents, George and Mayme; Barbara’s parents, Wanda and Merton Utter; her brother, Merton Utter Jr. and Donna’s father, Jerome Galinn.
Funeral Services will be held 9:15 a.m., Monday, November 15, 2010, at the Applegate-Day & Enea Family Funeral Home, 4309 Acme Rd., Ilion, and 10 a.m. at the Church of the Annunciation, Ilion, where a Funeral Mass will be celebrated by Father Anthony Barratt, assisted by Deacon James Bower. Calling hours are Sunday, November 14, 2010, from 2 p.m. – 5 p.m., at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, as an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions may be made to Ilion Central School Foundation or American Pancreatic Cancer Research.
