Obituary: Utica/Clinton – John Nessia, a lifelong area resident passed away on April 21, 2007 after a courageous struggle with MS and cancer.

Born December 4, 1942, son of the late James V. and Ethel (Acker) Nessia and stepson of Doris (Manfredo) Nessia.

Married 28 years to Kathy (Sterling) until her death in 1992.

Survivors include children, Andy, Wendy, Judy and Jim Nessia and six grandchildren. Also survived by brothers and sisters-in-law, James and Judy, Timothy and Karen, Peter and Sharon and Richard Nessia. Sisters and brothers-in-law, Mary Ann and James Famolaro, Susan and Michael F. Teti, Cathy Mancuso, Nancy and Larry Pendolf and Victoria (Vicky) Battista.

The family thanks the staff of St. LukeÂ’s Hospital and nursing home and especially Dr. Tomy. There are no calling hours. A memorial mass will be held at Our Lady of the Rosary 1736 Burrstone Road, New Hartford on Wednesday April 25, 2007 at 11:00 am. Arrangements are by the Enea Family Funeral Home (Main Street between Frankfort & Ilion) 894-8000

Obituary: SYRACUSE - Mr. James M. "Jim" Alexander, 57, of Miles Ave., Syracuse, passed away on Saturday, July 21, 2007, in his home.

There are no public calling hours. Funeral service will be held privately at the convenience of the family from the Enea Family Funeral Home, 220 N.  Washington St., Herkimer, (866-1011). Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, town of Herkimer. Kindly consider memorial offerings to the East Herkimer Volunteer Fire Department, or to the Frank Basloe Library of Herkimer; envelopes are available at the funeral home.

Jim was born on November 28, 1949, in Little Falls, son of the late Leo M. Alexander and Mary C. (Bielejec) Alexander of Herkimer and was honorably discharged after serving with the United States Army. He graduated from Herkimer High School, class of 1967, and attended Syracuse University. He then graduated from the University of California at Santa Cruz and was last employed as a psychiatric nurse with University Hospital, Syracuse.

Survivors include his beloved family; his mother: Mary Alexander of Herkimer; three sons: Robb, Alex and Aaron Alexander of Syracuse; a brother: John R. Alexander and wife Dianne of Elmira; an aunt: Sadie Alexander of Herkimer; nieces: Carrie Robie and husband Peter and Christin Hamilton and husband Jamie. Also surviving are many cousins. His father Leo passed away on April 8, 1996.

Obituary: Mr. Gene W.  White 61 of 905 Emmonsburg Road Salisbury Center, died Thursday August 9, 2007 in St. Lukes Hospital after a brief illness.

He was born in Oneida, New York on February 26, 1946 the son of Marion (Gallup)  White of Ft. Plain and the late Donald J.  White and attended Oppenheim School.

His marriage to Marlene Leah Bailey took place on October 4, 1980 in Salisbury. Mrs.  White predeceased him on February 27, 2006.

Gene was first employed by the Dolgeville area Co-op as a truck driver, serving area farmers. He then went to work for Remington Arms Company of Ilion, where he retired from in 2006 with 32 years of service.

Gene was an avid New York Jets football fan, and always showed support and love to his family.

He is survived by his Mother Marion  White of Ft. Plain, his Sons and their wives John & Tonya  White of Salisbury Center, Donald J. & Theresa  White of St. Johnsville, Gene & Ruth  White Jr. of Oppenheim, Hadley Dillenbeck of Florida and Roger Dillenbeck of Broadalbin, his daughters and their husbands Yolanda & Steven Nichols with whom he lived, Julie & Dennis DiCamillo of Dolgeville, Harley & Perry Niepoth of Florida, Debra Lewis of Ft. Plain and Karen Moore of Dolgeville, his Brothers Richard  White of Gloversville, Ronald white of Ephratah, David  White & Dennis  White & Joseph  White all of Ft. Plain, His Sisters Donna Sanders of Ft. Plain, Margaret  White of Gloversville, Melody Richardson of Colorado and Linda  White of Arizona , several grandchildren, great Grandchildren and Nieces and Nephews. He was predeceased by a Brother Robert  White.

Funeral services will be held Saturday August 11, 2007 at 1PM at the Roberts & Enea Funeral Home 3 Faville Avenue Dolgeville. Burial will follow in Salisbury Rural Cemetery. Friends may call Saturday morning from 11 AM until the time of the service.

Thomas E. Lester

Obituary: Thomas E. "Tom" Lester, 84, formerly a longtime resident of Ilion and Oneida Lake, passed away Thursday, April 7, 2005, at the Presbyterian Home, town of New Hartford.

Tom was born Aug. 17, 1920, in Detroit, Mich., son of the late Elliott and Frances (VanDelinder) Lester. He was a graduate of Ilion High School. Tom was a proud World War II veteran, serving with the U.S. Navy from 1942-46 as an aviation machinist mate third class with the VPB 209 Squadron. He was the recipient of the Combat Air Crew Insignia, American Theater Ribbon, Victory Medal, Good Conduct Medal and, on Oct. 3, 2004, was presented the NYS Medal of Merit at his VFW Post. On Nov. 13, 1948, he was united in marriage to Carolyn Eysaman at the Blessed Sacrament Church in Mohawk. They shared a special and devoted union of almost 47 years until Carolyn's passing on Sept. 16, 1995. He was employed as a toolmaker at Remington Arms Co., Ilion, retiring in 1980. At one time Tom was co-owner and co-operator of Reynolds and Lester Garage in Ilion for many years. He later owned and operated T. Lester and Sons of Ilion.

In his early years, he attended the Ilion Baptist Church, and later attended the Church of the Annunciation in Ilion and St. Mary's of the Lake in Verona Beach. A dedicated and concerned citizen, Tom was elected as a trustee in the village of Ilion for many years, and also served as mayor. He was a former member of the Ilion Light Commission, a 58-year member of the Ilion Volunteer Fire Department, a former member of the Volunteer Fire Department Marching Band, the Ilion Moose Lodge 1010, Ilion American Legion Post 920, life member of the Yorkville VFW Post 6001, former president and secretary of the Kyser Beach Association, a charter member of the Do Nothing Club, a member of a special group of friends called "The Beavers," and at one time was an avid bowler and softball player.

Tom was known as a devoted and dedicated family man. He loved to laugh, and enjoyed the camaraderie of his family and many acquaintances.

Surviving are his two daughters and son-in-law, Barb Lester of Oneida Lake and Carol (Lester) Swart and her husband Keith of Florida; four sons and daughters-in-law, John and Diane Lester of Florida, Thomas II and Cathleen Lester, Charles "Chuck" and Marion Lester, all of Ilion, David and Pamela Lester of Ohio; 17 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, two sisters and one brother-in-law, Betty Pozniak of Frankfort and Leola and Robert "Bob" Reynolds of Ilion, and several nieces, nephews and many friends, including his special friend, Father Robert Bogan.

Family and friends are invited to Tom's calling hours on Sunday, April 10, from 3-6 p.m. at the Applegate and Day Funeral Home, 102 West St., Ilion.

Funeral services will be held Monday commencing at 9 a.m. at the funeral home and at 10 a.m. at the Church of the Annunciation, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Father Anthony Barratt, pastor. Procession to Mohawk Cemetery for interment with full military honors accorded by the U.S. Navy will follow Mass.

Members of the Ilion Volunteer Fire Department will pay their respects at 5 p.m. on Sunday, and the Yorkville VFW Post service will commence at 5:30 p.m., both at the Applegate and Day Funeral Home, Ilion.

Tom's family would like to extend its heartfelt thanks to everyone at the Presbyterian Home and Dr.  Taylor for the excellent and professional loving care provided during his stay.

In lieu of floral offerings, please consider memorials in Tom's name to the Ilion Volunteer Fire Department or the Presbyterian Home. Donation envelopes are available at the funeral home.
